Abstract:PURPOSE:To determine the effectiveness and safety of selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) in young patients with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) and ocular hypertension (OHT). METHODS:This was a retrospective clinical study. Fifty-six eyes from 56 young (age ≤ 40 y) patients with POAG or OHT treated with SLT were included. According to age, patients were divided into group 1 and group 2. Patients in group 1 were younger than 18 years old, and patients in group 2 were between 18 and 40 years old. Patients were evaluated before treatment and at 1 hour, 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, and 1 year after treatment. We also collected older patients (age ≥ 60 y) who received SLT during the same period for comparison at 1-year follow-up. Possible factors affecting the success of SLT, including baseline IOP, age, sex, diagnosis (POAG or OHT), and whether or not use of antiglaucoma medication before treatment, were analyzed. RESULTS:SLT treatment produced significant reduction in IOP in the young patients with POAG or OHT during the 1-year follow-up period（P < 0.05）. Mean IOP at 1 hour after SLT was lower in group 1 than in group 2 (P < 0.01), but at other follow-up time points, IOP values were not different (P > 0.05). IOP reduction and success rate were not significantly different between young and old patients at 1 year after treatment. IOP measurements over a 24-hour period were recorded before and after the SLT in 20 young adult patients. IOP values were significantly lower in the treated patients at all time points than at pretreatment (P < 0.05), and 24-hour mean IOP, peak IOP, valley IOP, and fluctuation in IOP were also lower in SLT-treated patients (P < 0.05). Baseline IOP was found as a predictor of SLT success in young patients (OR = 1.895, P=0.003), whereas age, gender, diagnosis, and whether or not use of antiglaucoma medication were not correlated with SLT success (P=0.725, P=0.750, P=0.061, and P=0.201, respectively). CONCLUSION:In this study, SLT was found as an effective and safe treatment for young patients with POAG and OHT. High baseline IOP predicted high SLT success.
[Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty in the Treatment of Primary Open-Angle Glaucoma].

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To investigate the efficacy and safety of selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) in the treatment of primary open angle glaucoma (POAG).METHODS:In a prospective non-randomized clinical study, 63 patients (85 eyes) with POAG and medically uncontrolled intraocular pressure (IOP) underwent SLT. A total of 50 +/- 5 adjacent but nonoverlapping spots were placed over inferior 180 degrees of the trabecular meshwork using a 532 nm, Q-switched, Nd: YAG laser at energy levels ranging from 0.6 - 1.8 mJ per pulse. After SLT, the eyes continued to receive the identical drug regimen. All patients were observed before and 1, 2 hours, 1, 7 and 14 days, and 1, 2, 3, 6, 9, 12, 18, and 24 months after the treatment.RESULTS:The average pre-operative IOP was (25 +/- 4) mm Hg (1 mm Hg = 0.133 kPa). The mean IOP reduction from baseline were 8.1 mm Hg (32.0%) 1 day after the SLT, 5.6 mm Hg (22.1%) 7 days after the SLT, 4.7 mm Hg (18.6%) 14 days after the SLT, 5.5 mm Hg (21.7%) 1 month after the SLT, 5.1 mm Hg (20.2%) 2 months after the SLT, 5.9 mm Hg (23.3%) 3 months after the SLT, 5.2 mm Hg (20.6%) 6 months after the SLT, 4.0 mm Hg (15.8%) 9 months after the SLT, 4.2 mm Hg (16.6%) 12 months after the SLT, 3.8 mm Hg (15.0%) 18 months after the SLT, and 3.3 mm Hg (13.0%) 24 months after the SLT (P < 0.01 or 0.05). Adverse reactions were minimal, including conjunctival injection, mild anterior chamber reaction, and transient pressure spike.CONCLUSION:SLT is a safe, and effective method of reducing IOP in POAG patients.

