Abstract:In this paper, we focus on semiprime skew left braces provided by semidirect products. We show that if a semidirect product $B_1\rtimes B_2$ is semiprime and $B_1$ is Artinian, then $B_1$ must be semiprime. Moreover, we prove that the semidirect product of strongly semiprime skew left braces is strongly semiprime. Finally, following \cite[Question $1$]{smoktunowicz2024more}, we provide examples of skew left braces of abelian type that are non-simple and strongly prime.

Abstract:In order to study two-sided skew braces, we introduce the notion of weakly trivial skew braces. We give a classification of such skew braces and show that every two-sided skew brace is an extension of a weakly trivial skew brace by a two-sided brace. As a result, we obtain new and generalize known results relating the additive and multiplicative group of two-sided skew braces. Further, we show that two a priori different notions of prime and semiprime skew braces, as introduced by Konovalov, Smoktunowicz and Vendramin, coincide for two-sided skew braces.

This database is then used to explore different concepts of the theory of skew braces such as ideals, series of ideals, prime and semiprime ideals, Baer and Wedderburn radicals and solvability. Abstract:By previous work of Cedó, Smoktunowicz, and Vendramin, one already knows that the analog of Grün's lemma fails to hold for perfect skew left braces when the socle is used as an analog of the center of a group. In this paper, we use the annihilator instead of the socle. We shall show that the analog of Grün's lemma holds for perfect two-sided skew braces but not in general.

Abstract:Braces are generalizations of radical rings, introduced by Rump to study involutive non-degenerate set-theoretical solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation (YBE). Skew braces were also recently introduced as a tool to study not necessarily involutive solutions. Roughly speaking, skew braces provide group-theoretical and ring-theoretical methods to understand solutions of the YBE. It turns out that skew braces appear in many different contexts, such as near-rings, matched pairs of groups, triply factorized groups, bijective 1-cocycles and Hopf-Galois extensions. These connections and some of their consequences are explored in this paper. We produce several new families of solutions related in many different ways with rings, near-rings and groups. We also study the solutions of the YBE that skew braces naturally produce. We prove, for example, that the order of the canonical solution associated with a finite skew brace is even: it is two times the exponent of the additive group modulo its center.

On a family of simple skew braces

Abstract:Several constructions have been given for families of simple braces, but few examples are known of simple skew braces which are not braces. In this paper, we exhibit the first example of an infinite family of simple skew braces which are not braces and which do not arise from nonabelian simple groups. More precisely, we show that, for any primes $p$, $q$ such that $q$ divides ${(p^p-1)}/{(p-1)}$, there are exactly two simple skew braces (up to isomorphism) of order $p^p q$.

Abstract:We define the twofold semidirect product of two skew left braces, in which both the additive and multiplicative groups are semidirect products of the corresponding groups of the given skew left braces. We consider an odd prime $p$ and an integer $n$ satisfying $p\nmid n$, $p\nmid|\mathrm{Aut}(E)|$ for every group $E$ of order $n$ and such that each group of order $np$ has a unique $p$-Sylow subgroup. Under these conditions, we prove that any skew left brace of size $np$ is either a twofold semidirect product of the trivial brace of size $p$ and a skew brace of size $n$ or a companion skew brace of that one. We develop an algorithm to obtain all skew braces of size $np$ from the braces of size $n$ and provide a formula to count them. We use this result to describe all braces of size $12p$ for $p\geq 7$, which proves a conjecture of V.G. Bardakov, M.V. Neshchadim and M.K. Yadav.

Abstract:We use the structure of skew braces to enhance the biquandle counting invariant for virtual knots and links for finite biquandles defined from skew braces. We introduce two new invariants: a single-variable polynomial using skew brace ideals and a two-variable polynomial using the skew brace group structures. We provide examples to show that the new invariants are not determined by the counting invariant and hence are proper enhancements.

Abstract:A wreath product is a method to construct an association scheme from two association schemes. We determine the automorphism group of a wreath product. We show a known result that a wreath product is Schurian if and only if both components are Schurian, which yields large families of non-Schurian association schemes and non-Schurian $S$-rings. We also study iterated wreath products. Kernel schemes by Martin and Stinson are shown to be iterated wreath products of class-one association schemes. The iterated wreath products give examples of projective systems of non-Schurian association schemes, with an explicit description of primitive idempotents.

Abstract:We examine the pointed protomodular category SKB of left skew braces. We study the notion of commutator of ideals in a left skew brace. Notice that in the literature, "product" of ideals of skew braces is often considered. We show that Huq=Smith for left skew braces. Finally, we give a set of generators for the commutator of two ideals, and prove that every ideal of a left skew brace has a centralizer.

Abstract:Skew bracoids have been shown to have applications in Hopf-Galois theory. We show that a certain family of skew bracoids correspond bijectively with left cancellative semibraces. A consequence of this correspondence is that skew bracoids in this family can be used to obtain and study solutions of the set-theoretic Yang--Baxter equation; we study this process and the resulting solutions. We give numerous examples of skew bracoids satisfying our hypothesis, drawing upon a variety of constructions in the literature.

Abstract:We develop the theory of Schur covers of finite skew braces. We prove the existence of at least one Schur cover. We also compute several examples. We prove that different Schur covers are isoclinic. Finally, we prove that Schur covers have the lifting property concerning projective representations of skew braces.

Abstract:According to Letourmy and Vendramin, a representation of a skew brace is a pair of representations on the same vector space, one for the additive group and the other for the multiplicative group, that satisfies a certain compatibility condition. Following their definition, we shall explain how some of the results from representation theory of groups, such as Maschke's theorem and Clifford's theorem, extend naturally to that of skew braces. We shall also give some concrete examples to illustrate that skew brace representations are more difficult to classify than group representations.

Abstract:For a ring $R$ with an automorphism $\sigma$, an $n$-additive mapping $\Delta:R\times R\times... \times R \rightarrow R$ is called a skew $n$-derivation with respect to $\sigma$ if it is always a $\sigma$-derivation of $R$ for each argument. Namely, it is always a $\sigma$-derivation of $R$ for the argument being left once $n-1$ arguments are fixed by $n-1$ elements in $R$. In this short note, starting from Brešar Theorems, we prove that a skew $n$-derivation ($n\geq 3$) on a semiprime ring $R$ must map into the center of $R$.

Abstract:We study relations between the additive and the multiplicative groups of a two-sided skew brace. In particular, we prove that if the additive group of a two-sided skew brace is finite solvable (respectively, finitely generated nilpotent, finitely generated residually nilpotent, finitely generated residually finite), then the multiplicative group of this skew brace is solvable (respectively, solvable, residually solvable, residually finite). Also, we prove that if the multiplicative group of a two-sided skew brace is nilpotent of nilpotency class k, then the additive group of this skew brace is solvable of class at most 2k. The letter result generalizes the result from [13, Theorem A.9] which says that if the multiplicative group of a finite skew brace is abelian, then the additive group of this skew brace is solvable.In addition, we solve two problems (Problem 19.49 and Problem 19.90(a)) concerning skew braces which are formulated in the Kourovka notebook.
