Abstract:We analyse relevant signals expected at the LHC, assuming that the gluino is the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP) in the framework of the $\mu\nu$SSM. In this $R$-parity violating model, the presence of couplings involving right-handed neutrinos solves simultaneously the $\mu$ problem and the accommodations of neutrino masses and mixing angles. We study gluino pair production in quark-antiquark and gluon-gluon collisions. The main decay channels for the gluino LSP are the three-body decays to two quarks and a lepton or a neutrino. In both cases, the leading channels occur for the third family of quarks. We compare the predictions of this scenario with LHC searches for prompt and long-lived <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://particles.To" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a> analyse the parameter space we sample the $\mu\nu$SSM for a gluino LSP, paying special attention to reproduce the current experimental data on neutrino and Higgs physics, as well as flavour observables. Our results imply a lower limit on the mass of the gluino LSP of about 2600 GeV, and an upper limit for the decay length of about 6 cm.

Abstract:Various supersymmetric (SUSY) scenarios predict a sub-GeV neutralino decaying into a single photon and an invisible state. This signature has recently been studied in a number of intensity frontier experiments, finding constraints complementary to the usual collider searches. In this work, we study the prospects of searches for long-lived neutralinos coupled to an ALPino or gravitino, where each can act as the lightest SUSY particle (LSP). In addition to the neutralino decays into a LSP and a photon, we also consider three-body decays into a pair of charged leptons, and signatures related to scattering with electrons and secondary neutralino production. For both models, we find that the searches at FASER2 will allow to overcome the current bounds, while SHIP will extend these limits by more than an order of magnitude in the value of the coupling constant.

Abstract:The scenario of light gluinos and light sbottoms was advocated to explain the discrepancy between the measured and theoretical production of b quarks at the Tevatron. This scenario will have model-independent predictions for Z-->qqgg at the Z0 pole, and e(+)e(-)-->qqgg at LEPII. We show that the data for Z-->qqg*-->qqbb; at LEPI cannot constrain the scenario, because the ratio Gamma(Z-->qqgg)/Gamma(Z-->qqg*-->qqbb)=0.15-0.04 for m(g)=12-16 GeV is smaller than the uncertainty of the data. However, at LEPII the ratio sigma(e(+)e(-)-->qqgg)/sigma(e(+)e(-)-->qqg*-->qqbb) approximately 0.4-0.2 for m(g)=12-16 GeV, which may give an observable excess in qqbb events; especially, the 4b events.

Abstract:The possibility that the gluino is the next to the lightest supersymmetric particle (NLSP) is discussed and it is shown that this situation arises in nonuniversal supergravity models within a significant part of the parameter space compatible with all known experimental bounds. It is then shown that the gluino NLSP (GNLSP) models lead to a compressed sfermion spectrum with the sleptons often heavier than the squarks at least for the first two generations. The relic density here is governed by gluino coannihilation which is responsible for a relatively small mass splitting between the gluino and the neutralino masses. Thus the GNLSP class of models is very predictive first because the supersymmetry (SUSY) production cross sections at the CERN LHC are dominated by gluino production and second because the gluino production itself proceeds dominantly through a single channel which allows for a direct determination of the gluino mass and an indirect determination of the neutralino mass due to a linear relation between these two masses which is highly constrained by coannihilation. A detailed analysis of these models shows that the jet production and tagged b jets from the gluino production can be discriminated from the standard model background with appropriate cuts. It is found that the GNLSP models can be tested with just 10 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity and may therefore be checked with low luminosity runs in the first data at the LHC. Thus if a GNLSP model is realized, the LHC will turn into a gluino factory through a profuse production of gluinos with typically only a small fraction less than or similar to 5% of total SUSY events arising from other production modes over the allowed GNLSP model parameter space.
Light Right-handed Smuons at the LHC: Natural Dark Matter and $g_μ-2$ in an Unexplored Realm of the pMSSM

Abstract:We introduce an in-depth study of an unprobed pMSSM region offering a natural solution to dark matter. Since the 1980s this region has been referred to as the "bulk", consisting of sub 200 GeV neutralinos and right-handed smuons. The bulk satisfies recent muon $g_{\mu}-2$ measurements and sustains consistency with $all$ presently operating SUSY experiments and LHC constraints. Initial ingress into the bulk will arrive soon via the LUX-ZEPLIN 1000-day experiment. Observation of these light right-handed smuon events could optimistically occur at the ongoing LHC Run 3 or forthcoming High-Luminosity LHC. If these light smuon events are ultimately deemed inaccessible at the LHC, then the future FCC-ee and CEPC circular colliders should handily observe the events.

