Abstract:In view of new precise measurements of the $\bar B\to D^*\ell \bar\nu$ decay rate near zero recoil, we reconsider the theoretical uncertainties in the extraction of $| V_{cb}|$ using heavy quark symmetry. In particular, we combine our previous estimate of $1/m_Q^2$ corrections to the normalization of the hadronic form factor at zero recoil with sum rules derived by Shifman {\it et al}. to obtain a new prediction with less theoretical uncertainty. We also summarize the status of the calculation of short-distance corrections, and of the slope of the form factor at zero recoil. We find ${\cal F}(1)=\eta_A \hat\xi(1)=0.93\pm 0.03$ and $\hat\varrho^2=0.7\pm 0.2$. Combining this with the most recent experimental results, we obtain the model-independent value $| V_{cb}|=0.040\pm 0.003$.

Measurements of $|V_{cb}|$ and $|V_{ub}|$ from Belle and Belle II

Abstract:This proceeding summarizes recent measurements of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) matrix elements $|V_{cb}|$ and $|V_{ub}|$ at the Belle and Belle~II experiments. It provides insights derived from both exclusive and inclusive determinations. Preliminary results from Belle~II are discussed, focusing on $B^0\to D^{*-}\ell^+ \nu$ and $B^{0} \to \pi^{-} \ell^{+} \nu$ utilizing $189 \, \mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ data collected at the $\Upsilon(4S)$ resonance. This reveals the derived branching fractions and $|V_{xb}|$. The shape measurement of $B \to D^{*} \ell \nu$ at Belle extracted $|V_{cb}|$ employing new lattice-QCD calculations as input and provided additional tests on the universality of light lepton flavors. In the realm of inclusive decay, the measurement for $|V_{ub}|$ and the differential spectra of $B \to X_{u} \ell \nu$ decays have been performed. This presentation also encapsulates the new analyses of $|V_{ub}|^{\mathrm{excl}}/|V_{ub}|^{\mathrm{incl}}$ and $|V_{ub}|^{\mathrm{incl}}/|V_{cb}|^{\mathrm{incl}}$ ratios.

Abstract:A reliable determination of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element $|V_{cb}|$ is mandatory for precision flavor physics and for the search for CP violating phases from new, heavy particles. In this article, we review the theory of the determination of $|V_{cb}|$ from inclusive semileptonic $B$ decays. We discuss the available measurements of the semileptonic $B$ branching fraction and other inclusive observables in B decays relevant to the determination of $|V_{cb}|$. Finally, we perform a global fit to extract $|V_{cb}|$ and the $b$-quark mass $m_b$.

New determination of $|V_{ub}/V_{cb}|$ from $B_s^0\to \lbrace K^-, D_s^- \rbrace μ^+ν$

Abstract:We update the full set of $\bar{B}_s\rightarrow K$ form factors using light-cone sum rules with an on-shell kaon. Our approach determines the relevant sum rule parameters -- the duality thresholds -- from a Bayesian fit for the first time. Using a modified version of the Boyd-Grinstein-Lebed parametrisation, we combine our sum rule results at low momentum transfer $q^2$ with more precise lattice QCD results at large $q^2$. We obtain a consistent description of the form factors in the full $q^2$ range. Applying these results to a recent LHCb measurement of branching ratios for the decays $B_s^0 \to \lbrace K^-, D_s^-\rbrace \mu^+\nu_\mu$, we determine the ratio of Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa elements $$ \notag \left|\frac{V_{ub}}{V_{cb}}\right|_{q^2<7\; \textrm{GeV}^2} = 0.0681\pm 0.0040 \quad \text{and} \quad \left|\frac{V_{ub}}{V_{cb}}\right|_{q^2>7 \;\textrm{GeV}^2} = 0.0801\pm 0.0047 \ , $$ which are mutually compatible at the $1.9\sigma$ level. We further comment on the sensitivity to Beyond the Standard Model effects through measurements of the shape of $B_s^0 \to K^- \mu^+\nu_\mu$ decays, in light of recent limits on such effects from other exclusive $b\to u\ell\nu$ processes.

