Abstract:We compute the next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) QCD corrections to event shape distributions and their mean values in deep inelastic lepton-nucleon scattering. The magnitude and shape of the corrections varies considerably between different variables. The corrections reduce the renormalization and factorization scale uncertainty of the predictions. Using a dispersive model to describe non-perturbative power corrections, we compare the NNLO QCD predictions with data from the H1 and ZEUS experiments. The newly derived corrections improve the theory description of the distributions and of their mean values.

Abstract:We investigate the origin of next-to-leading power corrections to the event shapes thrust and $c$-parameter, at next-to-leading order. For both event shapes we trace the origin of such terms in the exact calculation, and compare with a recent approach involving the eikonal approximation and momentum shifts that follow from the Low-Burnett-Kroll-Del Duca theorem. We assess the differences both analytically and numerically. For the $c$-parameter both exact and approximate results are expressed in terms of elliptic integrals, but near the elastic limit it exhibits patterns similar to the thrust results.

Abstract:The program of understanding inverse-power law corrections to event shapes and energy flow observables in e+ e- annihilation to two jets and DIS (1+1) jets has been a significant success of QCD phenomenology over the last decade. The important extension of this program to similar observables in hadron collisions is not straightforward, being obscured by both conceptual and technical issues. In this paper we shed light on some of these issues by providing an estimate of power corrections to the inter-jet E_t flow distribution in hadron collisions using the techniques that were employed in the e+ e- annihilation and DIS cases.

Exploring soft anomalous dimensions for $1/Q$ power corrections

Abstract:In this article we study, via analytical methods, $1/Q$ non-perturbative power corrections to event shape mean values, addressing in particular the question of their interplay with soft perturbative emissions. Specifically we point out that energy-ordered soft perturbative emissions that precede a non-perturbative emission, give rise to terms of the form $\frac{1}{Q} \left (\alpha_s \ln \frac{Q}{\Lambda} \right)^n$. While such terms are formally higher order in the strong coupling, their form suggests that they can numerically compete with the leading $1/Q$ term while also modifying the $Q$ dependence of the result. The resummation of such power-suppressed but logarithmically enhanced terms lends an anomalous dimension to the leading $1/Q$ power correction. In order to argue for the presence of such an anomalous dimension, we formulate a method to compute the first order in $\alpha_s$ correction for the mean values of the thrust $1-T$ and $C$-parameter observables. We comment on our findings in light of the standard picture of universality of $1/Q$ power corrections for event shape variables and implications for phenomenology.

Abstract:In this paper we calculate the power corrections to the pion transition form factor within the framework of perturbative QCD approach on the basis of k_T factorization. The power suppressed contributions from higher twist pion wave functions and the hadronic structure of photon are investigated. We find that there exists strong cancellation between the two kinds contributions, thus the total power corrections considered currently are very small, and the prediction of the leading power contribution with joint resummation improved perturbative QCD approach is almost unchanged. This result confirms that the pion transition form factor is a good platform to constrain the nonperturbative parameters in pion wave functions. Moreover, our result can accommodate the anomalous data from BaBar, or agrees with results from Belle according to the choice of Gegebauer moment in the pion wave function, and the more precise experimental data from Belle-II is expected.

Abstract:Recently, Belle and BaBar Collaborations observed surprising suppression in the endpoint J/ψ spectrum, which stimulates us to examine the endpoint behaviors of the e+e−→J/ψgg production. We calculate the J/ψ momentum and angular distributions for this process within the framework of the soft-collinear effective theory (SCET). The decreasing spectrum in the endpoint region is obtained by summing the Sudakov logarithms. We also find a large discrepancy between the NRQCD and SCET spectrum in the endpoint region even before the large logarithms are summed, which is probably due to the fact that only the scalar structure of the two-gluon system is picked out in the leading power expansion. A comparison with the process ϒ→γgg is made.

Abstract:We present the first results for the next-to-next-to leading order (NNLO) corrections to the semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering process in perturbative quantum chromodynamics. We consider the quark initiated flavor nonsinglet process and obtain the complete contributions analytically at leading color. All relevant virtual and real emission Feynman diagrams have been computed using integration-by-parts reduction to master integrals and two approaches for their subsequent evaluation (parametric phase-space integration and method of differential equations). Abstract:In this paper, we focus on the role of power corrections in QCD factorization(QCDF) method in charmless two-body nonleptonic $B$ meson decays. We use the ratio of the branching fraction of $B^+ \to \pi^+ K^{\ast 0}$ to that of $B^0 \to \pi^- \rho^+$, for which the theoretical uncertainties are greatly reduced, to show clearly that the power corrections in charmless B decays are probably large. With other similar ratios considered, for example, for the $B^0 \to K^- \rho^+$ decay, it is very likely that, among various sources of power corrections, annihilation topology plays an indispensable role at least for penguin dominated $\rm PV$ channels. We also consider some selective ratios of direct CP asymmetries. Among these, we find that, if power corrections other than the chirally enhanced power corrections and annihilation topology were negligible, QCDF would predict the direct CP asymmetry of $B \to \pi^+ \pi^-$ to be about 3 times larger than that of $B \to \pi^\pm K^\mp$, with opposite sign. Experimentally any significant deviation from this prediction would suggest either new physics or possibly the importance of long-distance rescattering effects.

