Abstract:We analyze the dynamics of dissipation and relaxation in the unbroken and broken symmetry phases of scalar theory in the nonlinear regime for large initial energy densities, and after linear unstabilities (parametric or spinodal) are shut-off by the quantum backreaction. A new time scale emerges that separates the linear from the non-linear regimes. This scale is non- perturbative in the coupling and initial amplitude. The non-perturbative evolution is studied in the large the N limit for the O(N) vector model. A combination of numerical analysis and the multitime scale analysis reveals the presence of unstable bands in the nonlinear regime. These are associated with power law growth of quantum fluctuations, that result in power law relaxation and dissipation with non-universal and non-perturbative dynamical anomalous <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://exponents.We" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a> find substantial particle production during this non-linear evolu- tion which is of the same order as that in the linear regime. The expectation value of the scalar field vanishes asymptotically transferring all of the initial energy into produced particles via the non-linear resonances in the unbroken symmetry <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://phase.The" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a> effective mass for the quantum modes tends asympto- tically to a constant plus oscillating O(1/t) terms. This slow decay causes the power behaviour in the modes which become free for t=infty. We derive a simple expression for the equation of state for the fluid of produced particles that interpolates between radiation-type and dust-type equations according to the initial value of the order parameter for unbroken symmetry. For broken symmetry the produced particles are massless Goldstone bosons with a radiation-type equation of state. We find the onset of a novel form of dynamical Bose condensation in the collisionless regime in the absence of thermalization.

Quantum Approach to Bound States in Field Theory

Abstract:It is well known that (possibly non-unique) suitable field dynamics can be prescribed in spacetimes with timelike boundaries by means of appropriate boundary conditions. In Ref. [J. Math. Phys. {\bf 21}, 2802 (1980)], Wald derived a conserved energy functional for each prescribed dynamics. This conserved energy is related to the positive self-adjoint extensions of the spatial part $A$ of the wave equation $\partial^2\Phi/\partial t^2=-A\Phi$ ($A$ may not be, in principle, essentially self-adjoint). This is quite surprising since the canonical energy is not conserved in these cases. In this paper, we rederive this energy functional from an action principle (with appropriate boundary terms) following Ref. [Phys. Rev. D, {\bf 69}, 085005, (2004)] and consider field dynamics arising from non-positive self-adjoint extensions of $A$. The spectrum of the resulting theory fails to be positive and unstable mode solutions for classical fields come to light. By studying fields in half-Minkowski spacetime, we illustrate that these unstable classical solutions come as a consequence of an inverted parabolic potential governing their dynamics. From the quantum mechanical point of view, this leads to an effective inverted harmonic oscillator at the boundary. We then explore these unstable modes behavior, as well as their instabilities, at the quantum level.

Evolution of strictly localized states in non-interacting quantum field theories with background fields

Abstract:We investigate the construction of spin-1/2 fermionic and spin-0 bosonic wave-packets having compact spatial support in the framework of a computational quantum field theory (QFT) scheme offering space-time solutions of the relativistic wave equations in background fields. In order to construct perfectly localized wave-packets, we introduce a spatial density operator accounting for particles of both positive and negative charge. We examine properties of the vacuum and single-particle expectation values of this operator and compare them to the standard QFT particle and anti-particle spatial densities. The formalism is illustrated by computing numerically the Klein tunneling dynamics of strictly localized wave-packets impinging on a supercritical electrostatic step. The density operator introduced here could be useful to model situations in which it is desirable to avoid dealing with the infinite spatial tails intrinsic to pure particle or anti-particle wave-packets.

Thermalization and localization in a discretized quantum field theory

Abstract:Localization marks the breakdown of thermalization in subregions of quantum many-body systems in the presence of sufficiently large disorder. In this paper, we use numerical techniques to study thermalization and localization in a many-body system of coupled quantum harmonic oscillators obtained by discretizing a scalar quantum field theory in Minkowski spacetime. We consider a Gaussian initial state, constructed through a global mass quench, with a quadratic Hamiltonian, and solve for the system's exact dynamics without and with disorder in one and two spatial dimensions. We find that finite-size systems localize for sufficiently large disorder in both cases, such that the entanglement entropy of subregions retains its initial area-law behavior, and the system no longer develops long-range correlations. To probe the thermalization-to-localization transition further, we define a frequency gap ratio that measures adjacent gaps in the phase space eigenvalues of the Hamiltonian and study how it varies with disorder strength and system size. We find signatures of a chaotic regime at intermediate disorder in two spatial dimensions and argue that it is a finite-size effect, such that the system would localize for arbitrarily small disorder in the continuum in both one and two spatial dimensions, consistent with Anderson localization. Lastly, we use the frequency gap ratio to argue that in three spatial dimensions, on the other hand, the system would only localize for disorder strengths above a critical value in the continuum, again consistent with Anderson localization.

