Specifically, we assume the sea to be a flavor octet with spin 0 or 1 but no color. The general wave function for spin 1/2 baryons with such a sea component is given. Application to the magnetic moments is considered. Numerical analysis shows that a scalar (spin 0) sea with an admixture of a vector (spin 1) sea can provide very good fits to the magnetic moment data using experimental errors. These fit also give reasonable values for the spin distributions of the proton and neutron.

Abstract:In the heavy quark limit a heavy baryon which contains two heavy quarks is believed to be composed of a heavy diquark and a light quark. Based on this picture, we evaluate the weak semileptonic decay rates of such baryons. The transition form factors between two heavy baryons are associated with those between two heavy mesons by applying superflavor symmetry. The effective vertices of the W boson and two heavy diquarks are obtained in terms of the Bethe-Salpeter equation. Numerical predictions on these semileptonic decay widths are presented and they will be tested in future experiments. [S0556-2821(98)00721-8].

Abstract:A modular representation for the semileptonic decays of baryons originating from spin polarized and correlated baryon-antibaryon pairs is derived. The complete spin information of the decaying baryon is propagated to the daughter baryon via a real-valued matrix. It allows to obtain joint differential distributions in sequential processes involving the semileptonic decay in a straightforward way. The formalism is suitable for extraction of the semileptonic formfactors in experiments where strange-baryon-antibaryon pairs are produced in electron-positron annihilation or in charmonia decays. We give examples such as the complete angular distributions in the $e^+e^-\to \Lambda\bar\Lambda$ process, where $\Lambda\to pe^-\bar{\nu}_e$ and $\bar\Lambda\to\bar{p}\pi^+$. The formalism can also be used to describe the distributions in semileptonic decays of charm and bottom baryons. Using the same principles, the modules to describe electromagnetic and neutral current weak baryon decay processes involving a charged lepton-antilepton pair can be obtained. As an example, we provide the decay matrix for the Dalitz transition between two spin-1/2 baryons.

Abstract:An operator formalism is used on the wavefunction of baryons to compute their charge radii and quadrupole moments. Total anti-symmetric wavefunction in spin, color and flavor space is framed for $J^P=\frac{1}{2}^+$ nucleons and $J^P=\frac{3}{2}^+$ hyperons. To understand the importance of sea, statistical model is used in conjugation with the detailed balance principle. Within the statistical approach, the importance of sea with quarks and gluons are studied using the relevant probabilities that are associated with spin, flavor, and color space. The present work also focuses on individual contributions of valence and sea which contains terms of scalar, vector and tensor sea. The obtained results are in agreement with available theories and few experimental outcomes. Our computed results may provide important information for upcoming experimental findings.

Abstract:We investigated the electromagnetic quadrupole transition of baryon decuplet ($J^P= \frac{3}{2}^+$) to octet ($J^P= \frac{1}{2}^+$) using the statistical framework together with the principle of detailed balance. The statistical approach assumed the expansion of hadrons in terms of various quark-gluon Fock states. By specifying the appropriate multiplicity in spin, color $\&$ flavor space, the relative probabilities of strange and non-strange quark-gluon Fock state are calculated. These probabilities further accumulated in the form of statistical parameters, highlighting the importance of sea quarks and gluons in the electromagnetic transition. Our calculations includes the individual contribution of valence and sea (scalar, vector and tensor ) to the transition moment of baryons. The effect of flavor SU(3) symmetry and its breaking in both valence and sea quarks is studied by incorporating the strange quark mass. The strangeness in the sea is constrained by a suppression factor $(1-C_l)^{n-1}$, which depends upon the free energy of gluons. The computed results get affected upto 60 $\%$ and exhibit the dominance of octet sea. The present work has been compared with updated experimental data and various theoretical predictions. The results obtained may offer important insights for future experimental studies.

Abstract:This work comprises the calculations of magnetic moments of $\frac{1}{2}^-$ baryon resonances in the presence of hot and dense hadronic matter. Using the chiral $SU(3)$ quark mean field model, we have taken into account the impact on in-medium scalar meson fields to investigate the density effects on the in-medium baryon masses and their constituent quarks. In light of chiral constituent quark model $\chi$CQM, we have calculated the magnetic moments of $\frac{1}{2}^-$ baryon resonances and scrutinized the explicit contributions coming from the valence quarks, sea quarks and the orbital angular momentum of sea quarks. The effective baryonic magnetic moments have been investigated for the varying values of isospin asymmetry and strangeness fraction.

