Abstract:The scenario of light gluinos and light sbottoms was advocated to explain the discrepancy between the measured and theoretical production of b quarks at the Tevatron. This scenario will have model-independent predictions for Z-->qqgg at the Z0 pole, and e(+)e(-)-->qqgg at LEPII. We show that the data for Z-->qqg*-->qqbb; at LEPI cannot constrain the scenario, because the ratio Gamma(Z-->qqgg)/Gamma(Z-->qqg*-->qqbb)=0.15-0.04 for m(g)=12-16 GeV is smaller than the uncertainty of the data. However, at LEPII the ratio sigma(e(+)e(-)-->qqgg)/sigma(e(+)e(-)-->qqg*-->qqbb) approximately 0.4-0.2 for m(g)=12-16 GeV, which may give an observable excess in qqbb events; especially, the 4b events.

Abstract:If a light gluino, with a mass of the order of GeV, exists in the minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard model, then it can contribute to the production rate of the top quark pairs at hadron colliders via $\stackrel{\ifmmode \tilde{}\else \~{}\fi{}}{g}\stackrel{\ifmmode \tilde{}\else \~{}\fi{}}{g}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}t\overline{t}.$ Because the top quark is heavy, the masses of the superpartners of the left-handed and right-handed top quarks can be very different such that a parity-violating observable can be induced in the tree level production process. We discuss the phenomenology of this parity violating asymmetry at the CERN Large Hadron Collider.

Abstract:We study the implications of flavor-changing neutral currents (FCNC's) in a model with the SU(2)(l) x SU(2)(h) x U(1)(Y) electroweak gauge symmetry for several anomalies appearing in b -> sl (l) over bar induced B decays in LHCb data. In this model, SU(2)(l) and SU(2)(h) govern the left-handed fermions in the first two generations and the third generation, respectively. The physical Z and Z' generate the b -> s transition at tree level, leading to additional contributions to the b -> s semileptonic operators O-9,O-10. We find that although B-s-(B) over bar (s) mixing constrains the parameters severely, the model can producevalues of C-9,10(NP) in the range determined by Descotes Genon et al. (Global analysis of b -> sll anomalies, arXiv:1510.04239) for this scenario to improve the global fit of observables in decays induced by the b -> s mu(mu) over bar transition. The Z' boson in this model also generates tree-level FCNC's for the leptonic interactions that can accommodate the experimental central value of R-K = B(B -> K mu(mu) over bar)/B(B -> Ke (e) over bar) = 0.75. In this case, the model predicts sizable branching ratios for B -> Ke (tau) over bar, B -> K tau(e) over bar, and an enhancement of B -> K tau(tau) over bar with respect to its standard model value.

Abstract:Motivated by the recent anomalies in b→sl+l− transitions, we explore a minimal Z′ scenario, in which the Z′ boson has a flavour-changing coupling to charm and top quarks and a flavour-conserving coupling to muons. It is found that such a Z′ boson can explain the current b→sl+l− anomalies, while satisfying other flavour and collider constraints simultaneously. The Z′ boson can be as light as few hundreds GeV. In this case, the t→cμ+μ− decay and the tZ′ associated production at the LHC could provide sensitive probes of such a Z′ boson. As a special feature, the Z′ contributions to all rare B- and K-meson processes are controlled by one parameter. This results in interesting correlations among these processes, which could provide further insights into this scenario. In addition, an extended scenario, in which the Z′ boson interacts with the SU(2)L fermion doublets with analogous couplings as in the minimal scenario, is also investigated.

