Abstract:Although the distributions of sea quarks and antiquarks generated by leading-twist QCD evolution through gluon splitting g --> (q) over bar q are necessarily CP symmetric, the distributions of nonvalence quarks and antiquarks which are intrinsic to the nucleon's bound state wavefunction need not be identical. In this paper we investigate the sea quark-antiquark asymmetries in the nucleon wavefunction which are generated by a light-cone model of energetically-favored meson-baryon fluctuations. The model predicts striking quark-antiquark asymmetries in the momentum and helicity distributions for the down and strange contributions to the proton structure function: the intrinsic d and s quarks in the proton sea are predicted to be negatively polarized, whereas the intrinsic (d) over bar and (s) over bar antiquarks give zero contributions to the proton spin, Such a picture is supported by experimental phenomena related to the proton spin problem and the violation of the Ellis-Jaffe sum rule. The light-cone meson-baryon fluctuation model also suggests a structured momentum distribution asymmetry for strange quarks and antiquarks which could be relevant to an outstanding conflict between two different determinations of the strange quark sea in the nucleon. The model predicts an excess of intrinsic d (d) over bar pairs over u (u) over bar pairs, as supported by the Gottfried sum rule violation. We also predict that the intrinsic charm and anticharm helicity and momentum distributions are not identical.

Abstract:We study the helicity distributions of light flavor quark-antiquark (q (q) over bar) pairs in the nucleon sea. The valence quarks are handled by adopting the light-cone SU(6) quark-spectator-diquark model and the sea q (q) over bar pairs are treated from statistical consideration by introducing the helicity suppression factors l(q)(x) and (l) over bar (q)(x) to parametrize the helicity distributions of q-flavor sea quark and antiquark respectively, while Delta l(q)(x) = l(q)(x) - (l) over bar (q)(x) represents a combined effect of helicity contribution due to sea q (q) over bar pairs. From fitting the nucleon polarization asymmetries A(1)(N) in inclusive deep inelastic scattering processes and the single-spin asymmetries A(L)(W +/-) in Drell-Yan type processes, we find a significant asymmetry between the quark and antiquark helicity distributions of the nucleon sea. Therefore the quark-antiquark asymmetry of helicity distributions of nucleon sea q q (q) over bar pairs, i.e., Delta q(s)(x) not equal Delta(q) over bar (s)(x), plays an important role for a comprehensive understanding of the nucleon spin content.

Abstract:The particle–antiparticle asymmetries of Λ production in 250 GeV/c π±, K±, and p-nucleon collisions are studied with two model parametrizations of quark to Λ fragmentation functions. It is shown that the available data can be qualitatively explained by the calculated results in both the quark–diquark model and a pQCD based analysis of fragmentation functions. The differences in the two model predictions are significant for K± beams, and high precision measurements of the asymmetries with detailed xF and PT information can discriminate between different predictions.

Abstract:The asymmetries of both light-flavor antiquark (d) over bar (x)-(u) over bar (x) and strange-antistrange s(x)-(s) over bar (x) distributions of the nucleon sea are considered with more details in the effective chiral quark model. We find that the asymmetric distribution of light-flavor antiquarks (d) over bar (x)-(u) over bar (x) matches the experimental data well and that the asymmetry of strange and antistrange distributions can bring about 60%-100% correction to the NuTeV anomaly of sin(2)theta(w), which are 3 standard deviations from the world average value measured in other electroweak processes. The results on the correction to the NuTeV anomaly are insensitive to the inputs of the constituent quark distributions and the cutoff parameters. The ratios of (d) over bar (x)/(u) over bar (x) and s(x)/(s) over bar (x) are also discussed, and it is found that the ratio s(x)/(s) over bar (x) is compatible with the available experiments with an additional symmetric sea contribution being considered effectively.
Non-perturbative Generation of Light Antiquark Flavor Asymmetry in Proton

Abstract:We compute the light antiquark flavor asymmetry in the proton using the Chiral Quark Model ($\chi_{\rm QM}$). The distribution functions for the light antiquarks $\bar{d}(x)$ and $\bar{u}(x)$ have been extracted with the help of experimental data from NuSea/E866 and HERMES for the Bjorken$-x$ range $0.015 < x < 0.35$ as well from the most recent SeaQuest data for an extended $x$ range $0.13 < x < 0.45$. Our results on the $\bar{d}(x)-\bar{u}(x)$, $\frac{\bar{d}(x)}{\bar{u}(x)}$ and Gottfried Integral $I_G$ are in agreement with the experimental data and confirm the presence of enhanced $\bar{d}$ sea whose origin is purely non-perturbative based on chiral symmetry breaking in QCD.

