Abstract:Shanhaijing has unique academic value and cultural significance, and its rich content, ingenious expressions and in-depth research have received widespread attention not only from domestic readers, but also from overseas readers. With the wide dissemination of Chinese literary works in the international arena, it has become a topic full of contemporary significance to present Chinese classic literature to the world, to promote the globalization of local knowledge, and to incorporate it into the vast fence of world literature. Shanhaijing, with its rich intellectual connotation, remarkable literary style and distinctive local characteristics, has become an outstanding representative of this proposition. Starting from the characteristics of the original works, integrating the relevant theories of intellectual translation, and giving full play to the advantages of modern multimedia and materials, the translation practice should be in line with the pulse of the times and satisfy the readers' preferences, so as to ensure the effectiveness of the translation and dissemination of Shanhaijing.

Abstract:In the Chinese history of translation, the era of the late Ming Dynasty and the early Qing Dynasty is considered one of the four great periods of history during which translation activities abounded. This period witnessed in particular the arrival of large numbers of Jesuits and the emergence of quantities of scientific and technological translations covering a wide field of disciplines, thus distinguishing it from the other three periods. These translations resulted from the combination of several factors including economic, socio-cultural, psychological, and linguistic factors, and have in turn deeply influenced modern Chinese society. Given the importance of the translation activities of this period to the whole of Chinese history, this paper attempts to reflect on these activities and to give a brief presentation of them in order to identify their specificities, the superficial and underlying reasons for this translation boom, and their influence on modern Chinese society.

Abstract:The research is presented in the form close to a fundamentally annotated bibliography demonstrating how European literary experience was advanced in the first quarter of the 19th c. in Russia at the time when contemporary Russian literature was being shaped. Six parts are devoted successively to French, German, English, Italian, Spanish, and classical literatures. The major aspects of research are outlined in an extensive foreword (E. Dmitrieva, M. Koreneva). Highlights include: Comparative analysis of the international contacts of Russian literature; a new interest in the novel, the genre that manifested a new literary taste; publishing and the audience in Russia compared to other European cultures; the birth of literary criticism on the margins of rhetoric; the evolution of a literary taste where gallomania was being substituted by anglo- and germanophilia; the change in the forms of contacts from imitation to stylization in accordance with the formula suggested by Konstantin Batyushkov ‘The stranger’s treasure is mine.’

Abstract:The subject of the study covers the process of translation and distribution of Chinese science fiction literature in the Russian book market. The main attention is focused on the peculiarities of cultural and literary interaction between Russia and China. The study analyzes the methods and strategies used in the translation process, examines their effectiveness and identifies potential problems. Cultural nuances that play a key role in the perception and adaptation of Chinese fiction by Russian readers are also considered. Through a quantitative analysis of translations and reviews, the article seeks to understand how the attitude towards Chinese science fiction literature has changed in Russia since the beginning of the XX century to the present day. The main conclusions of the study are identification of the steady growth in popularity of Chinese science fiction literature in Russia, as well as emphasis on the features and difficulties associated with the process of translating and promoting these works, taking into account cultural nuances. A special contribution of the author to the research of the topic is a deep analysis and systematization of translation techniques used to preserve the culturally specific features of the source text, as well as an assessment of their impact on the perception of the Russian audience. The novelty of the research lies in the multifaceted analysis of the interaction of Chinese and Russian literary traditions, the consideration of the evolution of the perception of Chinese fiction from the beginning of the XX century to the present, and the identification of key factors determining the successful promotion of Chinese science fiction literature on the Russian market.
A study of translation adaptation in the outward translation of Chinese literature

Abstract:In recent years, Chinese translatology has put forward a new issue in the general theory of translation, translation adaptation. This paper, using the case study method, takes the novel “Bronze and Sunflower” by Cao Wenxuan, and its Russian translation as an example to reveal that the Chinese original undergoes translation adaptation at the genre level, language organization level, cultural level, pragmatic level and aesthetic level. This not only verifies the universality of translation adaptation once again, but also provides an example analysis for the effective translation of Chinese literature into Russian, which has important reference significance for the translation of Chinese literature into other foreign languages.

