Abstract:Seesaw mechanism provides a natural explanation of light neutrino masses through suppression of heavy seesaw scale. In inverse seesaw models the seesaw scale can be much lower than that in the usual seesaw models. If terms inducing seesaw masses are further induced by loop corrections, the seesaw scale can be lowered to be in the range probed by experiments at the LHC without fine tuning. In this paper we construct models in which inverse seesaw neutrino masses are generated at two loop level. These models also naturally have dark matter candidates. Although the recent data from Xenon100 put stringent constraint on the models, they can be consistent with data on neutrino masses, mixing, dark matter relic density and direct detection. These models also have some interesting experimental signatures for collider and flavor physics.

Abstract:We propose a minimal model where a dark sector seeds neutrino mass generation radiatively within the linear seesaw mechanism. Neutrino masses are calculable, since tree-level contributions are forbidden by symmetry. They arise from spontaneous lepton number violation by a small Higgs triplet vacuum expectation value. Lepton flavour violating processes e.g. $\mu \to e\gamma$ can be sizeable, despite the tiny neutrino masses. We comment also on dark-matter and collider implications.

Radiative Seesaw in SO(10) with Dark Matter

Abstract:High energy accelerators may probe into dark matter and the seesaw neutrino mass scales if they are not much heavier than ~O(TeV). In the absence of supersymmetry, we extend a class of SO(10) models to predict well known cold dark matter candidates while achieving precision unification with experimentally testable proton lifetime. The most important prediction is a new radiative seesaw formula of Ma type accessible to accelerator tests while the essential small value of its quartic coupling also emerges naturally. This dominates over the high-scale seesaw contributions making a major impact on neutrino physics and dark matter, opening up high prospects as a theory of fermion masses.

Abstract:With just the Standard Model Higgs doublet, there are only three types of seesaw models that generate light Majorana neutrino masses at tree level after electroweak spontaneous symmetry breaking. However, if there exist additional TeV scalars acquiring vacuum expectation values, coupled with heavier fermionic multiplets, several new seesaw models become possible. These new seesaws are the primary focus of this study and correspond to the tree-level ultraviolet completions of the effective operators studied in a companion publication. We are interested in the genuine cases, in which the standard seesaw contributions are absent. In addition to the tree-level generation of neutrino masses, we also consider the one-loop contributions. Furthermore, we construct low-energy versions that exhibit a very rich phenomenology. Specifically, we scrutinise the generation of dimension-6 operators and explore their implications, including non-unitarity of the leptonic mixing matrix, non-universal $Z-$boson interactions, and lepton flavor violation. Finally, we provide (Generalised) Scotogenic-like variants that incorporate viable dark matter candidates.

Abstract:A convincing explanation of the smallness of neutrino masses is represented by the Type-I Seesaw mechanism, where the two measured neutrino mass differences can be generated by introducing at least two right-handed neutrinos. In an ultraviolet complete model, it is possible to dynamically generate the heavy Majorana scale through the spontaneous symmetry breaking of a global Abelian symmetry and the most economical realisation consists in coupling the two exotic neutral leptons to a singlet complex scalar field. The associated Goldstone boson is often dubbed as Majoron, which may achieve a non-vanishing mass by means of a small term that explicitly breaks the Abelian symmetry. In a generic model, the neutrino and Majoron mass generation mechanisms are completely uncorrelated. In this paper, instead, we reduce the landscape of possible models proposing a unique, minimal and predictive framework in which these two types of masses are strictly tied and arise from the same source. Bounds from various terrestrial and astrophysical experiments are discussed.

Abstract:We study a mechanism where tiny neutrino masses arise only from radiative contribution in a supersymmetric model. Without tuning the Higgs vev or Yukawa coupling, the tree-level light neutrino mass is rotated away by introducing a new singlet neutrino sL that forms a Dirac mass term with the right-handed neutrino nR in each generation. Even with the U(1)Lep lepton number violation term as non-zero right-handed Majorana neutrino mass MRnRc¯nR, the lightest neutrino remains massless at tree level due to an approximate symmetry. Consequently, tiny neutrino masses then only arise from radiative contributions and the right-handed neutrino Majorana mass MR can be at O(keV) to give rise to the correct light neutrino mass at O(eV). Supersymmetry ensures that the Majorana neutrino masses MRnRc¯nR and MR⁎sLc¯sL are not generated simultaneously.
On radiative corrections to lepton number violating processes

Abstract:We consider the minimal model of the seesaw mechanism by introducing two right-handed neutrinos, whose masses are comparable to the electroweak scale. This framework is attractive, since it is testable at terrestrial experiments. A critical consequence of this mechanism is the violation of lepton number conservation due to the Majorana masses of both active neutrinos and heavy neutral leptons. In particular, we investigate the impact of the radiative corrections to Majorana masses of left-handed neutrinos on the lepton number violating processes, such as the neutrinoless double beta decay: $(Z, A) \to (Z+2,A) + 2 e^-$ and the inverse neutrinoless double beta decay: $e^- e^- \to W^- W^-$. It is shown that the cross section of the inverse neutrinoless double beta decay can increase by ${\cal O}(10)$~% when the masses of heavy neutral leptons are ${\cal O}(1)$~TeV, which has significant implications on future experiments.

