Abstract:The COVID-19 pandemic that has hit the world since the beginning of 2020 has caused significant instability in the global economic sector. One aspect that has been drastically affected is the labour market, with an unprecedented increase in unemployment. In addition, the implications of this pandemic can also be identified through the producer price index, with unpredictable price fluctuations in spending. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the relationship between the labor market, unemployment and the producer price index before, during and after the Covid-19 pandemic. This study will use quantitative data collection and analysis methods that involve the collection of secondary data from reliable sources such as the Malaysian Open Data Portal, Bank Negara Malaysia and the Department of Statistics Malaysia. The data will include key indicators such as total unemployment, the labor market in different industries, wages, the unemployment rate, as well as the producer price index over the relevant time period since the start of the pandemic. The study found that the enforcement of the MCO has affected the labor market, the amount of unemployment and the Producer Price Index (IHPR). Changes in the IHPR depend on the type of industry. The results of this study are expected to provide a deeper understanding of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in Malaysia on the labor market, unemployment and the producer price index.
