Abstract:We consider the two-dimensional non-relativistic Coulomb problem with the aid of the momentum space construction of the associated Green's function. Our presentation has precursors in three dimensions. It is mainly Schwinger's approach which we advocate and project onto two dimensions.

Abstract:This paper presents a novel eigenfunction expansion of the electric-type dyadic Green's function for an unbounded gyrotropic medium in terms of the cylindrical vector wave functions. The unbounded Green dyadics are formulated based on the Ohm-Rayleigh method, orthogonality of the vector wave functions, and the newly formulated curl and divergence of dyadic identities. The irrotational part of the Green's function is obtained from the residual theorem. Unlike some of the published work where some assumptions are made prior to the formulation, the irrotational dyadic Green's function in this paper is formulated rigorously based on the idea given by Tai.

Abstract:In this paper, the authors use Ohm-Rayleigh method to obtain the general formulation of dyadic Green's function for the time harmonic current source embedded inside the unbounded biisotropic medium in terms of normalized cylindrical and elliptical cylinder vector wave functions. The singular behavior of the dyadic Green's function in the source region is investigated and taken into account by extracting the delta function singularity. Furthermore, with the help of scattering superposition principle, explicit expressions for the electric-type dyadic Green's functions are derived for source and observation points in different regions of a circular biisotropic cylinder, which is located within a medium of infinite extent made of another biisotropic material. As particular cases, the dyadic Green's functions include achiral, reciprocal and nonreciprocal chiral medium and are therefore of sufficient generality to incorporate most practical applications.

Abstract:Using a recently developed approach for solving the three dimensional Dirac equation with spherical symmetry, we obtain simple representations for the Green's function of the Dirac-Oscillator and Dirac-Coulomb problems. This is accomplished by setting up the relativistic problem in such a way that makes comparison with the nonrelativistic problem highly transparent and results in a map of the latter into the former. An advantage of this representation is in the computational economy as depicted by the number of terms, which are quadratic in the Whittaker functions. These are single terms except for the off-diagonal elements of the Dirac-Coulomb Green's function which, nonetheless, simplifies into the sum of a first order and third order relativistic terms.

Abstract:This report provides Green's functions (classical propagators) of gravitational fields of vierbein and spin-connection in general relativity. The existence of Green's function of the Laplace operator in curved space with an indefinite metric is ensured owing to the Hodge harmonic analysis. The analyticity of Green's function is naturally determined intrinsically, keeping a causality. This report proposed a novel definition of the momentum space in curved space-time and the linearisation of the Einstein equation as a free field consistent with that for the Yang-Mills gauge field. The proposed linearisation does not utilize the weak-field approximation; thus, the method applies to highly caved space-time. We gave two examples of Green's function of gravitational fields, the plane wave solution and the Schwarzschild solution.

Abstract:We study the Green function of the Poisson equation in two, three and four dimensions. The solution g of the equation nabla^2 g(x - x') = delta^(D)(x - x'), where x and x are D-dimensional position vectors, is customarily expanded into radial and angular coordinates. For the two-dimensional case (D=2), we find a subtle interplay of the necessarily introduced scale L with the radial component of zero magnetic quantum number. For D=3, the well-known expressions are briefly recalled; this is done in order to highlight the analogy with the four-dimensional case, where we uncover analogies of the four-dimensional spherical harmonics with the familiar three-dimensional case. Remarks on the SO(4) symmetry of the hydrogen atom complete the investigations.

Green's function and LDOS for non-relativistic electron pair

Abstract:The Coulomb Green's function (GF) for non-relativistic charged particle in field of attractive Coulomb force is extended to describe the interaction of two non-relativistic electrons through repulsive Coulomb forces. Closed-form expressions for the GF, in the absence of electron spins, are derived as one-dimensional integrals. The results are then generalized to include electron spins and account for the Pauli exclusion principle. This leads to a final GF composed of two components, one even and the other odd with respect to exchange particles, with closed-form expressions represented as one-dimensional integrals. The Dyson equations for spin-independent potentials is presented. The local density of states (LDOS) is calculated, which is a combination of contributions from both even and odd GFs. This calculation reveals the dependence of LDOS on inter-electron distance and energy. Separate analysis of the impact of the Pauli exclusion principle is provided. An examination of the pseudo-LDOS, arising from the two-body contribution to the Green's function, is undertaken. Complete suppression of the LDOS at~$r=0$ is ensured by this term, which exhibits a restricted spatial extent. The reasons for the emergence of this pseudo-LDOS are elucidated.

