Abstract:We present some preliminary results for $B_K$ at $\beta=6.0$, using the twisted mass QCD formalism for the computation of bare matrix elements of the $\Delta S=2$ operator. The main advantage of the method is that mixing with other $d=6$ operators under renormalisation is avoided. Moreover the operator renormalisation is performed in the Schr\"odinger functional (SF) framework, using earlier results of our collaboration for the corresponding step scaling function.

Abstract:We present results for $\varepsilon_K$, the indirect CP violation parameter, calculated in the Standard Model using inputs from lattice QCD: the kaon bag parameter $\hat{B}_K$, and the CKM matrix element $V_{cb}$ from the axial current form factor for the exclusive decay $\bar{B}\to D^*\ell\bar{\nu}$ at zero-recoil. In addition, we take the coordinates of the unitarity triangle apex $(\bar{\rho},\bar{\eta})$ from the angle-only fit of the UTfit Collaboration and use $V_{us}$ to fix $\lambda$. In order to estimate the systematic error, we also use Wolfenstein parameters from the CKMfitter and UTfit. We find a $3.3(2)\sigma$ difference between $\varepsilon_K$ and experiment with exclusive $V_{cb}$. We report details of this preliminary result.
Precise B, B_s and B_c meson spectroscopy from full lattice QCD

Abstract:We give the first accurate results for $B$ and $B_s$ meson masses from lattice QCD including the effect of $u$, $d$ and $s$ sea quarks, and we improve an earlier value for the $B_c$ meson mass. By using the Highly Improved Staggered Quark action for $u/d$, $s$ and $c$ quarks and NRQCD for the $b$ quarks, we are able to achieve an accuracy in the masses of around 10 MeV. Our results are: $m_B$ = 5.291(18) GeV, $m_{B_s}$ = 5.363(11) GeV and $m_{B_c}$ = 6.280(10) GeV. Note that all QCD parameters here are tuned from other calculations, so these are parameter free tests of QCD against experiment. We also give scalar, $B_{s0}^*$, and axial vector, $B_{s1}$, meson masses. We find these to be slightly below threshold for decay to $BK$ and $B^*K$ respectively.

Abstract:We report on studies of three types of B-meson decay that can contribute to an understanding of fundamental intergenerational quark mixing, charge-conjugation--parity violation, and long-distance quantum chromodynamics. Specifically, we discuss a selection of analyses related to the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) parameters Vcb, Vub, alpha, and gamma, and the nonperturbative heavy quark effective theory quantities lambda_1 and lambda_bar. We first describe an examination of the first and second moments of the hadronic-recoil mass and charged-lepton energy spectra in inclusive b -> c l nu decays. We also report on the reconstruction, using similar experimental techniques, of the CKM-suppressed decay B -> rho l nu and the extraction of its branching fraction, Br(B0 -> rho- l+ nu) = (2.57 +- 0.29 +0.33/-0.46 +- 0.41) x 10E-4, as well as the value |Vub| = (3.25 +- 0.14 +0.21/-0.29 +- 0.55) x 10E-3, where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and due to model dependence, respectively. Finally, we present results on rare two-body charmless hadronic B -> K pi, pi pi, and K K decays and comment briefly on their implications to the geometry of the CKM unitarity triangle, including a bound on gamma.

Quark-Hadron Duality Violations and Higher-Order $1/m_b$ Corrections in Inclusive Semileptonic $B$ Decays

Abstract:The theoretical description and data for inclusive semileptonic $B$ decays have reached incredible precision. This motivated us to re-animate the discussion of possible Quark-Hadron Duality violations. There seems that there is currently no evidence of a failure of the Heavy Quark Expansion (HQE) used to compute observables for these decays. However, we might arrive at a point where an asymptotic behaviour of the HQE would limit a further increase of precision. We discuss this possibility and suggest a simple model, which can be used to study the effects of higher orders in the $1/m_b$ expansion and possible quark-hadron duality violations. We devise observables sensitive only to such higher-order effects to test the behaviour of the HQE. Using these observables we obtain a first estimate of possible quark-hadron duality violations using the measured $q^2$ moments.

Abstract:Preliminary results from an extensive lattice calculation of the B, B_c, and \Upsilon spectrum at quenched \beta = 6.0 are presented. The study includes radially and orbitally excited mesons, and baryons containing b quarks. The b quarks are formulated using NRQCD; for light and c quarks, a tadpole-improved clover action is used.

