Abstract:Triplet energy transfer between organic dyes and lanthanide-doped luminescent nanoparticles (LnLNPs) energetically bridges organic dyes and inorganic LnLNPs, which can combine superiority and overcome limitations associated with the optical properties of organic dyes and LnLNPs. As a result, the triplet energy transfer can enable the unprecedented performance of organic dyes and LnLNPs in the harvest and conversion of photonic energy. In this review, we first introduce some fundamentals of triplet energy transfer. Probing methods and manipulation strategies for triplet energy transfer between organic dyes and LnLNPs are then surveyed, and recent research directions and corresponding achievements are reviewed. Finally, some challenges and perspectives for pursuing robust, flexible, and efficient triplet energy transfer between organic dyes and LnLNPs are discussed.

Abstract:This review summarizes recent work in nanoscale luminescent materials of rare earth compounds. This review concentrates on the preparation, structure and luminescence properties of nanoscale rare earth compounds. Spectroscopic studies range from basic luminescence spectroscopy, luminescence intensity and decay time to concentration quench. Finally, some suggestions of further research work are preferred.

Abstract:The recent progress in rare-earth phosphate luminescent nanomaterials is reviewed.The preparation methods of the nanomaterials are compiled.The application and new progress in the hydrothermal synthesis method,sonochemical synthesis method,and microwave heating method etc.for the preparation of the nanomaterials are discussed in detail.The luminescent mechanism of the nanomaterials is elucidated from the microstructure viewpoint.The effects of doping of rare-earth metal ions,shell-core structure,morphology,and crystal structure on the fluorescent properties of rate-earth phosphates are extensively discussed.

Abstract:Rare-earth-based nanoparticles are currently attracting wide research interest in material science, physics, chemistry, medicine, and biology due to their optical properties, their stability, and novel applications. We present in this review a summarized overview of the general and recent developments in their synthesis and functionalization. Their luminescent properties are also discussed, including the latest advances in the enhancement of their emission luminescence. Some of their more relevant and novel biomedical, analytical, and optoelectronic applications are also commented on.

Abstract:Recently, the developing direction of materials is the functional complementarity and the property optimization. The rare earth complexes have highly luminescent properties and good chromatic purity, but they are unstable and lack the desired mechanical properties to be directly used as luminescent sources. These problems are expected to be solved by doping the complexes into suitable solid matrices. The resulting (inorganic/)organic hybrid luminescent materials combine the respective characteristics of organic and inorganic parts. According to the interactions between the rare earth complexes and the matrices, the hybrid materials include Class Ⅰ(the interactions are weak, typically hydrogen bonds or Van der Waals forces) and Class Ⅱ(the organic ligand is covalently linked to the silica framework). We briefly describe the preparation methods and give a review on the developments for the two classes hybrid luminescent materials. The developing trend for inorganic/organic hybrid materials doped with rare earth complex is also prospected.

Abstract:Rare-earth luminescent material is a new kind of functional material with great potential.The research progress of the rare-earth luminescent materials in home and abroad are described in this paper.At the same time,the luminescent characteristics,applications,preparation methods and luminescent mechanisms for different familiar kinds of rareearth luminescent materials are summarized.Finally,the problems that should be solved during the development of the rareearth luminescent materials are analyzed,and the future development trend for this kind of materials is forecasted.

It covers the multi-component luminescent rare earth hybrids which was assembled with different (a) organic-inorganic polymeric units, (b) nanoporous units, (c) nanoparticle composites or (d) other developing special units. Finally, future challenges and opportunities in this field are discussed. Herein it mainly focuses on the work of Yan's group in recent years.

