Digitalization Enables High-Quality Development of Enterprises

Abstract:In the digital era, the rapid development and popularization of information technology has brought unprecedented opportunities for enterprises, and digital transformation has become the key to achieve high-quality development of enterprises. Using panel data of Chinese A-share listed companies from 2011-2021, this paper investigates the impact of enterprise digital transformation on the high-quality development of enterprises and its mechanism through a fixed-effects regression model. The study finds that (1) digital transformation can enhance firms' total factor productivity, thus empowering high-quality development; (2) digitalization empowers firms in terms of promoting the level of innovation, improving operational efficiency, and enhancing growth capabilities; and (3) differences in firms' regional distributions, types of firms, and adoption of AI technologies significantly affect digitalization's empowerment of firms' high-quality development. This study reveals the intrinsic influence mechanism of total factor productivity of digitally-enabled enterprises from a novel perspective, and provides an important empirical basis for the "China Solution" for high-quality development of enterprises.
