Abstract:Present information technology is based on the laws of classical physics. However, advances in quantum physics have stimulated interest in its potential impact on such technology. This article is an introductory review of three aspects of quantum information processing, cryptography, computation, and teleportation. The author serves up hors d'oeuvres on the relevant parts of quantum physics and the sorts of quantum systems which might form the building blocks for quantum processors. Quantum cryptography utilizes states of individual quantum systems for the transfer of conventional classical bits of information. The impossibility of measuring quantum systems without disturbing them guarantees the detection of eavesdropping and hence secure information transfer is possible. In a sense, teleportation is the inverse of cryptography, using more robust classical bits to faithfully transfer a quantum state through a noisy environment. Quantum computation utilizes the evolving quantum state of a complex system, which consists of many interacting individuals. If such a machine could be built, it would be capable of solving some problems which are intractable on any conventional computer; he illustrates this with Shor's (see Proc. 35th IEEE Symposium on Foundations of Computer Science, p.124, 1994) quantum factoring algorithm. Details are given of the current experimental achievements, proposals, and prospects for the future and of the patents granted to date.

Abstract:Quantum communication is built on a set of disruptive concepts and technologies. It is driven by fascinating physics and by promising applications. It requires a new mix of competencies, from telecom engineering to theoretical physics, from theoretical computer science to mechanical and electronic engineering. First applications have already found their way to niche markets and university labs are working on futuristic quantum networks, but most of the surprises are still ahead of us. Quantum communication, and more generally quantum information science and technologies, are here to stay and will have a profound impact on the XXI century.

Abstract:On the atomic scale, matter obeys the rules of quantum mechanics which are quite different from the classical rules that determine the properties of conventional computers. Today's advanced lithographic techniques can etch logic gates and wires less than a micron across onto the surfaces of silicon chips. Soon they will yield even smaller parts and inevitably reach a point where logic gates are so small that they are made out of only a handful of atoms. So, if computers are to become smaller in the future, new, quantum technology must replace or supplement what we have now. This article provides a grand overview of quantum information theory from the concept of quantum bits (qubits) to entanglement to quantum computation to quantum cryptography.

Abstract:Quantum Computing observed a significant rise to public and technologies in past three decades, the reason behind for the development of quantum computing is to solve various problems which are so complex that traditional (classical) computers were not able to solve. New technologies, hardware components and software advancements are being discovered all around the world in order to use this powerful tool. But in addition to the development of technologies and the attempt to scale up the quantum computers, new challenges and problems too came in light which makes it tough for further progress in the quest to unlock the true development of quantum computers. Various methods has been identified for Quantum Information Processing (QIP), but the error rates were more than what we would expect often resulting in inappropriate computations which eventually gives inaccurate conclusions.In this work, we discuss about the prominent hardware and software methods to build the quantum computers with low error rates and better accuracy, we will look onto the topics related to qubits and its principles which are incorporated in Quantum Processing Units (QPUs) which govern the working of quantum computers, the topics of quantum algorithms and its methodology are also been discussed to provide a clear understanding of the manipulation of qubits according to the purpose needed. In addition to that we will talk about the applications like quantum teleportation and cryptography which utilizes the quantum computers, and discuss about the future enhancements which can be done using this technology.

Abstract:This is a brief review of the experimental and theoretical quantum computing. The hopes for eventually building a useful quantum computer rely entirely on the so-called "threshold theorem". In turn, this theorem is based on a number of assumptions, treated as axioms, i.e. as being satisfied exactly. Since in reality this is not possible, the prospects of scalable quantum computing will remain uncertain until the required precision, with which these assumptions should be approached, is established. Some related sociological aspects are also discussed. .

Abstract:Moore’s law will cease to be relevant once transistors are the size of electrons. Once this occurs, we will no longer be able to use silicon for technological advancement. However, breakthroughs will continue in the form of a sixth paradigm: a 3D molecular computing model such as quantum comput- ing. Some of the promising areas of quantum computing researched in this study are (i) algorithmic advancements - such as Shor’s, Grover’s, error correction, fault tolerance and other new algorithms; (ii) hardware - such as the quantum system architecture, circuit models, entanglement, superposition and no-cloning qubits; (iii) market segments - such as finance, healthcare, and chemistry; (iv) the supremacy established over classical computing; and (v) areas of applicability. Significant progress has been made in these areas in recent decades, and they have garnered immense interest, attention and the funding required to make good progress.

