Abstract:Let A be a supersingular abelian variety over a finite field k. We give an approximate description of the structure of the group A(k) of rational points of A over k in terms of the characteristic polynomial f of the Frobenius endomorphism of A relative to k. If f=g^e for a monic irreducible polynomial g and a positive integer e, we show that there is a group homomorphism A(k) --> (Z/g(1)Z)^e whose kernel and cokernel are elementary abelian 2-groups. In particular, this map is an isomorphism if the characteristic of k is 2 or A is simple of dimension greater than 2; in the last case one has e=1 or 2, and A(k) is isomorphic to (Z/g(1)Z)^e.
What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is to determine the structure of the \(k\)-rational point group \(A(k)\) of an elementary supersingular abelian variety \(A\) over a finite field \(k\). Specifically, the author studies the structure of \(A(k)\) when \(A\) is an elementary supersingular abelian variety and the characteristic polynomial of its Frobenius endomorphism is \(f = g^e\) (where \(g\) is an irreducible polynomial and \(e\) is a positive integer).
### Main Results
1. **General Case**:
- If \(A\) does not belong to one of the two special cases, then \(A(k)\) is isomorphic to \((\mathbb{Z}/g(1)\mathbb{Z})^e\).
2. **Special Cases**:
- When \(p\equiv 3\pmod{4}\), \(q\) is not a square number, and \(A\) is \(k\)-isogenous to a power of some supersingular elliptic curve, and \(g = X^2+q\);
- When \(p\equiv 1\pmod{4}\), \(q\) is not a square number, and \(A\) is \(k\)-isogenous to a power of some two - dimensional abelian variety, and \(g = X^2 - q\);
- In these two cases, there exist non - negative integers \(a\) and \(b\) satisfying \(a + b=e\), such that \(A(k)\) is isomorphic to \((\mathbb{Z}/g(1)\mathbb{Z})^a\times(\mathbb{Z}/g(1)^2\mathbb{Z}\times\mathbb{Z}/2\mathbb{Z})^b\).
3. **Particular Case**:
- When the characteristic \(p = 2\) or \(A\) is simple and has dimension greater than 2, \(A(k)\) is isomorphic to \((\mathbb{Z}/g(1)\mathbb{Z})^e\).
### Research Methods
The author studies the structure of \(A(k)\) through the following steps:
1. **Ring Structure**:
- Prove that the ring \(\mathbb{Z}[\zeta\sqrt{q}]\) is a Bass order over some suitable subrings.
2. **Tate Module**:
- Describe the Tate module of \(A\) over \(\mathbb{Z}[\pi]\).
3. **Rational Point Group**:
- Regard \(A(k)\) as the kernel of the isogeny \(\pi - 1\) of the \(\bar{k}\)-rational point group \(A(\bar{k})\), and thus obtain the structure of \(A(k)\).
### Applications
The results of this paper are not only of great significance for understanding the structure of rational point groups of high - dimensional abelian varieties, but also provide a basis for studying the Galois module structure of these varieties over finite fields. These results can be applied in fields such as cryptography and algebraic geometry.