Abstract:In view of the latest LEP data we consider the effects of charginos and neutralinos on the two-photon and bb̄ signatures of the Higgs at the LHC. Assuming the usual GUT inspired relation between M1 and M2 we show that there are only small regions with moderate tanβ and large stop mixings that may be dangerous. Pathological models not excluded by LEP which have degeneracy between the sneutrino and the chargino are however a real danger because of large branching fraction of the Higgs into invisibles. We have also studied models where the gaugino masses are not unified at the GUT scale. We take M1=M2/10 as an example where large reductions in the signal at the LHC can occur. However we argue that such models with a very light neutralino LSP may give a too large relic density unless the sleptons are light. We then combine this cosmological constraint with neutralino production with light sfermions to further reduce the parameter space that precludes observability of the Higgs at the LHC. We still find regions of parameter space where the drops in the usual Higgs signals at the LHC can be drastic. Nonetheless, in such scenarios where Higgs may escape detection we show that one should be able to produce all charginos and neutralinos. Although the heavier of these could cascade into the Higgs, the rates are not too high and the Higgs may not always be recovered this way.

Abstract:We investigate the discovery potential of a Stealth SUSY scenario involving squark decays by reconstructing the lightest neutralino decay products using a large-radius jet containing a high transverse momentum photon. Requirements on the event topology, such as photon and large-radius jet multiplicity result in less background than signal. We also estimated the sensitivity of our analysis and found that it has a better exclusion potential compared to the strongest existing search for the specific benchmark points considered here.

Abstract:Motivated by dark-matter considerations in supersymmetric theories, we investigate in a fairly model-independent way the detection at the LHC of nearly degenerate gauginos with mass differences between a few GeV and about 30 GeV. Because of the degeneracy of gaugino states, the conventional leptonic signals are likely lost. We first consider the leading signal from gluino production and decay. We find that it is quite conceivable to reach a large statistical significance for the multijet plus missing energy signal with an integrated luminosity about 50 pb(-1) (50 fb(-1)) for a gluino mass of 500 GeV (1 TeV). If gluinos are not too heavy, less than about 1.5 TeV, this channel can typically probe gaugino masses up to about 100 GeV below the gluino mass. We then study the Drell-Yan type of gaugino pair production in association with a hard QCD jet, for gaugino masses in the range of 100-150 GeV. The signal observation may be statistically feasible with about 10 fb(-1), but systematically challenging due to the lack of distinctive features for the signal distributions. By exploiting gaugino pair production through weak boson fusion, signals of large missing energy plus two forward-backward jets may be observable at a 4-6 sigma level above the large SM backgrounds with an integrated luminosity of 100-300 fb(-1). Finally, we point out that searching for additional isolated soft muons in the range p(T) similar to 3-10 GeV in the data samples discussed above may help to enrich the signal and to control the systematics. Significant efforts are made to explore the connection between the signal kinematics and the relevant masses for the gluino and gauginos, to probe the mass scales of the superpartners, in particular, the lightest supersymmetric particle dark matter.