Abstract:We present a general analysis of the spin transfer for Lambda and <(Lambda)over bar> production in deep-inelastic scattering of polarized charged leptons on the nucleon, and find that the pattern of different behaviors of Lambda and <(Lambda)over bar> production observed by the E665 Collaboration suggests the possibility of quark-antiquark asymmetries either in the quark to Lambda fragmentation functions and/or in the quark and antiquark distributions of the target proton. We also point out that the strange-antistrange asymmetry of the nucleon sea may produce an observable contribution to the different behaviors of Lambda and <(Lambda)over bar> production. We find that a softer (s) over bar(x) than s(x) as predicted by the light-cone baryon-meson fluctuation model of intrinsic quark-antiquark pairs of the nucleon sea might lead to a reasonable picture. However, the magnitude is still too small to explain the E665 data and the conclusion has also strong model-dependence. This may suggest the importance of quark-antiquark asymmetry in the quark to Lambda fragmentation functions, provided that the E665 data are confirmed. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. Abstract:We investigate the flavour and quark-antiquark structure of the polarized nucleon by calculating the parton distribution functions of the nucleon sea using the meson cloud model. We find that the SU(2) flavor symmetry in the light antiquark sea and quark-antiquark symmetry in the strange quark sea are broken, {\it i.e.} $\Delta\ubar < \Delta \dbar$ and $\Delta s < \Delta \sbar$. The polarization of the strange sea is found to be positive, which is in contradiction to previous analyses. We predict a much larger quark-antiquark asymmetry in the polarized strange quark sea than that in the unpolarized strange quark sea. Our results for both polarized light quark sea and polarized strange quark sea are consistent with the recent HERMES data.
Sea Quark Flavor Asymmetry of Hadrons in Statistical Balance Model

Abstract:We derive a Menta Carlo method to simulate kinetic equilibrium ensemble, and get the same sea-quark flavor asymmetry as the linear equations method in statistical model. In the recent paper, we introduce the spilt factors to indicate the quarks' or gluons' spilt $g\rightarrow q\bar{q}(gg)$ and $q\rightarrow qg$ ability. We obtain the almost fixed asymmetry value $0.12-0.16$ which consists with experimental measurements for proton, when the spilt factors vary in a very wide range over four orders of magnitude. So, we proof the sea quark asymmetry can be derived from statistic principle and not sensitively dependents on the dynamics details of quarks and gluons in proton. We also apply the Menta Carlo method of statistical model to predict the sea-quark asymmetry values for $K$ mesons, octet baryons $\Sigma$,$\Xi$ and $\Delta$ baryons, even for exotic pentaquark states. All these asymmetry values just only dependent on the valence quarks numbers in those hadrons.
Transverse Spin Effects of Sea Quarks in Unpolarized Nucleons

Abstract:We calculate the nonzero Boer-Mulders functions of sea quarks inside the proton in a meson-baryon fluctuation model. The results show that the transverse spin effects of sea quarks in an unpolarized nucleon are sizable. Using the obtained antiquark Boer-Mulders functions, we estimate the cos2 phi asymmetries in the unpolarized pp and pD Drell-Yan processes at FNAL E866/NuSea experiments. The prediction for the cos2 phi asymmetries in the unpolarized pp Drell-Yan process at the BNL Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) is also given.

Abstract:We demonstrate that a nonzero strangeness contribution to the spacelike electromagnetic form factor of the nucleon is evidence for a strange-antistrange asymmetry in the nucleon's light-front wave function, thus implying different nonperturbative contributions to the strange and antistrange quark distribution functions. A recent lattice QCD calculation of the nucleon strange quark form factor predicts that the strange quark distribution is more centralized in coordinate space than the antistrange quark distribution, and thus the strange quark distribution is more spread out in light-front momentum space. We show that the lattice prediction implies that the difference between the strange and antistrange parton distribution functions, s(x) - (s) over bar (x), is negative at small-x and positive at large-x. We also evaluate the strange quark form factor and s(x) - (s) over bar (x) using a baryon-meson fluctuation model and a novel nonperturbative model based on light-front holographic QCD. This procedure leads to a Veneziano-like expression of the form factor, which depends exclusively on the twist of the hadron and the properties of the Regge trajectory of the vector meson which couples to the quark current in the hadron. The holographic structure of the model allows us to introduce unambiguously quark masses in the form factors and quark distributions preserving the hard scattering counting rule at large-Q(2) and the inclusive counting rule at large-x. Quark masses modify the Regge intercept which governs the small-x behavior of quark distributions, therefore modifying their small-x singular behavior. Both nonperturbative approaches provide descriptions of the strange-antistrange asymmetry and intrinsic strangeness in the nucleon consistent with the lattice QCD result.
Strange Quark-Antiquark Asymmetry of Nucleon Sea from Λ/Λ¯ Polarization

Abstract:Distinctions between quark to Λ and Λ¯ longitudinal spin transfers in the semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering process were observed by the E665 and COMPASS Collaborations. There are suggestions that the difference between Λ and Λ¯ production is related to the asymmetric strange-antistrange distribution inside the nucleon. However, previous calculations are still too small to explain the experimental data. From a realistic consideration of quark to Λ fragmentation due to different flavors, we investigate the strange quark contribution for Λ production and polarization. We find that the strange quark-antiquark asymmetry of the nucleon sea can be amplified into an observable quantity from the difference between Λ and Λ¯ polarizations after taking into account the larger probability of the Λ produced from the s quark fragmentation process compared to that from the u or d quark. The qualitative agreement between our calculation and the experimental data supports the existence of the intrinsic strange sea and the strange-antistrange asymmetry. Thus the polarization of Λ/Λ¯ does open a new window to probe the nucleon sea properties, especially the strange content and its quark-antiquark asymmetry.

