Abstract:We consider N = 2 superconformal field theory with following properties: a) Coulomb branch operators have fractional scaling dimensions, b) there are exact marginal deformations . The weakly coupled gauge theory descriptions are found by decomposing 3d mirror into different components, and different decompositions correspond to different duality frames. The gauge theory is formed by gauging Argyres-Douglas matter, and we write down all duality frames for several classes with infinite sequence of theories.

Abstract:We argue that G_2 manifolds for M-theory admitting string theory Calabi-Yau duals are fibered by coassociative submanifolds. Dual theories are constructed using the moduli space of M5-brane fibers as target space. Mirror symmetry and various string and M-theory dualities involving G_2 manifolds may be incorporated into this framework. To give some examples, we construct two non-compact manifolds with G_2 structures: one with a K3 fibration, and one with a torus fibration and a metric of G_2 holonomy. Kaluza-Klein reduction of the latter solution gives abelian BPS monopoles in 3+1 dimensions.
A Duality Web in 2+1 Dimensions and Condensed Matter Physics

Abstract:Building on earlier work in the high energy and condensed matter communities, we present a web of dualities in $2+1$ dimensions that generalize the known particle/vortex duality. Some of the dualities relate theories of fermions to theories of bosons. Others relate different theories of fermions. For example, the long distance behavior of the $2+1$-dimensional analog of QED with a single Dirac fermion (a theory known as $U(1)_{1/2}$) is identified with the $O(2)$ Wilson-Fisher fixed point. The gauged version of that fixed point with a Chern-Simons coupling at level one is identified as a free Dirac fermion. The latter theory also has a dual version as a fermion interacting with some gauge fields. Assuming some of these dualities, other dualities can be derived. Our analysis resolves a number of confusing issues in the literature including how time reversal is realized in these theories. It also has many applications in condensed matter physics like the theory of topological insulators (and their gapped boundary states) and the problem of electrons in the lowest Landau level at half filling. (Our techniques also clarify some points in the fractional Hall effect and its description using flux attachment.) In addition to presenting several consistency checks, we also present plausible (but not rigorous) derivations of the dualities and relate them to $3+1$-dimensional $S$-duality.

Abstract:We consider 5 d KK dualities, that is multiple 5 d gauge theories with the same 6 d infinite coupling limit. We provide a prescription to associate 4 d = 1 quivers to the 5 d dual quivers, such that the 4 d quivers are also dual to each other. The 4 d dualities are infrared dualities which can be checked matching global symmetry anomalies and in certain cases can be proven using basic Seiberg dualities sequentially. We also consider dualities obtained by Higgsing in two different ways the same 5 d theory, in some simple examples.

Duality in Monoidal Categories

Abstract:We compare closed and rigid monoidal categories. Closedness is defined by the tensor product having a right adjoint: the internal-hom functor. Rigidity, on the other hand, generalises the duality of finite-dimensional vector spaces. In the latter, the internal-hom functor is implemented by tensoring with the respective duals. This raises the question: can one decide whether a closed monoidal category is rigid, simply by verifying that the internal-hom is tensor-representable? We provide a counterexample in terms of finitely-generated projective objects in an abelian k-linear category. A byproduct of our work is that we obtain characterisations of the Grothendieck--Verdier duality, also called *-autonomy, and rigidity of functor categories endowed with Day convolution as their tensor product. Applied to Mackey functors, this yields a proof of a sketched argument by Bouc linking rigidity of an object to it being finitely-generated projective.

Abstract:The paper presents a detailed description of duality for braided algebras, coalgebras, bialgebras, Hopf algebras and their modules and comodules in the infinite setting. Assuming that the dual objects exist, it is shown how a given braiding induces compatible braidings for the dual objects, and how actions (resp. coactions) can be turned into coactions (resp. actions) of the dual coalgebra (resp. algebra), with an emphasis on braided bialgebras and their braided (co)module algebras.

