Abstract:We construct a supersymmetric model based on T-'circle times Z(3)circle times Z(9) flavor symmetry. At the leading order, the charged lepton mass matrix is not diagonal, T-' is broken completely, and the hierarchy in the charged lepton masses is generated naturally. Nearly tribimaximal mixing is predicted, and subleading effects induce corrections of order lambda(2), where lambda is the Cabibbo angle. Both the up quark and down quark mass matrices' textures of the well-known U(2) flavor theory are produced at the leading order; realistic hierarchies in quark masses and Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix elements are obtained. The vacuum alignment and subleading corrections are discussed in detail.

Abstract:Despite the remarkable success of the Standard Model, the hierarchy and patterns of fermion masses and mixings remain a profound mystery. To address this, we propose a model employing the rank mechanism, where the originally massless quarks and leptons sequentially get masses. The third-generation masses originate from the seesaw mechanism at the tree level, while those of the second and first generations emerge from one-loop and two-loop radiative corrections, respectively, with a progressive increase in the rank of the mass matrix. This approach does not require new discrete or global symmetries. Unlike other theories of this type that require the introduction of additional scalars, we employ the double seesaw mechanism within a left-right symmetric framework, which allows us to realize this scenario solely through gauge interactions.

Naturally Light Dirac and Pseudo-Dirac Neutrinos from Left-Right Symmetry

Abstract:Abstract We develop a class of left-right symmetric theories based on the gauge group SU(3) c × SU(2) L × SU(2) R × U(1) with a generalized seesaw mechanism for generating the charged fermion masses. Neutrinos are naturally Dirac particles in this setup with their small masses arising from two-loop quantum corrections. We evaluate these two-loop diagrams exactly and analyze the flavor structure of the lepton sector. We find excellent fits to neutrino oscillation data, independent of the right-handed gauge symmetry breaking scale. We also explore the possibility that neutrinos are pseudo-Dirac particles in this framework, with the tiny mass splittings between active and sterile neutrinos arising from Planck-induced corrections and find possible realizations. These models can be tested in the near future with precision cosmological measurements of ∆N eff in CMB which is predicted to be ≃ 0.14. This class of models allows for a solution to the strong CP problem via parity symmetry without the need for an axion.

Abstract:We propose a supersymmetric (SUSY) SU(5) Grand Unified Theory (GUT) including a single right-handed neutrino singlet and an adjoint matter representation below the GUT scale and extend this model to include an A4 family symmetry and a gauged anomaly-free Abelian group. In our approach hierarchical neutrino masses result from a combined type I and type III seesaw mechanism, and the A4 symmetry leads to tri-bimaximal mixing which arises indirectly. The mixing between the single right-handed neutrino and the matter in the adjoint is forbidden by excluding an adjoint Higgs, leading to a diagonal heavy Majorana sector as required by constrained sequential dominance. The model also reproduces a realistic description of quark and charged lepton masses and quark mixings, including the Georgi-Jarlskog relations and the leptonic mixing sum rules s=r*cos(delta) and a=-r^2/4 with r=theta_C/3.

The $SU(3)_C\times SU(3)_L\times U(1)_X$ (331) Model:Addressing the Fermion Families Problem within Horizontal Anomalies Cancellation

Abstract:One of the most important and unanswered problems in particle physics is the origin of the three generations of quarks and leptons. The standard Model does not provide any hint regarding its sequential charge assignments, which remain a fundamental mystery of Nature. One possible solution of the puzzle is to look for charge assignments, in a given gauge theory, that are inter-generational, by employing the cancellation of the gravitational and gauge anomalies horizontally. The 331 model, based on an $SU(3)_C\times SU(3)_L \times U(1)_X$ does it in an economic way, and defines a possible extension of the Standard Model, where the number of families has to be necessarily three. We review the model in Frampton's formulation, that predicts the existence of bileptons. Another characteristics of the model is to unify the $SU(3)_C\times SU(2)_L \times U(1)_X$ into the 331 symmetry at a scale which is in the TeV range, and can be tested at the LHC. Expressions of the scalar mass eigenstates and of the renormalization group equations of the model are also presented.