Abstract:A recent LHCb measurement of the ratio ${R}_{{K}^{*}}$ of $B\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{K}^{*}\ensuremath{\mu}\overline{\ensuremath{\mu}}$ to $B\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{K}^{*}e\overline{e}$ branching fractions has produced results in mild tension with the standard model (SM). This adds to the known anomalies also induced by the $b\ensuremath{\rightarrow}s\ensuremath{\ell}\overline{\ensuremath{\ell}}$ transitions, resulting in a confidence level now as high as $4\ensuremath{\sigma}$. We analyze whether the parameter space preferred by all the $b\ensuremath{\rightarrow}s\ensuremath{\ell}\overline{\ensuremath{\ell}}$ anomalies is compatible with a heavy ${Z}^{\ensuremath{'}}$ boson assumed to have nonuniversal couplings to SM fermions dictated by the principle of minimal flavor violation (MFV). We deal with the MFV couplings of the ${Z}^{\ensuremath{'}}$ to leptons in the context of the type-I seesaw scenario for generating neutrino masses. The flavor-violating ${Z}^{\ensuremath{'}}$ interactions are subject to stringent constraints from other processes, especially $B\text{\ensuremath{-}}\overline{B}$ mixing, charged lepton decays ${\ensuremath{\ell}}_{i}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\ell}}_{j}{\ensuremath{\ell}}_{k}{\overline{\ensuremath{\ell}}}_{l}$ occurring at tree level, and the loop induced $\ensuremath{\mu}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}e\ensuremath{\gamma}$. We perform scans for parameter regions allowed by various data and predict the ranges for a number of observables. Some of the predictions, such as the branching fractions of lepton-flavor violating $\ensuremath{\tau}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}3\ensuremath{\mu}$, $B\ensuremath{\rightarrow}Ke\ensuremath{\mu}$, ${K}_{L}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}e\ensuremath{\mu}$, and $Z\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\ell}{\ensuremath{\ell}}^{\ensuremath{'}}$, are not far below their experimental bounds and therefore could be probed by searches in the near future. The viable parameter space depends strongly on the neutrino mass hierarchy, with a preference for the inverted one.

The $Z$ boson in the Framed Standard Model

Abstract:The framed standard model (FSM), constructed initially for explaining the existence of three fermion generations and the hierarchical mass and mixing patterns of quarks and leptons, suggests also a "hidden sector" of particles including some dark matter candidates. It predicts in addition a new vector boson $G$, with mass of order TeV, which mixes with the $\gamma$ and $Z$ of the standard model yielding deviations from the standard mixing scheme, all calculable in terms of a single unknown parameter $m_G$. Given that standard mixing has been tested already to great accuracy by experiment, this could lead to contradictions, but it is shown here that for the three crucial and testable cases so far studied (i) $m_Z - m_W$, (ii) $\Gamma(Z \rightarrow \ell^ + \ell^-)$, (iii) $\Gamma(Z \rightarrow$ hadrons), the deviations are all within the present stringent experimental bounds provided $m_G > 1$ TeV, but should soon be detectable if experimental accuracy improves. This comes about because of some subtle cancellations, which might have a deeper reason that is not yet understood. By virtue of mixing, $G$ can be produced at the LHC and appear as a $\ell^+ \ell^-$ anomaly. If found, it will be of interest not only for its own sake but serve also as a window on to the "hidden sector" into which it will mostly decay, with dark matter candidates as most likely products.

Abstract:SuperB experiment could represent an ideal environment to test a new U(1) symmetry related to light dark forces candidates. A promising discovery channel is represented by the resonant production of a boson U, followed by its decay into lepton pairs. Beyond approximations adopted in the literature, an exact tree level calculation of the radiative processes e+e− → γ,U → μ+μ− γ, e+e− γ and corresponding QED backgrounds is performed, including also the most important higher-order corrections. The calculation is implemented in a release of the generator BabaYaga@NLO useful for data analysis and interpretation. The distinct features of U boson production are shown and the statistical significance is analysed.
Dark matter, leptogenesis and Z' in the B-L model

Abstract:We discuss the interplay between dark matter, leptogenesis and a new gauge boson $Z^\prime$ in the $B-L$ model. A fermion dark matter $\chi$ carrying $U(1)_{B-L}$ charge is introduced to the model but not coupling with other particles. We consider the freeze-out and freeze-in mechanisms, and obtain the correct relic density respectively. We have scanned the feasible parameter space and found that the dark matter direct detection experiments imposed the most stringent constraints on the parameter space. The constraint on the parameter space places a limit on the mass of dark matter with $m_{\chi} \approx 1/2 M_{Z'}$ within a narrow region in the case of freeze-out scenario, and we can obtain the right baryon asymmetry result in the case of $m_{\chi}\subset[654$ GeV, 664 GeV]. For the freeze-in scenario, we have a much broader parameter space for $m_{\chi}$ and $M_{Z^\prime}$ but $g_{BL}$ is restricted at $10^{-5}$ level for $Q=0.1$. In both scenarios, $g_{BL}-M_{Z^\prime}$ is limited within a narrow region by the dark matter relic density, direct detection and baryon asymmetry constraints.