Abstract:The goal of this article is to investigate the dynamics of semi-relativistic or non-relativistic charged particles in interaction with a scalar meson field. Our main contribution is the derivation of the classical dynamics of a particle-field system as an effective equation of the quantum microscopic Nelson model, in the classical limit where the value of the Planck constant approaches zero ($\hbar\to 0$). Thus, we prove the validity of Bohr's correspondence principle, that is to establish the transition from quantum to classical dynamics. We use a Wigner measure approach to study such transition. Then, as a consequence of this interplay between classical and quantum dynamics, we establish the global well-posedness of the classical particle-field interacting system, despite the low regularity of the related vector field, which prevents the use of a fixed point argument.

Abstract:The physics of long-range interacting quantum systems is currently living through a renaissance driven by the fast progress in quantum simulators. In these systems many paradigms of statistical physics do not apply and also the universal long-wavelength physics gets substantially modified by the presence of long-ranged forces. Here we explore the low-energy excitations of several long-range interacting quantum systems, including spin models and interacting Bose gases, in the ordered phase associated with the spontaneous breaking of U(1) and SU(2) symmetries. Instead of the expected Goldstone modes, we find three qualitatively different regimes, depending on the range of the interaction. In one of these regimes the Goldstone modes are gapped, via a generalization of the Higgs mechanism. Moreover, we show how this effect is realized in current experiments with ultracold atomic gases in optical cavities.

Abstract:In this paper, the Quantum Brownian motion of a point particle induced by the quantum vacuum fluctuations of a real massless scalar field in Einstein universe under Dirichlet and Neumann boundary conditions is studied. Using the Wightman functions, general expressions for the renormalized dispersion of the physical momentum are derived. Distinct expressions are found for the dispersion associated with each component of the particle physical momentum, indicating that the global properties of homogeneity and isotropy of space are lost, as a consequence of the introduced boundary conditions. Divergences also arise and are related to the compact nature of Einstein universe and the introduced boundary conditions.

Abstract:We aim to construct from first principles a perturbative framework for studying nonequilibrium quantum-field systems that include massless Dirac fermions. The system of our concern is quasiuniform system near equilibrium or nonequilibrium quasistationary system. We employ the closed-time-path formalism and use the so-called gradient approximation. Essentially no further approximation is introduced. We construct a fermion propagator, with which a well-defined perturbative framework is formulated. In the course of construction of the framework, we obtain the generalized Boltzmann equation (GBE) that describes the evolution of the number-density functions of (anti)fermionic quasiparticles.

Dynamical Renormalization Group Approach to Quantum Kinetics in Scalar and Gauge Theories

Abstract:We derive quantum kinetic equations from a quantum field theory implementing a diagrammatic perturbative expansion improved by a resummation via the dynamical renormalization group. The method begins by obtaining the equation of motion of the distribution function in perturbation theory. The solution of this equation of motion reveals secular terms that grow in time, the dynamical renormalization group resums these secular terms in real time and leads directly to the quantum kinetic equation. We used this method to study the relaxation in a cool gas of pions and sigma mesons in the O(4) chiral linear sigma model. We obtain in relaxation time approximation the pion and sigma meson relaxation rates. We also find that in large momentum limit emission and absorption of massless pions result in threshold infrared divergence in sigma meson relaxation rate and lead to a crossover behavior in relaxation. We then study the relaxation of charged quasiparticles in scalar electrodynamics (SQED). While longitudinal, Debye screened photons lead to purely exponential relaxation, transverse photons, only dynamically screened by Landau damping lead to anomalous relaxation, thus leading to a crossover between two different relaxational regimes. We emphasize that infrared divergent damping rates are indicative of non-exponential relaxation and the dynamical renormalization group reveals the correct relaxation directly in real time. Finally we also show that this method provides a natural framework to interpret and resolve the issue of pinch singularities out of equilibrium and establish a direct correspondence between pinch singularities and secular terms. We argue that this method is particularly well suited to study quantum kinetics and transport in gauge theories.

Abstract:Successful applications of a conceptually novel setup of Quantum Field Theory, that accounts for all subtheories of the Standard Model (QED, Electroweak Interaction and Higgs, Yang–Mills and QCD) and beyond (Helicity 2), call for a perspective view in a broader conceptual context. The setting is "autonomous" in the sense of being intrinsically quantum. Its principles are: Hilbert space, Poincaré symmetry and causality. Its free quantum fields are obtained from Wigner's unitary representations of the Poincaré group, with only physical and observable degrees of freedom. A "quantization" of an "underlying" classical theory is not needed. It allows renormalizable perturbation theory with interactions whose detailed structure, and in some cases even the particle content, is predicted by internal consistency. The results confirm and extend observable predictions for the interactions of the Standard Model without assuming a "principle" of gauge invariance.