Abstract:In this paper we propose a novel supersymmetric inverse seesaw model which has only one additional Z(6) symmetry. The field content is minimal to get a viable neutrino spectrum at tree-level. Interestingly, the inverse seesaw scale in our model is related to the scale of electroweak symmetry breaking. Due to that origin we are less biased about hierarchies and discuss three different types of the inverse seesaw mechanism with different phenomenologies. We can successfully reproduce neutrino masses and mixing and our model is consistent with current bounds on neutrinoless double beta decay, non-unitarity of the PMNS matrix and charged lepton flavor violation.

Abstract:In the minimal supersymmetric Standard Model with see-saw neutrino masses we show how R-parity can emerge naturally as a discrete gauge symmetry. The same discrete symmetry explains the smallness of the μ-term (the Higgsino mass parameter) via the Giudice–Masiero mechanism. The discrete gauge anomalies are cancelled by a discrete version of the Green–Schwarz mechanism. The simplest symmetry group is found to be Z4 with a charge assignment that is compatible with grand unification. Several other ZN gauge symmetries are found for N=10, 12, 18, 36 etc., with some models employing discrete anomaly cancellation at higher Kac–Moody levels. Allowing for a flavor structure in ZN, we show that the same gauge symmetry can also explain the observed hierarchy in the fermion masses and mixings.

Abstract:We discuss whether quark, charged lepton and neutrino masses and mixing angles may be related by an extended flavour and family symmetry group. We show that current measurements of all fermion masses and mixing angles are consistent with a combination of an underlying SU(3) family symmetry together with a GUT symmetry such as SO(10). In this the near bi-maximal mixing observed in the neutrino sector is directly related to the small mixing observed in the quark sector, the difference between quark and lepton mixing angles being due to the see-saw mechanism. Using this connection we make a detailed prediction for the lepton mixing angles determining neutrino oscillation phenomena.

Abstract:The R-symmetry formalism is applied for the supersymmetric economical SU(3)_C X SU(3)_L X U(1)_X (3-3-1) model. The generalization of the minimal supersymmetric standard model relation among R-parity, spin and matter parity is derived, and discrete symmetries for the proton stability in this model are imposed. We show that in such a case it is able to give leptons masses at just the tree level. A simple mechanism for the mass generation of the neutrinos is explored. With the new R-parity, the neutral fermions get mass matrix with two distinct sectors: one light which is identified with neutrino mass matrix, another heavy one which is identified with neutralinos one. The similar situation exists in the charged fermion sector. Some phenomenological consequences such as proton stability, neutrinoless double beta decays are discussed.

Abstract:We construct a gauge model with symmetry that can explain the quark and lepton mass hierarchies and their mixings with the realistic CP phases via the type-I seesaw mechanism. Six quark mases, three quark mixing angles and CP phase in the quark sector can get the central values %of Particle Data Group 2022 and Yukawa couplings in the quark sector are diluted a range of three orders of magnitude difference by the perturbation theory at the first order. For neutrino sector, the smallness of neutrino mass is achieved by the Type-I seesaw mechanism. Both inverted and normal neutrino mass hierarchies are in consistent with the experimental data. The prediction for the sum of neutrino masses for normal and inverted hierarchies, the effective neutrino masses and the Dirac CP phase are well consistent with all the recent limits.

Non-SUSY Lepton Flavor Model with 3HDM

Abstract:We propose a simple non-supersymmetric lepton flavor model with $A_4$ symmetry. The $A_4$ group is a minimal one which includes triplet irreducible representation. We introduce three Higgs doublets which are assigned as triplet of the $A_4$ symmetry. It is natural that there are three generations of the Higgs fields as same as the standard model fermions. We study the potential analysis and we get the vacuum expectation values for the local minimum. In the vacuum expectation values, we obtain the charged lepton, Dirac neutrino, and right-handed Majorana neutrino mass matrices. By using type-I seesaw mechanism, we get the left-handed Majorana neutrino mass matrix. In the NuFIT 5.1 data, we predict the Dirac CP phase and the Majorana phases for the only inverted neutrino mass hierarchy. Especially, the Dirac CP phase and lepton mixing angle $\theta_{23}$ are strongly correlated. If the $\theta_{23}$ is more precise measured, the Dirac CP phase is more precise predicted, and vice versa. We also predict the effective mass for neutrino-less double beta decay $m_{ee}\simeq 47.1~[\mathrm{meV}]$ and the lightest neutrino mass $m_3\simeq 0.789$~-~$1.43~[\mathrm{meV}]$. It is testable for our model in the near future neutrino experiments.