Abstract:Song Dan is the first scholar to discover Lin Yutang’ s unpublished English translation of The Red Chamber Dream stored in Japan. Based on the discovery and research of Lin’s translation, Song Dan authors the book Collation and Research of Lin Yutang’s Unpublished English Translation of THE RED CHAMBER DREAM Stored in Japan, which accurately solves the three problems of Lin’s choice of source text, translation time, and why it was translated and published in Japan. Through the integration of materials and methods, the book, with its detailed analysis, addresses well the basic questions of Lin’s translation strategies, characteristics, and significance. It also makes a useful exploration on the methodologies of multilingual or cross-cultural translation research. Moreover, the meticulous collation is helpful to understand Lin’s translation more directly and vividly. This book provides new literature for both the translation study of The Red Chamber Dream and the study of Lin Yutang. It not only presents a new paradigm for the study of translators’ manuscripts, but also can arouse the circle of Redology to rethink the sequel problem and Lin’s study of The Red Chamber Dream. The author’s perseverance and diligence in research are commendable, and her innovative way to integrate materials and methods is also enlightening for the current translation studies.

Abstract:The year of 2006 was known as the “Year of Russia” in China.Reviewing literary exchanges between the two countries in the past 300 years,it could be said that Russian translators started ahead of their counterparts in China.There were already translations of Chinese literature in the late 17th and 18th centuries.In the 19th century the translations of Chinese literary classics started and continued as a fashionable enterprise into the 20th century.One can find Russian translations of Chinese literature from Shi Jing(The Book of Songs)to famous contemporary literary works.It was not until the late 19th century that Chinese translators started to translate Russian literature.There was a flood of translations of Russian literature in the 1950s,the ripple effect of which could still be felt in the 1980s.Russian literature,including the works of Pushkin and Tolstoy as well as the Soviet literature represented by Gorky,has had a great influence on Chinese literature.

Abstract:Background. The cultural reforms at the end of the 20th century in China opened to the world a whole variety of genres of Chinese short stories, as well as science fiction and historical fiction. Thanks to the Internet, they are gaining popularity at the present stage of literature formation, expanding the range of genres of online works with new types such as xianxia, xuanhuan, wuxia, which are rich in lexemes that denote the realia of Chinese culture and are of interest to translators. Purpose. The article considers the stratum of equivalent-free vocabulary and reveals a variety of ways to translate realia from Chinese into English and Russian Materials and methods. The research material comprises the popular Chinese short stories of the xianxia genre by the writers Mo Xiang Tong Xiu “Mo Dao Zu Shi” (also known as “The Untamed”), published by Jinjiang Literature City online publishing house (晋江文学城), 2015-2016, and the short story “Divine Doctor: Daughter of the First Wife” by Mo Shu Liu, published by Motie (磨铁图书), 2015. The material was analyzed using the continuous sampling and content analysis method, as well as the lexical-semantic and translation analysis. Results. In this article the authors reviewed the scientific definition of the term “realia”. They also analyzed a new genre of Chinese online literature (xianxia) as one of the rapidly gaining popularity. Examples of realia from two online novels were classified according to the typology by four principles of division (subject, local, temporal, translational). It is defined that the indicated division of analyzed realia while translating them from Chinese into Russian and English manifested itself in creating a neologism, which results in preservation of content and flavor of the translated realia, as well as the descriptive, approximate and contextual types of translation. Practical implications. The practical usefulness of the results of the study consists in the possibility of replenishing the cross-cultural dictionary of Chinese realia with new lexemes and their interpretation in Russian and English, in the use of the analyzed lexemes when compiling the trilingual corpus for linguists, philologists, literary scholars to work with.

