Abstract:It's hard to search the needed knowledge in the Internet, because the same knowledge usually have different descriptions and name when knowledge management system takes mass knowledge in the Internet as source. Knowledge was described with ontology and different descriptions of the same knowl-edge were connected by using the similar ontology to resolve the problem. A prototype of web knowledge management system based on ontology (O-WKMS) was developed in order to reduce the difficult of ontol-ogy establishment and decrease the ontology maintenance costs. The system structure model and process model were presented. The technology {or ontology establishment of collaborative based on self-organiza-tion principle was described in detail, and ontology-based semantic search was realized with Lucene engine. Primary application shows that the enterprise's knowledge base can be further ordered and the efficiency for web knowledge discovery, management and retrieval can be improved with the knowledge ontology establishment of collaborative and self-organization mode.

Abstract:This paper develops the concept of knowledge and its exchange using Semantic Web technologies. It points out that knowledge is more than information because it embodies the meaning, that is to say semantic and context. These characteristics will influence our approach to represent and to treat the knowledge. In order to be adopted, the developed system needs to be simple and to use standards. The goal of the paper is to find standards to model knowledge and exchange it with an other person. Therefore, we propose to model knowledge using UML models to show a graphical representation and to exchange it with XML to ensure the portability at low cost. We introduce the concept of ontology for organizing knowledge and for facilitating the knowledge exchange. Proposals have been tested by implementing an application on the design knowledge of a pen.

Abstract:With the rapid development of mobile phone, the users have been increasing sharply, and the knowledge about mobile phone involves more widely subjects and its quantity is greater and larger. As a consequence, the discriminations of recognition are more obviously among the agents related to mobile phone. The organization mode of the unstructured and non-formal mobile knowledge is seriously hampering the knowledge sharing and human-computer interaction. How to make these knowledge be shared and reused is still a difficult problem what the knowledge engineers and semantic web have been facing, therefore, this paper presents the construction of the MO (Mobile Ontology) which lays a solid foundation of sharable and reusable knowledge. Firstly, the mobile ontology base is created by the Protege4.1, which make the descriptions of the concept, attribute, and instance of the mobile knowledge formally, so as to the mobile knowledge can be machine-readable and reasoning-automated. Finally, this paper shows the knowledge retrieval of mobile ontology base based on SPARQL, which is helpful for the designers, repairers and users of mobile to get the knowledge from ontology base. The experiment indicates that the proposed method improve the efficiency and reliability of the knowledge retrieval, and provide the necessary vocabulary for the semantic web of the mobile domain.

Abstract:The analysis of the practices and the tendencies of the users at the time of the search for information on Internet makes it possible to highlight several points. The search for information becomes powerful after knowledge of the typology of the various systems of research. This typology supports the adoption of a methodology of research which one can characterize by pull systems, intelligent agents, etc. In addition, the importance of the structure of the electronic document, correctly elaborated in advance, will support a higher relevance ratio to find information. In our article, the problems turn around the study of the behavior of the users in situation of search for information, as well as the constitution of a pole of documentary resources within a framework of an architectural project. It is noted that the evolution of the documentary resources is related to information technologies.

Abstract:The Web is looking for intelligence, however the traditional knowledge representation methods are inadequate to facilitate human-machine interaction since they mainly focus on the results of the interaction, i.e. the knowledge in the "object" form. Based the analysis on machine languages and natural languages, we argued that a subject-oriented knowledge formalization supported by controlled natural language is an important way to bring human intelligence to the Web. Thus human-machine interaction should shift into the "What You Think Is What You Get (WYTIWYG)" paradigm. This user friendly method is useful when a large number of personal experiences are needed for sharing and reuse.

Abstract:In this paper we present the state of advancement of the French ANR WebStand project. The objective of this project is to construct a customizable XML based warehouse platform to acquire, transform, analyze, store, query and export data from the web, in particular mailing lists, with the final intension of using this data to perform sociological studies focused on social groups of World Wide Web, with a specific emphasis on the temporal aspects of this data. We are currently using this system to analyze the standardization process of the W3C, through its social network of standard setters.

Abstract:Knowledge Graphs are an emerging form of knowledge representation. While Google coined the term Knowledge Graph first and promoted it as a means to improve their search results, they are used in many applications today. In a knowledge graph, entities in the real world and/or a business domain (e.g., people, places, or events) are represented as nodes, which are connected by edges representing the relations between those entities. While companies such as Google, Microsoft, and Facebook have their own, non-public knowledge graphs, there is also a larger body of publicly available knowledge graphs, such as DBpedia or Wikidata. In this chapter, we provide an overview and comparison of those publicly available knowledge graphs, and give insights into their contents, size, coverage, and overlap.

Abstract:This article presents a concept model, and the associated tool to help advanced learners to find adapted bibliography. The purpose is the use of an IT representation as educational research software for newcomers in research. We use an ontology based on the ACM's Computing Classification System in order to find scientific articles directly related to the new researcher's domain without any formal request. An ontology translation in French is automatically proposed and can be based on Web 2.0 enhanced by a community of users. A visualization and navigation model is proposed to make it more accessible and examples are given to show the interface of our tool: Ontology Navigator.