$V_{cb}$ puzzle in semi-leptonic $B\to D^*$ decays revisited

Abstract:Inspired by the newly reported $B\to D^*(\to D\pi)\ell\bar{\nu}_\ell$ differential decay rates by the Belle and Belle II Collaborations, we revisit the $V_{cb}$ puzzle in semi-leptonic $B\to D^*$ decays, considering the latest lattice QCD simulations and light-cone sum rule results. We examine the commonly used Caprini-Lellouch-Neubert (CLN), Boyd-Grinstein-Lebed (BGL), and heavy quark effective theory (HQET) parameterizations. We show that these three parameterizations lead to consistent results and reconfirm the $V_{cb}$ puzzle. Then, we use a state-of-the-art Bayesian method to estimate the impact of higher-order terms beyond the present HQET expansion on the uncertainty of $V_{cb}$. We show that higher-order effects cannot eliminate the deviation between the exclusive and inclusive determinations of $V_{cb}$. Finally, utilizing the best-fit results obtained in the HQET parameterization as inputs, we predict the relevant observables, i.e., $R_{D^*}$, $F_L^{D^*}$, and $P_\tau^{D^*}$, sensitive to new physics in the $B\to D^*\ell\bar{\nu}_\ell$ decays. We conclude that lepton-universality violations still exist in the $b\to c\tau\nu$ transitions.

Abstract:Form factors for 0(-) --> 0(-) and 0(-) --> 1(-) mesonic transitions in the heavy quark limit and the 1/m(Q) corrections are analyzed model independently within the Bethe-Salpeter (BS) formalism. The analysis shows that the BS formalism has spin-flavor symmetry in the heavy quark limit and respects Luke's theorem when the 1/m(Q) corrections are taken into account. All form factors for B-->D(*) transitions beyond the zero recoil point are estimated in a relativistic constituent quark model based on the BS formalism. Using these form factors we calculate the branching ratios for the semileptonic decays B --> D(*)l(+)v(l) and extract the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element \V-cb\. We get \V-cb\ = 0.042 +/- 0.003 which is consistent with the current world average.
Inclusive $|V_{cb}|$ determination in $\overline{\mathrm{MS}}$ mass scheme using dual-space-renormalon-subtraction method

Abstract:We determine $|V_{cb}|$ from the inclusive semileptonic decay width of the $B$ meson with the known N$^3$LO perturbative coefficients for the first time in the $\overline{\mathrm{MS}}$ mass scheme. We make use of a recently developed method, dual-space-renormalon-subtraction (DSRS) method, to separate and subtract the order $\Lambda_{\rm QCD}^2/m_b$ infrared renormalon. This allows us to perform the analysis accurately in the $\overline{\mathrm{MS}}$ mass scheme, in which otherwise the perturbative series does not converge well up to the currently calculated perturbation order. Our result reads $|V_{cb}|=0.0415\,(^{+10}_{-12})$, which is consistent with the previous results based on other mass schemes and showing an independent cross check of the current theoretical evaluation of the inclusive decay width.

Abstract:In these proceedings for CIPANP2015 we present a brief overview of the current status of the theoretical approaches used by our group for the extraction of $|V_{cb}|$ and $|V_{ub}|$ through inclusive semi-leptonic $B$ decays. We discuss the calculations and implications of the recent perturbative corrections to power-suppressed contributions for $|V_{cb}|$, and present an overview of the major sources of theoretical uncertainty for $|V_{ub}|$.

Abstract:QCD sum rules are employed to determine whether the $X(3872)$ can be described as a mixed state that couples to ${J}^{PC}={1}^{++}$ charmonium hybrid and $\overline{D}{D}^{*}$ molecular currents. After calculating the mixed correlator of hybrid and molecular currents, we formulate the sum rule in terms of a mixing parameter that interpolates between the pure molecular and hybrid scenarios. As the mixing parameter is increased from the pure molecular case, the predicted mass increases until it reaches a maximum value in good agreement with the $X(3872)$ and the resulting sum-rule analysis appears more robust than the pure molecular case.
Searching for $|V_{cd}|$ through the exclusive decay $D_s^+ \to K^0e^+ν_e$ within QCD Sum Rules