A global evaluation criterion for feature selection in text categorization using Kullback-Leibler divergence

Abstract:A major difficulty of text categorization is extremely high dimensionality of text feature space. The use of feature selection techniques for large-scale text categorization task is desired for improving the accuracy and efficiency. χ2 statistic and simplified χ2 are two effective feature selection methods in text categorization. Using these two feature selection criteria, for a term, one needs to compute the local scores of the term over each category and usually takes the maximum or average value of these scores as the global term-goodness criterion. But there is no explicit explanation on how to choose maximum or average; moreover, these two operations can not reflect the degree of scatter of a term over all categories. In this paper, we propose a new global feature evaluation criterion based on Kullback-Leibler (KL) divergence for choosing informative terms since KL divergence is a widely used method to measure the differences of distributions between two categories. We conduct experiments on Reuters-21578 corpus with k-NN classifier to test the performance of the proposed method. The experimental results show that this method enhances the performance of text categorization. The novel method is similar or better than previous maximum and average on either Macro-F1 or Micro-F1.
Entanglement and localization in long-range quadratic Lindbladians

Abstract:Existence of Anderson localization is considered a manifestation of coherence of classical and quantum waves in disordered systems. Signatures of localization have been observed in condensed matter and cold atomic systems where the coupling to the environment can be significantly suppressed but not eliminated. In this work we explore the phenomena of localization in random Lindbladian dynamics describing open quantum systems. We propose a model of one-dimensional chain of non-interacting, spinless fermions coupled to a local ensemble of baths. The jump operator mediating the interaction with the bath linked to each site has a power-law tail with an exponent $p$. We show that the steady state of the system undergoes a localization entanglement phase transition by tuning $p$ which remains stable in the presence of coherent hopping. Unlike the entanglement transition in the quantum trajectories of open systems, this transition is exhibited by the averaged steady state density matrix of the Lindbladian. The steady state in the localized phase is characterised by a heterogeneity in local population imbalance, while the jump operators exhibit a constant participation ratio of the sites they affect. Our work provides a novel realisation of localization physics in open quantum systems.

Abstract:We modify the propagation for the quarks and gluons, with that we have finite results, without ultra violet divergence in perturbed interaction of the quarks and gluons, this makes it easily for the interaction renormalization, like the self energy. Then we search for a way to remove our modification, with fixing the Lagrange parameters. so we can ignore our modification. We relate the modification to interaction situation, this is, we need it only for interaction renormalization. we see for the free the modification is removed. then We try to give the modification terms modification physical aspects, for this we see the corresponding terms in the Lagrange. To do that we find the role of those terms in the Feynman diagrams, in self energies, quarks gluons vertex. We see we can relate the propagation modification to fields dual behavior, pairing particle with antiparticle appears as scalar particles with high mass. For the quarks we can interrupt these particles as pions.

Abstract:We generalize the two-channel (Edwards) fermion-boson model describing quantum transport in a background medium to the more realistic case of dispersive bosons. Using the variational exact diagonalization technique, we numerically solve the extended model in a one-dimensional setting, for both downward and upward curved boson dispersion, and show that going away from the previous Einstein-boson assumption has profound consequences for the particle transport. Specifically, we analyze the ground-state and spectral properties and demonstrate the renormalization of the particle's coherent band, effective mass, photoemission spectra and fermion-boson correlation functions due to the interplay of fluctuations and correlations in a dispersive environment.

Field Theory Approach to Classical $N$-Particle Systems In and Out of Equilibrium

Abstract:We present an approach to solving the evolution of a classical $N$-particle ensemble based on the path integral approach to classical mechanics. This formulation provides a perturbative solution to the Liouville equation in terms of a propagator which can be expanded in a Dyson series. We show that this perturbative expansion exactly corresponds to an iterative solution of the BBGKY-hierarchy in orders of the interaction potential. Using the path integral formulation, we perform a Hubbard-Stratonovich transformation (HST) to obtain an effective field theoretic description in terms of macroscopic fields, which contains the full microscopic dynamics of the system in its vertices. Naturally, the HST leads to a new perturbative expansion scheme which contains an infinite order of microscopic interactions already at the lowest order of the perturbative expansion. Our approach can be applied to in and out of equilibrium systems with arbitrary interaction potentials and initial conditions. We show how (unequal-time) cumulants of the Klimontovich phase space densities can be computed within this framework and derive results for density and momentum correlations for a spatially homogeneous system. Under the explicit assumptions for the interaction potential and initial conditions, we show that well-known results related to plasma oscillations and the Jeans instability criterion for gravitational collapse can be recovered in the lowest order perturbative expansion and that both are the effect of the same collective behaviour of the many-body system.

