Abstract:Pilonidal disease (PD) is marked by chronic inflammation and frequent recurrence which can decrease quality of life. However, debate remains regarding the optimal treatment for PD in the pediatric population. This study compares two recommended treatment approaches—excision with off-midline flap reconstruction (OMF: Bascom cleft lift flap, modified Limberg flap) and minimally invasive endoscopic pilonidal sinus treatment (EPSiT).

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
This paper aims to solve the problem of optimal treatment option selection in the treatment of pediatric pilonidal disease (PD). Specifically, the study compared the effects of two recommended treatment methods - excision plus off - midline flap reconstruction (OMF: including Bascom fenestration elevation flap and modified Limberg flap) and endoscopic pilonidal sinus treatment (EPSiT). The main purpose of the study was to evaluate the differences between these two methods in terms of reducing the disease recurrence rate, re - operation rate, and decreasing the wound complication rate, so as to provide more effective treatment suggestions for pediatric patients.
