Abstract:The direct synthesis of organosilicon monomer (methylchlorosilane) is the key and foundation stone of the global silicone industry. The advances in methylchlorosilane synthesis in past few years are reviewed, including raw materials, promoters and technological process. The raw silicon is evaluated quantitatively and characterized with morphology in order to uncover the mechanism of the reaction. In the discussion, focus is laid on the use of catalytic promotion for the graduation of quaternary form of it into the catalytic promotion of CuZnSnSiP for improving the selectivity of dimethyldichlorosilane, production rate of methylchlorosilane, and silicon utilization. Finally, the development trends of the direct synthesis of methylchlorosilanes are pointed out.

Abstract:Chiral organosilanes are of great value in asymmetric synthesis, functional materials, and medicinal chemistry. Compared with single-silyl compounds, bis(silyl) ones are understudied because of the lack of the efficient synthetic protocols. The development of efficient synthetic approaches to access bis(silyl) compounds is highly desirable for studying their basic properties and potential utilities. Here, a cobalt-catalyzed sequential double hydrosilylation of aliphatic alkynes was developed to synthesize highly enantioenriched gem-bis(silyl)alkanes. This protocol used simple aliphatic alkynes and silanes to construct valuable chiral gem-bis(silyl)alkanes. The control experiments, isotopic labeling experiments, kinetic studies, and density functional theory calculations were conducted to elucidate the reaction mechanism. The synthetic versatility of gem-bis(silyl)alkanes was demonstrated by the synthesis of chiral organosilanols, α-hydroxysilanes through selective C–Si bond transformation and hydrosilylation of alkynes to construct chiral silanes containing adjacent C-stereocenter and Si-stereocenter.

Abstract:Addition of interelement compounds across alkynes is a straightforward strategy for the synthesis of densely functionalized alkenes, which are versatile units in numerous biologically active compounds. Of these processes the bis-silylation of alkynes is of particular interest, due to the synthetic use of the alkenyl silane reaction products. While cis -bis-silylation of alkynes is well known, trans -bis-silyation of alkynes is relatively underdeveloped. Here, we report the intermolecular trans -bis-silylation of terminal alkynes, using Pd-catalysis and disilane reagent 8-(2-substituted-1,1,2,2-tetramethyldisilanyl)quinoline (TMDQ), to selectively form trans -bis-silylated alkenes. The reaction process was found to be compatible with aryl and alkyl alkynes as well as those bearing electron-withdrawing groups and other alkenyl or alkynyl functionalities. The use of the reaction was displayed through late-stage functionalization of terminal alkynes bearing natural product or drug motifs and onward synthetic transformations of the trans -bis-silylated alkenes reaction products. Experimental and computational mechanistic studies reveal that the reaction probably proceeds through a combined cis -bis-silylation and Z / E isomerization process and that the use of TMDQ as the limiting reagent is key to the desired reactivity.

Abstract:Disilylation of alkynes could provide rapid entry to synthetically useful 1,2-bissilyl-alkenes, but is currently limited to activated disilanes reacting in an intramolecular fashion. Reported herein is an efficient rhodium(I)-catalyzed intermolecular disilylation of a wide array of alkynones with unactivated disilanes. Importantly, this reaction produces exclusively trans-disilylation products, selectivity that has been rarely reported. These disilylation products were transformed into interesting pentacyclic vinyl silane ethers, among other additional synthetic manipulations. Mechanistic studies uncovered that the unactivated disilanes underwent facile Si-Si activation and crossover under the reaction conditions.

Abstract:AbstractDouble hydrosilylation of alkynes represents a straightforward method to synthesize bis(silane)s, yet it is challenging if α‐substituted vinylsilanes act as the intermediates. Here, a cobalt‐catalyzed regiodivergent double hydrosilylation of arylacetylenes is reported for the first time involving this challenge, accessing both vicinal and geminal bis(silane)s with exclusive regioselectivity. Various novel bis(silane)s containing Si−H bonds can be easily obtained. The gram‐scale reactions could be performed smoothly. Preliminarily mechanistic studies demonstrated that the reactions were initiated by cobalt‐catalyzed α‐hydrosilylation of alkynes, followed by cobalt‐catalyzed β‐hydrosilylation of the α‐vinylsilanes to deliver vicinal bis(silane)s, or hydride‐catalyzed α‐hydrosilylation to give geminal ones. Notably, these bis(silane)s can be used for the synthesis of high‐refractive‐index polymers (nd up to 1.83), demonstrating great potential utility in optical materials.

Abstract:Here, we disclose a general approach for the diverse synthesis of alkenylsilanes in a highly efficient, stereoselective, and atom-economic manner by leveraging the palladium-catalyzed disilylation reaction of 2-bromostyrene derivatives with hexamethyldisilane, which is suitable for the preparation of a series of disubstituted, trisubstituted, and tetrasubstituted alkenylsilanes. Furthermore, the resulting tetrasubstituted alkenylsilanes could be readily transformed into the corresponding diarylated benzosiloles, which have been proven to be a potential AIE material and a fluorene material.