Abstract:The flavor and helicity distributions of the Lambda and hyperons for both valence and sea quarks are calculated in a perturbative QCD (pQCD) based model. We relate these quark distributions to the fragmentation functions of Lambda and , and calculate the z-dependence of the longitudinal spin transfer to Lambda and in lepton deep-inelastic scattering (DIS). It is shown that the spin transfer to the Lambda is compatible with the first HERMES results at DESY, and further tests are suggested. We also make predictions for the z-dependence of the Lambda and longitudinal polarizations in neutrino (antineutrino) DIS processes. We investigate the sea contribution to the fragmentation functions, and we testa possible scenario where the sea quarks in Lambda (or the sea antiquarks in ) are negatively polarized, whereas the sea antiquarks in the Lambda (or the sea quarks in ) are positively polarized. The asymmetry of the polarized fragmentation functions of the sea quarks and antiquarks to Lambda and provides a way to understand the different behavior between the Lambda and spin transfers observed in the recent E665 experiment at FNAL.

Abstract:We suggest a general formalism to treat a baryon as a composite system of three quarks and a `sea'. In this formalism, the sea is a cluster which can consists of gluons and quark-antiquark pairs. The hadron wave function with a sea component is given. The magnetic moments, related sum rules and axial weak coupling constants are obtained. The data seems to favor a vector sea rather than a scalar sea. The quark spin distributions in the nucleon are also discussed.

Abstract:A statistical framework in conjugation with the principle of detailed balance is employed to examine the low-energy properties i.e. charge radii and quadrupole moment of J$^P$=$\frac{1}{2}^+$ octet and J$^P$=$\frac{3}{2}^+$ decuplet baryon. The statistical approach assumes the expansion of baryonic system in terms of quark-gluon Fock states. We systematically apply operator formalism along with the statistical approach to study the charge radii and quadrupole moment of baryons. Based on the probabilities of all possible Fock states in spin, flavor and color space, the importance of sea with quarks and gluons is studied. The individual contribution of the constituent quarks and sea which contains terms of scalar, vector and tensor is explored. Due to large mass difference between strange and non-strange content, the SU(3) breaking effect are also investigated. The extent to which strange quark-antiquark pair is considered in sea is constrained by the mass of hadrons, the free energy of gluons in conformity with experimental indications. We focus on the individual contribution of strange and non-strange sea (g, $\langle u\bar u\rangle$, $\langle d\bar d\rangle$ and $\langle s\bar s\rangle$) accomodability in the respective hadrons for their charge radii and quadrupole moment. The present work has been compared with various theoretical approaches and some known experimental observations. Our computed results may provide important information for upcoming experimental findings.

Magnetic dipole moments of the singly-heavy baryons with spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ and spin-$\frac{3}{2}$

Abstract:The electromagnetic characteristics of singly-heavy baryons at low energies are responsive to their internal composition, structural configuration, and the associated chiral dynamics of light diquarks. To gain further insight, experimentalists are attempting to measure the magnetic and electric dipole moments of charm baryons at the LHC. In view of these developments, we conducted an extensive analysis of the magnetic dipole moments of both $\rm{J^P}=\frac{1}{2}^+$ and $\rm{J^P}=\frac{3}{2}^+$ singly-heavy baryons by means of the QCD light-cone sum rules. Our findings have been compared with other phenomenological estimations that could prove a valuable supplementary resource for interpreting the singly-heavy baryon sector. To shed light on the internal structure of these baryons we study the contributions of the individual quark sectors to the magnetic dipole moments. It was observed that the magnetic dipole moments of the spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ sextet singly-heavy baryons are governed by the light quarks. Conversely, the role of the heavy quark is significantly enhanced for the spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ anti-triplet and spin-$\frac{3}{2}$ sextet singly-heavy baryons. The contribution of light and heavy quarks is observed to have an inverse relationship. The signs of the magnetic dipole moments demonstrate the interaction of the spin degrees of freedom of the quarks. The opposing signs of the light and heavy-quark magnetic dipole moments imply that the spins of these quarks are anti-aligned with respect to each other in the baryon. As a byproduct, the electric quadrupole and magnetic octupole moments of spin-$\frac{3}{2}$ singly-heavy baryons are also calculated. We ascertained the existence of non-zero values for the electric quadrupole and magnetic octupole moments of these baryons, indicative of a non-spherical charge distribution.

