Abstract:A one-dimensional model for two-band SU(2) bosons with isospin exchange interaction is solved by means of the nested Bethe-ansatz method. The features of the ground state and low-lying excitation state are discussed explicitly by numerical and analytical method. The thermodynamics of the system is analyzed by means of the thermodynamic Bethe-ansatz method, and some physical quantities, such as magnetization, specific heat, etc. are obtained explicitly in some special cases.

Abstract:A unified method to construct the (multi-)boson realizations of the Lie and quantum algebras is proposed based on a universal deformation of bosom (Heisenberg-Weyl) algebra and its multiboson realization. Some explicit examples, the Lie algebras sl (2) and su (1,1), q-boson algebra, quantum algebras sl (2)(q) and su(1,1)(q), along with the q-ladder algebra are studied in detail. In particular, the square bosom realizations of su (1,1) and su (1,1)(q) are naturally obtained as special cases.

Abstract:The Su–Schrieffer–Heeger (SSH) model perhaps is the easiest and the most basic model for topological excitations. Many variations and extensions of the SSH model have been proposed and explored to better understand both fundamental and novel aspects of topological physics. The SSH4 model has been proposed theoretically as an extended SSH model with higher dimension (the internal dimension changes from two to four). It has been proposed that the winding number in this system can be determined through a higher-dimensional extension of the mean chiral displacement measurement, however, this has not yet been verified in experiment. Here, we report the realization of this model with ultracold atoms in a momentum lattice. We verify the winding number through measurement of the mean chiral displacement in a system with higher internal dimension, we map out the topological phase transition in this system, and we confirm the topological edge state by observation of the quench dynamics when atoms are initially prepared at the system boundary.

Abstract:By generalizing the Holstein-Primakoff realization and the Dyson realization of the Lie algebra SU(2), various realizations of the deformed angular momentum algebra $\mathcal{R}_{q,s}^{c_0 ,c_1 ,c_2 } $, a five-parameter deformed SU(2) by combining Witten’s two deformation schemes, are investigated in terms of the single boson and the single inversion boson respectively. For each kind, the unitary realization, the non-unitary realization, and their connection by the corresponding similarity transformation are respectively discussed.

Abstract:On the basis of Bethe ansatz solution of two-component bosons with SU(2) symmetry and δ-function interaction in one dimension, we study the thermodynamics of the system at finite temperature by using the strategy of thermodynamic Bethe ansatz (TBA). It is shown that the ground state is an isospin "ferromagnetic" state by the method of TBA, and at high temperature the magnetic property is dominated by Curie's law. We obtain the exact result of specific heat and entropy in strong coupling limit which scales like T at low temperature. While in weak coupling limit, it is found there is still no Bose-Einstein Condensation (BEC) in such 1D system.

Abstract:The generalized quantum double lattice realization of 2d topological orders based on Hopf algebras is discussed in this work. Both left-module and right-module constructions are investigated. The ribbon operators and the classification of topological excitations based on the representations of the quantum double of Hopf algebras are discussed. To generalize the model to a 2d surface with boundaries and surface defects, we present a systematic construction of the boundary Hamiltonian and domain wall Hamiltonian. The algebraic data behind the gapped boundary and domain wall are comodule algebras and bicomodule algebras. The topological excitations in the boundary and domain wall are classified by bimodules over these algebras. The ribbon operator realization of boundary-bulk duality is also discussed. Finally, via the Hopf tensor network representation of the quantum many-body states, we solve the ground state of the model in the presence of the boundary and domain wall.

Bosonization of 2+1 dimensional fermions on the surface of topological insulators

Abstract:Three-dimensional topological insulators can be described by an effective field theory involving two `hydrodynamic' Abelian gauge fields. The action contains a bulk topological BF term and a surface term, called loop model. This describes the massless 2+1 dimensional excitations and provides them with a semiclassical, yet non-trivial conformal invariant dynamics. Given that topological insulators are originally fermionic, this physical setting is ideal for realizing the bosonization of massless fermions in terms of gauge fields. Building on earlier analyses of the loop model, we find that fermions belong to the solitonic spectrum and can be described by Wilson lines, through the generalization of 1+1 dimensional vertex operators. Their correlation functions agree with conformal invariance. The bosonic loop model is then mapped into a fermionic theory by using the general construction of fermionic topological phases described in the literature. It requires the identification of the characteristic one-form $Z_2$ symmetry of the bosonic theory and its gauging, which originates the fermion number $(-1)^F$, the spin sectors and the time reversal symmetry obeying ${\cal T}^2=(-1)^F$. These results are detailed for the effective action and the partition function on the geometry $S^2\times S^1$.