Abstract:Quantum information, computation and communication, will have a great impact on our world. One important subfield will be quantum networking and the quantum Internet. The purpose of a quantum Internet is to enable applications that are fundamentally out of reach for the classical Internet. Quantum networks enable new capabilities to communication systems. This allows the parties to generate long distance quantum entanglement, which serves a number of tasks including the generation of multiparty shared secrets whose security relies only on the laws of physics, distributed quantum computing, improved sensing, quantum computing on encrypted data, and secure private-bid auctions. However, quantum signals are fragile, and, in general, cannot be copied or amplified. In order to enable widespread use and application development, it is essential to develop methods that allow quantum protocols to connect to the underlying hardware implementation transparently and to make fast and reactive decisions for generating entanglement in the network to mitigate limited qubit lifetimes. Architectures for large-scale quantum internetworking are in development, paralleling theoretical and experimental work on physical layers and low-level error management and connection technologies. This chapter aims to present the main concepts, challenges, and opportunities for research in quantum information, quantum computing and quantum networking.

Abstract:Faster algorithms, novel cryptographic mechanisms, and alternative methods of communication become possible when the model underlying information and computation changes from a classical mechanical model to a quantum mechanical one. Quantum algorithms perform a select set of tasks vastly more efficiently than any classical algorithm, but for many tasks it has been proved that quantum algorithms provide no advantage. The breadth of quantum computing applications is still being explored. Major application areas include security and the many fields that would benefit from efficient quantum simulation. The quantum information processing viewpoint provides insight into classical algorithmic issues as well as a deeper understanding of entanglement and other non-classical aspects of quantum physics. This overview is aimed at technology managers who wish to gain a high level understanding of quantum information processing, particularly quantum computing.

Abstract:Ever since its inception, cryptography has been caught in a vicious circle: Cryptographers keep inventing methods to hide information, and cryptanalysts break them, prompting cryptographers to invent even more sophisticated encryption schemes, and so on. But could it be that quantum information technology breaks this circle? At first sight, it looks as if it just lifts the competition between cryptographers and cryptanalysts to the next level. Indeed, quantum computers will render most of today’s public key cryptosystems insecure. Nonetheless, there are good reasons to believe that cryptographers will ultimately prevail over cryptanalysts. Quantum cryptography allows us to build communication schemes whose secrecy relies only on the laws of physics and some minimum assumptions about the cryptographic hardware—leaving basically no room for an attack. While we are not yet there, this paper provides an overview of the principles and state-of-the-art of quantum cryptography, as well as an assessment of current challenges and prospects for overcoming them.

Abstract:Quantum technologies should have a profound impact on cryptography and information security industry in the coming age.The general quantum computers,which can run quantum algorithms by thousands of qubits,posing a serious threat to the fundamental algorithms of information security.The famous RSA algorithm and other public key ciphers will be broken and the cryptographic strength of block ciphers will be halved.The implementation of the quantum key distribution in quantum communication must alter the physical construction of traditional secure communication.These important application values are also the driving factors for developing quantum technologies.Combining with the current hot news of quantum technologies,the effects to information security technology were reviewed from two perspectives,quantum computation and quantum communication,respectively.Meanwhile,the status of the new developments in these technologies was briefly introduced,including the advances of general and specific quantum compu-ters,the progress of quantum key distribution made in laboratory conditions and the state of development of the space-ground quantum communication network.In the end,the future form of information security technology was given with a summary.In future,the quantum technologies will deeply integrate and co-exist with various existing technologies.

Abstract:The advanced notebooks, mobile phones, and internet applications in today's world that we use are all entrenched in classical communication bits of zeros and ones. Classical internet has laid its foundation originating from the amalgamation of mathematics and Claude Shannon's theory of information. But today's internet technology is a playground for eavesdroppers. This poses a serious challenge to various applications that relies on classical internet technology. This has motivated the researchers to switch to new technologies that are fundamentally more secure. Exploring the quantum effects, researchers paved the way into quantum networks that provide security, privacy and range of capabilities such as quantum computation, communication and metrology. The realization of quantum internet requires quantum communication between various remote nodes through quantum channels guarded by quantum cryptographic protocols. Such networks rely upon quantum bits (qubits) that can simultaneously take the value of zeros and ones. Due to extraordinary properties of qubits such as entanglement, teleportation and superposition, it gives an edge to quantum networks over traditional networks in many ways. But at the same time transmitting qubits over long distances is a formidable task and extensive research is going on quantum teleportation over such distances, which will become a breakthrough in physically realizing quantum internet in near future. In this paper, quantum internet functionalities, technologies, applications and open challenges have been extensively surveyed to help readers gain a basic understanding of infrastructure required for the development of global quantum internet.

