Abstract:We discuss calculation of nuclear corrections to the structure functions for the deep-inelastic scattering of muon and (anti)neutrino. Our approach includes a QCD description of the nucleon structure functions as well as the treatment of Fermi motion and nuclear binding, off-shell correction to bound nucleon structure functions, nuclear pion excess and nuclear shadowing. We emphasize the dependence of nuclear effects on the type and C-parity of (anti)neutrino structure functions. We also examine the interplay between different nuclear effects in the Adler and the Gross-Llewellyn-Smith sum rules for nuclei.

Abstract:We have studied nuclear medium effects in the weak structure functions $F^A_2(x)$ and $F^A_3(x)$ and in the extraction of weak mixing angle using Paschos Wolfenstein(PW) relation. We have modified the PW relation for nonisoscalar nuclear target. We have incorporated the medium effects like Pauli blocking, Fermi motion, nuclear binding energy, nucleon correlations, pion $\&$ rho cloud contributions, and shadowing and antishadowing effects.

Abstract:In this talk, we report results of our recent studies to delineate effects of the tensor force on the density dependence of nuclear symmetry energy within phenomenological models. The tensor force active in the isosinglet neutron roton interaction channel leads to appreciable depletion/population of nucleons below/above the Fermi surface in the single-nucleon momentum distribution in cold symmetric nuclear matter (SNM). We found that as a consequence of the high momentum tail in SNM the kinetic part of the symmetry energy Ekinsym(ρ) is significantly below the well-known Fermi gas model prediction of approximately 125(ρ/ρ0)2/3. With about 15% nucleons in the high momentum tail as indicated by the recent experiments at J-Lab by the CLAS Collaboration, the Ekinsym(ρ) is negligibly small. It even becomes negative when more nucleons are in the high momentum tail in SNM. These features have recently been confirmed by three independent studies based on the state-of-the-art microscopic nuclear many-body theories. In addition, we also estimate the second-order tensor force contribution to the potential part of the symmetry energy. Implications of these findings in extracting information about nuclear symmetry energy from nuclear reactions are discussed briefly.

Abstract:Quantum Calogero-Sutherland model of $A_n$ type is completely integrable. Using this fact, we give an elementary construction of lowering an raising operators for the trigonometric case. This is similar, but more complicated (due to the fact that the energy spectrum is not equidistant) than the construction for the rational case.

Abstract:(Pseudo)spin symmetries play vital roles in nuclear physics and have been studied extensively in spherical nuclei. In this work, possible spin and pseudospin symmetries in deformed nuclei are examined by solving a coupled-channel Dirac equation with quadruple deformation. The Green's function method is taken which provides a novel way to exactly determine the single-particle levels and properly describe the spacial density distributions. Taking axially-deformed nucleus $^{154}$Dy as an example, the spin doublets with a combination of Nilsson levels $\Lambda\pm 1/2[\mathcal{N},n_z, \Lambda]$ and pseudospin doublets with a combination of $\widetilde{\Lambda}\pm 1/2[\widetilde{\mathcal{N},n_z, \Lambda}]$ are determined. Different behaviors are displayed for the spin and pseudospin doublets. For the spin partners, those with smaller angular momentum $l$ and the third component $\Lambda$ owns better symmetry such as the $1p$ doublet while good pseudospin symmetry appears in partners locating close to the continuum threshold. By examining the single-particle Nilsson levels $\Omega[\mathcal{N},n_z,\Lambda]$ and the energy splittings between the partners, the conservation and breaking of SS and PSS are examined at different deformations. In the prolate side, the Nilsson levels for the spin and pseudospin doublets are almost parallel and the energy splittings are stable against varying deformations. By examining the density distributions, great similarities have been observed in the upper components for the spin doublets while great similarities in the lower component for the pseudospin doublets. Besides, these similarities maintain well at different deformations.

Abstract:We address the question of how to improve the agreement between theoretical nuclear single-particle energies (SPEs) and experiment. Empirically, in doubly magic nuclei, the SPEs can be deduced from spectroscopic properties of odd nuclei that have one more, or one less neutron or proton. Theoretically, bare SPEs, before being confronted with experiment, must be corrected for the effects of the particle-vibration-coupling (PVC). In the present work, we determine the PVC corrections in a fully self-consistent way. Then, we adjust the SPEs, with PVC corrections included, to empirical data. In this way, the agreement with experiment, on average, improves; nevertheless, large discrepancies still remain. We conclude that the main source of disagreement is still in the underlying mean fields, and not in including or neglecting the PVC corrections.

