Abstract:We continue to study the properties of the light pseudoscalar nonet within the combined framework of Nambu -- Jona-Lasinio model and $1/N_c$ expansion, assuming that current quark masses count of order $\mathcal O(1/N_c)$. The masses, mixing angles and decay constants of the $\pi^0$, $\eta$ and $\eta'$ are calculated. The role of the $U(1)_A$ anomaly is emphasized. It is shown that the gluon anomaly suppresses the leading order effects that might otherwise be substantial for the $\eta\to 3\pi$ amplitude. A detailed comparison with the known results of $1/N_c$ chiral perturbation theory is made.

U(5) Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model with flavor dependent coupling constants: pseudoscalar and scalar mesons masses

Abstract:By considering the background field method we calculate one-loop polarization corrections to the coupling constant of the flavor-U(5) Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model with degenerate up and down quarks. They break flavor and chiral symmetries, and they can be written as $G_{ij}^\Gamma (\bar{\psi} \lambda_i \Gamma \psi) ( \bar{\psi} \lambda_j \Gamma \psi)$, for the scalar and pseudoscalar channels ($\Gamma=I , i \gamma_5$) and $i,j = 0,1,...,N_f^2-1$. Therefore, these coupling constants do not introduce further free parameters in the model which amount to five, six or seven in total. Their contributions to different observables are computed. The non-covariant three-dimensional regularization scheme is employed. Besides that, flavor dependence of cutoffs is implemented in an unambiguous way. It turns out that only two UV cutoffs ($\Lambda_f$) are best suitable. Nevertheless, the best results are obtained for nearly flavor-independent cutoffs. A quantum mixing due to the representations of the flavor group leads to different interactions for the quarks and for the meson states, respectively denoted by $G_{ff}$ and $G_{ij}$. This quantum mixing effect is responsible for a lowering of quark effective masses and a slight improvement of predictions of observables. A quite surprisingly good description of almost all the pseudoscalar meson masses (within nearly $5\%$) and most of the scalar meson masses -is obtained within nearly 10$\%$. Some problems to describe light scalar mesons masses still remain. The NJL-gap equations seems to overestimate the heavy quark condensates at the usual mean field level usually adopted for model. In spite of the good description of the meson masses, the pseudoscalar meson weak decay constant cannot be described by the NJL model with relativistic heavy quark propagators without further interactions or effects.

Abstract:In this paper, we firstly combine the 2 + 1 flavors Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model with propertime regularization (PTR) to study the equation of state (EOS) and fix the corresponding parameters in 2 + 1 flavors system. Based on this model, we calculate chiral susceptibility and quark number susceptibility and we find a crossover with chemical potential from 220 to 400 MeV. Then we consider the chemical equilibrium and electric charge neutrality conditions in electroweak reactions, which give some constrains of chemical potentials of different quark flavors. At last, we find that the 2 + 1 flavors system is more stable than 2 flavors system after a comparison and discussion of these two cases.

Abstract:The mass formulas and decay constants of electrically charged and strange pseudoscalar mesons are analyzed within the combined framework of Nambu -- Jona-Lasinio model and the $1/N_c$ expansion up to $\mathcal O(1/N_c^2)$. The light quark masses explicitly violating $SU(3)_L\times SU(3)_R$ chiral symmetry of the strong interactions are taken to be of order $\mathcal O(1/N_c)$. The Fock-Schwinger proper-time method and the Volterra series are used to derive the effective action. A set of sum rules is obtained that relates the phenomenological values of the masses of pseudoscalar mesons to the mass ratios of light quarks. It is shown that combining the new sum rules with the experimental data on the decay width $\eta\to 3\pi$ allows to establish limits for the ratios: $0.47<m_u/m_d<0.59$ and $18.60<m_s/m_d<19.66$. A comparison with the results of similar calculations in $1/N_c$ chiral perturbation theory is made.

Abstract:We study the model of an Abelian vector field with Chern–Simons term coupled to Higgs field in dimensions and quantize it canonically by using the Dirac–Bergmann algorithm. As an equivalent approach of rotational invariance in the theory, the Schwinger relation is established. We further show the exotic statistics for these configurations and establish a angular-momentum-anomaly connection.

