Abstract:To summarize major current developments and research in the field of mobile health (mHealth) services.Reports on the unique characteristics of mHealth platform and its role in delivering health services to the resource poor settings. Also, it evaluates different mHealth applications and identifies key success factors and challenges.mHealth, based on the most ubiquitous and widely accepted technology, offers an unprecedented opportunity to serve the unserved by right time medical information services. There is growing evidence that it has already transformed healthcare delivery in many resource poor settings through its low cost, high reach and versatile applications. However, challenges still remain with regard to the development of consumer centric solutions, and services quality in terms of knowledge and competence of the provider, integration of the information systems and interoperability of the information services. Additional problems arise from the collaboration, partnership and regulation perspectives. There are noticeable trends towards solutions for these problems.

Abstract:The use of mobile Internet devices (MIDs), smartphones, and proprietary software applications (also known as apps in short) can improve communication among medical caregivers. The utilization of these mobile technologies has further transformed health care, communications, commerce, education, and entertainment, among other fields. Newer technologies have the potential to be adapted for improvement in health care and medical education in general. Mobile technology is one of the latest strings of technological innovations that can be integrated into medical education. M-learning (the use of mobile technologies in teaching/training) has been used as a complimentary resource for interaction between students and instructors for motivation and learning. The main uses described for mobile devices in medical education can be divided into (a) information management (IM), (b) communication, and (c) time management. The field of mobile technology in health-care services and medical education is quite new and throws open ample opportunities for researchers to conduct further studies. Educators in medicine, dermatology, and public health as well as practicing physicians and surgeons need to embrace this new technology, study its further adoption, and assist in the responsible integration of these devices into the art and practice of medicine.

Abstract:The utilization of mHealth applications for remote monitoring has the potential to revolutionize healthcare delivery by enhancing patient outcomes, increasing access to healthcare services, and reducing healthcare costs. This literature review aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the current state of knowledge on mHealth applications for remote monitoring, including their types, benefits, challenges, and limitations, as well as future directions and research gaps. A systematic search of databases such as PubMed, MEDLINE, EMBASE, CINAHL, and Google Scholar was conducted to identify relevant articles published within the last 5 years. Thematic analysis was used to synthesize the findings. The review highlights various types of mHealth applications used for remote monitoring, such as telemedicine platforms, mobile apps for chronic disease management, and wearable devices. The benefits of these applications include improved patient outcomes, increased access to healthcare, reduced healthcare costs, and addressing healthcare disparities. However, challenges and limitations, such as privacy and security concerns, lack of technical infrastructure, regulatory is-sues, data accuracy, user adherence, and the digital divide, need to be addressed to ensure successful adoption and utilization of mHealth applications. Further research is required in areas such as the long-term effects of mHealth applications on patient outcomes, integration of mHealth data with electronic health records, and the development of artificial intelligence-driven mHealth applica-tions. By harnessing the potential of mHealth applications and addressing the existing challenges, healthcare delivery can be transformed towards a more accessible, cost-effective, and patient-centered model.

Abstract:Mobile devices and technologies offer a tremendous amount of benefits to users, although it is also understood that it introduces a set of challenges when it comes to security, compliance, and risks. More and more healthcare organizations have been seeking to update their outdated technology, and have considered the adoption of mobile devices to meet these needs. However, introducing mobile devices and technology also introduces new risks and threats to the organization. As a test case, we examine Epic Rover, a mobile application that has been identified as a viable solution to manage the electronic medical system. In this paper, we study the insights that the security team needs to investigate, before the adoption of this mobile technology, as well as provide a thorough examination of the vulnerabilities and threats that the use of mobile devices in the healthcare environment brings, and introduce countermeasures and mitigations to reduce the risk while maintaining regulatory compliance.

