Abstract:We discuss the thermodynamics of a gas of free particles obeying Haldane's exclusion statistics, deriving low temperature and low density expansions. For gases with a constant density of states, we derive an exact equation of state and find that temperature-dependent quantities are independent of the statistics parameter.

Abstract:An analytical scheme to determine the statistical behavior of a stochastic system including two terms of fractional derivative with real, arbitrary, fractional orders is proposed. In this approach, Green’s functions obtained are based on a Laplace transform approach and the weighted generalized Mittag–Leffler function. The responses of the system can be subsequently described as a Duhamel integral-type close-form expression. These expressions are applied to obtain the statistical behavior of a dynamical system excited by stationary stochastic processes. The numerical simulation based on the modified Euler method and Monte Carlo approach is developed. Three examples of single-degree-of-freedom system with fractional derivative damping under Gaussian white noise excitation are presented to illustrate application of the proposed method.

Abstract:I show that fractional exclusion statistics (FES) is manifested in general interacting systems and I calculate the exclusion statistics parameters. Most importantly, I show that the mutual exclusion statistics parameters--when the presence of particles in one Hilbert space influences the dimension of another Hilbert space--are proportional to the dimension of the Hilbert space on which they act. This result, although surprising and different from the usual way of understanding the FES, renders this statistics consistent and valid in the thermodynamic limit, in accordance with the conjucture introduced in J. Phys. A: Math. Theor. 40, F1013 (2007).

Abstract:The Liouville and first Bogoliubov hierarchy equations with derivatives of noninteger order are derived. The fractional Liouville equation is obtained from the conservation of probability to find a system in a fractional volume element. This equation is used to obtain Bogoliubov hierarchy and fractional kinetic equations with fractional derivatives. Statistical mechanics of fractional generalization of the Hamiltonian systems is discussed. Liouville and Bogoliubov equations with fractional coordinate and momenta derivatives are considered as a basis to derive fractional kinetic equations. The Fokker-Planck-Zaslavsky equation that has fractional phase-space derivatives is obtained from fractional Bogoliubov equation. The linear fractional kinetic equation for distribution of the charged particles is considered.

Abstract:The quantum-mechanical description of assemblies of particles whose motion is confined to two (or one) spatial dimensions offers many possibilities that are distinct from bosons and fermions. We call such particles anyons. The simplest anyons are parameterized by an angular phase parameter θ. θ = 0, π correspond to bosons and fermions, respectively; at intermediate values, we say that we have fractional statistics. In two dimensions, θ describes the phase acquired by the wave function as two anyons wind around one another counterclockwise. It generates a shift in the allowed values for the relative angular momentum. Composites of localized electric charge and magnetic flux associated with an abelian U(1) gauge group realize this behavior. More complex charge-flux constructions can involve nonabelian and product groups acting on a spectrum of allowed charges and fluxes, giving rise to nonabelian and mutual statistics. Interchanges of nonabelian anyons implement unitary transformations of the wave function within an emergent space of internal states. Anyons of all kinds are described by quantum field theories that include Chern–Simons terms. The crossings of one-dimensional anyons on a ring are unidirectional, such that a fractional phase θ acquired upon interchange gives rise to fractional shifts in the relative momenta between the anyons. The quasiparticle excitations of fractional quantum Hall states have long been predicted to include anyons. Recently, the anyon behavior predicted for quasiparticles in the ν = 1/3 fractional quantum Hall state has been observed in both scattering and interferometric experiments. Excitations within designed systems, notably including superconducting circuits, can exhibit anyon behavior. Such systems are being developed for possible use in quantum information processing.

Abstract:We present a stochastic method for the simulation of the time evolution in systems which obey generalized statistics, namely fractional exclusion statistics and Gentile's statistics. The transition rates are derived in the framework of canonical ensembles. This approach introduces a tool for describing interacting fermionic and bosonic systems in non-equilibrium as ideal FES systems, in a computationally efficient manner. The two types of statistics are analyzed comparatively, indicating their intrinsic thermodynamic differences and revealing key aspects related to the species size.

