Abstract:Moduli spaces of stable maps to a smooth projective variety typically have several components. We express the virtual class of the moduli space of genus one stable maps to a smooth projective variety as a sum of virtual classes of the components. The key ingredient is a generalised functoriality result for virtual classes. We show that the natural maps from 'ghost' components of the genus one moduli space to moduli spaces of genus zero stable maps satisfy the strong push forward property. As a consequence, we give a cycle-level formula which relates standard and reduced genus one Gromov--Witten invariants of a smooth projective Calabi--Yau theefold.

Abstract:We construct a proper moduli space which is a Deligne-Mumford stack parametrising quasimaps relative to a simple normal crossings divisor in any genus using logarithmic geometry. We show this moduli space admits a virtual fundamental class of the expected dimension leading to numerical invariants which agree with the theory of Battistella-Nabijou where the latter is defined.

Abstract:We give a new proof of Ciocan-Fontanine and Kim's wall-crossing formula relating the virtual classes of the moduli spaces of $\epsilon$-stable quasimaps for different $\epsilon$ in any genus, whenever the target is a complete intersection in projective space and there is at least one marked point. Our techniques involve a twisted graph space, which we expect to generalize to yield wall-crossing formulas for general gauged linear sigma models.

Quasimaps to quivers with potentials

Abstract:This paper is concerned with a non-compact GIT quotient of a vector space, in the presence of an abelian group action and an equivariant regular function (potential) on the quotient. We define virtual counts of quasimaps from prestable curves to the critical locus of the potential, and prove a gluing formula in the formalism of cohomological field theories. The main examples studied in this paper is when the above setting arises from quivers with potentials, where the above construction gives quantum correction to the equivariant Chow homology of the critical locus. Following similar ideas as in quasimaps to Nakajima quiver varieties studied by the Okounkov school, we analyse vertex functions in several examples, including Hilbert schemes of points on $\mathbb{C}^3$, moduli spaces of perverse coherent systems on the resolved conifold, and a quiver which defines higher $\mathfrak{sl}_2$-spin chains. Bethe equations are calculated in these cases. The construction in the present paper is based on the theory of gauged linear sigma models as well as shifted symplectic geometry of Pantev, Toën, Vaquie and Vezzosi, and uses the virtual pullback formalism of symmetric obstruction theory of Park, which arises from the recent development of Donaldson-Thomas theory of Calabi-Yau 4-folds.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove a wall-crossing formula for $$\epsilon $$ -stable quasimaps to GIT quotients conjectured by Ciocan-Fontanine and Kim, for all targets in all genera, including the orbifold case. We prove that stability conditions in adjacent chambers give equivalent invariants, provided that both chambers are stable. In the case of genus-zero quasimaps with one marked point, we compute the invariants in the left-most stable chamber in terms of the small I-function. Using this we prove that the quasimap J-functions are on the Lagrangian cone of the Gromov–Witten theory. The proofs are based on virtual localization on a master space, obtained via some universal construction on the moduli of weighted curves. The fixed-point loci are in one-to-one correspondence with the terms in the wall-crossing formula.

Abstract:We introduce the notion of log R-maps, and develop a proper moduli stack of stable log R-maps in the case of a hybrid gauged linear sigma model. Two virtual cycles (canonical and reduced) are constructed for these moduli stacks. The main results are two comparison theorems relating the reduced virtual cycle to the cosection localized virtual cycle, as well as the reduced virtual cycle to the canonical virtual cycle. This sets the foundation of a new technique for computing higher genus Gromov-Witten invariants of complete intersections.

Abstract:We construct a global B-model for any quasi-homogeneous polynomial f that has properties similar to the properties of the physic's B-model on a Calabi-Yau manifold. The main ingredients in our construction are K. Saito's theory of primitive forms and Givental's higher genus reconstruction. More precisely, we consider the moduli space M-mar degrees of the so-called marginal deformations of f . For each point sigma is an element of M-mam degrees mar we introduce the notion of an opposite subspace in the twisted de Rham cohomology of the corresponding singularity f(sigma) and prove that opposite subspaces are in one-to-one correspondence with the splittings of the Hodge structure in the vanishing cohomology of f(sigma). Therefore, according to M. Saito, an opposite subspace gives rise to a semi-simple Frobenius structure on the space of miniversal deformations of f(sigma). Using Givental's higher genus reconstruction we define a total ancestor potential A(sigma) ((h) over bar, q) whose properties can be described quite elegantly in terms of the properties of the corresponding opposite subspace. For example, if the opposite subspace corresponds to the splitting of the Hodge structure given by complex conjugation, then the total ancestor potential is monodromy invariant and it satisfies the BCOV holomorphic anomaly equations. The coefficients of the total ancestor potential could be viewed as quasi-modular forms on M-Mar degrees in a certain generalized sense. As an application of our construction, we consider the case of a Fermat polynomial W that defines a Calabi-Yau hypersurface X-w in a weighted-projective space. We have constructed two opposite subspaces and proved that the corresponding total ancestor potentials can be identified with respectively the total ancestor potential of the orbifold quotient X-W/(G) over tilde (W) and the total ancestor potential of FJRW invariants corresponding to (W, G(W)). Here G(W) is the maximal group of diagonal symmetries of W and (G) over tilde (W) is a quotient of G(W) by the subgroup of those elements that act trivially on X-W. In particular, our result establishes the so-called Landau-Ginzburg/Calabi-Yau correspondence for the pair (W, G(W)).