Abstract:Given a spatially dependent mass, we obtain the 2-point Green's function for exactly solvable nonrelativistic problems. This is accomplished by mapping the wave equation for these systems into well-known exactly solvable Schrödinger equations with constant mass using point canonical transformation. The one-dimensional oscillator class is considered and examples are given for several mass distributions.

Abstract:We review properties of Bessel potentials, that is, inverse Fourier transforms of (regularizations of) $\frac{1}{(m^2+p^2)^{\frac{\mu}{2}}}$ on a pseudoEuclidean space with signature $(q,d-q)$. We are mostly interested in the Lorentzian signature $(1,d-1)$, and the case $\mu=2$, related to the Klein-Gordon equation $(-\Box+m^2)f=0$. We analyze properties of various ``two-point functions'', which play an important role in Quantum Field Theory, such as the retarded/advanced propagators or Feynman/antiFeynman propagators. We consistently use hypergeometric functions instead of Bessel functions, which makes most formulas much more transparent. We pay attention to distributional properties of various Bessel potentials. We include in our analysis the ``tachyonic case'', corresponding to the ``wrong'' sign in the Klein-Gordon equation.

Abstract:We address the few-body problem using the adiabatic hyperspherical representation. A general form for the hyperangular Green's function in $d$-dimensions is derived. The resulting Lippmann-Schwinger equation is solved for the case of three-particles with s-wave zero-range interactions. Identical particle symmetry is incorporated in a general and intuitive way. Complete semi-analytic expressions for the nonadiabatic channel couplings are derived. Finally, a model to describe the atom-loss due to three-body recombination for a three-component fermi-gas of $^{6}$Li atoms is presented.

Abstract:We propose a general method to obtain the scalar worldline Green function on an arbitrary 1D topological space, with which the first-quantized method of evaluating 1-loop Feynman diagrams can be generalized to calculate arbitrary ones. The electric analog of the worldline Green function problem is found and a compact expression for the worldline Green function is given, which has similar structure to the 2D bosonic Green function of the closed bosonic string.

Abstract:The linear Boltzmann equation with constant coefficients in the three-dimensional infinite space is revisited. It is known that the Green's function can be calculated via the Fourier transform in the case of isotropic scattering. In this paper, we show that the three-dimensional Green's function can be computed with the Fourier transform even in the case of arbitrary anisotropic scattering.

Abstract:The pointwise space-time behavior of the Green's function of the three-dimensional relativistic Boltzmann equation is studied in this paper. It is shown that the Green's function has a decomposition of the macroscopic diffusive waves and Huygens waves with the speed $\sqrt{a^2+b^2}$ at low-frequency, the singular kinetic wave and the remainder term decaying exponentially in space and time. In addition, we establish the pointwise space-time estimate of the global solution to the nonlinear relativistic Boltzmann equation with non-smooth initial data based on the Green's function.

Abstract:We derive equations of motion for higher order density response functions using the theory of thermodynamic Green's functions. We also derive expressions for the higher order generalized dielectric functions and polarization functions. Moreover, we relate higher order response functions and higher order collision integrals within the Martin-Schwinger hierarchy. We expect our results to be highly relevant to the study of a variety of quantum many-body systems such as matter under extreme temperatures, densities, and pressures.