Fermion Hierarchies in $SU(5)$ Grand Unification from $Γ_6^\prime$ Modular Flavor Symmetry

Abstract:We construct a model in which the hierarchies of the quark and lepton masses and mixing are explained by the $\Gamma_6^\prime$ modular flavor symmetry. The hierarchies are realized by the Froggatt-Nielsen-like mechanism due to the residual $Z^T_6$ symmetry, approximately unbroken at $\tau \sim i\infty.$ We argue that the $\Gamma_6^{(\prime)}$ symmetry is the minimal possibility to realize the up-type quark mass hierarchies, since the Yukawa matrix is symmetric. We find a combination of the representations and modular weights and then show numerical values of $\mathcal{O}(1)$ coefficients for the realistic fermion hierarchies.

Abstract:We present a supersymmetric model of quark and lepton based on S4×Z3×Z4 flavor symmetry. The S4 symmetry is broken down to Klein four and Z3 subgroups in the neutrino and the charged lepton sectors, respectively. Tri-Bimaximal mixing and the charged lepton mass hierarchies are reproduced simultaneously at leading order. Moreover, a realistic pattern of quark masses and mixing angles is generated with the exception of the mixing angle between the first two generations, which requires a small accidental enhancement. It is remarkable that the mass hierarchies are controlled by the spontaneous breaking of flavor symmetry in our model. The next to leading order contributions are studied, all the fermion masses and mixing angles receive corrections of relative order λc2 with respect to the leading order results. The phenomenological consequences of the model are analyzed, the neutrino mass spectrum can be normal hierarchy or inverted hierarchy, and the combined measurement of the 0ν2β decay effective mass mββ and the lightest neutrino mass can distinguish the normal hierarchy from the inverted hierarchy.

Abstract:We consider extension of the standard model $SU(2{)}_{l}\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}SU(2{)}_{h}\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}U(1)$ where the first two families of quarks and leptons transform according to the $SU(2{)}_{l}$ group and the third family according to the $SU(2{)}_{h}$ group. In this approach, the largeness of top-quark mass is associated with the large vacuum expectation value of the corresponding Higgs field. The model predicts almost degenerate heavy ${W}^{\ensuremath{'}}$ and ${Z}^{\ensuremath{'}}$ bosons with nonuniversal couplings, and extra Higgs bosons. We present in detail the symmetry breaking mechanism, and carry out the subsequent phenomenology of the gauge sector. We compare the model with electroweak precision data, and conclude that the extra gauge bosons and the Higgs bosons whose masses lie in the TeV range, can be discovered at the LHC.

Abstract:A bstract We combine SO(10) Grand Unified Theories (GUTs) with A 4 modular symmetry and present a comprehensive analysis of the resulting quark and lepton mass matrices for all the simplest cases. We focus on the case where the three fermion families in the 16 dimensional spinor representation form a triplet of Γ 3 ≃ A 4 , with a Higgs sector comprising a single Higgs multiplet H in the 10 fundamental representation and one Higgs field $$ \overline{\Delta } $$ ∆ ̄ in the $$ \overline{\mathbf{126}} $$ 126 ̄ for the minimal models, plus one Higgs field Σ in the 120 for the non-minimal models, all with specified modular weights. The neutrino masses are generated by the type-I and/or type II seesaw mechanisms and results are presented for each model following an intensive numerical analysis where we have optimized the free parameters of the models in order to match the experimental data. For the phenomenologically successful models, we present the best fit results in numerical tabular form as well as showing the most interesting graphical correlations between parameters, including leptonic CP phases and neutrinoless double beta decay, which have yet to be measured, leading to definite predictions for each of the models.