Abstract:We use categorical method and birational geometry to study moduli spaces of quiver representations. From certain "representable" functor, we construct a birational transformation from the moduli space of representations of one quiver to another new quiver with one vertex less. The dimension vector and the stability for the new moduli are determined functorially. We introduce several relative notions of stability to study such a birational transformation. The essential case is proven to be the usual blow-ups. Moreover, we compare the induced ample divisors for the two moduli. We illustrate this theory by various examples.

Abstract:In this article, we study quasimaps to moduli spaces of sheaves on a surface S. We construct a surjective cosection of the obstruction theory of moduli spaces of -stable quasimaps. We then establish reduced wall-crossing formulas which relate the reduced Gromov–Witten theory of moduli spaces of sheaves on S and the reduced Donaldson–Thomas theory of , where C is a nodal curve. Abstract:We give an explicit approach to quotienting affine varieties by linear actions of linear algebraic groups with graded unipotent radical, using results from projective Non-Reductive GIT. Our quotients come with explicit projective completions, whose boundaries we interpret in terms of the original action. As an application we construct moduli spaces of semistable representations of quivers with multiplicities subject to certain conditions, which always hold in the toric case for a generic stability condition.

Relative étale slices and cohomology of moduli spaces

Abstract:We use techniques of Alper-Hall-Rydh to prove a local structure theorem for smooth morphisms between smooth stacks around points with linearly reductive stabilizers. This implies that the good moduli space of a smooth stack over a base has equisingular fibers. As an application, we show that any two fibres have isomorphic $\ell$-adic cohomology rings and intersection cohomology groups. If we work over the complex numbers, we show that the family is topologically locally trivial on the base, and that the intersection cohomology groups of the fibers fit into a polarizable variation of pure Hodge structures. We apply these results to derive some consequences for the moduli spaces of $G$-bundles on smooth projective curves, and for the moduli spaces of sheaves on "negatively polarized" surfaces and on del Pezzo Gorenstein surfaces for nongeneric stability parameters.

Abstract: In this paper, we prove a K-theoretic wall-crossing formula for $\epsilon$-stable quasimaps for all GIT targets in all genera. It recovers the genus-0 K-theoretic toric mirror theorem by Givental-Tonita and the genus-0 mirror theorem for quantum K-theory with level structure by Ruan-Zhang. The proofs are based on K-theoretic virtual localization on the master space introduced by the second author in arXiv:1911.02745.
Stable maps to quotient stacks with a properly stable point

Abstract:We compactify the moduli stack of maps from curves to certain quotient stacks $X = [W/G]$ with a projective good moduli space, extending previous results from quasimap theory. For doing so, we introduce a new birational transformation for algebraic stacks, the extended weighted blow-up, to prove that any algebraic stack with a properly stable point can be enlarged so that it contains an open substack which is proper and Deligne-Mumford. We give a criterion for when a morphism of algebraic stacks is an extended weighted blow-up, and we use it in order to give a modular proof of a conjecture of Hassett on weighted pointed rational curves. Finally, we present some applications of our main results when X is respectively a quotient by a torus of a proper Deligne-Mumford stack; a GIT compactification of the stack of binary forms of degree 2n; a GIT compactification of the stack of 2n-marked smooth rational curves, and a GIT compactification of the stack of smooth plane cubics.

Separation of horocycle orbits on moduli space in genus 2

Abstract:We prove a quantitative closing lemma for the horocycle flow induced by the $\mathrm{SL}(2,\mathbb{R})$-action on the moduli space of Abelian differentials with a double-order zero on surfaces of genus 2. The proof proceeds via construction of a Margulis function measuring the discretized fractal dimension of separation of a horocycle orbit of a point from itself, in a direction transverse to the $\mathrm{SL}(2,\mathbb{R})$-orbit. From this, we deduce that small transversal separation guarantees the existence of a nearby point with a pseudo-Anosov in its Veech group. This is reminiscent of the initial dimension phases in Bourgain-Gamburd for random walks on compact groups, Bourgain-Lindenstrauss-Furman-Mozes for quantitative equidistribution in tori, and quantitative equidistribution of horocycle flow for a product of $\mathrm{SL}(2,\mathbb{R})$ with itself due to Lindenstrauss-Mohammadi-Wang, and multiple other works.

Abstract:Let $\mathbf{M}^{\alpha}(d,\chi)$ be the moduli space of $\alpha$-stable pairs $(s,F)$ on the projective plane $\mathbb{P}^2$ with Hilbert polynomial $\chi(F(m))=dm+\chi$. For sufficiently large $\alpha$ (denoted by $\infty$), it is well known that the moduli space is isomorphic to the relative Hilbert scheme of points over the universal degree $d$ plane curves. For the general $(d,\chi)$, the relative Hilbert scheme does not have a bundle structure over the Hilbert scheme of points. In this paper, as the first non trivial such a case, we study the wall crossing of the $\alpha$-stable pairs space when $(d,\chi)=(5,2)$. As a direct corollary, by combining with Bridgeland wall crossing of the moduli space of stable sheaves, we compute the virtual Poincaré polynomial of $\mathbf{M}^{\infty}(5,2)$.