Bulk-boundary correspondence in extended trimer Su-Schrieffer-Heeger model

Abstract:We consider an extended trimer Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) tight-binding Hamiltonian keeping up to next-nearest-neighbor (NNN) hopping terms and on-site potential energy. The Bloch Hamiltonian can be expressed in terms of all the eight generators (i.e. Gell-Mann matrices) of the SU(3) group. We provide exact analytical expressions of three dispersive energy bands and the corresponding eigenstates for any choices of the system parameters. The system lacks full chiral symmetry since the energy spectrum is not symmetric around zero, except at isolated Bloch wavevectors. We explore parity, time reversal, and certain special chiral symmetries for various system parameters. We discuss the bulk-boundary correspondence by numerically computing the Zak phase for all the bands and the boundary modes in the open boundary condition. There are three different kinds of topological phase transitions, which are classified based on the gap closing points in the Brillouin zone (BZ) while tuning the nearest-neighbor (NN) and NNN hopping terms. We find that quantized changes (in units of $\pi$) in two out of three Zak phases characterize these topological phase transitions. We propose another bulk topological invariant, namely the {\it sub-lattice winding number}, which also characterizes the topological phase transitions changing from $ \nu^{\alpha} = 0 \leftrightarrow 2 $ and $ \nu^{\alpha} = 0 \leftrightarrow 1 \leftrightarrow 2 $ ($\alpha $: sub-lattice index). The sub-lattice winding number not only provides a relatively simple analytical understanding of topological phases but also successfully establishes bulk-boundary correspondence in the absence of inversion symmetry, which may help in characterizing the bulk-boundary correspondence of systems without chiral and inversion symmetry.

Bosonic orbital Su-Schrieffer-Heeger model in a lattice of rings

Abstract:We study the topological properties of interacting and non-interacting bosons loaded in the orbital angular momentum states $l=1$ in a lattice of rings with alternating distances. At the single-particle level, the two circulation states within each site lead to two decoupled Su-Schrieffer-Heeger lattices with correlated topological phases. We characterize the topological configuration of these lattices in terms of the alternating distances, as well as their single-particle spectrum and topologically protected edge states. Secondly, we add on-site interactions for the two-boson case, which lead to the appearance of multiple bound states and edge bound states. We investigate the doublon bands in terms of a strong-link model and we analyze the resulting subspaces using perturbation theory in the limit of strong interactions. All analytical results are benchmarked against exact diagonalization simulations.

Abstract:In this paper two kinds of two-boson realizations of generally deformed algebras with three generators are obtained by generalizing the Jordan-Schwinger realizations of SU(2) and SU(1,1). For each kind, a. unitary realization and a non-unitary realization, together with the properties of their acting spaces, are discussed. Similarity transformations that relate tile non-unitary realizations to tile unitary ones are given by solving unitarization equations.

Abstract:We revisit the two dimensional non-Abelian Thirring model in order to investigate its fixed point structure and the corresponding renormalization group (RG) flow. For this purpose we discuss the bosonization of the model, and we present different, but of course equivalent, bosonic versions of the theory. The bosonic theories are illuminating in that they exhibit the fixed points in a manifest way, and also possess a remarkable strong/weak duality that sheds light on the fixed point structure of the theory. We study the RG flow through the computation of the Zamolodchikov $C$-function and of the $\beta$-function in the large-level limit. Within this framework, we discuss how close to the infrared fixed point the RG flow can reach, since this point is strictly unachievable due to an emergent gauge invariance.

Abstract:The su(2)-algebraic many-fermion model is formulated so as to be able to get the unified understanding of the structures of three simple models: the single-level pairing, the isoscalar proton-neutron pairing and the two-level Lipkin model. Basic idea is to introduce an auxiliary su(2)-algebra, any generator of which commutes with any generator of the starting su(2)-algebra. With the aid of this algebra, the minimum weight states are completely determined in a simple forms. Further, concerning the two algebras, boson realization is presented. Through this formulation, the behavior of the total fermion in the Lipkin model is notably different of those in the other two models. As supplementary problem, the boson-fermion realization and the Lipkin model in the isovector pairing model are investigated.

Abstract:Integral formulae for form factors of a large family of charged local operators in SU(2) invariant Thirring model are given extending Smirnov's construction of form factors of chargeless local operators in the sine-Gordon model. New abelian symmetry acting on this family of local operators is found. It creates Lukyanov's operators which are not in the above family of local operators in general.

Abstract:We study descendants of inhomogeneous vertex models with boundary reflections when the spin-spin scattering is assumed to be quasi--classical. This corresponds to consider certain power expansion of the boundary-Yang-Baxter equation (or reflection equation). As final product, integrable $su(2)$-spin chains interacting with a long range with $XXZ$ anisotropy are obtained. The spin-spin couplings are non uniform, and a non uniform tunable external magnetic field is applied; the latter can be obtained when the boundary conditions are assumed to be quasi-classical as well. The exact spectrum is achieved by algebraic Bethe ansatz. Having realized the $su(2)$ operators in terms of fermions, the class of models we found turns out to describe confined fermions with pairing force interactions. The class of models presented in this paper is a one-parameter extension of certain Hamiltonians constructed previously. Extensions to $su(n)$-spin open chains are discussed.