Abstract:The experimental confirmation of neutrino mass and mixing disagrees with the picture of the Standard Model, and thus provides a good motivation to look for unknown physics. A seesaw variant in which neutrino masses are radiatively generated, with neutrinos characterized by Majorana fields and where a set of three hypothetical neutral heavy leptons are present, has been considered in the present work. We have calculated, estimated, and analyzed the contributions from virtual light and heavy neutrinos to the gauge vertex WWZ , in the context of a future electron-positron collider. We have found that contributions to both CP -even and CP -odd anomalous couplings are generated. Our estimations indicate that contributions as large as 10−3 can be achieved in both cases. This is particularly interesting for the CP -odd effects, which are expected to appear in the framework of the Standard Model since the three-loop order, thus being quite suppressed. By considering the expected sensitivity of the International Linear Collider to this gauge vertex, we conclude that these new-physics effects would be within its reach for e+e− collisions taking place at a center-of-mass energy of 800 GeV. https://doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevD.110.035025 Published by the American Physical Society under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license. Abstract:In this paper we propose a novel supersymmetric inverse seesaw model which has only one additional Z(6) symmetry. The field content is minimal to get a viable neutrino spectrum at tree-level. Interestingly, the inverse seesaw scale in our model is related to the scale of electroweak symmetry breaking. Due to that origin we are less biased about hierarchies and discuss three different types of the inverse seesaw mechanism with different phenomenologies. We can successfully reproduce neutrino masses and mixing and our model is consistent with current bounds on neutrinoless double beta decay, non-unitarity of the PMNS matrix and charged lepton flavor violation.
A seesaw model for large neutrino masses in concordance with cosmology

Abstract:Cosmological constraints on the sum of the neutrino masses can be relaxed if the number density of active neutrinos is reduced compared to the standard scenario, while at the same time keeping the effective number of neutrino species $N_{\rm eff}\approx 3$ by introducing a new component of dark radiation. We discuss a UV complete model to realise this idea, which simultaneously provides neutrino masses via the seesaw mechanism. It is based on a $U(1)$ symmetry in the dark sector, which can be either gauged or global. In addition to heavy seesaw neutrinos, we need to introduce $\mathcal{O}(10)$ generations of massless sterile neutrinos providing the dark radiation. Then we can accommodate active neutrino masses with $\sum m_\nu \sim 1$ eV, in the sensitivity range of the KATRIN experiment. We discuss the phenomenology of the model and identify the allowed parameter space. We argue that the gauged version of the model is preferred, and in this case the typical energy scale of the model is in the 10 MeV to few GeV range.

A scheme for neutrino mass generation through modified Higgs mechanism

Abstract:We propose a new method for neutrino mass generation through a modified Higgs mechanism by introducing an additional tiny vacuum breaking to the charged Higgs field. With identical particle spectrum as standard electroweak model, this modified Higgs mechanism endows the lepton-Higgs Yukawa coupling Lagrangian with a modified lepton mass matrix. Inserting the latest data of particle experiments into this modified lepton mass matrix enable us to locate the value of the newly introduced parameter parametrizing the extra perturbative Higgs vacuum breaking and produce masses for neutrinos of three generations. We reach a sum of three-generation neutrino massess at: $\Sigma_{(\nu)} ~ m_{\nu} \approx 0.104078 ~eV$. This prediction is supported by the result of the latest cosmological observation, i.e. the 95\% C.L. upper bound $\Sigma_{(\nu)} ~ m_{\nu} < 0.176 ~eV$ determined by the Planck data. In our proposal of the modified Higgs mechanism, the Higgs vacua break twice, such that, the very minuteness of the extra Higgs vacuum breaking explains the origin of the very minuteness of neutrino masses, while the relative greatness of the standard Higgs vacuum breaking is recognized as the origin of the relative greatness of charged lepton masses. This proposal can bring rich new physics to Higgs-relevant problems in particle physics, besides the massive neutrino problems.

Abstract:We present a mathematical framework for constructing the most general neutrino mass matrices that yield the observed spectrum of light active neutrino masses in conjunction with arbitrarily many heavy sterile neutrinos, without the need to assume a hierarchy between Dirac and Majorana mass terms. The seesaw mechanism is a byproduct of the formalism, along with many other possibilities for generating tiny neutrino masses. Abstract:In this paper, we explore a new avenue to a natural explanation of the observed tiny neutrino masses with a dynamical realization of the three-generation structure in the neutrino sector. Under the magnetized background based on $T^2/Z_2$, matter consists of multiply-degenerated zero modes and the whole intergenerational structure is dynamically determined. In this sense, we can conclude that our scenario is favored by minimality, where no degree of freedom remains to deform the intergenerational structure by hand freely. Under the consideration of brane-localized Majorana-type mass terms for an $SU(2)_L$ singlet neutrino, it is sufficient to introduce one Higgs doublet for reproducing the observed neutrino data. In all reasonable flux configurations with three right-handed neutrinos, phenomenologically acceptable parameter configurations are found.