Confronting the Galactic 511 keV emission with $B-L$ gauge boson dark matter

Abstract:The $B-L$ gauge symmetry motivated from the successful generation of the seesaw mechanism and leptogenesis. We show that if the $B-L$ gauge boson constitutes a small fraction of the dark matter (DM) it can explain the Galactic $511$ keV emission via the decay into an electron-positron pair. We find the model parameter space that is consistent with the seesaw mechanism, cosmologically viable, and accounting for the amplitude of the Galactic positron line. From this parameter space we derive an upper bound of the gauge boson mass and then an bound of the positron injection energy $\lesssim3$ MeV. This derived energy bound is consistent with the observational upper limit of the injection energy. The resultant model predicts the $B-L$ breaking scale to be in a relatively narrow range, i.e., $V_{B\textrm{--}L}\sim10^{15} \textrm{--} 10^{16} $GeV, which is consistent with a Grand Unification (GUT) scale seesaw mechanism. The model is consistent in several phenomenologies, suggesting their common origin from the B-L symmetry breaking.

Flavor Specific $U(1)_{B_q-L_\mu}$ Gauge Model for Muon $g-2$ and $b \to s \bar \mu \mu$ Anomalies

Abstract:When combining the recent measurement $g-2$ of muon from Fermilab and the previous result from BNL, the deviation from the standard model (SM) prediction increased to 4.2$\sigma$ level. This anomaly is a strong hint of new physics which generates extensive theoretical studies of new physics beyond the SM. There are also recent new data enforcing anomalies in the measurement of $R_{K}$ from $B \to K \bar \mu \mu$ and increasing the confidence level to 3.1$\sigma$ for $b\to s \bar \mu \mu$ induced anomalies. These anomalies indicate that there may be new interaction specific to muon and all these anomalies are related. We propose a flavor specific $U(1)_{B_q-L_\mu}$ gauged interaction to explain these anomalies. The new gauge boson $Z'$ has a vector-like interaction to muon. This provides a solution to the muon $g-2$ anomaly. Requiring the new gauge coupling to be below non-perturbative unitary bound, $Z'$ mass is constrained to be less than 700 GeV. $b\to s \bar \mu \mu$ induced rare B decay anomalies are solved by a small mixing due to $Z'$ coupling for $b\to s$ transition. Effects of $U(1)_Y$ and $U(1)_{B_q-L_\mu}$ kinetic mixing on these anomalies will also be discussed.

Abstract:Combining the b -> s mu(+)mu(-) anomaly and dark matter observables, we study the capability of the LHC to test dark matter, Z', and a vector-like quark. We focus on a local U(1)(L mu-Lt) model with a vector-like SU(2)(L) doublet quark Q and a complex singlet scalar whose lightest component X-I is a candidate of dark matter. After imposing relevant constraints, we find that the b -> s mu(+)mu(-) anomaly and the relic abundance of dark matter favor m(XI) < 350 GeV and m(Z') < 450 GeV for m(Q) < 2 TeV and m(XR) < 2 TeV (the heavy partner of m(XI)). Current searches for jets and missing transverse momentum at the LHC sizably reduce the mass ranges of the vector-like quark, and m(Q) is required to be larger than 1.7 TeV. Finally, we discuss the possibility of probing these new particles at the high luminosity LHC via the QCD process pp -> D (D) over bar followed by D -> s(b)(XI), D -> s(b)Z'X-I, and then Z' -> mu(+)mu(-). Taking a benchmark point of m(Q) = 1.93 TeV, m(Z') = 170 GeV, and mX(I) = 145 GeV, we perform a detailed Monte Carlo simulation and find that this benchmark point can be accessed at the 14 TeV LHC with an integrated luminosity of 3000 fb(-1).