Abstract:In this paper, we carry out an investigation into the semileptonic decays $D_s^+ \to K^0\ell^+\nu_\ell$ with $\ell=(e,\mu)$ by employing the QCD light-cone sum rules approach. The vector transition form factor (TFF) $f_+^{D_s^+ K^0}(q^2)$ for $D_s^+\to K^0$ decay is calculated while considering its next-to-leading order contribution. Subsequently, we briefly introduce the twist-2, 3 kaon distribution amplitudes, which are calculated by using QCD sum rules within the framework of the background field theory. At the large recoil point, the TFF has $f_+^{D_s^+ K^0}(0)=0.692_{-0.026}^{+0.027}$. Then, we extrapolate $f_+^{D_s^+ K^0}(q^2)$ to the whole physical $q^2$-region via the simplified $z(q^2,t)$-series expansion, and the behavior of TFF $f_+^{D_s^+ K^0}(q^2)$ is exhibited in the numerical results part, including the theoretical and experimental predictions for comparison. In addition, we compute the differential branching fraction $\mathcal{B}(D_s^+ \to K^0\ell^+\nu_\ell)$ with the electron and muon channels, which are expected to be $\mathcal{B}(D_s^+ \to K^0e^+\nu_e)=3.379_{-0.275}^{+0.301}\times 10^{-3}$ and $\mathcal{B}(D_s^+ \to K^0\mu^+\nu_\mu)=3.351_{-0.273}^{+0.299}\times 10^{-3}$ as well as contained other results for comparison. Our results show good agreement with the BESIII measurements and theoretical predictions. Furthermore, we present our prediction with respect to the CKM matrix element $|V_{cd}|$ by using the $\mathcal{B}(D_s^+ \to K^0e^+\nu_e)$ result from BESIII Collaboration, yielding $|V_{cd}|=0.221_{-0.010}^{+0.008}$. Finally, we provide the ratio between $D_s^+ \to K^0e^+\nu_e$ and $D_s^+ \to \eta e^+\nu_e$ channels, i.e. $\mathcal{R}_{K^0/\eta}^e=0.144_{-0.020}^{+0.028}$.

Pushing the Heavy Quark Expansion for $b\to cl\barν$ to Higher Order in $1/m_b$

Abstract:The Heavy Quark Expansion (HQE) is the major tool to perform calculations for inclusive semileptonic $B\to X_cl\bar{\nu}$ and, consequently, for precision determinations of the CKM matrix element $V_{cb}$. To further improve precision, we pushed the expansion to $1/m_b^5$ to include even higher order terms in the HQE. Notably, at $1/m_b^5$, ``intrinsic charm'' (IC) contributions proportional to $1/(m_b^3m_c^2)$ occur, which are numerically expected to be sizeable. We will therefore firstly discuss the determination of a reduced set of HQE parameters at $1/m_b^5$, employing Reparametrisation Invariance (RPI) to this end. Consequently, we will show how the IC and ``genuine" $1/m_b^5$ contribute to the different kinematical moments of $B\to X_cl\bar{\nu}$, focusing in this work on the lepton energy $E_l$ moments. Using the ``lowest-lying state saturation ansatz'' (LLSA), we estimate the size of these contributions and observe a partial cancellation between the IC and ``genuine'' $1/m_b^5$ contributions, leading to an overall small contribution.

Updates on the determination of $\vert V_{cb} \vert$, $R(D^{*})$ and $\vert V_{ub} \vert/\vert V_{cb} \vert$

Abstract:We present an updated determination of the values of $\vert V_{cb} \vert$, $R(D^*)$ and $\vert V_{ub} \vert/\vert V_{cb} \vert$ based on the new data on semileptonic $B \to D^* \ell \nu_\ell$ decays by the Belle and Belle-II Collaborations and on the recent theoretical progress in the calculation of the form factors relevant for semileptonic $B \to D^* \ell \nu_\ell$ and $B_s \to K \ell \nu_\ell$ decays. In particular we present results derived by applying either the Dispersive Matrix (DM) method of Refs. [1-6] or the more standard Boyd-Grinstein-Lebed (BGL) [7] approach to the most recent values of the form factors determined in lattice QCD. Using all the available lattice results for the form factors from the DM method we get the theoretical value $R^{\rm th}(D^*) = 0.262 \pm 0.009$ and we extract from a bin-per-bin analysis of the experimental data the value $\vert V_{cb} \vert = (39.92 \pm 0.64) \cdot10^{-3}$. Our result for $R(D^*)$ is consistent with the latest experimental world average $R^{\rm exp}(D^*) = 0.284 \pm 0.012$ [8]} at the $\simeq 1.5\,\sigma$ level. Our value for $\vert V_{cb} \vert$ is compatible with the latest inclusive determinations $\vert V_{cb} \vert^{\rm incl} = (41.97 \pm 0.48) \cdot 10^{-3}$ [9] and $\vert V_{cb} \vert^{\rm incl} = (41.69\pm 0.63) \cdot 10^{-3}$ [10] within $\simeq 2.6$ and $\simeq 2.0$ standard deviations, respectively. From a reappraisal of the calculations of $\vert V_{ub} \vert / \vert V_{cb} \vert$, we also obtain $\vert V_{ub} \vert / \vert V_{cb} \vert = 0.087\pm 0.009$ in good agreement with the result $\vert V_{ub} \vert / \vert V_{cb} \vert = 0.0844\pm 0.0056$ from the latest FLAG review [11].