New determination of $|V_{ub}/V_{cb}|$ from $B_s^0\to \lbrace K^-, D_s^- \rbrace μ^+ν$

Abstract:We update the full set of $\bar{B}_s\rightarrow K$ form factors using light-cone sum rules with an on-shell kaon. Our approach determines the relevant sum rule parameters -- the duality thresholds -- from a Bayesian fit for the first time. Using a modified version of the Boyd-Grinstein-Lebed parametrisation, we combine our sum rule results at low momentum transfer $q^2$ with more precise lattice QCD results at large $q^2$. We obtain a consistent description of the form factors in the full $q^2$ range. Applying these results to a recent LHCb measurement of branching ratios for the decays $B_s^0 \to \lbrace K^-, D_s^-\rbrace \mu^+\nu_\mu$, we determine the ratio of Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa elements $$ \notag \left|\frac{V_{ub}}{V_{cb}}\right|_{q^2<7\; \textrm{GeV}^2} = 0.0681\pm 0.0040 \quad \text{and} \quad \left|\frac{V_{ub}}{V_{cb}}\right|_{q^2>7 \;\textrm{GeV}^2} = 0.0801\pm 0.0047 \ , $$ which are mutually compatible at the $1.9\sigma$ level. We further comment on the sensitivity to Beyond the Standard Model effects through measurements of the shape of $B_s^0 \to K^- \mu^+\nu_\mu$ decays, in light of recent limits on such effects from other exclusive $b\to u\ell\nu$ processes.

A non-perturbative determination of $b_{\rm g}$

Abstract:Close to the continuum limit, lattice QCD with mass-degenerate Wilson quarks can be described by Symanzik's effective continuum action, which contains the dimension 5 operator, $m\,{\rm tr}(F_{\mu\nu}F_{\mu\nu})$. Its effect can be eliminated by an O($am_{\rm q}$) rescaling of the bare lattice coupling constant. Until recently, the corresponding improvement coefficient, $b_{\rm g}$, was only known perturbatively to 1-loop order and an estimate of the remaining uncertainty is the dominant systematic error in the ALPHA collaboration's recent determination of $\alpha_s(m_Z)$ with the decoupling method. To remove this error we have determined $b_{\rm g}$ non-perturbatively for the corresponding parameter range. We here briefly review improvement conditions for $b_{\rm g}$, perform a perturbative test and report on our non-perturbative results for $b_{\rm g}$.

Theoretical status of $B \to K^* μ^+μ^-$: The path towards New Physics

Abstract:We summarize the status of the analysis of the 4-body angular distribution $B \to K^*(\to K \pi) \mu^+\mu^-$ using a basis of optimized observables. We provide a New Physics interpretation of the pattern of deviations observed in the 1fb$^{-1}$ dataset with the coefficient of the semileptonic operator $O_9$ being the main responsible for this pattern. Also other scenarios involving more Wilson coefficients are briefly discussed. Further, we present a detailed description of each of the hadronic uncertainties entering our predictions and suggest possible tests for alternative hadronic explanations. Our most accurate SM predictions for the optimized observables in various bins including all uncertainties are also provided.

Abstract:We present an update of our calculation of the form factor for B -> D* l nu at zero recoil, with higher statistics and finer lattices. As before, we use the Fermilab action for b and c quarks, the asqtad staggered action for light valence quarks, and the MILC ensembles for gluons and light quarks (Lüscher-Weisz married to 2+1 rooted staggered sea quarks). In this update, we have reduced the total uncertainty on F(1) from 2.6% to 1.7%. At Lattice2010 we presented a still-blinded result, but this writeup includes the unblinded result from the September 2010 CKM workshop.

QCD parameters and $f_{B_c}$ from heavy quark sum rules

Abstract:We report results of our recent works [1,2] where we where the correlations between the c,b-quark running masses{m}_{c,b}, the gluon condensate<\alpha_s G^2> and the QCD coupling \alpha_s in the MS-scheme from an analysis of the charmonium and bottomium spectra and the B_c-meson mass. We use optimized ratios of relativistic Laplace sum rules (LSR) evaluated at the \mu-subtraction stability point where higher orders PT and D< 6-8-dimensions non-perturbative condensates corrections are included. We obtain [1] \alpha_s(2.85)=0.262(9) and \alpha_s(9.50)=0.180(8) from the (pseudo)scalar M_{\chi_{0c(0b)}}-M_{\eta_{c(b)}} mass-splittings at \mu=2.85(9.50) GeV. The most precise result from the charm channel leads to \alpha_s(M_\tau)=0.318(15) and \alpha_s(M_Z)=0.1183(19)(3) in excellent agreement with the world average: \alpha_s(M_Z)=0.1181(11)[3,4]. Updated results from a global fit of the (axial-)vector and (pseudo)scalar channels using Laplace and Moments sum rules @ N2LO [1] combined with the one from M_{B_c} [2] lead to the new tentative QCD spectral sum rules (QSSR) average : m_c(m_c)|_average= 1266(6) MeV and m_b(m_b)|_average=4196(8) MeV. The values of the gluon condensate <\alpha_s G^2> from the (axial)-vector charmonium channels combined with previous determinations in Table 1, leads to the new QSSR average [1]: <\alpha_s G^2>_average=(6.35\pm 0.35)x 10^{-2} GeV^4. Our results clarify the (apparent) discrepancies between different estimates of <\alpha_s G^2> from J/\psi sum rule but also shows the sensitivity of the sum rules on the choice of the \mu-subtraction scale. As a biproduct, we deduce the B_c-decay constants f_{B_c}=371(17) MeV and f_{B_c}(2S)< 139(6) MeV.