Abstract:We demonstrate how to systematically test a well-motivated mechanism for neutrino mass generation (type II seesaw) at the LHC, in which a Higgs triplet is introduced. In the optimistic scenarios with a small Higgs triplet vacuum expectation value v(Delta) < 10(-4) GeV, one can look for clean signals of lepton-number violation in the decays of doubly charged (H-+/-+/-) and singly charged (H-+/-) Higgs bosons to distinguish the normal hierarchy (NH), the inverted hierarchy (IH), and the quasidegenerate (QD) spectrum for the light neutrino masses. The observation of either H+ -> tau(+)(nu) over bar or H+ -> e(+)(nu) over bar will be particularly robust for the spectrum test since they are independent of the unknown Majorana phases. The H++ decays moderately depend on a Majorana phase Phi(2) in the NH, but sensitively depend on Phi(1) in the IH. In a less favorable scenario v(Delta) > 2 x 10(-4) GeV, when the leptonic channels are suppressed, one needs to observe the decays H+ -> W+H1 and H+ -> t (b) over bar to confirm the triplet-doublet mixing which in turn implies the existence of the same gauge-invariant interaction between the lepton doublet and the Higgs triplet responsible for the neutrino mass generation. In the most optimistic situation, v(Delta) similar to 10(-4) GeV, both channels of the lepton pairs and gauge boson pairs may be available simultaneously. The determination of their relative branching fractions would give a measurement for the value of v(Delta).

Abstract:We show that three open questions in particle physics and cosmology: the origin of neutrino mass, the identity of dark matter, and the origin of the baryon asymmetry of the universe can be explained simultaneously in the three-loop seesaw model proposed by Krauss, Nasri, and Trodden. We discuss the difficulty of successful leptogenesis with three right-handed neutrinos, and we propose a scenario with four right-handed neutrinos that satisfies all observational constraints. This scenario predicts a sleptonlike particle as light as a few hundreds GeV that can be probed by future collider experiments.

Probing the Neutrino Seesaw Scale with Gravitational Waves

Abstract:Neutrinos are the most elusive particles of the Standard Model. The physics behind their masses remains unknown and requires introducing new particles and interactions. An elegant solution to this problem is provided by the seesaw mechanism. Typically considered at a high scale, it is potentially testable in gravitational wave experiments by searching for a spectrum from cosmic strings, which offers a rather generic signature across many high-scale seesaw models. Here we consider the possibility of a low-scale seesaw mechanism at the PeV scale, generating neutrino masses within the framework of a model with gauged U(1) lepton number. In this case, the gravitational wave signal at high frequencies arises from a first order phase transition in the early Universe, whereas at low frequencies it is generated by domain wall annihilation, leading to a double-peaked structure in the gravitational wave spectrum. The signals discussed here can be searched for in upcoming experiments, including gravitational wave interferometers, pulsar timing arrays, and astrometry observations.

Abstract:We propose an extended Left-Right symmetric model with an additional global symmetry $U(1)_X$, which after spontaneous symmetry breaking collapses to a residual subgroup $\mathbb{Z}_2$, ensuring that the light active neutrino masses are generated via a double seesaw mechanism at two loop level, with the Dirac submatrix arising at one loop. It also guarantees one loop level masses for the SM charged fermions lighter than the top quark and protects Dark Matter (DM) candidates of the model. To the best of our knowledge our model has the first implementation of the radiative double seesaw mechanism with the Dirac submatrix generated at one loop level. We show that the model can successfully accommodate the observed pattern of SM fermion masses as well as mixings and is compatible with the constraints arising from the muon $g-2$ anomaly, neutrinoless double beta decay and DM.

Abstract:The modified O'Raifeartaigh model from the context of the generalized seesaw mechanism of neutrino mass is investigated. In our evaluation of effective potentials of the theory, both the component field and the superspace formalisms to approach the problem are presented. In the component field formalism, we take into account the Bose-Einstein condensates in the scalar sector by the method of many-boson theory, i.e. we consider both the condensates and the Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov-type self-energies of quantum fluctuations. The diagonalization of the mass matrix of the fermion sector gives the same functional forms of the mass eigenvalues in the generalized seesaw mechanism. The stability condition in the vicinity of the classical vacuum which shows the generalized seesaw situation is obtained by the examination of the mass eigenvalues of the scalar sector of the model. The superspace formalism will be devoted to a comparison between its result with that of the component field formalism.
