Abstract:The taxonomy of the family Teloschistaceae is undergoing tremendous changes in recent times. India has rich diversity of Teloschistaceae with over 100 taxa. The huge specimen collections of Teloschistaceae housed at LWG are revisited and three species, Oxneria huculica, Variospora flavescens and Zeroviella esfahanensis are reported as new records for India. Abstract:A new species of Orchidaceae , Phalaenopsis zhanhuoensis , from Xichou County, Yunnan, China, is described and illustrated. The novelty is close to P. taenialis , P. wilsonii , and P. stobartiana , but differs from them by having a distinct, fleshy anterior callus with a deeply lobed apex at the base of the labellum and lateral lobes of labellum reflexed and facing outward.

Abstract:A new species, Smilax weniae (Smilacaceae), from Southwest China, is described and illustrated. The new species bears peltate leaves, which was previously a unique feature of S. luei. However, it differs from the latter by having a broad ovate leaf blade, longer peduncle, and sexual dimorphic flowers. Further phylogenetic analyses revealed that the new species were placed in a unique position in a subclade of Old World Smilax based on ptDNA and nrITS sequences. Combining detailed morphological comparisons and molecular evidence, we validated that S. weniae is an undescribed new species. Moreover, the plastome characteristics of S. weniae are reported.

Lecanorchis malipoensis is morphological similar to L. thalassica and is distinguished from it by the shape and margins of mid-lobe, a villous callus in the centre of the upper part of the middle lobe.

Abstract:During a recent study of the gypsicolous flora of the municipality of San Juan Teita, Oaxaca, a new species of Zeltnera was identified. We revised several herbarium collections, protologues and types, and we concluded that this does not belong to any of the previously described species. In this work, Zeltnera fonsecae, the only Mexican strictly gypsophilous species of the genus, is described and illustrated. Similarities with other species of the genus are commented, a preliminary conservation assessment is proposed, and a key to the species of the genus in Mexico provided. The new species is distinguished from other similar species of Zeltnera by the small size of the plants, cauline and divergent leaves, as well as pentamerous and white flowers. According to the criteria of the IUCN, the category of Vulnerable (VU, D2) is proposed.

Abstract:In preparation for the second edition of Flora of Zhejiang, two new species and a new variety of Fimbristylis, F. longquanensis, F. minuticulmis and F. stolonifera var. cylindrica, are described and illustrated in the present paper. Fimbristylis longquanensis is similar to F. complanata, but differs in being an annual habit with rhizomes absent, leaves 2–2.5 mm wide, bracts longer than or nearly equal to inflorescence, and nutlets smooth. Fimbristylis minuticulmis is simiar to F. diphylloides, but differs in having culms 2–12 cm tall, much shorter than leaves, spikelets broadly ovoid, obtuse at apex, scales acute at apex, stigmas 2, and nutlets biconvex. Fimbristylis stolonifera var. cylindrica differs from its autonymic variety in having the inflorescence simple, and spikelets cylindrical, 8–15 × 2.5–3 mm.

Abstract:Lilium shenxianjuense, a new species of Liliaceae from Zhejiang, China, is described with illustrations. Phylogenetic analysis based on complete plastomes places the new species as sister to a clade that comprises species of L. sect. Sinomartagon. Morphologically, L. shenxianjuense is like L. concolor and L. lancifolium, but differs in habitat preferences and morphology. The plastome is like those of other species of Lilium in gene content and structure. The new species is critically endangered and in need of urgent protection.

Abstract:Gynoxys is a very diverse genus of Asteraceae with an Andean distribution from Venezuela to northern Argentina. It comprises about 130 species, 34 of which are recorded in Ecuador. In the present study, we describe Gynoxys revolutifolia, a new species occurring in Ecuador between Loja and Zamora-Chinchipe provinces. The new species is a shrub or treelet characterized by coriaceous leaves with a strongly revolute margin. After an accurate revision of the main Ecuadorian herbaria and field surveys, we provide a comprehensive comparison of G. revolutifolia with the species it was previously misidentified as. We also provide information concerning the chemical composition, distribution range and conservation status of the new species.

Abstract:A new species of Orchidaceae, Phalaenopsismedogensis, from Motuo, Xizang, is described and illustrated based on morphological characters and molecular phylogenetics analysis. Molecular phylogenetic analysis and morphological characters indicate that P.medogensis is close to P.deliciosa, P.gibbosa and P.lobbii, but differs from them by having triangular wings on the column foot, rhombic lip mid-lobe with a fleshy-horned appendage at the base, and concave lip lateral lobes, the lower part white with a deep purplish-red spot and hairy, the upper part pale yellow with dense rust spots.

Abstract:As the supplement of the flora of Zhejiang, East China, two new species were described with illustrations. Cerastiumhuadingense Y.F.Lu, W.Y.Xie & X.F.Jin (Caryophyllaceae) differs from C.qingliangfengicum in having sterile stems absent, leaves sessile, petals slightly longer than sepals, and stamens slightly shorter than sepals. Ixeridiumdimorphifolium Y.L.Xu, Y.F.Lu & X.Cai (Asteraceae) differs from I.beauverdianum in having plant stoloniferous, basal leaves dimorphic, involucre 8‒10 mm long, inner phyllaries 8, and florets 7‒10. Paraphlomissetulosa C.Y.Wu & H.W.Li (Lamiaceae) was reviewed and morphological characters of the corolla and stamens of its type and the specimens collected in the field survey were critically examined. With barbate anthers and strongly divergent anther cells, Paraphlomissetulosa was transferred to Sinopogonanthera, and S.setulosa (C.Y.Wu & H.W.Li) H.W.Zhang & X.F.Jin was consequently combined.