Rare $B$ decays using lattice QCD form factors

Abstract:In this write-up we review and update our recent lattice QCD calculation of $B \to K^*$, $B_s \to \phi$, and $B_s \to K^*$ form factors [<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1310.3722" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1310.3722">arXiv:1310.3722</a>]. These unquenched calculations, performed in the low-recoil kinematic regime, provide a significant improvement over the use of extrapolated light cone sum rule results. The fits presented here include further kinematic constraints and estimates of additional correlations between the different form factor shape parameters. We use these form factors along with Standard Model determinations of Wilson coefficients to give Standard Model predictions for several observables [<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1310.3887" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1310.3887">arXiv:1310.3887</a>]. The modest improvements to the form factor fits lead to improved determinations of $F_L$, the fraction of longitudinally polarized vector mesons, but have little effect on most other observables.

Abstract:Within the framework of perturbative QCD approach based on $\mathbf{k_T}$ factorization, we investigate the charmless decay mode $B \to K_0^*(1430)\phi$. Under two different scenarios (S1 and S2) for the description of scalar meson $K_0^*(1430)$, we explore the branching fractions and related CP asymmetries. Besides the dominant contributions from the factorizable emission diagrams, penguin operators in the annihilation diagrams could also provide considerable contributions. The central values of our predictions are larger than those from the QCD factorization in both scenarios. Compared with the experimental measurements of the BaBar collaboration, the result of neutral channel in the S1 agrees with experimental data, while the result of the charged one is a bit smaller than the data. In the S2 scenario, although the central value for the branching fractions of both channels are much larger than the data, the predictions could agree with the data due to the large uncertainties to the branching fractions from the hadronic input parameters. The CP asymmetry in the charged channel is small and not sensitive to CKM angle $\gamma$. With the accurate data in near future from the various $B$ factories, these predictions will be under stringent tests.
Photo-induced demagnetization and polaron binding energy increase observed by mid-infrared pump-probe spectroscopy in ferromagnetic Ga$_{0.94}$Mn$_{0.06}$As

Abstract:Time-resolved transmittance measurements performed on Ga$_{0.94}$Mn$_{0.06}$As in the vicinity of the Mn-induced mid-infrared absorption band are presented. Upon photo-excitation, a slow increase (hundreds of ps timescale) of the differential transmittance is observed and found to be directly related to demagnetization. The temporal profiles of the transmittance and of the demagnetization measured by time-resolved magneto-optical Kerr spectroscopy are found to coincide. Well below the Curie temperature, the maximum amplitude of the slow component of the differential transmittance as a function of the probe energy is on the rising edge of the linear absorption peak, suggesting that ferromagnetic ordering can be explained by a coupling of the Mn local spins through bound magnetic polarons.

