Abstract:We investigated the effects of hemorrhagic shock and reinfusion on the cardiac function and contractility, plasma CK and CK-MB activity and lactate concentration, oxyradical-producing activity of polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNL-CL), cardiac chemiluminescence (LV-CL), antioxidant enzymatic activity [superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase, glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px)], and malondialdehyde (MDA) concentration in anesthetized dogs, to determine the role of oxyradicals in cardiac depression and cellular injury in hemorrhagic shock and reinfusion. The dogs were assigned to four groups: group I (sham), 4 hrs duration; group II, 4 hr of shock; group III, 2 hr of shock, followed by reinfusion for 2 hr; and group IV, as in group III, but pretreated with SOD and catalase. Hemorrhagic shock was produced by withdrawing blood to maintain the mean arterial pressure at 50 +/- 5 mm Hg. Cardiac function and contractility were depressed during hemorrhagic shock. Plasma CK; CK-MB and lactate; and cardiac MDA, Mn-SOD, and CuZn-SOD increased, while catalase activity decreased during shock. Following reinfusion after 2 hr of shock, hemodynamic parameters and plasma lactate tended to return toward control values. Plasma CK and CK-MB, PMNL-CL and cardiac MDA, total SOD, Mn- and CuZn-SOD increased further, while LV-CL and GSH-Px decreased. In spite of the increased antioxidant reserve, oxidative damage was noted. Pretreatment with SOD and catalase attenuated the deleterious effects of shock and reinfusion on the cardiovascular function, plasma CK, CK-MB, and lactate, PMNL-CL, cardiac MDA and SOD, and LV-CL. Protection was incomplete for cardiovascular function and plasma CK and CK-MB. These results suggest that oxyradicals (O2-, H2O2) may be partly involved in the deterioration of cardiovascular function and cellular injury during hemorrhagic shock and reinfusion.

Abstract:Abstract In a time of rapid change in birth and death rates demographers need to know the consequences of such changes for age distribution. Does the fall in death rates tend to make the age distribution older? It certainly enables individuals to grow older, but for population aggregates the effect depends on the ages at which mortality improves. Coale, Stolnitz, Schwarz, Lorimer, the United Nations and other writers have investigated trends in age-specific birth and death rates. In particular they have demonstrated that the falling mortality which is now nearly universal does not generally make the population older and sometimes makes it younger. The present article contributes a technique for further examination of this phenomenon.
Protective Effect of Edaravone on Free Radical Reaction after Cerebral Hemorrhage

Abstract:Objective To observe the free radical reaction following cerebral hemorrhage and to explore the protective effect of Edaravone during this course. Methods 65 patients with acute cerebral hemorrhage(patient group) and 100 age- and sex-matched healthy people(healthy control group) were enrolled in this study. The former was further randomly divided into two groups: routine treatment group and Edaravone group. Plasma levels of nitric oxide(P-NO), vitamin C(P-VC), vitamin E(P-VE),β-carotene(P-β-CAR) and lipoperoxide(P-LPO), activities of superoxide dismutase(E-SOD), catalase(E-CAT), glutathioneperoxidase(E-GSH-Px) and lipoperoxide level (E-LPO) in erythrocytes of healthy control group were determined by spectrophotometry. The level and activity changes of these items before treatment and the 3rd and 7th day after management were also recorded both in routine treatment group and edaravone group. Results Compared with healthy control group, the levels of P-NO, P-LPO and E-LPO in patient group significantly increased(P0.01), while those of P-VC, P-VE,P-β-CAR,E-SOD, E-CAT and E-GSH-Px significantly decreased(P0.01) on 3 days after treatment, the levels of P-NO, P-LPO and E-LPO in Edaravone group were obviously lower than those in routine treatment group(P0.01) while the average P-VC, P-VE,P-β-CAR,E-SOD, E-CAT and E-GSH-Px had significantly rised(P0.01). On 7 days after treatment, the differences between the two groups became lessened. Conclusion In patients with acute cerebral hemorrhage there are aggravated pathological oxidative reactions which can be effectively alleviated by Edaravone. It has been shown that has a protective effect on oxidative damage in acute cerebral hemorrhage.
Effects of some radical scavengers on reperfusion-induced arrhythmias in the canine heart

