Abstract:We argue that there is a potential flaw in the standard treatment of weak decay amplitudes, including that of '/. We show that (contrary to conventional wisdom) dimension-eight operators do contribute to weak amplitudes, at order GFαs and without 1/MW2 suppression. We demonstrate the existence of these operators through the use of a simple weak hamiltonian. Their contribution appears in different places depending on which scheme is adopted in performing the OPE. If one performs a complete separation of short and long distance physics within a cutoff scheme, dimension-eight operators occur in the weak hamiltonian at order GFαs/μ2, μ being the separating scale. However, in an MSbar renormalization scheme for the OPE the dimension-eight operators do not appear explicitly in the hamiltonian at order GFαs. In this case, matrix elements must include physics above the scale μ, and it is here that dimension eight effects enter. The use of a cutoff scheme (especially quark model methods) for the calculation of the matrix elements of dimension-six operators is inconsistent with MSbar unless there is careful matching including dimension-eight operators. The contribution of dimension-eight operators can be minimized by working at large enough values of the scale μ. We find from sum rule methods that the contribution of dimension-eight operators to the dimension-six operator 7(6) is at the 100% level for μ = 1.5 GeV. This suggests that presently available values of μ are too low to justify the neglect of these effects. Finally, we display the dimension-eight operators which appear within the Standard Model at one loop.

Abstract:We study the perturbative unitarity bound given by higher dimensional bosonic operators up to dim-6 for the two-Higgs-doublet model (2HDM). They lead to new physics beyond the Standard Model. We point out that such operators can lead to a larger cross-section in the vector boson fusion channels for the scalars, compared to the tree-level 2HDM. We have obtained limits on a few bosonic operators up to dim-6 for 2HDM, by ensuring unitarity of the S-matrix.

Abstract:We discuss recent work which identifies a potential flaw in standard treatments of weak decay amplitudes, including that of epsilon'/epsilon. Abstract:The non-decoupling effects of heavy scalars and vector fields play an important role in the indirect search for Beyond the Standard Model (BSM) physics at the LHC. By exploiting some new differential equations for the 1-PI amplitudes, we show that such non-decoupling effects are absent for quite a general class of effective field theories involving dimension six two-derivative and dimension eight four-derivative operators, once the resummation in certain BSM couplings is taken into account and some particular regimes of the relevant couplings are considered.

Abstract:Inspired by the recent observation of the Ξ_cc^++ by LHCb collaboration, we explore the "decay constants" of doubly heavy baryons in the framework of QCD sum rules. With the Ξ_cc, Ξ_bc, Ξ_bb, and Ω_cc, Ω_bc, Ω_bb baryons interpolated by three-quark operators, we calculate the correlation functions using the operator product expansion and include the contribution from operators up to dimension six. On the hadron side, we consider both contributions from the lowest-lying states with J^P=1/2^+ and from negative parity baryons with J^P=1/2^-. We find that the results are stable and the contaminations from negative parity baryons are not severe. These results are ingredients for the QCD study of weak decays and other properties of doubly-heavy baryons.
On the two-loop penguin contributions to the Anomalous Dimensions of four-quark operators

Abstract:We revisit the Next-to-Leading Order (two-loop) contributions to the Anomalous Dimensions of $\Delta F = 1$ four-quark operators in QCD. We devise a test for anomalous dimensions, that we regard as of general interest, and by means of which we detect a problem in the results available in the literature. Deconstructing the steps leading to the available result, we identify the source of the problem, which is related to the operator known as $Q_{11}$. We show how to fix the problem and provide the corrected anomalous dimensions. With the insight of our findings, we propose an alternative approach to the one used in the literature which does not suffer from the identified disease, and which confirms our corrected results. We assess the numerical impact of our corrections, which happens to be in the ballpark of $5\%$ in certain entries of the evolution matrix. Our results are important for the correct resummation of Next-to-Leading Logarithms in analyses of physics beyond the Standard Model in $\Delta F = 1$ processes, such as the decays of Kaons and $B$-mesons.