Tri-unification: a separate $SU(5)$ for each fermion family

Abstract:In this paper we discuss $SU(5)^{3}$ with cyclic symmetry as a possible grand unified theory (GUT). The basic idea of such a tri-unification is that there is a separate $SU(5)$ for each fermion family, with the light Higgs doublet(s) arising from the third family $SU(5)$, providing a basis for charged fermion mass hierarchies. $SU(5)^{3}$ tri-unification reconciles the idea of gauge non-universality with the idea of gauge coupling unification, opening the possibility to build consistent non-universal descriptions of Nature that are valid all the way up to the scale of grand unification. As a concrete example, we propose a grand unified embedding of the tri-hypercharge model $U(1)_Y^3$ based on an $SU(5)^{3}$ framework with cyclic symmetry. We discuss a minimal tri-hypercharge example which can account for all the quark and lepton (including neutrino) masses and mixing parameters. We show that it is possible to unify the many gauge couplings into a single gauge coupling associated with the cyclic $SU(5)^{3}$ gauge group, by assuming minimal multiplet splitting, together with a set of relatively light colour octet scalars. We also study proton decay in this example, and present the predictions for the proton lifetime in the dominant $e^+\pi^0$ channel.

Abstract:We revisit the long-standing problem of supersymmetric grand unified theory (GUT), the doublet-triplet splitting problem. We discuss whether symmetry which controls the {\mu} term in the minimal supersymmetric standard model is compatible with GUT. We find that the symmetry must be broken at the GUT scale. A similar argument also shows that the R symmetry, which is important for low energy supersymmetry, must be broken down to a Z2R symmetry at the GUT scale. We propose a new prescription to achieve the doublet-triplet splitting by symmetry. There, the symmetry which controls the {\mu} term is spontaneously broken at the GUT scale by order parameters which are charged under other symmetries. Bilinear terms of triplet Higgses are charged under the other symmetries, while those of doublet Higgses are not. Then triplet Higgses directly couple to the order parameters and hence obtain GUT scale masses, while doublet Higgses obtain suppressed masses. The broken R symmetry can be also effectively preserved by a similar prescription. As a demonstration, we construct an SU(5)$\times$SU(5) GUT model. We also comment on unification of yukawa couplings.

Abstract: We have performed a systematical study of the eclectic flavor group $\Delta(27)\rtimes S_3$ which is the extension of the traditional flavor symmetry $\Delta(27)$ by the modular symmetry group $S_3$. Consistency between $\Delta(27)$ and $S_3$ requires that the eight nontrivial singlet representations of $\Delta(27)$ should be arranged into four reducible doublets. The modular transformation matrices are determined for various $\Delta(27)$ multiplets, and the generalized CP symmetry compatible with $\Delta(27)\rtimes S_3$ are discussed. We study the general form of the K\"ahler potential and superpotential invariant under $\Delta(27)\rtimes S_3$, and the corresponding fermion mass matrices are presented. We propose a bottom-up model for lepton masses and mixing based on $\Delta(27)\rtimes S_{3}$, a numerical analysis is performed and the experimental data can be accommodated.

Abstract:We show that the mass of a scalar field transforming in the fundamental of an $SU(N|N+1)$ supergroup internal symmetry is protected against one-loop corrections from quartic, gauge, and yukawa interactions. Although the negative-norm states responsible for this protection are likely fatal to a unitary interpretation of the theory, such ultraviolet insensitivity may open a new avenue to understanding the lightness of the Higgs.

Non-holomorphic modular $A_{5}$ symmetry for lepton masses and mixing

Abstract:We perform a comprehensive bottom-up study of all the simplest lepton models based on non-holomorphic $A_{5}$ modular flavor symmetry, in which neutrinos are assumed to be Majorana particles and their masses are generated by the Weinberg operator or the type I seesaw mechanism. In the case that the generalized CP (gCP) symmetry is not considered, we find that 21 Weinberg operator models and 174 seesaw models can accommodate the experimental data in lepton sector, and all of them depend on six dimensionless free parameters and two overall scales. If gCP symmetry compatible with $A_{5}$ modular symmetry is imposed, one more free parameter would be reduced. Then only 4 of the 21 Weinberg operator models and 100 of the 174 seesaw models agree with the experimental data on lepton masses and mixing parameters. Furthermore, we perform a detailed numerical analysis for two example models for illustration.