Abstract:Abstract It has been argued that non-Gaussian statistics provide a natural framework to investigate semiclassical effects in the context of Planck-scale deformations of the Heisenberg uncertainty relation. Here we substantiate this point by considering the Unruh effect as a specific playground. By working in the realm of quantum field theory, we reformulate the derivation of the modified Unruh effect from the generalized uncertainty principle (GUP) in the language of the nonextensive Tsallis thermostatistics. We find a nontrivial monotonic relation between the nonextensivity index q and the GUP deformation parameter $$\beta $$ β , which generalizes an earlier result obtained in quantum mechanics. We then extend our analysis to black hole thermodynamics. We preliminarily discuss our outcome in the broader context of an effective description of Planck-scale gravitational physics based on Tsallis theory.

Abstract:We discuss how one-dimensional interacting fermion systems, which in the low energy approximation are described by Luttinger liquid theory, can be reformulated as systems of weakly interacting particles with fractional charge and statistics. Our approach is to use Landau's phenomenological approach to Fermi liquid theory, where the quasiparticles are interpreted as adiabatically dressed fermions. In an earlier publication the local charge carried by these excitations has been shown to be fractional. We focus here on the statistics of the quasiparticles and show that by a change of momentum variables the Landau parameters of the generalized Fermi fluid can be transformed to zero. This change in interaction is compensated by a change of the entropy function, which is consistent with the interpretation of the quasiparticles as satisfying generalized exclusion statistics.

Abstract:Using fractional statistics, we discuss the quantum Hall effect (QHE) of two-dimensional fermion and boson systems. If the basic charge carriers in a system are fermions with charge e, a necessary condition to have the QHE at a filling factor \ensuremath{\nu}=p/q with ${\ensuremath{\sigma}}_{H}$=(p/q)${e}^{2}$/h is that mutual primes p and , hence the QHE is allowed only when q is odd. If the basic charge carriers are bosons with charge e, such as bound pairs of electrons, a necessary condition to have the QHE at \ensuremath{\nu}=p/q with ${\ensuremath{\sigma}}_{H}$=(p/q)${e}^{2}$/h is that p and q must satisfy ${e}^{\mathrm{ipq}\ensuremath{\pi}}$=1, so the possible candidates are \ensuremath{\nu}=(2${n}_{1}$)/(2${n}_{2}$+1) and (2${n}_{1}$+1)/(2${n}_{2}$) where ${n}_{1}$ and ${n}_{2}$ are integers.

Abstract:We introduce the hypothesis of incomplete information into the fractional exclusion statistics in order to apply the latter to some correlated heavy fermion systems. It is shown that the actual inexplicit distribution function of FES may be replaced by an equivalent explicit one of which the form does not change with $\alpha$ value.

Abstract:Starting from a specific definition of fractional statistics for hard-core particles, we find a set of intermediate statistics systems, in which a single-particle quantum state can be effectively occupied by an integer number of identical particles - M-ons, as in the case for fermions and bosons. A quantum statistical theory of an ideal M-on gas is formulated exactly, and the associated distribution is explicitly represented in a simple analytical form. A possible application to the fractional quantum Hall effect is also briefly discussed.

Abstract:We discuss exclusion statistics parameters for quasiholes and quasielectrons excited above the fractional quantum Hall states near $\nu=p/(2np+1)$. We derive the diagonal statistics parameters from the (``unprojected'') composite fermion (CF) picture. We propose values for the off-diagonal (mutual) statistics parameters as a simple modification of those obtained from the unprojected CF picture, by analyzing finite system numerical spectra in the spherical geometry.

Abstract:In this study, we have extended the idea of fractional spin introduced recently in literature based on two orders fractional derivative operator. Generalizations of the fractional spin, the fractional angular momentum and the fractional momentum operators were obtained. The theory is characterized by a noncommutativity between the generalized fractional angular momentum and the fractional Hamiltonian. We have derived the corresponding fractional Schrödinger equation and we have discussed its implications on the problems of a free particle and a particle moving in an infinite well potential. Enhancements of their corresponding energies levels and ground energies were observed which are in agreement with phenomenological theories such as noncommutative quantum mechanics.