Abstract:Liparis bomiensis, a new species of Orchidaceae from Bomi County, Linzhi, Xizang, China, is described and illustrated on morphological characters and molecular systematics. It is morphologically similar to L. rostrata with 2 thick projections at base of column, but differs from it by having purple and rhombic lip about 15 mm long, sepals and petals more than 15 mm long. Molecular phylogenetic results based on nuclear ribosomal ITS and plastid matK sequences showed that L. bomiensis is sister to L. glossula, but differs from it by having 2 thick nipple-like projections at base of column, two leaves, bracts triangular, column strongly curved. A detailed morphological description and photographic plates are provided for this new species.

Abstract:A new species of the genus Ochradenus (Resedaceae), O. lakhpatensis, is described and illustrated. It is known from just five populations endemic to a relatively restricted area in Western India (Gujarat state), constituting the easternmost known records of the genus. It is morphologically similar to O. harsusiticus but differs in having pedicellate flowers and fruits, a higher number of stamens, wider fruit, and open fruit apex. A detailed description of the new species including colour photographs and an identification key to distinguish currently accepted Ochradenus species are provided. A preliminary conservation assessment of the species is also conducted under IUCN categories and criteria at the global level, resulting in the proposal of the Endangered category. In addition, we propose the exclusion of O. baccatus from the Indian flora, as it seems to be erroneous record.

Abstract:Iris luojiensis Z.Y. Wang, H.W. Huang and R. Li sp. nov. from southwest China is described and illustrated. This species occurs on shrub slopes in mountainous regions of southwest China. Iris luojiensis is morphologically similar to Iris japonica Thunb., Iris calcicola Z. C. Lu, Z.P. Huang and Yan Liu and Iris wattii Baker, but easily distinguished from them by its bluish‐violet flowers, 3–6 flowering‐stem branches, leaf size, particularly the upper leaves, and by only having two to three (seldom one) flowers per bract. A phylogenetic analysis based on the complete plastid genome supports the separation of I. luojiensis from other morphologically related species. According to morphological and molecular evidence, I. luojiensis can be placed in the I. sect. Lophiris.

Abstract:Elatostema qinzhouense L.F. Fu, A.K. Monro & Y.G. Wei, a new species from Guangxi, China is described and illustrated. Morphologically, E. qinzhouense is most similar to E. hezhouense from which it differs by having smaller size of leaf laminae, fewer and smaller staminate peduncle bracts, longer pistillate peduncle bracts and a larger achene. This result is supported by the molecular evidence. The phylogenetic position of the new species within Elatostema is evaluated using three DNA regions, ITS, trnH-psbA and psbM-trnD , for 107 taxa of Elatostema s.l. (including E. qinzhouense ). Bayesian inference (BI) and maximum likelihood (ML) analyses each recovered the same strongly supported tree topologies, indicating that E. qinzhouense is a member of the core Elatostema clade and sister to E. hezhouense . Along with the phylogenetic studies, plastid genome and ribosomal DNA (rDNA) sequences of the new species are assembled and annotated. The plastid genome is 150,398 bp in length and comprises two inverted repeats (IRs) of 24,688 bp separated by a large single-copy of 83,919 bp and a small single-copy of 17,103 bp. A total of 113 functional genes are recovered, comprising 79 protein-coding genes, 30 tRNA genes, and four rRNA genes. The rDNA is 5,804 bp in length and comprised the 18S ribosomal RNA partial sequence (1,809 bp), internal transcribed spacer 1 (213 bp), 5.8S ribosomal RNA (164 bp), internal transcribed spacer 2 (248 bp) and 26S ribosomal RNA partial sequence (3,370 bp). In addition, the chromosome number of E. qinzhouense is observed to be 2 n = 26, suggesting that the species is diploid. Given a consistent relationship between ploidy level and reproductive system in Elatostema , the new species is also considered to be sexually reproducing. Our assessment of the extinction threat for E. qinzhouense is that it is Endangered (EN) according to the criteria of the International Union for Conservation of Nature.

Abstract:Hemipilia zhuxiensis ( Orchidaceae ), is a new species discovered in the Shibali Long Canyon National Nature Reserve, Zhuxi County, Hubei Province, China. It is morphologically similar to Hemipilia henryi and Hemipilia crassicalcarata , but differs in having an oblong, simple labellum with a slightly involute margin, an upcurved apex, and a spur shorter than the ovary. Molecular phylogenetic analyses, using nuclear (nrITS) and plastid (combined matK , psaB , psbA-trnH , rbcL and trnL-F ) DNA sequences, confirm that H. zhuxiensis is closely related to Hemipilia henryi and Hemipilia crassicalcarata , supporting its recognition as a new species in the H. section Hemipilia as defined by Tang et al. (2015) .

Morphological, root anatomical, pollen and molecular features were compared with its allied species C. laxum R.Br. which has apiculate anther, lanceolate bract, 16–18 nerved flat leaf and ellipsoid pollen with contrast to obtuse anther, ovate bract, 11–13 nerved conduplicate leaf and ovoid pollen. The molecular features complement the differences.

Abstract:A new species, Bulbophyllum gopalianum, is described from the montane sub‐tropical forest of Mizoram (India) in the westernmost area of the Indo‐Myanmar biodiversity hotspot. The new species belongs to the section Lemniscata and shows close morphological affinity to B. suavissimum and B. shanicum. A detailed description, diagnosis, phenology, taxonomic notes and conservation assessment are presented. The new species is assessed as critically endangered (CR) based on its very small and restricted population size.