Abstract:We computed the O(α3) virtual gluino correction to the process Z → b in the minimal supersymmetric standard model, and investigated the dependence of the process on gluino and squark masses. For some values of masses, the correction implies about 7%-12% additional decrease of the ratio Γ (Z → b)/Γ(Z → hadrons) relative to the standard model expectation.

Abstract:Rare B meson decays offer an opportunity to probe a light hidden Z ′ boson. In this work we explore a new channel B q → γ Z ′ ( q = d , s ) followed by a cascade decay of Z ′ into an invisible (neutrino or dark matter) or charged lepton pair ℓ + ℓ − ( ℓ = e , μ ). The study is based on a simplified effective model where the down quark sector has tiny flavor-changing neutral current couplings with Z ′ . For the first time, we calculate BR ( B q → γ Z ′ ) at the leading power of 1 / m b and 1 / E γ . Confronting with the strong constraints from semi-invisible decays of B meson, we find that the branching ratio for B d → invisible + γ can be larger than its Standard Model background prediction, leaving a large room for new physics, in particular for light dark matter. Additionally, the branching ratio for B d → e + e − γ can also be sizable when the corresponding flavor violating Z ′ coupling to quarks is of the axial-vector type. On the other hand, the predicted branching ratios of B d → μ + μ − γ and B s → ℓ + ℓ − γ are severely constrained by the experimental measurements.

Abstract:The existing anomalies appearing in decays of the form b→ s ℓ^+ ℓ^- constitute a possible hint for new physics. We point out that modifications to the SM results due to heavy neutrinos could account for the observed deviations while satisfying existing constraints from lepton flavor violating processes. The required mixing angle, however, is an order of magnitude larger than suggested by recent global fits to lepton flavor conserving processes. We frame our discussion in terms of a Type-I seesaw model, but it can be made more general.
$B$ Anomalies and Dark Matter in an $L_μ-L_τ$ Model with General Kinetic Mixing

Abstract:We revisit the $L_\mu - L_\tau$ extension of the Standard Model that can simultaneously address anomalies in semileptonic $B$ meson decays and the nature of dark matter (DM). In the region favored by the $B$ anomalies, this scenario is excluded by a combination of low-energy flavor constraints and stringent DM direct detection constraints if the kinetic mixing between $Z^\prime$ gauge boson and the photon vanishes at high energy scales, since this leads to a sizable coupling between DM and the SM in low-momentum scattering processes. However, this is no longer the case if the kinetic mixing vanishes at low energy scales instead. In this scenario, the low-momentum DM scattering rate can be suppressed and constraints from direct detection experiments can be substantially relaxed. As a result, we find a re-opening of the region of parameter space where the $B$ anomalies and DM can be simultaneously explained.

Associated production of Z boson and a pair of new quarks at the LHC

Abstract:The associated production of $Z$ boson and a pair of new quarks at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is studied. The cross sections for both sequential fermions and vector-like fermions are presented. It is found that for sequential fermions the cross sections can reach $1\sim 10^2$ fb for heavy quark mass $m_Q$ from 1000 GeV to 200 GeV. For vector-like quarks, the cross sections are suppressed by mixing parameter $\sin\theta_L$. Focusing on process $pp \to b'b'$, we investigate the possibility of detecting the $6l+2j$ signal. For a $b'$ with light mass and a large branching ratio of $b'\to bZ$, it is found that only several signal events (parton level) can be produced with 1000 fb$^{-1}$ integrated luminosity. Although the signal events are rare, all the final states are produced centrally and multi lepton final states are clear at hadron collider, which could be easily detected.

Abstract:In a supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model(SM) where baryon and lepton numbers are local gauge symmetries (BLMSSM), we investigate the charged lepton flavor violating (CLFV) processes $Z\rightarrow l_i^{\pm}l_j^{\mp}$ after introducing the new gauginos and the right-handed neutrinos. In this model, the branching ratios of $Z\rightarrow l_i^{\pm}l_j^{\mp}$ are around ($10^{-8}\sim10^{-10}$), which approach the present experimental upper bounds. We hope that the branching ratios for these CLFV processes can be detected in the near future.