Abstract:In this study, using electron spin resonance (ESR), we investigated the relation at the time of reperfusion between free radicals originating from the mitochondria of the canine myocardium and arrhythmias induced by reperfusion as well as the effect of radical scavengers on both. The left anterior descending artery was ligated just below the first diagonal branch and then reperfused for 10 minutes in 48 adult mongrel dogs. The dogs were divided into six groups consisting of: 1) control group administered no radical scavengers (n = 8), 2) SOD group (n = 6) receiving superoxide dismutase (15,000 U/kg), 3) SOD + CAT group (n = 6) receiving SOD (15,000 U/kg) and catalase (45,000 U/kg), 4) L-SOD group (n = 6) receiving liposomal-encapsulated SOD (30,000 U/kg), 5) CV-3611 (2-O-octadecylascorbic acid) group (n = 8) receiving CV-3611 (10 mg/kg), and 6) CoQ10 group (n = 6) receiving coenzyme Q10 (10 mg/kg). SOD, SOD + CAT, L-SOD, CV-3611, and CoQ10 were administered into the left atrium prior to reperfusion. The second lead of the electrocardiogram was continuously monitored during the experiment. The following results were obtained. 1) The relative intensity (RI) of the electron spin resonance signal of the mitochondria of the reperfused portion of the myocardium was smaller (p less than 0.025) in the SOD, SOD + CAT, L-SOD, CoQ10 groups (1.08 +/- 0.36, 0.92 +/- 0.19, 0.91 +/- 0.11, and 0.81 +/- 0.09, respectively) than in the control group (1.70 +/- 0.20).(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)
Multi‐Resolution Cloth Simulation

Abstract:We propose a novel, multi‐resolution method to efficiently perform large‐scale cloth simulation. Our cloth simulation method is based on a triangle‐based energy model constructed from a cloth mesh. We identify that solutions of the linear system of cloth simulation are smooth in certain regions of the cloth mesh and solve the linear system on those regions in a reduced solution space. Then we reconstruct the original solutions by performing a simple interpolation from solutions computed in the reduced space. In order to identify regions where solutions are smooth, we propose simplification metrics that consider stretching, shear, and bending forces, as well as geometric collisions. Our multi‐resolution method can be applied to many existing cloth simulation methods, since our method works on a general linear system. In order to demonstrate benefits of our method, we apply our method into four large‐scale cloth benchmarks that consist of tens or hundreds of thousands of triangles. Because of the reduced computations, we achieve a performance improvement by a factor of up to one order of magnitude, with a little loss of simulation quality.
Increased plasma disequilibrium between pro- and anti-oxidants during the early phase resuscitation after cardiac arrest is associated with increased levels of oxidative stress end-products