Abstract:We investigate the collider phenomenology of gluino-bino co-annihilation scenario both at the Tevatron and 7 TeV LHC. This scenario can be realized, for example, in a class of realistic supersymmetric models with non-universal gaugino masses and t − b−τ Yukawa unification. The NLSP gluino and LSP bino should be nearly degenerate in mass, so that the typical gluino search channels involving leptons or hard jets are not available. Consequently, the gluino can be lighter than various bounds on its mass from direct searches. We propose a new search for NLSP gluino involving multi-b final states, arising from the three-body decay $ \tilde{g} \to b\overline b \tilde{\chi }_1^0 $. We identify two realistic models with gluino mass of around 300 GeV for which the three-body decay is dominant, and show that a 4.5 σ observation sensitivity can be achieved at the Tevatron with an integrated luminosity of 10 fb−1. For the 7TeV LHC with 50 pb−1 of integrated luminosity, the number of signal events for the two models is $ \mathcal{O}\left( {10} \right) $, to be compared with negligible SM background events.
Signals of a superlight gravitino at the LHC

Abstract:Very light gravitinos could be produced at a sizeable rate at colliders and have been searched for in the mono-photon or mono-jet plus missing momentum signature. Strategies for enhancing the signal over background and interpretations of the experimental results are typically obtained within an effective field theory approach where all SUSY particles except the gravitino are heavy and are not produced resonantly. We extend this approach to a simplified model that includes squarks and gluinos in the TeV range. In such a case, the jet(s)-plus-missing-momentum signature can be generated through three different concurring mechanisms: gravitino-pair production with an extra jet, associated gravitino production with a squark or a gluino, or squark/gluino pair production with their subsequent decay to a gravitino and a jet. By using a matrix-element parton-shower merging procedure, we take into account all the relevant production processes consistently, explore the SUSY parameter space with the LHC Run-I data set, and give prospects for the Run II. We also consider the reach of other signatures involving electroweak particles, e.g., the mono-photon, -Z, or -W plus missing momentum. The current mono-jet and mono-photon LHC analyses are interpreted to set a lower bound on the gravitino mass. We show how the limit of $m_{3/2}>1.7\times10^{-13}$ GeV obtained in the effective field theory hypothesis is modified when the squarks and/or the gluino are in the TeV range.

Abstract:We investigate the collider signatures of heavy, long-lived, neutral particles that decay to charged particles plus missing energy. Specifically, we focus on the case of a neutralino NLSP decaying to Z and gravitino within the context of General Gauge Mediation. We show that a combination of searches using the inner detector and the muon spectrometer yields a wide range of potential early LHC discoveries for NLSP lifetimes ranging from 10^(-1)-10^5 mm. We further show that events from Z(l+l-) can be used for detailed kinematic reconstruction, leading to accurate determinations of the neutralino mass and lifetime. In particular, we examine the prospects for detailed event study at ATLAS using the ECAL (making use of its timing and pointing capabilities) together with the TRT, or using the muon spectrometer alone. Finally, we also demonstrate that there is a region in parameter space where the Tevatron could potentially discover new physics in the delayed Z(l+l-)+MET channel. While our discussion centers on gauge mediation, many of the results apply to any scenario with a long-lived neutral particle decaying to charged particles.

Searching for light long-lived particles at SHiNESS

Abstract:Recently Soleti et al. [JHEP03(2024)148] proposed a new experiment called SHiNESS at the upcoming European Spallation Source (ESS) facility, making use of the 2-GeV proton beam there impinging on a fixed target, in order to search for hidden sterile neutrinos that could lie in different mass ranges and arise with distinct signatures. Such signatures include excesses in electron-positron pairs that may originate from displaced decays of long-lived particles (LLPs). At the ESS, the dominant sources of such LLPs are decays at rest of $\pi^+$ mesons and $\mu^+$ leptons. We choose to investigate theoretical scenarios of long-lived light binos in the R-parity-violating supersymmetry and long-lived weak-violating electrophilic axionlike particles, as these LLPs can be produced from decays of $\pi^+$ and $\mu^+$. Since the $\pi^+$'s and $\mu^+$'s decay at rest at the ESS, we compute the spectra of the therefrom produced LLPs, and thus estimate the expected sensitivity reach of SHiNESS to the LLPs in these two scenarios. Our calculation shows that in most of the relevant benchmark scenarios, SHiNESS can probe large parameter regions of these models beyond the existing bounds, in just a couple of years of data-collection time.