Precisely, he show that for any flat,locally projectivea and finitely presented morphism of schemes $\pi:X\rightarrow S$ whose fibers are of pure dimension $n$, the functor ${\rm I}\!{\rm R}^{n}\pi_{*}:{\rm Q}coh(X) \rightarrow {\rm Q}coh(S)$ admits a right adjoint covariant functor (noted $\pi^{!}_{\mathcal K}$) inducing, for any quasi-coherent sheaves ${\mathcal F}$ and ${\mathcal G}$ on $X$ and $S$ respectively, a relative duality isomorphism ${\rm I}\!{\rm H}om(X; {\mathcal F},\pi^{!}_{\mathcal K}({\mathcal G}))\simeq {\rm I}\!{\rm H}om(S; {\rm I}\!{\rm R}^{n}\pi_{*}{\mathcal F}, {\mathcal G})$ bifunctorial in ${\mathcal F}$, ${\mathcal G}$ satisfying many nice functorial properties. Furthermore, he shows that full duality is achieved if and only if $\pi$ is Cohen Macaulay morphism. We show in the first part which concerns proper morphism of complex spaces with constant fibers dimension that we have a similar duality in this context with the same conclusion for the full duality. In the secod part, the morphism are not necessarly proper but equidimensional or open with constant fibers dimension. The situation is much more complicated because we must use a specific analytic geometry tools. Infinite dimensional cohomology groups considered as locally convex vectorial topological spaces are generally not Hausdorff, the higher direct image with propre support ${\rm I}\!{\rm R}^{n}\pi_{!}$ are generally never coherent. Despite all this problems, we are able to give a semi-relative duality theorem as mentioned above and in a certain sense.

Duality for Hodge-Witt cohomology with modulus

Abstract:Given an effective Cartier divisor D with simple normal crossing support on a smooth and proper scheme X over a perfect field of positive characteristic p, there is a natural notion of de Rham-Witt sheaves on X with zeros along D. We show that these sheaves correspond under Grothendieck duality for coherent sheaves to de Rham-Witt sheaves on X with modulus (X,D), as defined in the theory of cube invariant modulus sheaves with transfers developed by Kahn-Miyazaki-Saito-Yamazaki. From this we deduce refined versions of Ekedahl - and Poincaré duality for crystalline cohomology generalizing results of Mokrane and Nakkajima for reduced D, and a modulus version of Milne-Kato duality for étale motivic cohomology with p-primary torsion coefficients, which refines a result of Jannsen-Saito-Zhao. We furthermore get new integral models for rigid cohomology with compact supports on the complement of D and a modulus version of Milne's perfect Brauer group pairing for smooth projective surfaces over finite fields.

Abstract:We find new $\mathcal{N}=(2,2)$ and $\mathcal{N}=(0,2)$ dualities through the twisted compactifications of 4d supersymmetric theories on $S^2$. Our findings include dualities for both $\mathcal{N}=(2,2)$ and $\mathcal{N}=(0,2)$ non-Abelian gauge theories, as well as $\mathcal{N}=(0,2)$ Gauge/Landau-Ginzburg duality.

Spanier-Whitehead K-Duality and Duality of Extensions of $C^*$-algebras

Abstract:KK-theory is a bivariant and homotopy-invariant functor on $C^*$-algebras that combines K-theory and K-homology. KK-groups form the morphisms in a triangulated category. Spanier-Whitehead K-Duality intertwines the homological with the cohomological side of KK-theory. Any extension of a unital $C^*$-algebra by the compacts has two natural exact triangles associated to it (the extension sequence itself and a mapping cone sequence). We find a duality (based on Spanier-Whitehead K-duality) that interchanges the roles of these two triangles together with their six-term exact sequences. This allows us to give a categorical picture for the duality of Cuntz-Krieger-Toeplitz extensions discovered by K. Matsumoto.

Abstract:We give an explicit formula for the duality, previously conjectured by Horja and Borisov, of two systems of GKZ hypergeometric PDEs. We prove that in the appropriate limit this duality can be identified with the inverse of the Euler characteristics pairing on cohomology of certain toric Deligne-Mumford stacks, by way of Γ-series cohomology valued solutions to the equations.