Abstract:Recent Advances of Sustainable Desilylation Reactions Silicon, due to its abundance, non‐toxicity, and cost‐effectiveness, is a critical element in the earth's crust with significant industrial applications. In organic chemistry, main group elements, and in particular silicon, are extensively utilized as versatile synthetic intermediates. Despite the current challenges associated with harsh reaction conditions and unsustainable practices in synthesizing crucial organic structural molecules, desilylation reactions have emerged as a facilitative method, offering milder conditions and operational simplicity. This review provides a comprehensive analysis of recent advancements in the synthesis of valuable organic molecules through two distinct desilylation reactions. It systematically presents the synthesis of a variety of derivatives, such as furan, alcohol, N‐heterocyclic, and ketone, highlighting the broad substrate tolerance of these reactions. This broad functional group compatibility suggests a promising future for the synthesis of a wide range of bioactive molecules, underscoring the significant potential of desilylation in contemporary organic synthesis.

Abstract:An efficient approach for the reversal of regioselectivity in the nucleophilic introduction of difluorinated carbanion into α,β-enones has been developed via a silylium catalysis. The strong electron-withdrawing properties and bulky substituents of in situ-generated silyl triflic imide catalyst is the key for the 1,4-addition reaction to proceed smoothly. The synthetic utility is highlighted by the further use of this method for the synthesis of 2,4,6-triarylsubstituted 3-fluoropyridines in a one-pot manner.

Abstract:Here, we report a cobalt-catalyzed sequential dehydrogenative Heck silylation/hydroamination of styrenes with hydrosilane and diazo compound to access 1-amino-2-silyl compounds with excellent regioselectivity. This difunctionalization reaction could undergo smoothly using 1 mol% catalyst loading with good functional group tolerance. Not only di- and tri-substituted hydrosilanes, but also alkoxysilane are suitable, which does explore the scope of the family of 1-amino-2-silyl compounds. The ligand relay phenomenon between neutral tridentate NNN ligand and anionic NNN ligand is observed for the first time via absorption spectra analysis in this one-pot, two-step transformations. The primary mechanism has been proposed based on the control experiments.

Abstract:A highly chemo-,regio-,and stereo-selective cobalt-catalyzed dehydrogenative silylation of vinylarenes was described.The imidazoline iminopyridine cobalt complex could promote this reaction effectively and improve the chemoselectivity dramatically.This protocol used earth-abundant transition metal,readily available alkenes and hydrosilanes to construct valuable vinylsilanes.The reaction could be carried out in gramscale and the proposed mechanism was also described.

Abstract:Disilanes are organosilicon compounds that contain saturated Si-Si bonds. The structural characteristics of Si-Si single bonds resemble those of C-C single bonds, but their electronic structure is more similar to C=C double bonds, as Si-Si bonds have a higher HOMO energy level. These organosilicon compounds feature unique intramolecular σ electron delocalization, low ionization potentials, polarizable electronic structure, and σ-π interaction. It has been demonstrated that the employment of disilane units (Si-Si) is a versatile and effective approach for finely adjusting the photophysical properties of organic materials in both solution and solid state. In this review, we present and discuss the structure, properties, and relationships of novel σ-π-conjugated hybrid architectures with saturated Si-Si σ bonds. The application of disilane-bridged σ-conjugated compounds as optoelectronic, multifunctional solid-state emitters, CPL, non-linear optical, and stimuli-responsive materials are also reviewed.

Abstract:Silanes are important compounds in industrial and synthetic chemistry. Here, we develop a general approach for the synthesis of disilanes as well as linear and cyclic oligosilanes via the reductive activation of readily available chlorosilanes. The efficient and selective generation of silyl anion intermediates, which are arduous to achieve by other means, allows for the synthesis of various novel oligosilanes by heterocoupling. In particular, this work presents a modular synthesis for a variety of functionalized cyclosilanes, which may give rise to materials with distinct properties from linear silanes but remain challenging synthetic targets. In comparison to the traditional Wurtz coupling, our method features milder conditions and improved chemoselectivity, broadening the functional groups that are compatible in oligosilane preparation. Computational studies support a mechanism whereby differential activation of sterically and electronically distinct chlorosilanes are achieved in an electrochemically driven radical-polar crossover mechanism.

Abstract:Over the past few years, earth-abundant transition metal-catalyzed hydrosilylation has emerged as an ideal strategy for the synthesis of organosilanes. The success in this area of research has expanded to the advancements of alkyne dihydrosilylation reactions, offering broadened synthetic applications through the selective installation of two silyl groups. In particular, catalysts based on Fe, Co, and Ni have engendered enabling platforms for mild transformations with a range of distinct regioselectivity. This mini-review summarizes recent advances in this research field, highlighting the unique features of each system from both synthetic and mechanistic perspectives.

However, this year and last year have witnessed unprecedentedly wide applications of this type of compound in many fields well beyond pure organic synthesis, ranging from photo-click reactions, polymer-backbone editing, catalytic Fisher carbene formation, acylsilanes-hydroxylation ligation, etc. The recently-developed quick synthetic method for acylsilanes makes the chemistry even more attractive. The review covers the selected representative examples and focuses on their possible utilities in the future.