Abstract:Introduction: Selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) is used successfully for management of early to advanced glaucoma and ocular hypertension (OHT). Primary open-angle glaucoma (OAG), pseudoexfoliation glaucoma (PXFG), pigmentary glaucoma, normal-tension glaucoma, primary angle-closure glaucoma, steroid-induced glaucoma, silicone oil-induced glaucoma, and high intraocular pressure after canaloplasty and trabeculectomy are the main indications. Areas covered: A review of the literature was performed to highlight recent advances in terms of suggested mechanisms, indications, efficacy, prognostic factors, surgical technique, postoperative care, complications, repeatability, cost-effectiveness, and quality of life (QoL) implications of SLT in glaucoma patients. Expert commentary: SLT is a safe, cost-effective, and repeatable procedure. It increases QoL, but it has not received wide application it deserves in glaucoma management. SLT may be a first-line treatment option in mild-to-moderate glaucoma. It may also be an adjuvant treatment in OHT and in all subtypes of glaucoma. SLT use may gain popularity in all types of OAGs, closed-angle glaucomas and OHT in the future.
Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty in Treating Post-Trabeculectomy Advanced Primary Open-Angle Glaucoma.

Abstract:The aim of this study was to investigate the safety and efficacy of selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) treatment of patients with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) who could not obtain target intraocular pressure (IOP) through post-trabeculectomy medication. Sixteen patients with POAG (18 eyes), who could not obtain target IOP following medication and surgery, were treated with 360° SLT. The IOP, anterior chamber inflammation, and daytime and long-term IOP fluctuations before and 2 h, 1 day, 7 days, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months and 9 months after SLT were documented. SLT treatment success was defined as >20% IOP reduction compared with the baseline IOP at 6 and 9 months after the laser treatment date. Prior to SLT, the patients were administered different types (average, 2.8±0.8) of anti-glaucoma drugs and had an average IOP of 21.3±3.4 mmHg. Following SLT, the average IOP decreased to 16.2±3.0 mmHg and the success rate was 77.7%. The pre-SLT daytime IOP fluctuation was 4.1±1.4 mmHg, which decreased to 2.6±1.1 mmHg following the laser treatment (P<0.05). In conclusion, this study demonstrated that SLT could reduce the IOP in post-trabeculectomy patients with POAG, and reduce the daytime IOP fluctuations.

Efficacy of Low-Energy Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty on the Treatment of Primary Open Angle Glaucoma

Abstract:AIM: To investigate the efficacy of low-energy selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) on the treatment of primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) patients. METHODS: Outpatients with POAG who underwent 360-degree SLT using an initial energy of 0.3 mJ (total energy of 30-40 mJ) were reviewed retrospectively from September 2011 to January 2018. RESULTS: Eight-six eyes of 44 POAG patients underwent 360-degree SLT using initial energy of 0.3 mJ and were followed up regularly. The total energy used was 32.5±2.5 mJ (23-40 mJ, 105±6 spots). The average pretreatment intraocular pressure (IOP) was 19.8±3.9 mm Hg. At 1, 3, 6mo, 1, and 2y, the post-SLT IOPs (mm Hg) were 16.9±3.3, 16.5±3.3, 17.1±3.4, 16.6±3.5, 16.5±2.8, which were significantly lower than that before treatment (P<0.001). The patients in the SLT success group were found to be younger than those in the SLT failure group. After SLT, 59 eyes that maintained pretreatment medications were defined as the drug retention group. The pre-SLT IOP was 20.1±3.7 mm Hg. At 1, 3, 6mo, 1, and 2y, the post-SLT IOPs (mm Hg) were 17.3±3.6, 16.6±3.5, 17.2±3.6, 16.9±3.8 and 16.5±2.9, respectively. Twenty-seven eyes that required reduced drugs were defined as the drug reduction group. The pre-SLT IOP was 19.2±4.4 mm Hg. At 1, 3, 6mo, 1, and 2y, the post-SLT IOPs (mm Hg) were 16.1±2.6, 16.5±3.1, 16.8±2.9, 16.0±2.6 and 16.3±2.4, respectively. Compared with the pretreatment IOPs, the post-SLT IOPs were significantly lower in drug retention group and drug reduction group. The patients in the drug reduction group were found to be younger than those in the drug retention group. CONCLUSION: Low-energy SLT is safe and effective for POAG patients during a 2-year follow-up. Younger POAG patients may obtain better results after low-energy SLT treatment.