Nuclear Deformation Effects in the Spectra of Highly Charged Ions

Abstract:Nuclear deformation effects are theoretically investigated in terms of deformation corrections of the electronic binding and transition energies, $g$ factor, and hyperfine splitting constant. By solving the Dirac equation twice, with the nuclear potential calculated from Fermi and deformed Fermi nuclear density distributions, we separate the deformation effect in binding energies and wavefunctions. The parameters for both models are determined from experimental data. The considered corrections are of interest for spectral analysis and are numerically calculated for the widest possible range of nuclei, consisting over 1100 different samples. The subtleties between different sources of measured data and the corresponding results are discussed. In addition, the importance of deformation effects for the search of new physics with singly-charged ions is examined.

Abstract:Precision spectroscopy of hyperfine splitting (HFS) is a crucial tool for investigating the structure of nuclei and testing quantum electrodynamics. However, accurate theoretical predictions are hindered by two-photon exchange (TPE) effects. We propose a novel formalism that accounts for nuclear excitations and recoil in TPE, providing a model-independent description of TPE effects on HFS in light ordinary and muonic atoms. Combining our formalism with pionless effective field theory at next-to-next-to-leading order, the predicted TPE effects on HFS are 41.7(4.4) kHz and 0.117(13) meV for the 1S state in deuterium and the 2S state in muonic deuterium. These results align within 1σ and 1.3σ from recent measurements and highlight the importance of nuclear structure effects on HFS and indicate the value of more precise measurements in future experiments. https://doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevLett.133.042502 © 2024 American Physical Society

The influence of the boundary conditions on characteristics of nuclear fission

Abstract:In this paper, using a quasi-classical statistical approach based on the Langevin equation, we simulate the fission dynamics of selected even-even $\rm U$, $\rm Pu$, $\rm Cm$, $\rm Cf$ and $\rm Fm$ actinide nuclei. As a preparatory part of the work, before solving the Langevin equations, the determination of transport parameters such as inertia and friction tensors within the hydrodynamic model is performed. Potential energy surfaces are calculated within a macroscopic-microscopic approach in a three-dimensional space of deformation parameters defined within the Fourier decomposition of the surface radius function in cylindrical coordinates. Using the Lublin-Strasbourg drop model, Strutinsky shell correction and BCS-like pairing energy model with the projection onto good particle number, we calculate the nuclear total potential energy surfaces (PES). The restoration of the particle number in the superfluid approach is realized within the Generator Coordinate Method (GCM) with the so called Gaussian Overlap Approximation (GOA). The final study is concerned with the effect of the starting point of the stochastic Langevin trajectory on its time evolution and, more importantly, the conditions for judging whether such a trajectory for a given time moment describes an already passed fission nucleus or not. Collecting a large number of such stochastic trajectories allows us to assess the resulting fragment mass distributions, which appear to be in good agreement with their experimental counterparts for light and intermediate actinides. More serious discrepancies are observed for single isotopes of californium and fermium.

Dynamics of nuclear single-particle structure in covariant theory of particle-vibration coupling: from light to superheavy nuclei

Abstract:The impact of particle-vibration coupling and polarization effects due to deformation and time-odd mean fields on single-particle spectra is studied systematically in doubly magic nuclei from low mass $^{56}$Ni up to superheavy ones. Particle-vibration coupling is treated fully self-consistently within the framework of relativistic particle-vibration coupling model. Polarization effects due to deformation and time-odd mean field induced by odd particle are computed within covariant density functional theory. It has been found that among these contributions the coupling to vibrations makes a major impact on the single-particle structure. The impact of particle-vibration coupling and polarization effects on calculated single-particle spectra, the size of the shell gaps, the spin-orbit splittings and the energy splittings in pseudospin doublets is discussed in detail; these physical observables are compared with experiment. Particle-vibration coupling has to be taken into account when model calculations are compared with experiment since this coupling is responsible for observed fragmentation of experimental levels; experimental spectroscopic factors are reasonably well described in model calculations.