Abstract:The rare earth complexes have a few good features, which combine the good stabilities of inorganic component with high luminescence quantum efficiencies of organic component. Meanwhile, they can be designed and easy synthetized, and have excellent photoluminescent properties, such as sharp emission spectra for high color purity, broad emission bands covering the visible to near infrared region, a wide range of lifetimes, and high luminescence quantum efficiencies. However, the factors such as poor stabilities under high temperature or moisture conditions and low mechanical strength limit their practical use. In order to circumvent these drawbacks, rare earth complexes have been incorporated into the matrices to constitute hybrid materials. The solid matrices could be divided into inorganic, organic and inorganic/organic mixed matrices. Herein, the research progresses of different matrices based lanthanide hybrid materials have been reviewed. The effects of the host-guest interactions on the photophysical behaviors and stabilities of the hybrid materials have also been discussed. The research results of this review might have theoretical significance for the potential applications of the rare earth luminescent materials in the fields of lighting devices (light-emitting diodes, optical fibers, optical amplifiers, lasers) and biomedical analysis.

Abstract:Lanthanide (Ln 3+ ) complexes with organic ligands have recently gained extensive attention due to their unique optical features such as high color purity, narrow and intense emission bands and long excited state lifetimes, showing diverse applications in tunable lasers, optical amplifiers, biomedical diagnosis, high density information storage and so on. However, some inherent shortcomings, such as poor stability (photo-, thermal- and mechanical), low processability and the tendency to aggregate significantly, limit their full exploitation in practical applications. Incorporating of Ln 3+ complexes into polymers matrices are effective means to improve their properties and broaden their applications. In recent decades, significant progress has been made in Ln 3+ complexes-containing polymers, varying from structural evolution of ligand molecules and polymers to application expansion of luminescent functional polymers. This review will systematically summarize the key points in the synthesis methods (including both physical doping and chemical cross-linking) of Ln 3+ complexes-containing polymers. The critical strategies to prepare self-healing luminescent polymers will be discussed in detail. We then review the emerging applications of Ln 3+ complexes-containing polymers ranging from light-conversion films, organic light-emitting diodes, bio-imaging to temperature sensing applications. At the end of this review, we will provide an outlook on the opportunities and challenges of Ln 3+ complexes-containing polymers.

Abstract:The rare earth oxychlorides are extensively used as luminescent matrixes owing to their high absorption of light and energy transfer efficiency.The rare earth oxychlorides have become one of the popular research subjects in the realm of optical functional materials in recent years due to their wide applications in the fields of color display,catalysis,biolabeling,photoelectric conversion,gas sensing,etc.Presently,many methods have been successfully employed for fabrication of rare earth oxychloride micro-and nanomaterials with different shapes,such as microparticles,nanobars,nanosheets,nanorods,nanoneedle bundles,nanofiber,nanobelts,nanotubes,etc.,including solid state reaction method,precipitation method,liquid-phase high temperature calcination method,hydrothermal-solvothermal method,precursors thermal decomposition method,sol-gel method and electrospinning technique.In this paper,the advancements of the above fabrication methods are summarized,and the advantages and disadvantages of these methods are discussed.Moreover,combining with our work on the preparation of rare earth oxychloride nanomaterials,the development trends of fabrication methods for rare earth oxychloride nanomaterials are also proposed.