Abstract:Objective To study the effectiveness and safety of selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) on primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) and primary angle-closure glaucoma (PACG) with previous iridotomy.Methods A prospective non-randomized clinical trial was designed. POAG patients with IOP>21 mmHg in spite of topical antiglaucoma treatment or PACG patients with uncontrolled intraocular pressure (IOP) in spite of previous iridotomy and opened angle were enrolled. Q-switched 532-nm Nd:YAG laser was used. Patients were evaluated after laser treatment at 2 h, 1 day, 1 week, 2 weeks,1 month, 3 momth, 6 month.Results 32 eyes of 22 patients with PACG and 16 eyes of 13 patients with POAG were included in this study. The mean baseline IOP was (23.9 ± 3.0) mmHg in PACG group and (25.3 ±3.9)mmHg in POAG group. The mean IOP reduction was (5.0±2.3)mmHg (P<0.05) in PACG group and (7.0±3.3)mmHg (P<0.05) in POAG group at the six month follow-up visit (1 kPa = 7.5 mmHg). The mean laser energy used per treatment was (93.7±41.2)mJ in PACG group, and (93.3 ± 21.0)mJ in POAG group, respectively. A transient increase of IOP was the most common complication after the procedure. Patients with IOP increasing more than 8 mmHg was about 19% one hour after laser treatment.Conclusion The selective laser trabeculoplasty is not only a good choice for POAG, but also appears to be a safe and effective method to lower IOP in PACG with previous iridotomy.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE To evaluate the efficacy and safety of selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) as a replacement for medical therapy in primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG). METHODS A prospective, randomized, controlled study.SLT treatment with SOLO SLT Nd: YAG laser was provided to 45 participants with advanced POAG (67 eyes, IOP ≤ 21 mmHg, 1 mmHg = 0.133 kPa) under anti-glaucomatous medications control). A table of random numbers was created by simple randomization method. Participants were randomly divided into two groups: the standard-energy group (34 eyes), which received a 270° standard-energy SLT treatment and the sub-threshold energy group (33 eyes), which received a 360° sub-threshold energy treatment. The intraocular pressure (IOP) before and after SLT, daytime IOP curve, dosage of anti-glaucoma drugs and treatment complications were observed, which were be followed up for 6-9 months (average 6.4 months). Two-tailed t-test or paired t test was used when the continuous variables were normal distribution, such as the basic data, daily fluctuations of IOP, laser energy. Non-parametric Mann-Whitney U test or Wilcoxon rank test was used when data was not distributed normally, such as drug category. Chi-square or Fisher's exact test was used when count variables such as success rate and complications were analyzed. RESULTS The number of anti-glaucomatous drugs used in the standard-energy group and the sub-threshold energy group before SLT was (2.3 ± 0.5) and (2.1 ± 0.4), respectively; whereas, after the last treatment, it reduced to (1.3 ± 0.5) and (1.1 ± 0.3), respectively (Z = -5.477, -5.396; P < 0.05). The success rate of the standard-energy group and the sub-threshold energy group was 91.1%, and 87.9%, respectively, which was not significant different (P = 0.70). Laser treatment was found to reduce the IOP fluctuation during the daytime.IOP fluctuation decreased from (3.6 ± 1.0) mmHg to (2.3 ± 1.0) mmHg in the standard-energy group, and decreased from (3.9 ± 1.4) mmHg to (2.4 ± 0.9) mmHg in the sub-threshold energy group, which was significant different (t = 4.911, 4.679; P < 0.05). The total laser energy of the standard-energy group (47.8 ± 6.0) mJ was higher than the sub-threshold energy group (43.2 ± 5.1) mJ (t = 12.006, 3.233; P < 0.05). However, there was no significant difference in the daily IOP fluctuations, success rate, reduction of medication categories, preoperative and postoperative IOP, and adverse reactions between the two groups. CONCLUSIONS SLT is a safe and effective replacement for medical therapy in primary open-angle glaucoma treatment. SLT could reduce the applications of anti-glaucoma drugs. There was no significant difference between therapeutic effects of which eyes received 360° sub-threshold energy and 270° standard-energy.
Direct selective laser trabeculoplasty: A retrospective study