Abstract:We calculated in nonlinear bosonized theory $1/\bar{N}$ corrections to the Landau Fermi-liquid fixed-point (FLFP) axial-vector coupling constant in nuclear matter $g_A^L\approx 1$ to which the Landau parameter $F_1^\omega$ predominantly contributes. We obtain the correction to $F_1^\omega$ to calculate the correction $\delta g_A^L$ to the axial-vector coupling constant $g_A^L$ at the nuclear saturation density. It comes out to be extremely small, $\delta g_A^L\sim O(10^{-4})$. We discuss how the "dilaton-limit fixed-point (DLFP)" result $g_A=1$ can be preserved from finite nuclei to high densities relevant to massive neutron stars and its possible impact on $0\nu\beta\beta$ decay processes involved in going beyond the Standard Model.

Abstract:In this paper, the coupling strength G of the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model is modified by incorporating quark's feedback into the gluon propagator. The modified two flavor NJL model with the quark-dependent coupling strength is explored. The quark condensate in this framework has a conspicuous agreement with the lattice quantum chromodynamics (QCD) results at finite temperature. Then, it is compared with the original NJL model in both zero (chiral limit) and nonzero current quark mass. The QCD phase diagram and susceptibilities are investigated in the temperature-chemical potential (T-mu) plane. Therefore, the pseudo-critical temperature T-c and the critical end point (CEP) are worked out and compared with original NJL model or lattice QCD results. In addition, the pion mass and decay constant are studied at finite temperature.

Abstract:Based on the self-consistent scheme beyond mean-field approximation in the large $N_c$ expansion, including current quark mass explicitly, a general scheme of SU(2) NJL model is developed. To ensure the quark self-energy expanded in the proper order of $N_c$, an approximate internal meson propagator is deduced, which is in order of $O(1/N_c)$. In our scheme, adopting the method of external momentum expansion, all the Feynman diagrams are calculated in a unified way by only expanding the quark propagator. Our numerical results show, that different from the mean field approximation in which the explicitly chiral symmetry breaking is invisible, the effect of finite pion mass can be seen clearly when beyond mean-field approximation.

Abstract:We derive a Nambu--Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model from a non-local gauge theory and show that it has confining properties at low energies. In particular, we present an extended approach to non-local QCD and a complete revision of the technique of Bender, Milton and Savage applied to non-local theories, providing a set of Dyson--Schwinger equations in differential form. In the local case, we obtain closed form solutions in the simplest case of the scalar field and extend it to the Yang--Mills field. In general, for non-local theories, we use a perturbative technique and a Fourier series and show how higher-order harmonics are heavily damped due to the presence of the non-local factor. The spectrum of the theory is analysed for the non-local Yang--Mills sector and found to be in agreement with the local results on the lattice in the limit of the non-locality mass parameter running to infinity. In the non-local case, we confine ourselves to a non-locality mass that is sufficiently large compared to the mass scale arising from the integration of the Dyson--Schwinger equations. Such a choice results in good agreement, in the proper limit, with the spectrum of the local theory. We derive the gap equation for the fermions in the theory that gives some indication of quark confinement in the non-local NJL case as well. Confinement seems to be a rather ubiquitous effect that removes some degrees of freedom in the original action, favouring the appearance of new observable states, as seen, e.g.,\ for quantum chromodynamics at lower energies.

Baryon Number Fluctuations in NJL Model

Abstract: Baryon number fluctuations are believed to be good signatures of the QCD phase transition and its CP. Since the fluctuations are proportional to the various order baryon-number susceptibilities and the quark-number density is determined by the dressed quark propagator only, then by the dressed quark propagator of NJL model we can calculate the moments of quark number. We choose the parameterized scheme by J. Cleymans and the recent RHIC results to correspond the freeze-out temperature $T$ and the quark chemical potential $\mu$ in NJL results to the collision energies $\sqrt{S_{NN}}$ in experiments. It is found that in the latter case the results of NJL model fit the experimental better, especially in $0-5\%$ centrality. At the same time there are still some problems to be noticed: when $\sqrt{S_{NN}}\le 10 GeV$ the NJL results show obvious fluctuations; the NJL results are comprehensively less than the experimental data; the NJL results behave differently from the experimental data in some cases.