Constraint on the Light Quark Mass M(Q) from Qcd Sum Rules in the I=0 Scalar Channel

Abstract:In this paper, we reanalyze the I = 0 scalar channel with the improved Monte-Carlo-based QCD sum rules, which combines the rigorous Holder-inequality-determined sum rule window and a parametrization with two-Breit-Wigner-type resonances for the phenomenological spectral density that satisfies the low-energy theorem for the scalar form factor. Considering the uncertainties of the QCD parameters and the experimental masses and widths of the scalar resonances sigma and f(0)(980), we obtain a prediction for light quark mass m(q) (2 GeV) = 1/2 (m(u)(2 GeV) + m(d)(2 GeV)) = 4.7(-0.7)(+0.8) MeV, which is consistent with the Particle Data Group value and QCD sum rule determinations in the pseudoscalar channel. This agreement provides a consistent framework connecting QCD sum rules and low-energy hadronic physics. We also obtain the decay constants of sigma and f(0)(980) at 2 GeV, which are approximately 0.64-0.83 and 0.40-0.48 GeV, respectively.
Extractions of $|V_{ub}|/|V_{cb}|$ from a combined study of the exclusive $b\to u(c) \ellν_{\ell}$ decays

Abstract:We have extracted the ratio $|V_{ub}|/|V_{cb}|$ from a combined study of the available inputs on $\bar{B}\to (\pi,\rho,\omega)\ell^- \bar{\nu}_{\ell}$ and $\bar{B}(\bar{B}_s)\to (D^{(\ast)}, D_s^{(\ast)})\ell^- \bar{\nu}_{\ell}$ ($\ell = \mu$ or $e$) decays. We have done our analysis with and without the inclusion of the available experimental results on the branching fraction $\mathcal{BR}(\bar{B}_s\to K^+\mu^-\bar{\nu}_{\mu})$ or the ratio of the rates $\Gamma(\bar{B}_s\to K^+ \ell^-\bar{\nu}_{\ell})/ \Gamma(\bar{B}_s \to D_s^+ \ell^- \bar{\nu}_{\ell})$. We have used all the available experimental data on the branching fractions in different $q^2$-bins, the available theory inputs on the form factors from lattice and the light cone sum rule (LCSR) approach; analysed the data in different possible scenarios and presented the results. From a combined analysis of all the $b\to c\ell^- \bar{\nu}_{\ell}$ exclusive decays, we have obtained $|V_{cb}|=(40.5 \pm 0.6)\times 10^{-3}$ and from all the $b\to u\ell^- \bar{\nu}_{\ell}$ modes, we obtain $|V_{ub}|=(3.46\pm 0.12)\times 10^{-3}$ which changes to $|V_{ub}|=(3.51 \pm 0.13)\times 10^{-3}$ after dropping $\mathcal{BR}(\bar{B}_s\to K^+\mu^-\bar{\nu}_{\mu})$. We hence report the values of the ratio $|V_{ub}|/|V_{cb}| = 0.085 \pm 0.003$ and $0.087 \pm 0.003$ with and without the input from $\bar{B}_s\to K^+\mu^-\bar{\nu}_{\mu}$ modes, respectively. We have also predicted the ratio $\Gamma(\bar{B}_s\to K^+ \ell^-\bar{\nu}_{\ell})/ \Gamma(\bar{B}_s \to D_s^+ \ell^- \bar{\nu}_{\ell})$ using the fit results. In addition, we provide the predictions of $\mathcal{BR}(\bar{B}_s\to K^+\mu^-\bar{\nu}_{\mu})$ and $\mathcal{BR}(\bar{B}\to (\rho,\omega)\ell^- \bar{\nu}_{\ell})$ in the Standard Model (SM) in small $q^2$-bins.