Prospects of Gluino searches in multi-lepton channels in the light of ongoing LHC RUN-III

Abstract:This study investigates the prospect of discovering strongly interacting gluinos in different multi-lepton channels with lepton multiplicity greater than or equal to 2 at LHC RUN-III, considering several pMSSM scenarios. The effectiveness of the Multivariate Analysis (MVA) method with the Boosted Decision Tree (BDT) algorithm is explored in order to obtain a better significance for different models. Promising results are obtained for the 3-lepton channels, indicating that the use of MVA methods can improve the sensitivity of the search for gluinos at LHC RUN-III. The study probes the multi-lepton signatures arising from gluinos via intermediate eweakinos and sleptons at an early stage of the LHC RUN-III. The heavier eweakinos can give rise to three or four lepton signals in which the squark hierarchy between L and R types plays a crucial role. The study considers two sets of benchmark points that satisfy all the collider constraints obtained from the LHC RUN-II data. Moreover, these sets of benchmark points are mostly consistent with WMAP/PLANCK data and the muon (g-2) constraint. The corresponding results from the MVA technique demonstrate that even for an integrated luminosity of 270 $fb^{-1}$, the 5 $\sigma$ discovery prospect of $3l+ jets + \cancel{E_T}$ for $M_{\widetilde{g}}=1.8$ TeV in the wino type model is promising. The study also presents the other various models that may show up at the early stage of LHC RUN-III. The wino type models in the scenario where left squarks are light and right squarks are heavy, exhibit the best prospect of discovering gluinos in the multi-lepton channels in the LHC RUN-III experiment. This paper's findings provide crucial insights into the potential discovery of gluinos in multi-lepton channels.

New Long Lived Particles Searches in Heavy Ion Collisions at the LHC

Abstract:We show that heavy ion collisions at the LHC provide a promising environment to search for signatures with displaced vertices in well-motivated New Physics scenarios. Compared to proton collisions, they offer several advantages, i) the number of parton level interactions per collision is larger, ii) there is no pile-up, iii) the lower instantaneous luminosity compared to proton collisions allows to operate the LHC experiments with very loose triggers, and iv) there are new production mechanisms that are absent in proton collisions. In the present work we focus on the third point and show that the modification of the triggers alone can increase the number of observable events by orders of magnitude if the long lived particles are predominantly produced with low transverse momentum. Our results show that collisions of ions lighter than lead are well-motivated from the viewpoint of searches for New Physics. We illustrate this for the example of heavy neutrinos in the Neutrino Minimal Standard Model.

Abstract:Neutral long-lived particles (LLPs) are highly motivated by many BSM scenarios, such as theories of supersymmetry, baryogenesis, and neutral naturalness, and present both tremendous discovery opportunities and experimental challenges for the LHC. A major bottleneck for current LLP searches is the prediction of SM backgrounds, which are often impossible to simulate accurately. In this paper, we propose a general strategy for obtaining differential, data-driven background estimates in LLP searches, thereby notably extending the range of LLP masses and lifetimes that can be discovered at the LHC. We focus on LLPs decaying in the ATLAS Muon System, where triggers providing both signal and control samples are available at the LHC Run-2. While many existing searches require two displaced decays, a detailed knowledge of backgrounds will allow for very inclusive searches that require just one detected LLP decay. As we demonstrate for the $h \to X X$ signal model of LLP pair production in exotic Higgs decays, this results in dramatic sensitivity improvements for proper lifetimes $\gtrsim 10$ m. In theories of Neutral Naturalness, this extends reach to glueball masses far below the $\bar b b$ threshold. Our strategy readily generalizes to other signal models, and other detector subsystems. This framework therefore lends itself to the development of a systematic, model-independent LLP search program, in analogy to the highly successful simplified-model framework of prompt searches.