Abstract:We calculate the momentum dependence of three particle vertices $\sigma \gamma \gamma$, $\sigma \rho \gamma$ and $\sigma \rho \rho$ in the context of a Nambu Jona Lasinio type model. We show how they influence the processes $\gamma \gamma \rightarrow \sigma \rightarrow \pi \pi$, $\rho \rightarrow \gamma \sigma$ and $\gamma \gamma \rightarrow \rho \rho$ and how chiral symmetry shadows the presence of the $\sigma$.
Can $1/N_c$ corrections be treated in the Pomeron calculus?

Abstract:The main goal of the paper is to show that we can treat the $1/N_c$ QCD corrections in the Pomeron calculus. We develop the one dimensional model which is a simplification of the QCD approach that includes $\pom \to 2 \pom$, $2 \pom \to \pom$ and $ 2 \pom \to 2 \pom$ vertices and gives the description of the high energy interaction, both in the framework of the parton cascade and in the Pomeron calculus. In this model we show that the scattering amplitude can be written as the sum of Green's function of $n$ Pomeron exchanges $G_{n \pom} \propto e^{ \omega_n \Y}$ with $\omega_n =\kappa\,n^2$ at $\kappa \ll 1$. This means that choosing $\kappa = 1/N^2_c$ we can reproduce the intercepts of QCD in $1/N_c$ order. The scattering amplitude is an asymptotic series that cannot be sum using Borel approach. We found a general way of summing such series. In addition to the positive eigenvalues we found the set of negative eigenvalues which corresponds to the partonic description of the scattering amplitude. Using Abramowsky, Gribov and Kancheli cutting rules we found the multiplicity distributions of the produced dipoles as well as their entropy $S_E$.

Interacting two-particle states in the symmetric phase of the chiral Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model

Abstract:The renormalisation group flow of the chiral Nambu--Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model with one fermion flavor is mapped out in the symmetric phase with the help of the Functional Renormalisation Group (FRG) method using a physically motivated non-local trial effective action. The well-known infrared unstable strongly coupled fixed point characterized by a set of pointlike four-fermion couplings is reproduced. The Gaussian infrared end-point of the flow of the four-fermion couplings is now accompanied by non-zero limiting composite couplings characteristic for interacting two-particle states with finite energy and physical size. The negative interaction energy of the constituents is extracted as a function of the physical size of the composite object. This function reaches a minimum in the accessible range of physical sizes, mildly depending on the set of initial values of the couplings. The propagation of a two-particle state minimizing the interaction energy has a natural bound state interpretation.

Renormalization-group consistent treatment of color superconductivity in the NJL model

Abstract:The Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model and specifically its extension to color superconductivity (CSC) is a popular effective model for investigating dense quark matter. However, the reliability of its results is challenged by cutoff artifacts, which emerge if temperature or chemical potential are of the order of the cutoff energy scales. In this work, we generalize an idea from [Braun et al. SciPost Phys., 6:056, 2019], which is based on the requirement of renormalization-group (RG) consistency and has successfully been applied to the two-flavor Quark-Meson-Diquark model, to the NJL model for electrically and color-neutral three-flavor color-superconducting quark matter. To this end, we analyze the medium divergences of the model and eliminate them by appropriate counterterms, introducing three different schemes. We show that the RG-consistent treatment removes the cutoff artifacts of the conventional regularization and enables the investigation of CSC matter at higher densities by the model. Our studies reveal the emergence of a so-called dSC phase within the melting pattern of the Color-Flavor Locked (CFL) phase at high chemical potentials, consistent with earlier Ginzburg-Landau analyses.