Abstract:The Internet of Things (IoT) is experiencing fast adoption in the society, from industrial to home applications. The number of deployed sensors and connected devices to the Internet is changing our perspective and the way we understand the world. The development and generation of IoT applications is just starting and they will modify our physical and virtual lives, from how we control remotely appliances at home to how we deal with insurance companies in order to start insurance schemes via smart cards. This massive deployment of IoT devices represents a tremendous economic impact and at the same time offers multiple opportunities. However, the potential of IoT is underexploited and day by day this gap between devices and useful applications is getting bigger. Additionally, the physical and cyber worlds are largely disconnected, requiring a lot of manual efforts to integrate, find, and use information in a meaningful way. To build a connection between the physical and the virtual, we need a knowledge framework that allow bilateral understandings, devices producing data, information systems managing the data and applications transforming information into meaningful knowledge. The first column in this series in the previous issue of this magazine titled "Internet of Things to Smart IoT Through Semantic, Cognitive, and Perceptual Computing," reviews IoT growth and potential that have energized research and technology development, centered on aspects of Artificial Intelligence to build future intelligent system. This column steps back and demonstrates the benefits of using semantic web technologies to get meaningful knowledge from sensor data to design smart systems.

Abstract:Our work aims at studying tools offered to learners and tutors involved in face-to-face or blended project-based learning activities. To understand better the needs and expectations of each actor, we are especially interested in the specific case of project management training. The results of a course observation show that the lack of monitoring and expertise transfer tools involves important dysfunctions in the course organisation and therefore dissatisfaction for tutors and students (in particular about the acquisition of knowledge and expertise). So as to solve this problem, we propose a personalised platform (according to the actor: project group, student or tutor), which gives information to monitor activities and supports the acquisition and transfer of expertise. This platform is based on Knowledge Management (KM) and Web 2.0 concepts to support the dynamic building of knowledge. KM is used to define the learning process (based on the experiential learning theory) and the way the individual knowledge building is monitored (based on metacognitive concepts). Web 2.0 is used to define the way the experience is shared. We make the hypothesis that this approach improves the acquisition of complex skills (e.g. management, communication and collaboration), which requires a behavioural evolution. We aim at making the students become able 'to learn to learn' and evolve according to contexts. We facilitate their ability to have a critical analysis of their actions according to the situations they encounter.

Abstract:The ICT revolution has given birth to a world of digital traces. A wide number of knowledgedriven domains like science are daily fueled by unlimited flows of textual contents. In order to navigate across these growing constellations of words, interdisciplinary innovations are emerging at the crossroad between social and computational sciences. In particular, complex systems approaches make it now possible to reconstruct multi-level and multi-scale structures of knowledge by means of phylomemies: inheritance networks of elements of knowledge. In this article, we will introduce an endogenous way to visualize the outcomes of the phylomemy reconstruction process by combining both synchronic and diachronic approaches. Our aim is to translate high-dimensional phylomemetic networks into graphical projections and interactive visualizations. To that end, we will use seabed and kinship views to translate the multilevel and multi-scale properties of complex branches of knowledge. We will then define a generic macro-to-micro methodology of exploration implemented within an open source software called Memiescape and validate our approach by browsing through the reconstructed histories of thousands of scientific publications and clinical trials.

Abstract:Nowadays, the Web has become one of the most widespread platforms for information change and retrieval. As it becomes easier to publish documents, as the number of users, and thus publishers, increases and as the number of documents grows, searching for information is turning into a cumbersome and time-consuming operation. Due to heterogeneity and unstructured nature of the data available on the WWW, Web mining uses various data mining techniques to discover useful knowledge from Web hyperlinks, page content and usage log. The main uses of web content mining are to gather, categorize, organize and provide the best possible information available on the Web to the user requesting the information. The mining tools are imperative to scanning the many HTML documents, images, and text. Then, the result is used by the search engines. In this paper, we first introduce the concepts related to web mining; we then present an overview of different Web Content Mining tools. We conclude by presenting a comparative table of these tools based on some pertinent criteria.

Abstract:The openness and accessibility of the Web has contributed greatly to its worldwide adoption. Uniform Resource Identifiers (URIs) are used for resource identification on the Web. A resource on the Web can be described in many ways, which makes it difficult for a user to find an adequate representation. This situation has motivated fruitful research on content negotiation to satisfy user requirements efficiently and effectively. We focus on the important topic of content negotiation, and our goal is to present the first comprehensive state of the art. Our contributions include (1) identifying the characteristics of content negotiation scenarios (styles, dimensions, and means of conveying constraints), (2) comparing and classifying existing contributions, (3) identifying use cases that the current state of content negotiation struggles to address, (4) suggesting research directions for future work. The results of the state of the art show that the problem of content negotiation is relevant and far from being solved.