Abstract:European Journal of Ophthalmology, Ahead of Print. PurposeTo investigate the effectiveness and safety profiles of Direct Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (DSLT).Materials and MethodsRetrospective study of 15 eyes of 10 patients diagnosed with open angle glaucoma (OAG) or ocular hypertension (OHT) who underwent DSLT in June 2023 at University Hospitals of Leicester, UK. We defined success as IOP reduced ≥20% from baseline with no additional medications needed or as a decrease in the number of anti-glaucoma medications while maintaining target IOP. We also considered secondary outcomes such as final BCVA and final number of anti-glaucoma medications.ResultsAt the fourth month visit, success was reached in 11 eyes (73.3%). We registered 4 failures (26.7%). Mean IOP at baseline was 22.7 ± 4.4 mmHg and was reduced to 18.7 ± 4.2 mmHg (p = 0.008). The absolute mean reduction of IOP in the group of eyes that maintained unchanged the number of medications was 5.4 ± 2.7 mmHg, as baseline IOP was 21.4 ± 4.3 mmHg, and final IOP was 15.9 ± 2.3 mmHg, with a 25.7% reduction (p = 0.003). Mean BCVA remained unchanged (0.1 ± 0.1 logMAR, p = 1.00). No significant adverse events requiring surgical or clinical intervention were observed.ConclusionDSLT showed profiles of effectiveness and safety comparable with those of SLT in the literature and consistent with the results obtained in previous studies on DSLT itself. DSLT may represent a valid alternative to traditional SLT.

Abstract:Selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT), as one of the main methods for the treatment of open-angle glaucoma, has again aroused wide concern in recent years. Although SLT has a clear effect on reducing intraocular pressure, its role needs to be fully recognized. In order to provide guidance for the clinical SLT practice, this article summarizes and discusses the current status of SLT treatment for glaucoma, its therapeutic effects on primary open-angle glaucoma, ocular hypertension, and other types of glaucoma, surgical details, and application prospects.
Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty vs Medical Therapy for the Treatment of Open-angle Glaucoma or Ocular Hypertension: a Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials

Abstract:Précis: Selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) and medical therapy groups displayed comparable intraocular pressure (IOP) at most follow-ups. SLT was associated with significantly decreased rates of glaucoma surgeries, antiglaucomatous medications, and ocular adverse effects. Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) compared to medical therapy in the treatment of open-angle glaucoma (OAG) or ocular hypertension (OHT). Methods: A systematic search was performed in PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library and Web of Science databases. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing SLT with medical therapy were included. We computed mean differences (MDs) or standardized mean differences (STDs) for continuous endpoints and risk ratios (RRs) for binary endpoints, with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Heterogeneity was assessed with I 2 statistics. Software R, version 4.2.1, was used for statistical analyses. Subgroup analyses were performed on treatment-naive patients and on the class of drugs in the medical therapy group. Results: Fourteen RCTs comprising 1,706 patients were included, of whom 936 were submitted to SLT. Medical therapy was associated with a significantly improved IOP at 1 month and a higher proportion of patients achieving ≥20% IOP reduction. There were no significant differences between groups in IOP at 2, 3, 6, and 12 months, IOP fluctuation, rate of eyes at target IOP, visual field, and quality of life. The SLT group exhibited significantly decreased rates of glaucoma surgeries, antiglaucoma medications, and ocular adverse effects. Conclusion: SLT demonstrated comparable efficacy to medical therapy in IOP control at most follow-ups, along with favorable impacts on critical treatment-related factors. Our findings support SLT as a safe and effective treatment for OAG or OHT.

