Abstract:Dispute refers to a disagreement or conflict between two or more parties that cannot be resolved directly. The context of a dispute includes areas such as law, business, personal relationships, or politics. Dispute resolution involves methods such as negotiation, mediation, arbitration, or judicial proceedings. The goal is to reach a solution that is fair and satisfactory to all parties involved. Meanwhile, international disputes occur between countries or international entities and involve issues such as borders, international law, trade, and human rights. The solution requires a deep understanding of international law and often requires a complex approach because it involves the sovereignty of the countries involved, with a stable solution requiring cooperation between countries. For example, the Ambalat dispute, namely the maritime border dispute between Indonesia and Malaysia around the Karimata Strait and North Natuna Sea, is related to claims of sovereignty rights over water blocks rich in natural resources. This conflict has caused tensions since the mid-2000s. Efforts to resolve this involve diplomacy, negotiation and mediation to reach a solution that is acceptable to both countries. This dispute reflects the complexity of maritime border disputes in Southeast Asia, where countries compete in claiming strategic maritime areas.
