Abstract:The article is devoted to the definition of such a multifaceted phenomenon as needs, as well as the search for ways to realize the needs of the elderly poeple in modern conditions. It is established that needs are a complex phenomenon that reflects social life and develops under the influence of such components of social life as the economy, public administration and public policy, culture, education, etc. Satisfaction of needs to a greater extent depends on the interaction of a person with the social environment and is formed under the influence of society. It is because of the presence of needs that a person has motives for a certain activity. Maslow’s extended pyramid of needs (7 levels) was used as the basis for the study of the needs of the elderly – where the first class of needs (physiological needs) includes: the need for healthy food, the need for clean drinking water, the need to maintain an acceptable temperature in the place of residence, the need for support health and treatment, the need for movement, the need for rest, the need for financial means to meet the above needs. The next levels of needs, respectively, are the need for security, the need for love and belonging to a group, the need for respect and recognition, cognitive needs, aesthetic needs, and the need for self-realization. The article considers two essential modern aspects of realization of the needs of the elderly. First, it is a rapid change in needs under the influence of scientific and technological progress and globalization. And secondly, these are the conditions for meeting the needs in the context of the 2020-2021 lockdowns and the effect of martial law from February 2022. It was determined that the third and fourth levels of needs increase in elderly people during the pandemic and in the conditions of martial law: the needs for belonging to a group, love, respect and trust.