Abstract:The strange sea quarks distributions of nucleons obtained by two global analyses based on available structure function data of muon and neutrino deep inelastic scatterings are different from the strange sea quark distribution measured by the CCFR Collaboration from dimuon events in neutrino scattering. We discuss possible contributions to this discrepancy from the nuclear shadowing in the deuteron and from the isospin symmetry breaking in the sea between the neutron and the proton.
Correction of Asymmetric Quark-Antiquark Strange Sea to Weinberg Angle

Abstract:We derive a new Paschos-Wolfenstein relationship which should bring an important correction to Weinberg angle sin(2)theta(w) when considering the quark-antiquark asymmetry in the nucleon sea. We also obtain the distributions of asymmetric strangeantistrange sea by using the light-cone meson-baryon fluctuation model with two kinds of wave functions, respectively. The most important issue is that the correction of asymmetric strange-antistrange sea can reduce approximately 30%-80% of the difference with three standard deviations between the measured value of the Weinberg angle sin(2)theta(w) by the NuTeV Collaboration and the predicted value by the standard model.

Abstract:We report the correction from the asymmetric strange-antistrange sea of the nucleon by using both the light-cone baryon-meson fluctuation model and the chiral quark model, and show that a significant part of the NuTeV anomaly can be explained by the strange-antistrange asymmetry. We also show that the calculated $s/\bar{s}$ asymmetry are compatible with the NuTeV data by including some additional symmetric $s/\bar{s}$ quark contribution.

Abstract:The study of electromagnetic and weak form factors of nucleon (charged quasielastic scatterings of neutrino (antineutrino) and nucleon) done in $70^\prime s$ and published in Chinese journals is reviewed. In the approach of the study antiquark components are introduced to the wave functions of nucleon and the study shows that the antiquark components of nucleon play an essential role in the EM and weak form factors of nucleon. The SU(6) symmetric wave functions of baryons in the rest frame ( s-wave in the rest frame) have been constructed. In these wave functions there are both quark and antiquark components. Using Lorentz transformations these wave functions are boosted to moving frame. In terms of effective Lagrangian these wave functions are used to study the EM and weak form factors of nucleon and $p \rightarrow \Delta$. The ratio $\mu_p G^p_E/G^p_M$, $G^n_E$, $G^n_M$, $G^*_M$, $E1+$ and $S1+$ of $p \rightarrow \Delta$ are predicted. The axial-vector form factors of nucleon is predicted to be $G_A(q^2)/G_A(0) = F^p_1(q^2)$, where the $F^p_1$ is the first Dirac form factor of proton. This prediction agrees with data very well. The pseudoscalar form factor of nucleon is predicted. The model predicts there are three axial-form factors for $p\rightarrow\Delta$ and two of them play dominant roles. The cross sections of $\nu_\mu + n \rightarrow p + \mu^-\;\;\bar{\nu}_\mu + p \rightarrow n + \mu^+$, $\Delta S = 1$ quasielastic neutrino scatterings, and $\nu_\mu + p \rightarrow \Delta^{++} + \mu^-$ are predicted. Theoretical results are in agreement with data. The study shows that antiquark components of baryons play an essential role in understanding nucleon structure.

Abstract:We apply a quark combination model to study yield densities and transverse momentum (pT) spectra of strange (anti)hadrons at midrapidity in central Au+Au collisions at sNN=7.7, 11.5, 19.6, 27, 39, and 200 GeV. We show that the experimental data for pT spectra of (anti)hadrons in these collisions can be systematically described by the equal velocity combination of constituent quarks and antiquarks at hadronization. We obtain the pT spectra of quarks and antiquarks at hadronization and study their collision energy dependence. We also reproduce the yield densities of hadrons and antihadrons. In particular, we demonstrate that the yield ratios of antihadrons to hadrons K−/K+, p¯/p, Λ¯/Λ, Ξ¯+/Ξ−, and Ω¯+/Ω− simply correlate with each other and their experimental data except Ω¯+/Ω− at sNN=7.7 GeV are systematically described by the model. These results suggest that the equal velocity combination mechanism for quarks and antiquarks at hadronization plays an important role for the production of these long-lived hadrons in Au+Au collisions at low RHIC energies (sNN≥11.5 GeV).