Probing long-lived doubly charged scalar in the Georgi-Machacek model at the LHC and in far detectors

Abstract:Searching for long-lived particles (LLPs) beyond the Standard Model (SM) is a promising direction in collider experiments. The Georgi-Machacek (GM) model extends the scalar sector in the SM by introducing various new scalar bosons. In this study, we focus on the parameter space that allows the light doubly charged scalar to become long-lived. This light doubly charged scalar is fermophobic and predominantly decays into a pair of on-shell or off-shell same-sign $W$ bosons. We investigate three types of signal signatures at the LHC: displaced vertices in the inner tracking detector, displaced showers in the muon system, and heavy stable charged particles. Additionally, we analyze the potential for detecting such doubly charged scalars in far detectors, including ANUBIS, MATHUSLA, FACET, and FASER. By combining the LLP searches at the LHC and in far detectors, we project that the limits on the mixing angle, $\theta_H$, (between the doublet and triplets) can cover most of the parameter space with $\sin\theta_H\lesssim 10^{-3}$ for the mass range of long-lived doubly charged scalars between $50$ GeV to $180$ GeV, assuming luminosities of 300 fb$^{-1}$ and 3000 fb$^{-1}$.

Novel Higgsino Dark Matter Signatures at the LHC

Abstract:In the LHC searches for gluinos it is usually assumed that they decay predominantly into the lightest neutralino plus jets. In this work we perform a proof-of-concept collider analysis of a novel supersymmetric signal in which gluinos decay mostly into jets and the bino-like neutralino ($\tilde\chi_3^0$), which in turn decays into the lightest Higgsino-like neutralino ($\tilde\chi_1^0$), considered the dark matter candidate, together with the SM-like Higgs boson ($h$). This new physics signal then consists of an LHC final state made up by four light jets, four $b$-jets, and a large amount of missing transverse energy. We identify $t \bar t$, $V$+jets ($V$= $W$, $Z$), and $t \bar t + X$ ($X$ = $W$, $Z$, $\gamma^*$, $h$) productions as the most problematic backgrounds, and develop a search strategy for the high luminosity phase of the LHC, reaching signal significances at the evidence level for a luminosity of 1000 fb$^{-1}$. The prospects for a luminosity of 3000 fb$^{-1}$ are even more promising, with discovery-level significances.

Abstract:SuperB experiment could represent an ideal environment to test a new U(1) symmetry related to light dark forces candidates. A promising discovery channel is represented by the resonant production of a boson U, followed by its decay into lepton pairs. Beyond approximations adopted in the literature, an exact tree level calculation of the radiative processes e+e− → γ,U → μ+μ− γ, e+e− γ and corresponding QED backgrounds is performed, including also the most important higher-order corrections. The calculation is implemented in a release of the generator BabaYaga@NLO useful for data analysis and interpretation. The distinct features of U boson production are shown and the statistical significance is analysed.
Long-lived heavy neutral leptons at lepton colliders as a probe of left-right-symmetric models

Abstract:Left-right symmetric models (LRSM) were proposed to reconcile the apparent parity violation in weak interactions with our intrinsic notion of fundamental parity symmetry. It was quickly realized that LRSM offers a viable framework for explaining neutrino masses by incorporating right-handed neutrinos, N , into its spectrum. In this study, we investigate for the first time the potential of future lepton colliders (including the FCC-ee, CEPC, ILC, CLIC, and a muon collider) to detect signals stemming from N 's, focusing primarily on displaced vertex signals, and on prompt signals to a lesser degree. Search for Displaced Supersymmetry in events with an electron and a muon with large impact parameters

Abstract:A search for new long-lived particles decaying to leptons is presented using proton-proton collisions produced by the LHC at sqrt(s) = 8 TeV. Data used for the analysis were collected by the CMS detector and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 inverse femtobarns. Events are selected with an electron and a muon that have transverse impact parameter values between 0.02 cm and 2 cm. The search has been designed to be sensitive to a wide range of models with nonprompt e-mu final states. Limits are set on the "displaced supersymmetry" model, with pair production of top squarks decaying into an e-mu final state via R-parity-violating interactions. The results are the most restrictive to date on this model, with the most stringent limit being obtained for a top squark lifetime corresponding to c tau = 2 cm, excluding masses below 790 GeV at 95% confidence level.