Abstract:The Global Colour Model (GCM) of QCD is a very successful model. Not only is it formally derivable from QCD but under various conditions it reduces to the NJL model and also to Chiral Perturbation Theory, and to other models. Results presented include the effective gluon propagator, the difference between constituent and exact quark propagators, various meson and nucleon observables, a new mass formula for the Nambu-Goldstone mesons of QCD, and the change in the MIT bag constant in nuclei.

Abstract:It is shown that the processes $e^+ e^- \to \pi^+ \pi^-$ and $\tau^- \to \pi^- \pi^0 \nu_\tau$ can be described in a unified approach in satisfactory agreement with experiment using the vector coupling constant $g_{\rho} = 6$. In this case, in addition to quark loops, it is also necessary to take into account meson loops corresponding to the next order in $1/N_c$. These loops must be taken into account when describing the $\gamma (W) \to \rho$ transition, as well as in interaction of mesons in the final state.

Abstract:The nucleon's axial charge, g(A), expresses features that are both fundamental to the strong interaction and crucial to its connection with weak-interaction physics. We show that dynamical chiral symmetry breaking (DCSB) suppresses the axial charge of a dressed quark, g(A)(q), at infrared momenta. Since this effect disappears as chiral symmetry is restored, one may argue that g(A) vanishes with the restoration of chiral symmetry because no nucleon bound state survives the associated transition. The suppression of g(A)(q) is shown to be part of an explanation for a 25% reduction of g(A) from its nonrelativistic quark-model value. Critical, too, however, is the presence of dressed-quark angular momentum within the nucleon. The value of g(A)(q) depends on the kernels of the gap and Bethe-Salpeter equations. We find that incorporation of essentially nonperturbative effects associated with DCSB into these kernels inflates the value relative to that obtained at leading order in a widely used truncation of QCD's Dyson-Schwinger equations. Such corrections also affect the nucleon's axial radius. In both cases, however, agreement with experiment will require similar improvements to the Faddeev kernel and associated interaction current.
$\pi - \pi$ Scattering Lengths and Chiral Condensate in NJL Model

Abstract:Within the general framework of SU(2) Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model beyond mean-field approximation, the S-wave $\pi - \pi$ scattering lengths $a_0^0$ and $a_0^2$ are calculated. The numerical results are in agreement with that analyzed from recent experiment $\pi N \to \pi \pi N$ data by using Chew-Low-Goebel technique, and the corresponding chiral condensate $<{\bar q}q>$ is around $-(250 {\rm MeV})^3$, which is close to the ones obtained from lattice and sum rules.
$1/N$ Corrections in $\text{QCD}_2$: Small Mass Limit and Threshold States

Abstract:In this paper we investigate $1/N$ corrections to mesonic spectrum in $1+1$-dimensional Quantum Chromodynamics ($\text{QCD}_2$) with fundamental quarks using effective Hamiltonian method. We express the corrections in terms of 't Hooft equation solutions. First, we consider 2-flavor model with a heavy and a light quark. We show that, in contrast to some claims in earlier literature, the $1/N$ correction to the mass of the heavy-light meson remains finite when the light quark mass is taken to zero. Nevertheless, the corrections become significantly larger in this limit; we attribute this to the presence of massless modes in the spectrum. We also study the corrections to the lightest meson mass in 1-flavor model and show that they are consistent with recent numerical data, but not with the prediction coming from bosonization. Then we study low energy effective theory for 2 flavors. We show that the 3-meson interaction vertex correctly reproduces Wess-Zumino-Witten (WZW) coupling when both quarks become massless. This coupling does not change even if one of the quarks is massive. We employ Discretized Light Cone Quatization (DLCQ) to check the continuum results and show that the improved version can be used for small quark mass. Finally, we study the states associated with $1\to 2$ meson thresholds. Using degenerate perturbation theory, we show that when the decay is allowed by parity, the infinite $N$ theory has near-threshold bound states that mix one- and two-meson parts. They are $1/3$ two-meson and $2/3$ one-meson and the corrections to their masses have unusual scaling $\sim 1/N^{2/3}$.