Abstract:The Schrödinger-Coulomb Sturmian problem in $\mathbb{R}^{N}$, $N\geqslant2$, is considered in the momentum representation. An integral formula for the Gegenbauer polynomials, found recently by Cohl [<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1105.2735" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1105.2735">arXiv:1105.2735</a>], is used to separate out angular variables and reduce an integral Sturmian eigenvalue equation in $\mathbb{R}^{N}$ to a Fredholm one on $\mathbb{R}_{+}$. A kernel of the latter equation contains the Legendre function of the second kind. A symmetric Poisson-type series expansion of that function into products of the Gegenbauer polynomials, established by Ossicini [Boll. Un. Mat. Ital. 7 (1952) 315], is then used to determine the Schrödinger-Coulomb Sturmian eigenvalues and associated momentum-space eigenfunctions. Finally, a relationship existing between solutions to the Sturmian problem and solutions to a (physically more interesting) energy eigenvalue problem is exploited to find the Schrödinger-Coulomb bound-state energy levels in $\mathbb{R}^{N}$, together with explicit representations of the associated normalized momentum-space Schrödinger-Coulomb Hamiltonian eigenfunctions.

Abstract:This paper is a revised version of the original paper of same title--published in Applied Mathematics Letters 89--containing some corrections and clarifications to the original text. We derive non-singular Green's functions for the unbounded Poisson equation in one, two and three dimensions, using a cut-off function in the Fourier domain to impose a smallest length scale when deriving the Green's function. The resulting non-singular Green's functions are relevant to applications which are restricted to a minimum resolved length scale (e.g. a mesh size h) and thus cannot handle the singular Green's function of the continuous Poisson equation. We furthermore derive the gradient vector of the non-singular Green's function, as this is useful in applications where the Poisson equation represents potential functions of a vector field.

Abstract:The Green's function formalism in Condensed Matter Physics is reviewed within the equation of motion approach. Composite operators and their Green's functions naturally appear as building blocks of generalized perturbative approaches and require fully self-consistent treatments in order to be properly handled. It is shown how to unambiguously set the representation of the Hilbert space by fixing both the unknown parameters, which appear in the linearized equations of motion and in the spectral weights of non-canonical operators, and the zero-frequency components of Green's functions in a way that algebra and symmetries are preserved. To illustrate this procedure some examples are given: the complete solution of the two-site Hubbard model, the evaluation of spin and charge correlators for a narrow-band Bloch system, the complete solution of the three-site Heisenberg model, and a study of the spin dynamics in the Double-Exchange model.

Robustness of One-Dimensional Photonic Bandgaps Under Random Variations of Geometrical Parameters

Abstract:The supercell method is used to study the variation of the photonic bandgaps in one-dimensional photonic crystals under random perturbations to thicknesses of the layers. The results of both plane wave and analytical band structure and density of states calculations are presented along with the transmission cofficient as the level of randomness and the supercell size is increased. It is found that higher bandgaps disappear first as the randomness is gradually increased. The lowest bandgap is found to persist up to a randomness level of 55 percent.

Abstract:We consider a general one-particle Hamiltonian H = - \Delta_r + u(r) defined in a d-dimensional domain. The object of interest is the time-independent Green function G_z(r,r') = < r | (z-H)^{-1} | r' >. Recently, in one dimension (1D), the Green's function problem was solved explicitly in inverse form, with diagonal elements of Green's function as prescribed variables. The first aim of this paper is to extract from the 1D inverse solution such information about Green's function which cannot be deduced directly from its definition. Among others, this information involves universal, i.e. u(r)-independent, behavior of Green's function close to the domain boundary. The second aim is to extend the inverse formalism to higher dimensions, especially to 3D, and to derive the universal form of Green's function for various shapes of the confining domain boundary.

Abstract:In his celebrated paper Kontsevich has proved a theorem which manifestly gives a quantum product (deformation quantization formula) and states that changing coordinates leads to gauge equivalent star products. To illuminate his procedure, we make an arbitrary change of coordinates in the Moyal product and obtain the deformation quantization formula up to the third order. In this way, the Poisson bi-vector is shown to depend on \hbar and not to satisfy the Jacobi identity. It is also shown that the values of coefficients in the formula obtained follow from associativity of the star product.