Abstract:Near‐infrared materials exhibiting high photoluminescence quantum yields present a promising avenue to broaden our capacity and threshold for detection and manipulation, extending beyond the visible emission range. The spotlight has shifted to near‐infrared (NIR) luminescent materials emitting beyond 1000 nm, with growing interest due to their unique characteristics. The ability of NIR‐II emission (1000‐1700 nm) to penetrate deeply and transmit independently positions these NIR luminescent materials for applications in optical‐communication devices, bioimaging, and photodetectors. The combination of rare earth metals/transition metals with a variety of matrix materials provides a new platform for creating new chemical and physical properties for materials science and device applications. In this review, we summarize the recent advancements in NIR emission activated by rare earth and transition metal ions and illustrate their role in applications spanning bioimaging, sensing, and optoelectronics. We start from the various synthesis techniques, including high‐temperature solid‐state, hydrothermal, and thermal decomposition methods, on how to delicately incorporate the rare‐earth/transition metals to the NIR various matrixes, each imparting distinct characteristics to these luminescent materials. We then extend the discussion to strategies of enhancing excitation absorption and emission efficiency, spotlighting innovations like dye sensitization and surface plasmon resonance effects. Subsequently, a significant focus is placed on functionalization strategies and their applications. Finally, we provide a comprehensive analysis of the challenges and proposed strategies for rare earth/transition metal ion‐doped near‐infrared luminescent materials, summarizing the insights of each section. Abstract:Supramolecular chemistry is progressively exploited as an effective design tool to organize different types of molecules into unique architectures with precisely controlled structures and functions. The development of luminescent materials constructed by assembly is one of the directions in which supramolecular chemistry plays an important role. The introduction of supramolecular approaches not only simplifies complicated design and time-consuming synthe sis of complex and multifunctional molecules but it also endows the materials with the characteristics of luminescence tunability and stimuli responsiveness. Here, we highlight recent progress and emerging directions in the fabrication of artificial assembling systems with luminescence to enrich the concept of "assemblinginduced emission." We hope that this review functions as an aid to understand the emissive mechanism and construct a strategy for various emissive materials based on assembly systems.

Abstract:The development of novel phosphor materials with excellent performance and modification of their photoluminescence to meet the higher requirements for applications are the essential research subjects for luminescent materials. Multi-site luminescent materials with crystallographic sites for the activator ions that broaden the tunable range of luminescent spectra and even enhance the luminescent performance have attracted significant attention in the pursuit of high-quality luminescence for white light-emitting diodes. Here, we summarize multi-site luminescence characteristics based on the different kinds of host and activator ions, introduce the identifications of multi-site activator ions via optical analysis, provide a structural analysis and theoretical calculation methods, and introduce the regulation strategies and advance applications of multi-site phosphors. The review reveals the relationship between crystal structure and luminescent properties and discusses future opportunities for multi-site phosphors. This will provide guidance for the design and development of luminescent materials or other materials science.

The results show that different rare earth ions, the first ligands and the second ligands can all affect the photoluminescence and electroluminescence of the complexes.

Abstract:<p>Lanthanide-based hybrid materials constructed by host–guest assembly strategy, displaying improved stability, better procesability and excellent luminescence performance simultaneously, have aroused much attention recently owing to their potential applications in various fields. This review mainly summarized some of the special luminescent hybrid materials using simpler and greener preparation strategy, including water-soluble hybrid materials, luminescent soft-hybrid materials based on ionic liquids, self-healing luminescent hybrid materials and luminescent hybrid materials based on bio-related materials. Particularly, this review discussed the deeper understanding of the influence on the luminescent behaviors exerted by some of inorganic matrices used to prepare the luminescent hybrid materials, and their potential applications in fields such as solar cells, LED, etc. Finally, the current challenges and future prospects in this regard be proposed.</p>

Abstract:Organic dyes based hybrid organic-inorganic luminescent nanomaterials with high quantum efficiency, good physical or chemical stability, and favorable biocompatibility, have attracted growing attention recently because of their important applications in the areas of biomedical imaging, chemical sensors, and light-emitting diodes (LEDs). Nevertheless, conventional fluorescence molecules suffer from aggregation-caused quenching (ACQ) when they are doped into inorganic nanomaterials. Aggregation-induced emission (AIE) is an abnormal and intriguing fluorescent phenomenon that has aroused increasing interest for various applications especially in biomedical fields. Compared with conventional organic dyes, the AIE-active molecules will emit more intense fluorescence in their aggregates or solid states. It provides an elegant route to overcome the drawbacks of conventional organic molecules. Over the past few decades, the fabrication and surface modification of various organic-inorganic luminescent composites doped with AIE-active molecules have been reported. Therefore, it is highly desirable to summarize these advances. In this review, recent advances and progress in constructing various AIEgens-doped organic-inorganic hybrid nanocomposites and their subsequent surface modification were summarized. We hope this review could further promote the research of AIE-active functional materials.