Abstract:Background: Cardiac arrest (CA) results in loss of blood circulation to all tissues leading to oxygen and metabolite dysfunction. Return of blood flow and oxygen during resuscitative efforts is the beginning of reperfusion injury and is marked by the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) that can directly damage tissues. The plasma serves as a reservoir and transportation medium for oxygen and metabolites critical for survival as well as ROS that are generated. However, the complicated interplay among various ROS species and antioxidant counterparts, particularly after CA, in the plasma have not been evaluated. In this study, we assessed the equilibrium between pro- and anti-oxidants within the plasma to assess the oxidative status of plasma post-CA. Methods: In male Sprague-Dawley rats, 10 min asphyxial-CA was induced followed by cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Plasma was drawn immediately after achieving return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) and after 2 h post-ROSC. Plasma was isolated and analyzed for prooxidant capacity (Amplex Red and dihydroethidium oxidation, total nitrate and nitrite concentration, xanthine oxidase activity, and iron concentration) and antioxidant capacity (catalase and superoxide dismutase activities, Total Antioxidant Capacity, and Iron Reducing Antioxidant Power Assay). The consequent oxidative products, such as 4-Hydroxyl-2-noneal, malondialdehyde, protein carbonyl, and nitrotyrosine were evaluated to determine the degree of oxidative damage. Results: After CA and resuscitation, two trends were observed: (1) plasma prooxidant capacity was lower during ischemia, but rapidly increased post-ROSC as compared to control, and (2) plasma antioxidant capacity was increased during ischemia, but either decreased or did not increase substantially post-ROSC as compared to control. Consequently, oxidation products were increased post-ROSC. Conclusion: Our study evaluated the disbalance of pro- and anti-oxidants after CA in the plasma during the early phase after resuscitation. This disequilibrium favors the prooxidants and is associated with increased levels of downstream oxidative stress-induced end-products, which the body's antioxidant capacity is unable to directly mitigate. Here, we suggest that circulating plasma is a major contributor to oxidative stress post-CA and its management requires substantial early intervention for favorable outcomes.
[Effect of selenium on the uptake and translocation of manganese, iron, phosphorus and selenium in rice (Oryza sativa L.)].

Abstract:A pot experiment was conducted to clarify the effect of selenium on the uptake and translocation of manganese (Mn), iron (Fe) , phosphorus (P) and selenium (Se) in rice ( Oryza sativa L.). The results showed that addition of Se led to the significant increase of Se concentration in iron plaque on the root surface, root, shoot, husk and brown rice, and significant decrease of Mn concentration in shoot, husk and brown rice. At the Se concentrations of 0.5 and 1.0 mg.kg-1 in soil, Mn concentrations in rice shoot decreased by 32. 2% and 35.0% respectively, in husk 22.0% and 42.6% , in brown rice 27.5% and 28.5% , compared with the Se-free treatment. There was no significant effect of Se on the P and Fe concentrations in every parts of rice, except for Fe concentrations in husk. The translocation of P and Fe from iron plaque, root, shoot and husk to brown rice was not significantly affected by Se addition, but Mn translocation from iron plaque and root to brown rice was significantly inhibited by Se addition. Addition of 1.0 mg.kg-1. Se resulted in the decrease of translocation factor from iron plaque and root to brown rice by 38.9% and 37.9%, respectively, compared with the control treatment. The distribution ratios of Mn, Fe, P and Se in iron plaque, root, shoot, husk and brown rice were also affected by Se addition. The results indicated that Mn uptake, accumulation and translocation in rice could be decreased by the addition of Se in soil, therefore, Se addition could reduce the Mn harm to human health through food chain.
Superoxide Dismutase Activity and Malondialdehyde Level in Plasma and Morphological Evaluation of Acute Severe Hemorrhagic Shock in Rats.

Abstract:Objectives: The aim of the study was to investigate the changes of the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and the level of malondialdehyde (MDA) in plasma and organ damage during the acute severe hemorrhagic shock (ASHS), as well as to analyze their relationship.Methods: Twenty male Wistar rats (230-270 g) were randomly divided into sham hemorrhage shock (SHS) group and ASHS group. Acute severe hemorrhagic shock rats were induced by drawing blood through a femoral arterial catheter for 15 minutes with the final mean arterial blood pressure decreased to 35 to 40 mm Hg. The animals were killed after the mean arterial blood pressure was maintained at this level for I hour. The activity of SOD and the level of MDA in plasma were measured, and pathologic changes of the major organs (heart, liver, spleen, lung, kidney, and brain) were observed by microscopy.Results: The SOD activities and MDA levels in the ASHS group both increased continuously during the whole experiment. The SOD activities and MDA levels in plasma were not significantly different between the prehemorrhagic stage of ASHS and that of SHS (P >.05). The SOD activities and MDA levels were significantly higher in the ASHS initial stage than in the prehemorrhagic stage (P <.01). Compared with the ASHS initial stage, there was a significant (P <.01) increase in SOD activities and MDA levels in the ASHS end stage. Severe microscopic injuries appeared in the major organs (heart, liver, spleen, lung, kidney, and brain) of ASHS rats.Conclusion: The changes of the activity of SOD and the level of MDA in ASHS may have a positive correlation. Networking antioxidants in the isolated rat heart are selectively depleted by ischemia-reperfusion