Abstract:Selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) has experienced a resurgence in interest, primarily driven by promising findings from the Laser in Glaucoma and Ocular Hypertension Trial. By offering SLT as an initial drug-free treatment option, we may be able to thwart issues such as adherence and persistence that plague our current medical management protocols. In this comprehensive narrative review, we delve into the current body of literature that explores the utility of SLT across a wide spectrum of scenarios and glaucoma subtypes. We present evidence that provides valuable insight into the efficacy and benefits of SLT, positioning it as a viable option in the management of glaucoma. Careful consideration of the associated risks and challenges is also necessary for successful adoption into clinical practice. Despite the ample evidence supporting SLT’s efficacy, some questions remain regarding its long-term effects and the potential need for retreatment. This review aims to shed light on these aspects to guide clinicians in making informed decisions and tailoring treatment plans to individual patient needs. This review also provides the readers with a bird’s eye view of the potential impact of SLT and adds clarity to the various therapeutic protocols that one can follow to ensure optimal clinical outcomes for our patients.

The primary objectives were to establish the efficacy of SLT in reducing intraocular pressure, to analyse how prior treatment with different topical medications can influence SLT outcomes and to analyse the outcomes in revisionary patients.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To examine possible differences in clinical outcomes between selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) and argon laser trabeculoplasty (ALT) in open-angle glaucoma at different times post-treatment.METHODS:Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing SLT versus ALT were searched through August 2013. The main outcome measure was IOP, and secondary outcomes included the number of glaucoma medications, the success rate, and adverse events.RESULTS:Six RCTs, involving 482 eyes treated with laser trabeculoplasty, were included in the meta-analysis. For all patients (including first and previous laser trabeculoplasy), no significant difference in IOP lowering was observed between SLT and ALT at one hour (P = 0.40), one week (P = 0.72), one month (P = 0.37), six months (P = 0.08), one year (P = 0.34), two years (P = 0.58), three years (P = 0.34), four years (P = 0.47), and five years (P = 0.50). A statistically significant difference in favor of SLT was found when comparing the IOP reduction at three months after intervention (weighted mean difference (WMD): 1.19 mmHg [0.41; 1.97]; I(2)=0%; P = 0.003). For patients who were naive to laser, there was no significant difference of reduction in IOP comparing SLT with ALT at any time point. In patients' previous LT, no statistically significant difference in IOP reduction was found at six months (WMD: 1.92 mmHg [-0.91; 4.74]; I(2) = 77.3%; P = 0.18). There was no significant difference in the reduction in the number of glaucoma medications, the success rate, or adverse event rates between the two treatments.CONCLUSIONS:SLT has equivalent efﬁcacy to ALT with a similar constellation of side effects. In the case of retreatment, SLT appears to be similar to ALT in IOP lowering at six months.

Abstract:The management of open-angle glaucoma is a long-term,even lifelong procedure.A right medical decision can gain better efficacy and economic benefit and effectively avoid medical risk.Selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) is a therapy approved by FDA of USA and has been applied in China over decade.However,the clinical efficacy assessment is still controversial in China.For re-evaluation of the indication,methodology,technical parameters,and the efficacy of SLT will give full play to its advantage of the potential sufficient control of intraocular pressure (IOP) in glaucomatous treatment.The development of history,mechanism and effectiveness in control IOP,security and operation of SLT are reviewed.The suitable population,technique parameters,multiple centers clinical trial and the cost-effectiveness of SLT for Chinese glaucomatous patients are also proposed.
Automated Direct Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty: First Prospective Clinical Trial