Abstract:Abstract Quantum statistics plays a fundamental role in the laws of nature. Haldane fractional exclusion statistics (FES) generalizes the Pauli exclusion statistics, and can emerge in the properties of elementary particle and hole excitations of a quantum system consisting of conventional bosons or fermions. FES has a long history of intensive studies, but its simple realization in interacting physical systems is rare. Here we report on a simple non-mutual FES that depicts the particle-hole symmetry breaking in interacting Bose gases at a quantum critical point. We show that the FES distribution directly comes from particle-hole symmetry breaking. Based on exact solutions, quantum Monte Carlo simulations, and experiments, we find that, over a wide range of interaction strengths, the macroscopic physical properties of these gases are determined by non-interacting quasi-particles that obey non-mutual FES of the same form in one and two dimensions (1D and 2D). Whereas strongly interacting Bose gases reach full fermionization in 1D, they exhibit incomplete fermionization in 2D. Our results provide a generic connection between interaction-induced particle-hole symmetry breaking (depicted by FES) and macroscopic properties of many-body systems in arbitrary dimensions. Our work lays the groundwork for using FES to explore quantum criticality and other novel many-body phenomena in strongly-correlated quantum systems.

Abstract:We investigate the H-theorem for a class of generalized kinetic equations with fractional time-derivative, hyperbolic term, and nonlinear diffusion. When the H-theorem is satisfied, we demonstrate that different entropic forms may emerge due to the equation's nonlinearity. We obtain the entropy production related to these entropies and show that its form remains invariant. Furthermore, we investigate some behaviors for these equations from both numerical and analytical perspectives, showing a large class of behaviors connected with anomalous diffusion and their effects on entropy.
Derivation of a statistical model for classical systems obeying the fractional exclusion principle

Abstract:The violation of the Pauli principle has been surmised in several models of the fractional exclusion statistics and successfully applied to several quantum systems. In this paper, a classical alternative of the exclusion statistics is studied using the maximum entropy methods. The difference between the Bose-Einstein statistics and the Maxwell-Boltzmann statistics is understood in terms of a separable quantity, namely the degree of indistinguishability. Starting from the usual Maxwell-Boltzmann microstate counting formula, a special restriction related to the degree of indistinguishability is incorporated using Lagrange multipliers to derive the probability distribution function at equilibrium under NVE conditions. It is found that the resulting probability distribution function generates real positive values within the permissible range of parameters. For a dilute system, the probability distribution function is intermediate between the Fermi-Dirac and Bose-Einstein statistics and follows the exclusion principle. Properties of various variables of this novel statistical model are studied and possible application to classical thermodynamics is discussed.
Fractional binomial distributions induced by the generalized binomial theorem and their applications

Abstract:A generalized binomial theorem was established by Hara and Hino [Bull. London Math. Soc. 42 (2010), 467-477] for proving the neo-classical inequality. We introduce a new fractional analogue of the binomial distribution on the basis of the generalized binomial theorem and study its properties. They include the law of large numbers, the central limit theorem, and the law of small numbers, the last of which leads to a fractional analogue of the Poisson distribution. As an application of the fractional binomial distribution, a fractional analogue of the Bernstein operator is proposed, which acts on the space of continuous functions on the unit interval. We show that the fractional Bernstein operator uniformly approximates every continuous function on the unit interval. Some limit theorems for its iterates are discussed as well. In particular, a generalization of the Wright--Fisher diffusion process arising in the study of population genetics is captured as a certain limit of the iterates.

Abstract:In one and two spatial dimensions there is a logical possibility for identical quantum particles different from bosons and fermions, obeying intermediate or fractional (anyon) statistics. We consider applications of a recent Lieb-Thirring inequality for anyons in two dimensions, and derive new Lieb-Thirring inequalities for intermediate statistics in one dimension with implications for models of Lieb-Liniger and Calogero-Sutherland type. These inequalities follow from a local form of the exclusion principle valid for such generalized exchange statistics.

Abstract:We give two formulations of exclusion statistics (ES) using a variable number of bosonic or fermionic single-particle states which depend on the number of particles in the system. Associated bosonic and fermionic ES parameters are introduced and are discussed for FQHE quasiparticles, anyons in the lowest Landau level and for the Calogero-Sutherland model. In the latter case, only one family of solutions is emphasized to be sufficient to recover ES; appropriate families are specified for a number of formulations of the Calogero-Sutherland model. We extend the picture of variable number of single-particle states to generalized ideal gases with statistical interaction between particles of different momenta. Integral equations are derived which determine the momentum distribution for single-particle states and distribution of particles over the single-particle states in the thermal equilibrium.