Abstract:Quantum Computing is a technology, which promises to overcome the drawbacks of conventional CMOS technology for high density and high performance applications. Its potential to revolutionize today's computing world is attracting more and more researchers towards this field. However, due to the involvement of quantum properties, many beginners find it difficult to follow the field. Therefore, in this research note an effort has been made to introduce the various aspects of quantum computing to researchers, quantum engineers and scientists. The historical background and basic concepts necessary to understand quantum computation and information processing have been introduced in a lucid manner. Various physical implementations and potential application areas of quantum computation have also been discussed in this paper. Abstract:The recent advances in quantum information processing, sensing and communications are surveyed with the objective of identifying the associated knowledge gaps and formulating a roadmap for their future evolution. Since the operation of quantum systems is prone to the deleterious effects of decoherence, which manifests itself in terms of bit-flips, phase-flips or both, the pivotal subject of quantum error mitigation is reviewed both in the presence and absence of quantum coding. The state-of-the-art, knowledge gaps and future evolution of quantum machine learning are also discussed, followed by a discourse on quantum radar systems and briefly hypothesizing about the feasibility of integrated sensing and communications in the quantum domain. Finally, we conclude with a set of promising future research ideas in the field of ultimately secure quantum communications with the objective of harnessing ideas from the classical communications field.

Abstract:Quantum computing technologies have become a hot topic in academia and industry receiving much attention and financial support from all sides. Building a quantum computer that can be used practically is in itself an outstanding challenge that has become the ‘new race to the moon’. Next to researchers and vendors of future computing technologies, national authorities are showing strong interest in maturing this technology due to its known potential to break many of today’s encryption techniques, which would have significant and potentially disruptive impact on our society. It is, however, quite likely that quantum computing has beneficial impact on many computational disciplines. In this article we describe our vision of future developments in scientific computing that would be enabled by the advent of software-programmable quantum computers. We thereby assume that quantum computers will form part of a hybrid accelerated computing platform like GPUs and co-processor cards do today. In particular, we address the potential of quantum algorithms to bring major breakthroughs in applied mathematics and its applications. Finally, we give several examples that demonstrate the possible impact of quantum-accelerated scientific computing on society.

Abstract:Quantum computing and quantum communications are exciting new frontiers in computing and communications. Indeed, the massive investments made by the governments of the US, China, and EU in these new technologies are not a secret and are based on the expected potential of these technologies to revolutionize communications, computing, and security. In addition to several field trials and hero experiments, a number of companies such as Google and IBM are actively working in these areas and some have already reported impressive demonstrations in the past few years. While there is some skepticism about whether quantum cryptography will eventually replace classical cryptography, the advent of quantum computing could necessitate the use of quantum cryptography as the ultimate frontier of secure communications. This is because, with the amazing speeds demonstrated with quantum computers, breaking cryptographic keys might no longer be a daunting task in the next decade or so. Hence, quantum cryptography as the ultimate frontier in secure communications might not be such a far-fetched idea. It is well known that Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle is essentially a "negative result" in Physics and Quantum Mechanics. It turns out that Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle, one of the most interesting results in Quantum Mechanics, could be the theoretical basis and the main scientific principle behind the ultimate frontier in quantum cryptography or secure communications in conjunction with Quantum Entanglement.

Abstract:The recent development of quantum computing, which uses entanglement, superposition, and other quantum fundamental concepts, can provide substantial processing advantages over traditional computing. These quantum features help solve many complex problems that cannot be solved otherwise with conventional computing methods. These problems include modeling quantum mechanics, logistics, chemical-based advances, drug design, statistical science, sustainable energy, banking, reliable communication, and quantum chemical engineering. The last few years have witnessed remarkable progress in quantum software and algorithm creation and quantum hardware research, which has significantly advanced the prospect of realizing quantum computers. It would be helpful to have comprehensive literature research on this area to grasp the current status and find outstanding problems that require considerable attention from the research community working in the quantum computing industry. To better understand quantum computing, this paper examines the foundations and vision based on current research in this area. We discuss cutting-edge developments in quantum computer hardware advancement and subsequent advances in quantum cryptography, quantum software, and high-scalability quantum computers. Many potential challenges and exciting new trends for quantum technology research and development are highlighted in this paper for a broader debate.