Abstract:"Shan Hai Jing" is an ancient Chinese book between the Warring States to the Qin and Han dynasties which more than two thousand years ago, there are a total of 18 books, scholars have paid great attention to its mythological value research since the Ming and Qing. The last century 80 years later, some scholars re-discussed the realistic color of "Shan Hai Jing". The book contains the people's study and records of natural resources at pre-Qin period, it not only objectively reflects the survival status quo of the ancestors, but also reflects the human instincts of curiosity, curiosity and the spirit of scientific exploration from the pragmatism brought to the nature of real life. "Shan Hai Jing" uses natural resources to describe a different way based on different observation purposes. In the classification of natural resources, it embodies certain scientific thoughts and enlightens the development and research of natural science in later generations.

Abstract:The article examines the influence of images, in particular, of a fox, from the works Liao Zhai’s Stories about the Extraordinary by Pu Songlin and Notes on the Search for Spirits by Gan Bao on modern Russian prose. The research material was the collections of Pu Songlin Liao Zhai’s Stories about the Extraordinary and Gan Bao Notes on the Search for Spirits in Russian translations. The study uses an interpretation technique involving reliance on contexts, methods of comparative and comparative analysis, and a phenomenological approach. The article presents an overview of the century-old history of translations of Pu Songlin’s novellas and Gan Bao’s stories into Russian. Based on the works by V. Pelevin, A. Nikolashina, M. Uspensky, the degree of influence of images from Chinese classical literature on Russian prose is determined. Most often, the image of werewolf foxes is borrowed, which is endowed in the recipient texts with recognizable qualities from the source – beauty, wisdom, passion, devotion, independence. At the same time, such heroines undergo personal changes during the development of the plot, as, for example, in the novel by V. Pelevin, without remaining in the static canonical framework. The poor monk in the story by M. Uspensky also possesses "magical" abilities and knowledge in Eastern philosophy. The very atmosphere of the "magical", "strange" as a special technique allows writers to highlight topical issues of our time in a special language. The results of this study reflect the process of adaptation of Chinese "strange stories" in Russian literature, first as original works in translation, then as donor texts for Russian writers. The methodological approach used in the work can be applied to further study the reception of Pu Songlin’s and Gan Bao’s creativity in Russian literature, as well as the influence and adaptation of other works of Chinese classics.

Abstract:The subject of this work is the main themes and ideas of Russian country prose – the school that most fully reflects the essence of the Russian national mentality. Ethical issues are an integral part of the works of Vasily Shukshin. V. Shukshin’s novellas represent the wisdom, virtue and life experience of a Russian villager, an attempt is made to identify the spiritual foundations. Writers strive to find the foundations of the peasant world. Vasily Shukshin’s works are known not only in Russia, but all over the world. At the end of the Chinese Cultural Revolution, V. Shukshin’s novellas were also translated into Chinese and had a significant impact on the work of modern Chinese fiction writers of the new era. During the period of social transformations in China and the Soviet Union, a large number of peasants left the village and rushed to the cities, while their lands were abandoned, and the very attitude of man to the land changed. These processes could not but disturb the writers of the two countries, reflecting in their works on the relationship between man and nature, on national historical memory, on the connection between tradition and modernity. Thus, the question of studying the reception of V. Shukshin’s creativity in China seems to be very up-to-date. The historical and biographical methods provide a key to understanding the author’s content of such national Russian concepts as ‘home’, ‘melancholy’, ‘soul’, ‘conscience’, ‘fate’ and demonstrate the views of Chinese literary scholars on the oeuvre of Russian writers of this school. The works of Chinese literary critics are introduced into the scientific circulation.
A PARALLEL CORPUS OF JAPANESE-RUSSIAN TRANSLATION OF A MANGA