Study of the $B^{-} \to Λ_{c}^{+} \barΛ_{c}^{-} K^{-}$ decay

Abstract:The decay $B^{-} \to \Lambda_{c}^{+} \bar{\Lambda}_{c}^{-} K^{-}$ is studied in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5 $\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ collected by the LHCb experiment. In the $\Lambda_{c}^+ K^{-}$ system, the $\Xi_{c}(2930)^{0}$ state observed at the BaBar and Belle experiments is resolved into two narrower states, $\Xi_{c}(2923)^{0}$ and $\Xi_{c}(2939)^{0}$, whose masses and widths are measured to be $$ m(\Xi_{c}(2923)^{0}) = 2924.5 \pm 0.4 \pm 1.1 \,\mathrm{MeV}, \\ m(\Xi_{c}(2939)^{0}) = 2938.5 \pm 0.9 \pm 2.3 \,\mathrm{MeV}, \\ \Gamma(\Xi_{c}(2923)^{0}) = \phantom{000}4.8 \pm 0.9 \pm 1.5 \,\mathrm{MeV},\\ \Gamma(\Xi_{c}(2939)^{0}) = \phantom{00}11.0 \pm 1.9 \pm 7.5 \,\mathrm{MeV}, $$ where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. The results are consistent with a previous LHCb measurement using a prompt $\Lambda_{c}^{+} K^{-}$ sample. Evidence of a new $\Xi_{c}(2880)^{0}$ state is found with a local significance of $3.8\,\sigma$, whose mass and width are measured to be $2881.8 \pm 3.1 \pm 8.5\,\mathrm{MeV}$ and $12.4 \pm 5.3 \pm 5.8 \,\mathrm{MeV}$, respectively. In addition, evidence of a new decay mode $\Xi_{c}(2790)^{0} \to \Lambda_{c}^{+} K^{-}$ is found with a significance of $3.7\,\sigma$. The relative branching fraction of $B^{-} \to \Lambda_{c}^{+} \bar{\Lambda}_{c}^{-} K^{-}$ with respect to the $B^{-} \to D^{+} D^{-} K^{-}$ decay is measured to be $2.36 \pm 0.11 \pm 0.22 \pm 0.25$, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic and the third originates from the branching fractions of charm hadron decays.

Current status of $\varepsilon_K$ in lattice QCD

Abstract:We present the current status of $\varepsilon_K$ evaluated directly from the standard model using lattice QCD inputs. The lattice QCD inputs include $\hat{B}_K$, $\xi_0$, $\xi_2$, $|V_{us}|$, $m_c(m_c)$, and $|V_{cb}|$. Recently, FLAG has updated $\hat{B}_K$, exclusive $|V_{cb}|$ has been updated with new lattice data in the $\bar{B}\to D\ell\bar{\nu}$ decay mode, and RBC-UKQCD has updated $\xi_0$ and $\xi_2$. We find that the standard model evaluation of $\varepsilon_K$ with exclusive $|V_{cb}|$ (lattice QCD inputs) is $3.2\sigma$ lower than the experimental value, while that with inclusive $|V_{cb}|$ (heavy quark expansion) shows no tension.
High statistics study of in-medium S- and P-wave quarkonium states in lattice Non-relativistic QCD

Abstract:Many measurements of quarkonium suppression at the LHC, e.g. the nuclear modification factor $R_{AA}$ of $J/\Psi$, are well described by a multitude of different models. Thus pinpointing the underlying physics aspects is difficult and guidance based on first principles is needed. Here we present the current status of our ongoing high precision study of in-medium spectral properties of both bottomonium and charmonium based on NRQCD on the lattice. This effective field theory allows us to capture the physics of quarkonium without modeling assumptions in a thermal QCD medium. In our study a first principles and realistic description of the QCD medium is provided by state-of-the-art lattices of the HotQCD collaboration at almost physical pion mass. Our updated results corroborate a picture of sequential modification of states with respect to their vacuum binding energy. Using a novel low-gain variant of the Bayesian BR method for reconstructing spectral functions we find that remnant features of the Upsilon may survive up to $T\sim400$MeV, while the $\chi_b$ signal disappears around $T\sim270$MeV. The $c\bar{c}$ analysis hints at melting of $\chi_c$ below $T\sim190$MeV while some $J/\Psi$ remnant feature might survive up to $T\sim245$MeV. An improved understanding of the numerical artifacts in the Bayesian approach and the availability of increased statistics have made possible a first quantitative study of the in-medium ground state masses, which tend to lower values as $T$ increases, consistent with lattice potential based studies.

Abstract:We present the Standard Model evaluation of the indirect CP violation parameter $\varepsilon_K$ using inputs determined from lattice QCD together with experiment: $|V_{us}|$, $|V_{cb}|$, $\xi_0$, and $\hat{B}_K$. We use the Wolfenstein parametrization ($|V_{cb}|$, $\lambda$, $\bar{\rho}$, $\bar{\eta}$) for the CKM matrix elements. For the central value, we take the angle-only fit of the UTfit collaboration, and use $|V_{us}|$ from the $K_{\ell 3}$ and $K_{\mu 2}$ decays as an independent input to fix $\lambda$. For the error estimate, we use results of the global unitarity triangle fits from the CKMfitter and UTfit collaborations. We find that the Standard Model (SM) prediction of $\varepsilon_K$ with exclusive $V_{cb}$ (lattice QCD results) is lower than the experimental value by $3.6(2)\sigma$. However, with inclusive $V_{cb}$ (results of the heavy quark expansion), the tension between the SM prediction of $\varepsilon_K$ and its experimental value disappears.