One-dimensional Carrollian fluids I: Carroll-Galilei duality

Abstract:Galilean and Carrollian algebras acting on two-dimensional Newton-Cartan and Carrollian manifolds are isomorphic. A consequence of this property is a duality correspondence between one-dimensional Galilean and Carrollian fluids. We describe the dynamics of these systems as they emerge from the relevant limits of Lorentzian hydrodynamics, and explore the advertised duality relationship. This interchanges longitudinal and transverse directions with respect to the flow velocity, and permutes equilibrium and out-of-equilibrium observables, unveiling specific features of Carrollian physics. We investigate the action of local hydrodynamic-frame transformations in the Galilean and Carrollian configurations, i.e. dual Galilean and Carrollian local boosts, and comment on their potential breaking. Emphasis is laid on the additional geometric elements that are necessary to attain complete systems of hydrodynamic equations in Newton-Cartan and Carroll spacetimes. Our analysis is conducted in general Cartan frames as well as in more explicit coordinates, specifically suited to Galilean or Carrollian use.

Abstract:We propose a generalisation of the Moore-Tachikawa varieties for the case in which the target category of the 2D TFT is a hyperk$\ddot{\text{a}}$hler quotient. The setup requires generalising the bordism operators of Moore and Segal to the case involving lack of reparametrisation-invariance on the Riemann surface, ultimately enabling to relate this to the issue of defining a Drinfeld center for composite class ${\cal S}$ theories.

Higher local duality in Galois cohomology

Abstract:A field $K$ is $d$-local if there exist fields $K=k_d,\dots,k_0$ with $k_{i+1}$ completely discretely valued with residue field $k_i$, and $k_0$ quasi-finite. We prove a duality theorem for the Galois cohomology of such $K$ with many coefficients, including finite coefficients of any order. Previously, such duality was only known in few cases : as a perfect pairing of finite groups for finite coefficients prime to $\mathrm{char} k_0$ in general, or for any finite coefficients when $k_1$ is $p$-adic ; or as a perfect pairing of locally compact Hausdorff groups for the $\mathrm{fppf}$ cohomology of finite group schemes when $K$ is local. With no obvious reasonable topology available, we abandon perfectness altogether and instead obtain nondegenerate pairings of abstract abelian groups. This is done with new diagram-chasing results for pairings of torsion groups, allowing an approach by dévissage which breaks our results down to the study of pairings $K^M_r(K)/p\times H^{d+1-r}_p(K)\to\mathbb Z/p$ using results of Kato.

Duality invariance: from M-theory to double field theory

Abstract:We show how the duality invariant approach to M-theory formulated by Berman and Perry relates to the double field theory proposed by Hull and Zwiebach. In doing so we provide suggestions as to how Ramond fields can be incorporated into the double field theory. We find that the standard dimensional reduction procedure has a duality invariant (doubled) analogue in which the gauge fields of the doubled Kaluza-Klein ansatz encode the Ramond potentials. We identify the internal gauge index of these gauge fields with a spinorial index of O(d, d).

Local duality theorems for commutative algebraic groups

Abstract:If k is an arbitrary field, we construct a category of k-1-motives in which every commutative algebraic k-group G has a dual object $G^{\vee}$. When k is a local field of arbitrary characteristic, we establish Pontryagin duality theorems that relate the fppf cohomology groups of G to the hypercohomology groups of the k-1-motive $G^{\vee}$. We also obtain a duality theorem for the second cohomology group of an arbitrary k-1-motive. These results have applications (to be discussed elsewhere) to certain extensions of Lichtenbaum-van Hamel duality to a class of non-smooth proper k-varieties.

Non-Invertible Duality Interfaces in Field Theories with Exotic Symmetries

Abstract:In recent years, the concept of global symmetry has generalized considerably. Two dramatic examples of this generalization are the exotic symmetries that govern theories with fractons and non-invertible symmetries, which do not fuse according to a group law. Only recently has the interplay between these two been examined. In this paper, we provide further examples of the interplay in the XY plaquette model, XY cube model, 1+1 d theory with global dipole symmetry, and the 2+1 d Lifshitz theory. They are analogs of the duality symmetries in 2d CTFs and are constructed by first gauging a finite subgroup of the momentum symmetry on half of spacetime and then performing a duality transformation. We analyze the fusion rules of the symmetries and find that they are condensation defects from an analog of higher gauging exotic symmetries. We also address their dependence on the UV cutoff when relevant.