Abstract:Purpose: Direct selective laser trabeculoplasty (DSLT) is a rapid, noncontact automated procedure performed directly through the limbus without gonioscopy. In this first nonrandomized clinical trial we assessed its safety and ability to reduce intraocular pressure (IOP). Methods: Fifteen patients (15 eyes: 10 with open-angle glaucoma [OAG], 4 with ocular hypertension, and 1 with pseudoexfoliation glaucoma), naive or after medication washout, with an IOP ≥22 mm Hg, underwent DSLT by irradiation with 100 or 120 sequential noncontact 532-nm, Q-switched laser shots (0.8-1.4 mJ) automatically applied during 1.5 or 2.3 seconds on the limbus, guided by image analysis and eye tracking. Results were assessed at 1 and 3 hours, 1 day, 1 week, and 1, 3, and 6 months. Results: The mean ± standard deviation baseline IOP (mm Hg) in all eyes was 26.7 ± 2.3. At 1, 3, and 6 months, this value was significantly reduced to 21.7 ± 4.2 (by 18.1%), to 20.8 ± 2.5 (by 21.4%), and to 21.5 ± 4.1 (by 18.8%), respectively. In six patients treated with 1.4 mJ/shot, the mean IOP at 6 months decreased from 26.7 ± 3.2 to 19.3 ± 2.0 (27.1%, P = 0.03). There was a significant reduction in hypotensive medications (from 1.6 ± 1.0 to 0.4 ± 0.7, P = 0.03). No serious adverse events occurred. Conclusions: Automated DSLT appears to be an effective and safe noncontact, rapid modality for reducing IOP in patients with OAG. Higher energy usage led to better results. Translational relevance: Studying laser transmission through sclera enabled laser irradiation of the trabeculum without gonioscopy.
Effects of 360 Degrees Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty on Primary Open Angle Glaucoma

Abstract:Objective To evaluate the therapeutic effects of 360 degrees selective laser trabeculoplasty(SLT) on eyes of primary open angle glaucoma(POAG). Methods Sixty-two cases(62 eyes) of POAG were treated by SLT with light spot diameter of 400 μm,irradiation time of 3 ns and power of 0.4～0.8 mJ.Intraocular pressures(IOPs),visual acuity and anterior uveitis were observed after treatment. Results IOPs of 54 cases(54 eyes) decreased(10.8±4.1) mmHg by 18 months with no change in visual acuity.Eight cases(8 eyes) received drugs for IOP control due to IOP30 mmHg on day 1 after SLT.Blurring and anterior uveitis were controlled. Conclusion SLT may be a safe and effective therapy for POAG.