We discuss this possibility and suggest a simple model, which can be used to study the effects of higher orders in the $1/m_b$ expansion and possible quark-hadron duality violations. We devise observables sensitive only to such higher-order effects to test the behaviour of the HQE. Using these observables we obtain a first estimate of possible quark-hadron duality violations using the measured $q^2$ moments.

Abstract:The quest for new sources of the simultaneous violation of $C$ and $CP$ symmetry was popular in the 1960s and has since been mostly neglected for more than half a century. In this work we revisit fundamental quark-level operators that break $C$ and $CP$ up to and including mass dimension 8 for flavor-conserving transitions, relying on the complete operator sets of the so-called Standard Model effective field theory and the low-energy effective field theory. With the formalism of chiral perturbation theory, we match these quark operators to light-meson physics, derive $C$- and $CP$-odd Lagrangians for several processes in the $\eta$, $\eta'$, and pion sectors, and furthermore, as a proof of principle, give estimates for the respective observables in explicit dependence of the underlying high-energy scale for new physics.

Abstract:A brief review of the current state of observed deviations of theoretical predictions from experimental data in semileptonic decays of $B$ and $B_c$ mesons is given. A theoretical analysis of these decays is carried out, taking into account the effects of new physics, which appear due to the introduction of new four-fermion operators, which are absent in the basis of the Standard Model (SM) operators. The necessary form factors are calculated within the framework of the covariant quark model developed in our papers.

Abstract:We give an overview of recent developments in the computation of the anomalous dimension matrix of composite operators in non-forward kinematics. The elements of this matrix determine the scale dependence of non-perturbative parton distributions, such as GPDs, and hence constitute important input for phenomenological studies of exclusive processes like deeply-virtual Compton scattering. Particular emphasis will be put on a recently developed method that exploits consistency relations for the anomalous dimension matrix which follow from the renormalization structure of the operators.

Abstract:The excellent experimental prospects to measure the invisible mass spectrum of the $K^+\to\pi^+\nu\bar\nu$ decay opens a new path to test generalised quark--neutrino interactions with flavour changing $s\to d$ transitions and as such to novel probes of Physics beyond the Standard Model. Such signals can be a consequence of new lepton-number violating or lepton-number conserving interactions, with their interpretations depending on the Majorana versus Dirac nature of the neutrinos. Furthermore, the possible existence of new massive sterile neutrinos can be tested via their distinctive imprints in the invariant mass spectrum. Within the model-independent framework of the weak effective theory at dimension-six, we study the New Physics effects of Majorana and Dirac neutrinos on the differential distribution of $K^+\rightarrow \pi^+\nu\bar\nu$ allowing for lepton-number violating interactions and potential new sterile neutrinos. We determine the current and expected future sensitivity on the corresponding $\Delta S=1$ neutral-current Wilson coefficients using the distribution measured by the NA62 collaboration and accounting for expected improvements based on the HIKE experiment. We present single-operator fits and also determine correlations among different type of operators. Even though we focus on $s\to d\nu\nu$ transitions, the operator bases for Majorana and Dirac and the classification of lepton-number-violating/conserving interactions is applicable also for the study of $b\to s/d\nu\nu$ and $c\to u\nu\nu$ transitions relevant in current phenomenology.

Abstract:We investigate for the first time a certain class of non-factorisable contributions of the four-quark operators 3 − 6 in the weak effective Hamiltonian to the Λ b → Λ l + l − decay amplitude. We focus on the case where a virtual photon is radiated from one of the light constituents of the Λ b baryon, in the kinematic situation of large hadronic recoil with an energetic Λ baryon in the final state. The effect on the suitably defined "non-local form factors" is calculated using the light-cone sum rule approach for a correlator with an interpolating current for the light Λ baryon. We find that this approach requires the introduction of new soft functions that generalise the standard light-cone distribution amplitudes (LCDAs) for the heavy Λ b baryon. We give a heuristic discussion of their properties and a model that relates them to the standard LCDAs. Within this framework, we provide numerical results for the size of the non-local form factors considered.