Abstract:After the collapse of the Soviet Union, there was a strong influx of foreign culture into Russia. As part of the influx, Japanese manga entered the former Soviet Union, including Russia. The purpose of this paper is to present a parallel corpus of Japanese manga text Hadashi no Gen (Barefoot Gen), which was familiar to people in the former Soviet Union, and its Russian translation. The author has been studying the translation of Japanese literature and manga works into Russian from the standpoint of Descriptive translation studies, with the question, “How are Japanese literature, manga, and anime works translated into Russian?” As part of this research, the author has created a parallel corpus of Hadashi no Gen. The use of corpora is important to objectively clarify norms and laws of translation. This paper introduces the current state of Japanese manga translation studies and corpus-based translation studies, and then presents the parallel corpus of Hadashi no Gen. The author lays out three texts: the Japanese original text, the old Russian translation text, and the new Russian translation text. Finally, a case study using the corpus was presented. The present researcher showed how many times the name “Gen,” the main character of Hadashi no Gen, appears in the Japanese original text, the old Russian translation text, and the new Russian translation text, and what translation strategies were used. The results of the survey revealed that in the old Russian translation, the name Gen was removed due to page omissions, while in the new Russian translation, Gen which appeared as a vocative in the Japanese text was removed. In the case of the former translation, the name Gen was probably deleted for editorial reasons, but in the case of the latter, the name Gen was probably deleted to make the text more natural as Russian. This new edition would have been translated with the aim of providing a more readable text for Russians.

Abstract:Huang Di Nei Jing (Nei Jing), one of the most important classical texts of traditional Chinese medicine, is the foundation upon which today's Chinese medicine principles are built. This seminal ancient classic has been translated into English many times by different scholars worldwide. The authors have found thirteen English versions, each of which has its own distinctive features. By reviewing different versions and research achievements of the English translation, the authors try to summarize the translation style, purpose, content and other features of each version, and point out each translation's weaknesses, strengths, or significance. The emerging of so many English versions of Nei Jing, an ancient and sophisticated text, shows that scholars have disparate understanding of its language and concepts. Additionally, different educational backgrounds, professions and goals of the translators will all contribute to different perspectives and approaches in the translation. It is understandable that so many versions of translation exist for such an ancient and important classic. However, to achieve truly accurate translation of ancient classical texts of Chinese medicine, all translators should abide by certain basic requirements and translation principles.

Abstract:The Shanghai School (海上画派), a style of Chinese art present in the late 19th century and centered in Shanghai, is the witness and contributor to the advancement of modern Chinese art, embodying all the facts and specimens from that time, and regards the process of Chinese painting from ancient to unique and distinct style as the corresponding modernization. Inspired by the translation project of the grand opening exhibition of Cheng Shifa Art Museum, this paper discusses how to reestablish evocative resonance and situational context in the translation process. Guided by the aesthetics of translation and the psychology of art, the translators try to reemerge the context, connotation, artistry, and creativity of the works of the exhibition in the Chinese-English translations, and to reach the dialogue between the audience and the artists featuring bilingual compatibility, emotional connection, and aesthetic isomorphism.

Abstract:The authors study the problem of the spread and influential power of the ancient Chinese philosophical treatise by Laozi Tao Te Ching into Russian. The academic value is determined by the deep research interest of Russian Sinologists to the ancient Chinese literary masterpiece. A predetermined cognition of the depth of philosophical discourse and figurativeness of the treatise's language is presented. Its status as a classic work of world literature is confirmed by the number of translations, second only to the Bible. The authors highlight the main stages of interaction between linguocultures on the example of the history of translations of the ancient Chinese treatise Tao Te Ching into Russian, the reasons for the depression and boom of translation activity in connection with a particular historical period, and the significance and relevance of the discursive knowledge of Laozi philosophy in Russia. A positive trend is depicted in increasing the number of studies of Tao Te Ching through the identified research vectors in modern Russian Sinology. The types and features of Tao Te Ching translations into Russian are described and arranged. The openness of philosophical discourse of Tao Te Ching and the importance of academic and popularized translations for discursive study of the ancient Chinese philosophical text in the socio-cultural context by Russian readers are noted. The representation of the profound knowledge of discursive meanings of traditional Chinese culture in the numerous studies of Tao Te Ching by Russian Sinologists is discussed, resulting in the original way of translating this ancient Chinese philosophical treatise into Russian.