Su(3) Breaking from Baryon-Meson Fluctuation in Baryon Magnetic Moments

Abstract:We investigate the effect of intrinsic sea quark-antiquark pairs on the magnetic moments of the SU(3) octet baryons. The intrinsic quark-antiquark pairs are introduced by a model of energetically-favoured non-perturbative baryon-meson fluctuations. It is shown that the baryon-meson fluctuation model provides a mechanism of SU(3) symmetry breaking in the baryon sea and is related to the violations of Gell-Mann-Okubo and Coleman-Glashow sum rules for the baryon magnetic moments. Such a model is also consistent with its explanation of the violations of Gottfried and Ellis-Jaffe sum rules in deep inelastic scattering.

Abstract:Inspired by the discovery of the spin-12 doubly charmed baryon Ξcc++ and the subsequent theoretical studies of its magnetic moments, we study the magnetic moments of its spin-32 heavy quark spin symmetry counterparts, up to the next-to-leading order in covariant baryon chiral perturbation theory with the extended-on-mass-shell renormalization scheme. With the tree-level contributions fixed by the quark model while the two low energy constants C and H controlling the loop contributions determined in two ways: the quark model (case 1) and lattice QCD simulations together with the quark model (case 2), we study the quark mass dependence of the magnetic moments and compare them with the predictions of the heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory. It is shown that the difference is sizable in case 1, but not in case 2 due to the smaller low energy constants C and H, similar to the case of spin-12 doubly charmed baryons. Second, we predict the magnetic moments of the spin-32 doubly charmed baryons and compare them with those of other approaches. The predicted magnetic moments in case 2 for the spin-32 doubly charmed baryons are closer to those of other approaches. In addition, the large differences in case 1 and case 2 for the predicted magnetic moments may indicate the inconsistency between the quark model and the lattice QCD simulations, which should be checked by future experimental or more lattice QCD data.

Spin-$1/2$ invisible particles in heavy meson decays

Abstract:The flavor-changing neutral current decay processes of the $B$ and $B_c$ mesons with the final states involving spin-$1/2$ particles are investigated. By considering the background of the Standard Model where $\nu\bar\nu$ contributes the missing energy and the experimental upper bounds for the branching fractions, we get the constraints of the coupling constants of the quark-antiquark and the assumed invisible particles $\chi\bar\chi$. The constraints of the coupling constants are then used to study the similar processes of the $B_c$ meson. At some specific region of $m_\chi$, the upper limit of BR($B_c\to D_{(s)}\chi\bar\chi$) is of the order of $10^{-6}$, while for BR($B_c\to D^\ast_{(s)}\chi\bar\chi$), it is $10^{-5}$. The possibility of distinguishing $\chi$ to be a Majorana or Dirac fermion by the differential branching fractions is also discussed.

Abstract:We study the partial decay widths of charmonium (bottomonium) states to ${\rm D\bar D \; (B\bar B)}$ mesons in magnetized (nuclear) matter using a field theoretical model of composite hadrons with quark (and antiquark) constituents. These are computed from the mass modifications of the decaying and produced mesons within a chiral effective model, including the nucleon Dirac sea effects. The mass modifications of the open charm (bottom) mesons are calculated from their interactions with the nucleons and the scalar mesons, whereas the mass shift of the heavy quarkonium state is obtained from the medium change of a scalar dilaton field, $\chi$, which mimics the gluon condensates of QCD. The Dirac sea contributions are observed to lead to a rise (drop) in the quark condensates as the magnetic field is increased, an effect called the (inverse) magnetic catalysis. These effects are observed to be significant and the anomalous magnetic moments (AMMs) of the nucleons are observed to play an important role. For $\rho_B$=0, there is observed to be magnetic catalysis (MC) without and with AMMs, whereas, for $\rho_B=\rho_0$, the inverse magnetic catalysis (IMC) is observed when the AMMs are taken into account, contrary to MC, when the AMMs are ignored. In the presence of a magnetic field, there are also mixings of spin 0 (pseudoscalar) and spin 1 (vector) states (PV mixing) which modify the masses of these mesons. The magnetic field effects on the heavy quarkonium decay widths should have observable consequences on the production the heavy flavour mesons, which are created in the early stage of ultra-relativistic peripheral heavy ion collisions, at RHIC and LHC, when the produced magnetic fields can still be extremely large.