Abstract:Dimension eight operators of the Weinberg type have been shown to give important contributions to CP violating phenomena, such as the electric dipole moment of the neutron. In this note we show how operators related to these (and expected to occur on equal footing) can give rise to time-reversal violating phenomena such as atomic electric dipole moments. We also estimate the induced parity violating phenomena such as small ``wrong'' parity admixtures in atomic states and find that they are negligible. Abstract:We study supersymmetric contributions to correlation coefficients that characterize the spectral shape and angular distribution for polarized mu- and beta-decays. In the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM), one-loop box graphs containing superpartners can give rise to non-(V-A)circle times(V-A) four-fermion operators in the presence of left-right or flavor mixing between sfermions. We analyze the present phenomenological constraints on such mixing and determine the range of allowed contributions to the weak decay correlation coefficients. We discuss the prospective implications for future mu- and beta-decay experiments, and argue that they may provide unique probes of left-right mixing in the first generation scalar fermion sector.

Abstract:I give a brief outline of the theoretical framework for the modern treatment of the strong interaction effects in heavy quark decays, based on first principles of QCD. This model-independent approach is required to meet the precision of current and future experiments. Applications to a few problems of particular practical interest are reviewed, including the precise determination of V_{cb} and V_{ub}. I emphasize the peculiarities of simultaneously accounting for the perturbative and power-suppressed effects necessary for accurate predictions.

Off-shell vertices in heavy particle effective theories and $B\rightarrow Dπ\ell ν$

Abstract:We study the modifications to decay amplitudes in heavy to heavy semileptonic decays with multiple hadrons in the final state due to intermediate heavy hadrons being off-shell or having a finite width. Combining Heavy Hadron Chiral Perturbation Theory (HH$\chi$PT) with a BCFW on-shell factorization formula, we show that these effects induce $O(1/M)$ corrections to the standard results computed in the narrow-width approximation and therefore are important in extracting form factors from data. A combination of perturbative unitarity, analyticity, and reparameterization invariance fully determine these corrections in terms of known Isgur-Wise functions without the need to introduce new form factors. In doing so, we develop a novel technique to compute the boundary term at complex infinity in the BCFW formula for theories with derivatively coupled scalars. While we have used the $\bar B\rightarrow D\pi \ell\nu$ decay as an example, these techniques can generally be applied to effective field theories with (multiple) distinct reference vectors.

Abstract:We discuss the status and the problems related to the application of the off-shell non-perturbative renormalization method in a fixed gauge to operators relevant to weak decays. In particular, we critically reappraise the method recently proposed for the $\Delta I=1/2$ rule. We also present a general analysis of the renormalization for the $\Delta I=3/2$ operators, and apply it to the $\Delta S=2$ operator.

Abstract:Proton decay in six dimensions orbifolded on square $T^2/Z_2$ is highly suppressed at tree-level. This is because baryon number violating (BNV) operators containing only the zero mode of bulk fermions must satisfy the selection rule $\frac{3}{2} \Delta B \pm \frac{1}{2}\Delta L = 0 \ mod \ 4$. In this article, we show that the above relation does not prohibit mass dimension-6 BNV operators containing Kaluza Klein (KK) partners of the bulk fermions. Together with `spinless' adjoint scalar partner of hypercharge gauge boson (the Dark Matter candidate), these novel operators generate Dark Matter assisted proton decay at mass dimension-8. Here, with explicit examples of scalar and vector baryon number violating interactions, we discuss the importance of such $\Delta B=1 =\Delta L$ and $\Delta B=2=\Delta L$ operators and derive the limit on New Physics.