Emergence of non-Abelian SU(2) invariance in Abelian frustrated fermionic ladders

Abstract:We consider a system of interacting spinless fermions on a two-leg triangular ladder with $\pi/2$ magnetic flux per triangular plaquette. Microscopically, the system exhibits a U(1) symmetry corresponding to the conservation of total fermionic charge, and a discrete $\mathbb{Z}_2$ symmetry -- a product of parity transformation and chain permutation. Using bosonization, we show that, in the low-energy limit, the system is described by the quantum double-frequency sine-Gordon model. On the basis of this correspondence, a rich phase diagram of the system is obtained. It includes trivial and topological band insulators for weak interactions, separated by a Gaussian critical line, whereas at larger interactions a strongly correlated phase with spontaneously broken $\mathbb{Z}_2$ symmetry sets in, exhibiting a net charge imbalance and non-zero total current. At the intersection of the three phases, the system features a critical point with an emergent SU(2) symmetry. This non-Abelian symmetry, absent in the microscopic description, is realized at low-energies as a combined effect of the magnetic flux, frustration, and many-body correlations. The criticality belongs to the SU(2)$_1$ Wess-Zumino-Novikov-Witten universality class. The critical point bifurcates into two Ising critical lines that separate the band insulators from the strong-coupling symmetry broken phase. We establish an analytical connection between the low-energy description of our model around the critical bifurcation point on one hand, and the Ashkin-Teller model and a weakly dimerized XXZ spin-1/2 chain on the other. We complement our field-theory understanding via tensor network simulations, providing compelling quantitative evidences of all bosonization predictions. Our findings are of interest to up-to-date cold atom experiments utilizing Rydberg dressing, that have already demonstrated correlated ladder dynamics.

Abstract:In this paper two kinds of two-boson realizations of the polynomial angular momentum algebra are obtained by generalizing the well known Jordan-Schwinger realizations of the SU(2) and SU(1,1) algebras. Especially, for the Higgs algebra, an unitary realization and two nonunitary realizations, together with the properties of their respective acting spaces are discussed in detail. Furthermore, similarity transformations, which connect the nonunitary realizations with the unitary ones, are gained by solving the corresponding unitarization equations. As applications, the dynamical symmetry of the Kepler system in a two-dimensional curved space is studied and phase operators of the Higgs algebra are constructed.
Notes on Integrable Boundary Interactions of Open $SU(4)$ Alternating Spin Chains

Abstract:In <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1704.05807" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1704.05807">arXiv:1704.05807</a>, it was shown that the planar flavored ABJM theory is integrable in the scalar sector at two-loop order using coordinate Bethe ansatz. A salient feature of this case is that the boundary reflection matrices are anti-diagonal with respect to the chosen basis. In this paper, we relax the coefficients of the boundary terms to be general constants in order to search for integrable systems among this class. We found that at each end of the spin chain, the only integrable boundary interaction, besides the one in <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1704.05807" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1704.05807">arXiv:1704.05807</a>, is the one with vanishing boundary interactions leading to diagonal reflection matrices. We also construct non-supersymmetric plannar flavored ABJM theory which leads to trivial boundary interaction at both ends of the open chain from two-loop anomalous dimension matrix in the scalar sector.

Abstract:A general free bosonic system with a pairing term is described by a bosonic Bogoliubov-de Gennes (BdG) Hamiltonian. The representation is given by a pseudo-Hermitian matrix, which is crucially different from the Hermitian representation of a fermionic BdG Hamiltonian. In fermionic BdG systems, a topological invariant of the whole particle (hole) bands can be nontrivial, which characterizes the Andreev bound states (ABS) including Majorana fermions. In bosonic cases, on the other hand, the corresponding topological invariant is thought to be trivial owing to the stability condition of the bosonic ground state. In this Letter, we consider a two-dimensional model that realizes a bosonic analogy of the ABS. The boundary states of this model are located outside the bulk bands and are characterized by a nontrivial Berry phase (or polarization) of the hole band. Furthermore, we investigate the zero-energy flat-band limit in which the Bloch Hamiltonian is defective, where the particle and hole states are identical to each other. In this limit, the Berry phase is $\mathbb{Z}_2$ quantized thanks to an emergent parity-time symmetry. This is an example of a topological invariant that uses the defective nature as a projection structure. Thus, boundary states in our model are essentially different from Hermitian topological modes and their variants.