Abstract:We reanalyze deep inelastic scattering data of BCDMS Collaboration by including proper cuts of ranges with large systematic errors. We perform also the fits of high statistic deep inelastic scattering data of BCDMS, SLAC, NM and BFP Collaborations taking the data separately and in combined way and find good agreement between these analyses. We extract the values of both the QCD coupling constant \alpha_s(M^2_Z) up to NLO level and of the power corrections to the structure function F_2.

Abstract:We study the power corrections for electroweak boson production that are implied by threshold resummation, which we have extended to massive particles produced at measured transverse momentum, $p_T$, and rapidity. Power corrections in the resulting expressions arise from ambiguities in the low-scale behavior of the perturbative running coupling. Arguing for the relevance of the eikonal approximation, we show that such power corrections begin at order $1/p_T^2$ in full QCD, consistent with fixed-order, massive-gluon analysis. For large-$N$ Mellin moments, the leading behavior is $N^2/p_T^2$, which exponentiates along with the logarithms of threshold resummation.

Abstract:A bstract Dynamics of high energy scattering in Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) are primarily probed through detector energy flow correlations. One important example is the Energy-Energy Correlator (EEC), whose back-to-back limit probes correlations of QCD on the lightcone and can be described by a transverse-momentum dependent factorization formula in the leading power approximation. In this work, we develop a systematic method to go beyond this approximation. We identify the origin of logarithmically enhanced contributions in the back-to-back limit as the exchange of operators with low twists and large spins in the local operator product expansion. Using techniques from the conformal bootstrap, the large logarithms beyond leading power can be resummed to all orders in the perturbative coupling. As an illustration of this method, we perform an all-order resummation of the leading and next-to-leading logarithms beyond the leading power in $$ \mathcal{N} $$ N = 4 Super Yang-Mills theory.

Transverse-Energy-Energy Correlations in Deep Inelastic Scattering

Abstract:Event shape observables have been widely used for precision QCD studies at various lepton and hadron colliders. We present the most accurate calculation of the transverse-energy-energy correlation event shape variable in deep-inelastic scattering. In the framework of soft-collinear effective theory the cross section is factorized as the convolution of the hard function, beam function, jet function and soft function in the back-to-back limit. A close connection to TMD factorization is established, as the beam function when combined with part of the soft function is identical to the conventional TMD parton distribution function, and the jet function is the second moment of the TMD fragmentation function matching coefficient. We validate our framework by comparing the obtained LO and NLO leading singular distributions to the full QCD calculations in the back-to-back limit. We report the resummed transverse-energy-energy correlation distributions up to N$^3$LL accuracy matched with the NLO cross section for the production of a lepton and two jets. Our work provides a new way to precisely study TMD physics at the future Electron-Ion Collider.

Abstract:A number of important observables exhibit logarithms in their perturbative description that are induced by emissions at widely separated rapidities. These include transverse-momentum (qT) logarithms, logarithms involving heavy-quark or electroweak gauge boson masses, and small-x logarithms. In this paper, we initiate the study of rapidity logarithms, and the associated rapidity divergences, at subleading order in the power expansion. This is accomplished using the soft collinear effective theory (SCET). We discuss the structure of subleading-power rapidity divergences and how to consistently regulate them. We introduce a new pure rapidity regulator and a corresponding $$ \overline{\mathrm{MS}} $$ -like scheme, which handles rapidity divergences while maintaining the homogeneity of the power expansion. We find that power-law rapidity divergences appear at subleading power, which give rise to derivatives of parton distribution functions. As a concrete example, we consider the qT spectrum for color-singlet production, for which we compute the complete q 2 /Q2 suppressed power corrections at $$ \mathcal{O}\left({\alpha}_s\right) $$ , including both logarithmic and nonlogarithmic terms. Our results also represent an important first step towards carrying out a resummation of subleading-power rapidity logarithms.

Abstract:We calculate nuclear enhanced power corrections to structure functions measured in deeply inelastic lepton–nucleus scattering in Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD). We find that the nuclear medium enhanced power corrections at order of O(αs/Q2) enhance the longitudinal structure function FL, and suppress the transverse structure function F1. We demonstrate that strong nuclear effects in σA/σD and RA/RD, recently observed by HERMES Collaboration, can be explained in terms of the nuclear enhanced power corrections.
