Abstract:The slow evaporation solution technique (SEST) and slow cooling technique (SCT) were used to grow potassium hydrogen phthalate (KHP) single crystals and nucleation formation was observed using an optical microscope. The crystalline nature along with the cell parameters, crystallite size, dislocation density, and strain were investigated using PXRD. The formation of C 8 H 5 KO 4 was confirmed using FTIR. The UV–visible absorption/transmission, band gap, reflectance, refractive index, and fluorescence investigations show that the generated crystal has a higher optical merit. Microhardness and TG–DTA measurements reveal that the KHP crystals are mechanically and thermally stable for device applications. The low dielectric constant and loss values reported at high-frequency areas imply that these materials are suitable for electro-optical applications. Electrical properties, and electronic parameters such as energy of plasma radiation, energy of fermi function, and electronic polarizability were computed using the Penn gap and Clausius–Mossotti relation. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and etching analysis found that the generated crystal had higher crystalline perfection and fewer defects. The Z-scan method was utilized to investigate the crystal's nonlinear absorption coefficient ( β ), and optical limiting property of KHP.