Abstract:The Brownian motion of a point particle induced by quantum vacuum fluctuations of a massless real scalar field in Einstein's universe is studied. By assuming the small displacement condition, the dispersion in the momentum and position of a point particle coupled to the massless scalar field are obtained. As a consequence of the homogeneity and isotropy properties of the Einstein's Universe, we find that all components of these physical observables are identical. We also examine divergent behaviors associated with the physical momentum and position dispersions, which we attribute to the IR S compact topology of Einstein's universe. Finally, based on the small displacement condition assumed, we analyze the limit of validity of our investigation.

Abstract:This is a non-standard exposition of the main notions of quantum mechanics and quantum field theory including some recent results. It is based on the algebraic approach where the starting point is a star-algebra and on the geometric approach where the starting point is a convex set of states. Standard formulas for quantum probabilities are derived from decoherence. This derivation allows us to go beyond quantum theory in the geometric approach. Particles are defined as elementary excitations of the ground state (and quasiparticles as elementary excitations of any translation invariant state). The conventional scattering matrix does not work for quasiparticles (and even for particles if the theory does not have particle interpretation). The analysis of scattering in these cases is based on the notion of inclusive scattering matrix, closely related to inclusive cross-sections. It is proven that the conventional scattering matrix can be expressed in terms of Green functions (LSZ formula) and the inclusive scattering matrix can be expressed in terms of generalized Green functions that appear in the Keldysh formalism of non-equilibrium statistical physics. The derivation of the expression of the evolution operator and other physical quantities in terms of functional integrals is based on the notion of the symbol of an operator; these arguments can be applied also in the geometric approach. The notion of inclusive scattering matrix makes sense in the geometric approach (but it seems that one cannot give a definition of the conventional scattering matrix in this situation). The geometric approach is used to show that quantum mechanics and its generalizations can be considered as classical theories where our devices can measure only a part of observables.

Quantum dissipation in a scalar field theory with gapped momentum states

Abstract:Understanding quantum dissipation is important from both theoretical perspective and applications. Here, we show how to describe dissipation in a scalar field theory. We treat dissipation non-perturbatively, represent it by a bilinear term in the Lagrangian and quantize the theory. We find that dissipation promotes a gap in momentum space and reduces the particle energy. As a result, particle mass becomes dressed by dissipation due to self-interaction. The underlying mechanism is similar to that governing the propagation of transverse collective modes in liquids. We discuss the interplay between the dissipative and mass terms, the associated different regimes of field dynamics and the emergence of ultraviolet and infrared cutoffs due to dissipation.

Abstract:We study the Euclidean effective action and the full fermion propagator for a Dirac field in the presence of a scalar field with a domain wall defect, in 2+1 dimensions. We include quantum effects due to both fermion and scalar field fluctuations, in a one-loop approximation. The results are interpreted in terms of the quantum stability of the zero mode solution. We also study, for this system, the induced `inertial' electric field for the fermions on the defect, due to the quantum fluctuations of the scalar field.

Abstract:We undertake a thorough investigation into the phenomenology of quantum eigenstates, in the three-particle Fermi-Pasta-Ulam-Tsingou model. Employing different Husimi functions, our study focuses on both the α -type, which is canonically equivalent to the celebrated Hénon-Heiles Hamiltonian, a nonintegrable and mixed-type system, and the general case at the saddle energy where the system is fully chaotic. Based on Husimi quantum surface of sections, we find that in the mixed-type system, the fraction of mixed eigenstates in an energy shell [E−δE/2,E+δE/2] with δE≪E shows a power-law decay with respect to the decreasing Planck constant ħ . Defining the localization measures in terms of the Rényi-Wehrl entropy, in both the mixed-type and fully chaotic systems, we find a better fit with the β distribution and a lesser degree of localization, in the distribution of localization measures of chaotic eigenstates, as the controlling ratio αL=tH/tT between the Heisenberg time tH and the classical transport time tT increases. This transition with respect to αL and the power-law decay of the mixed states, together provide supporting evidence for the principle of uniform semiclassical condensation in the semiclassical limit. Moreover, we find that in the general case which is fully chaotic, the maximally localized state, is influenced by the stable and unstable manifold of the saddles (hyperbolic fixed points), while the maximally extended state notably avoids these points, extending across the remaining space, complementing each other. https://doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevE.109.054211 ©2024 American Physical Society