Abstract:Background Selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) is a safe and effective therapy to the treatment of primary open angle glaucoma (POAG),and the clinical application is approved by American FDA.However,the relevant researching outcomes from several single-center study are in dispute owing to non-uniform approach in China.A muhicenter clinical trial is need to verify the effectiveness of SLT for Chinese POAG.Objective This study was to investigate the safety and efficacy of SLT in Chinese POAG patients.Methods A prospective,multicenter and self-controlled clinical trail was designed.Sixty-two eyes of 62 POAG patients with the age of ≥ 18 years were enrolled.Frequency SLT was performed around 360° angle using Lumenis Selecta DuetTM or Lumenis Selecta Ⅱ laser instrument,with the 100 non-overlapping spots,3 ns preset time,400 μm size of laser spot and 0.6 mJ energy.The operated eyes were followed-up for 6 months.The curative effects were checked including intraocular pressure (IOP),IOP-lowing value,number and percentage of IOP-lowing 20％ and 30％.The therapyrelated complications were recorded including the number of conjunctival congestion and cloudy of the anterior chamber.Results The preoperative IOP was (25.7±2.6) mmHg in the 62 eyes.The IOP was significantly lowed 1 day,2 weeks,4 weeks,3 months and 6 months after SLT in comparison with preoperative IOP (all at P＜0.001) with the lowest value of (16.5±4.5)mmHg in postoperative day 1.IOP was stable from 4 weeks to 6 months after operation.The mean lowing-value of IOP was 5.3-9.2 mmHg from 1 day through 6 months after SLT.The percentage of eyes 20％ drop in lOP was 83.9％,and that of 30％ drop was 58.1％ in postoperative day 1.In 6 months after SLT,percentages of eyes 20％ and 30％ drop in IOP were 56.5％ and 27.4％,respectively.Conclusions SLT is a safe and effective method of lowing IOP for POAG eyes in Chinese population.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To study the effectiveness of unilateral selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) on the both eyes of patients with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG).METHODS:This was a self-controlled clinical study. Thirty-two patients of 32 eyes with OAG who used same anti-glaucoma medications for both eyes were included aat the Department of Ophthalmology Peking University third Hospital from February 2010 to April 2014. SLT was performed for the poorly controlled eye for each patient. Patients were examined before operation and 1 hour, 1 week, 1 month, 3 months and 6 months after operation. The intraocular pressure was examined after 1 hour of SLT. The rest time points were examined by visual acuity, intraocular pressure (IOP), slit lamp microscope, fundus ophthalmoscope and visual field. The paired t test (Bonferroni) was used to compare the IOP at each time point after SLT with the baseline IOP before SLT. Single factor analysis of variance was used to compare the percentage of IOP drop. Linear correlation analysis was used to analyze the amplitude of the decrease of IOP between treated eyes and untreated eyes at 6-month post-operatively and analyze the IOP between preoperative eyes and 6-month post-operative eyes. The magnitude of the decrease of IOP in patients with glaucoma medication and 6 months after surgery was analyzed. We also analyzed the types of antiglaucoma medications and IOP reductions range for 6 month after SLT.RESULTS:The preoperative mean IOP was (18.9±2.5) mmHg (1 mmHg=0.133 kPa) in the treated eye of patients with OAG. Mean IOP reduction for 1 week, 1, 3, and 6 months after SLT were (1.7±2.9) mmHg, (2.5±2.5) mmHg, (3.5±2.8) mmHg, (3.4±2.5) mmHg and the percentage of IOP reduction were (8±16) %, (13±13) % (18±14) %, (18±12) % respectively (compared with the baseline, P< 0.05) . With the success criteria of IOP reduction ≥3.0 mmHg or ≥20%, the success rate of SLT in the treated eye after 1 week, 1, 3, 6 months was 38%, 52%, 50% and 60% respectively. For the untreated fellow eyes, the preoperative mean IOP was (17.3±2.4) mmHg. Mean IOP reduction for 1 week, 1month, 3 month, and 6 month after SLT were (1.1±2.0) mmHg, (1.0±2.7) mmHg, (2.6±2.2) mmHg and (2.5±2.2) mmHg respectively (compared with the baseline, P<0.05) . There was a positive correlation between preoperative IOP and IOP reduction either in the treated or in the untreated eyes at 6-month post-SLT (R=0.63, P<0.01; R=0.60, P<0.01) . There was a positive correlation in IOP reduction between treated eyes and untreated eyes at 6-month post-operative (R=0.66, P<0.01). All patients didn't need further treatment such as another laser treatment or surgery. Anti-glaucoma medications were remained unchanged after SLT.CONCLUSIONS:In poorly anti-glaucoma medication controlled Chinese POAG eyes with mean IOP about 18.0 mmHg, unilateral STL can reduce the IOP about 18% at 6-month post-operative for the treated eyes. There was also a continuous IOP reduction effects for the fellow eyes.(Chin J Ophthalmol, 2016, 52: 410-415).

Abstract:ABSTRACT Purpose: To evaluate the effect of selective laser trabeculoplasty in the treatment of patients with glaucomatocyclitic crisis. Methods: This was a retrospective, interventional, case series study. 10 patients with uncontrolled intraocular pressure using maximally tolerated medical treatment were included in our study. 360 。 selective laser trabeculoplasty was performed during the intermission of glaucomatocyclitic crisis. Intraocular pressure reduction, best-corrected visual acuity were recorded in the recurrence of this disease. Adverse events were recorded after treatment. Results: The mean intraocular pressure(IOP) significantly decreased from 46.20± 7.16 to 14.50 ± 0.89 mmHg, with a significantly statistic difference ( p = 0.0001) after a mean recurrence time of 6 ± 13.35 months. The mean best corrected visual acuity( BCVA) significantly improved from 0.79 ± 0.08 to 0.98 ± 0.15, with significantly statistic difference ( p = 0.03). No significant local or systemic adverse effects were observed after treatment. Conclusions ：SLT was effective and safe in the management of glaucomatocyclitic crisis eyes.