Abstract:India is currently the most populous country in the world, with pressing unmet needs of the population living in rural and remote areas. Digitization of health care has opened a new window to solve public health challenges of the communities as it has the potential to remove the physical barrier between urban and rural areas. Several mHealth applications have been introduced in the recent 2–3 years in India. mHealth apps are being used to deliver health-care information, reminders, and support to rural communities. For health-care managers, digitalization makes their work of supply chain management easier in rural areas, ensuring that essential health-care resources are available to the communities in a more efficient manner.

Abstract:As 5G technology expands, many people use mobile health apps (mHealth apps) to manage their health, including chronic disease health management, maternal health information inquiry, mental illness problem consultation, and personal health management. Applications for mobile health that are poorly designed make it difficult for users to access health information. Despite the rise in publications on the subject, few evaluations look at the design of mHealth apps and their potential futures. Accordingly, the specific objective of the study is to report the results of a thematic review analysis that examined the research on mHealth apps development from the perspective of design, addressing the knowledge and methods required to build design-based mHealth apps. Thematic review analysis of 49 articles from 2018 to 2023 was used to collect data for this study, and the results of the ATLAS.ti 23 code-to-document review show the trends that researchers should look for. Four major themes can be seen from the analysis: 1) mHealth Apps applied Theory; 2) mHealth Apps Functionality Features; 3) mHealth apps design strategy; 4) mHealth Apps Design Elements. The findings imply that in order for users to adhere to mHealth apps as intended, future research trends in their design practice should integrate design strategy with transdisciplinary research. This endeavor will produce new understanding of new standards for research trends in mHealth app development.

Abstract:Digital health interventions refer to the use of digital technology and connected devices to improve health outcomes and healthcare delivery. This includes telemedicine, electronic health records, wearable devices, mobile health applications, and other forms of digital health technology. To this end, several research and developmental activities in various fields are gaining momentum. For instance, in the medical devices sector, several smart biomedical materials and medical devices that are digitally enabled are rapidly being developed and introduced into clinical settings. In the pharma and allied sectors, digital health-focused technologies are widely being used through various stages of drug development, viz. computer-aided drug design, computational modeling for predictive toxicology, and big data analytics for clinical trial management. In the biotechnology and bioengineering fields, investigations are rapidly growing focus on digital health, such as omics biology, synthetic biology, systems biology, big data and personalized medicine. Though digital health-focused innovations are expanding the horizons of health in diverse ways, here the development in the fields of medical devices, pharmaceutical technologies and biotech sectors, with emphasis on trends, opportunities and challenges are reviewed. A perspective on the use of digital health in the Indian context is also included.

Abstract:The rapid integration of mobile applications in healthcare has prompted an evolutionary change in nursing domain. This study aimed to systematically analyze the basic publication characteristics, research priorities, emerging trends, and thematic evolutions concerning mobile applications in nursing, providing an overview of the field's developmental trajectory and future directions. This was a descriptive bibliometric study. Data were collected on July 5, 2023, from the Web of Science database and analyzed by using the Bibliometrix package in R software. The search strategy yielded 417 documents authored by 1969 researchers, cited 12 595 references, and featured 1213 author keywords, spanning from 2012 to 2023. Research on mobile applications in nursing exhibited several key trends: (1) substantial collaboration among authors; (2) significant growth in the number of publications; (3) self-management was the most prominent hot topic; and (4) an evolution of research themes from general topics to a more specific focus on people-centered and problem-centered research. The corpus of literature pertaining to research on mobile applications within the nursing domain is anticipated to expand continually. Future research and practice in the nursing field are expected to benefit significantly from multidisciplinary collaboration and advancements in emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence.

Abstract:This article discusses the current status,development barriers,and development directions of consumer-oriented mobile health applications (mHealth APPs).Currently,there are more than 165 000 mHealth APPs in the main APP stores.The top two categories are health management and disease management.Other categories include self-diagnosis, medication reminders,patient web portals,and rehabilitation management.These APPs provide end-users with low-cost,high-quality,24/7 access to health information worldwide.However,owing to a lack of supervision,a lack of relevant evidence-based information,and concerns about privacy and security,mHealth APPs still have many areas in which to improve.Future directions may include integrating data into health care systems,providing interactive application platforms,granting access to electronic health records,providing cloud-based storage of personal health records,and delivering prescriptions through APPs. For mHealth APPs to achieve maximum value in healthcare and chronic disease management,all stakeholders in the industry must work together to overcome related obstacles.