Determination of $|V_{ub}|$ from exclusive baryonic $B$ decays

Abstract:We use the exclusive baryonic $B$ decays to determine the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) matrix element $V_{ub}$. From the relation $|V_{ub}|^2/|V_{cb}|^2=({\cal B}_\pi/{\cal B}_D){\cal R}_{ff}$ based on $B^-\to p\bar p \pi^-$ and $\bar B^0\to p\bar p D^0$ decays, where $|V_{cb}|$ and ${\cal B}_\pi/{\cal B}_D\equiv{\cal B}(B^-\to p\bar p \pi^-)/{\cal B}(\bar B^0\to p\bar p D^0)$ are the data input parameters, while ${\cal R}_{ff}$ is the one fixed by the $B\to p\bar p$ transition matrix elements, we find $|V_{ub}|=(3.48^{+0.87}_{-0.63}\pm 0.40\pm 0.07)\times 10^{-3}$ with the errors corresponding to the uncertainties from ${\cal R}_{ff}$, ${\cal B}_\pi/{\cal B}_D$ and $|V_{cb}|$, respectively. Being independent of the previous results, our determination of $|V_{ub}|$ has the central value close to those from the exclusive $\bar B\to \pi\ell\bar \nu_\ell$ and $\Lambda_b\to p\mu^-\bar \nu_\mu$ decays, but overlaps the one from the inclusive $\bar B\to X_u \ell\bar \nu_\ell$ with the current uncertainties. The extraction of $|V_{ub}|$ in the baryonic $B$ decays is clearly very useful for the complete determination of the CKM matrix elements as well as the exploration of new physics.

New results on $|V_{ub}|$ using inclusive and exclusive $B$ decays from the Belle experiment

Abstract:We present two recent measurements of semileptonic B decays at Belle, offering valuable insights into the determination of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) matrix element $|V_{ub}|$. These analyses use the full Belle dataset, comprising $772 \times 10^6$ $B\bar{B}$ pairs collected at the $\Upsilon(4S)$ resonance. With an innovative strategy, the inclusive $B \to X_u \ell \nu$ and exclusive $B \to \pi \ell \nu$ decays are simultaneously analyzed for the first time, and the $|V_{ub}|$ ratio is extracted as $|V_{ub}^{\mathrm{excl.}}|/|V_{ub}^{\mathrm {incl.}}|=0.97 \pm 0.12$. Furthermore, we provide preliminary results for the inclusive branching fractions ratio of $B \to X_u \ell \nu$ and $B \to X_c \ell \nu$ decays, accompanied by additional interpretations aimed at deriving the inclusive $|V_{ub}|/|V_{cb}|$ ratio.

Axial vector (J PC = 1 ++) charmonium and bottomonium hybrid mass predictions with QCD sum-rules

Abstract:Axial vector (J(PC) = 1(++)) charmonium and bottomonium hybrid masses are determined via QCD Laplace sum-rules. Previous sum-rule studies in this channel did not incorporate the dimension-six gluon condensate, which has been shown to be important for 1(--) and 0(-+) heavy quark hybrids. An updated analysis of axial vector charmonium and bottomonium hybrids is presented, including the effects of the dimension-six gluon condensate. The axial vector charmonium and bottomonium hybrid masses are predicted to be 5.13 and 11.32 GeV, respectively. We discuss the implications of this result for the charmonium-like 'XYZ' states and the charmonium hybrid multiplet structure observed in recent lattice calculations.

Abstract:We perform the simultaneous $|V_{ub}|$ and $|V_{cb}|$ extractions with only the exclusive $\Lambda_b$ decays of $\Lambda_b\to (p,\Lambda_c^+)\mu\bar \nu_\mu$, $\Lambda_b\to p\pi^-$ and $\Lambda_b\to \Lambda_c^+ (\pi^-, D^-)$. We obtain that $|V_{ub}|=(3.7\pm 0.3)\times 10^{-3}$ and $|V_{cb}|=(45.9\pm 2.7)\times 10^{-3}$. Our value of $|V_{ub}|$ is larger than that of $(3.27\pm 0.15\pm 0.16\pm 0.06)\times 10^{-3}$, previously extracted by the LHC Collaboration from the exclusive $\Lambda_b$ decays also, but nearly identical to $(3.72\pm 0.19)\times 10^{-3}$ from the exclusive $B$ decays. On the other hand, our extracted result of $|V_{cb}|$ favors the value of $(42.2\pm 0.8)\times 10^{-3}$ from the inclusive $B$ decays.

Abstract:We present a new QCD sum rule with high sensitivity to the continuum regions of charm and bottom quark pair production. Combining this sum rule with existing ones yields very stable results for the msbar quark masses, m_c(m_c)$ and m_b (m_b). Comparison of our approach with experimental data allows for a robust theoretical error estimate. We have also provided a new evaluation of the lifetime of the tau lepton, serving as a strong constraint on alpha_s.