Abstract:Advances in digital technologies have created unprecedented opportunities to assess and improve health behavior and health outcomes. Evidence indicates that a majority of the world's population, including traditionally underserved populations and low- and middle-income countries, has access to mobile technologies (phones, tablets, mobile devices). Given the widespread access to mobile technology worldwide, health behavior-change tools delivered on mobile platforms enable broader reach and scalability of evidence-based assessment and interventions, especially for addressing the growing burden of mental health disorders globally. The purpose of this article was to present a qualitative review of mobile mental health applications in an Asian context. We searched on-line databases and included 22 articles in this review. We have identified mobile health applications that address eight categories of mental illnesses. These applications were developed in only six countries and regions in Asia. Future studies from more diverse countries for diverse cultures should be conducted to examine the advantages and disadvantages of mobile health technology.

Abstract:Abstract Nearly half of US adults have hypertension, and three in four cases are not well-controlled. Due to structural barriers, underserved communities face greater burdens of disease, less consistent management, and worse outcomes. Mobile technology presents an opportunity to reduce financial, geographic, and workforce barriers, but little data currently support its use in populations with digital disparities. A recent article by Khoong et al. systematically reviews the literature to quantify outcomes for these populations and provide a roadmap toward more inclusive mobile health strategies.

Abstract:Propelled by the continual improvements in mobile wireless communications, mobile health (mHealth) is emerging as a significant player in addition to conventional services. Health care Researchers have focused on quality which is an antecedent to service design. There is a significant gap in the literature with respect to both inter and intra health care service delivery systems. A quantitative comparison of health care services provides insights into whether service alternatives are distinguishable from each other and if so, what factors contribute to the differentiation from the patients’ perspective. With this motivation, a multiple discriminant analysis is performed on various health care services including a B2C mHealth service in a developing country to unearth the patients’ perceptions. The outcome of this maiden attempt can assist multiple stakeholders of health care industry. The comparative insights and House of Quality (HoQ) model can also help in services design. Ubiquity, interaction quality and value have been identified to have significant influence on the patients’ attitude towards health care services. mHealth has been favourably rated than other services. Service providers and governments of developing countries can utilise these insights to enhance their services and work towards efficient delivery alternatives in achieving quality health care for all.

Abstract:Objective: We conduct a first large-scale analysis of mobile health (mHealth) apps available on Google Play with the goal of providing a comprehensive view of mHealth apps' security features and gauging the associated risks for mHealth users and their data. Materials and methods: We designed an app collection platform that discovered and downloaded more than 20 000 mHealth apps from the Medical and Health & Fitness categories on Google Play. We performed a suite of app code and traffic measurements to highlight a range of app security flaws: certificate security, sensitive or unnecessary permission requests, malware presence, communication security, and security-related concerns raised in user reviews. Results: Compared to baseline non-mHealth apps, mHealth apps generally adopt more reliable signing mechanisms and request fewer dangerous permissions. However, significant fractions of mHealth apps expose users to serious security risks. Specifically, 1.8% of mHealth apps package suspicious codes (eg, trojans), 45.0% rely on unencrypted communication, and as much as 23.0% of personal data (eg, location information and passwords) is sent on unsecured traffic. An analysis of the app reviews reveals that mHealth app users are largely unaware of the surfaced security issues. Conclusion: Despite being better aligned with security best practices than non-mHealth apps, mHealth apps are still far from ensuring robust security guarantees. App users, clinicians, technology developers, and policy makers alike should be cognizant of the uncovered security issues and weigh them carefully against the benefits of mHealth apps.