Abstract:Although cardiac endogenous antioxidants have been reported to be oxidized and decreased by ischemia-reperfusion, little is known whether the changes in these antioxidants are correlated with each other in a systematic relationship. In this study, isolated rat hearts were subjected to various periods of ischemia-reperfusion using the Langendorff method, and the content and/or redox status of tissue antioxidants were analyzed. Significant losses in the tissue hydrophilic antioxidants, ascorbate, and glutathione were observed. These losses were dependent on the duration of the reperfusion period (between 0-40 min) but not of ischemia (20-60 min). Marked increases of dehydroascorbate and glutathione disulfide, the oxidized forms of ascorbate and glutathione, respectively, were found during reperfusion, but these changes were not observed during ischemia. These findings indicate that the tissue hydrophilic antioxidants are easily oxidized and may be the first line of antioxidant defenses during reperfusion. Lipophilic antioxidants, like ubiquinol 9 and vitamin E, were not decreased during ischemia-reperfusion using regular buffer; however, if oxidative stress was induced by addition of H2O2 to the buffer solution during reperfusion after 20 min of ischemia, decreases in both the hydrophilic and hydrophobic antioxidants were noticeable. With 100 microM H2O2, the tissue antioxidant decreases were ubiquinol 9 (39%), vitamin E (3%), glutathione (44%) and ascorbate (58%). Only with 500 microM H2O2 treatment were marked decreases in tissue vitamin E (65%) observed; this was associated with almost complete depletion of tissue ubiquinol 9 (95%). These results suggest that prior to the consumption of vitamin E, other antioxidants are depleted and that vitamin E may serve as the ultimate antioxidant, protecting the integrity of cellular membranes. Thus, in this work, cardiac antioxidants were demonstrated to change in a systematically organized relationship under ischemia-reperfusion. This graded utilization of antioxidants supports the redox based antioxidant network concept, found to be present in other biological systems.
Effects of gap junctional intercellular communication on free radical and inflammatory factor for traumatic hemorrhagic shock

Abstract:Objective To investigate the effect of gap junctional intercellular communication on free radical and inflammatory factor for traumatic hemorrhagic shock.Methods After the model of New Zealand white rabbits with traumatic hemorrhagic shock,24 rabbits were randomly divided into 3 groups(n=8,each):traumatic hemorrhagic group(groupⅠ),traumatic shock and resuscitation group(groupⅡ)and blocking traumatic shock group(groupⅢ).The process of each animal model had four periods:traumatic period(30 min),shocked period(60 min),resuscitation period(45 min)and observation period(135 min).The SBP,DBP,MAP,HR,RR were recorded at the beginning and the end of every period(T1,T2,T3,T4,T5).Rabbit blood was extracted and centrifuged,and TNF-α,IL-1,IL-6,IL-10,MDA,SOD ware detected by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA).Results Blood transfusion recovery after traumatic hemorrhagic shock can significantly reduce the pro-inflammatory cytokines TNF-α,IL-1,IL-6(P<0.05),can significantly increase anti-inflammatory factor IL-10(P<0.05);Gap junctional intercellular communication early blocked may reduce some pro-inflammatory cytokine(TNF-α,IL-6),and it had no significant changes compared with baseline.But anti-inflammatory factor IL-10 had no significantly effect,and it had no significant effect compared withⅡgroup(P>0.05).At the same time,blood transfusion can be significantly reduced MDA(P<0.05),significantly increased SOD(P<0.05);gap junctional intercellular communication early blocked can reduce MDA,and it had no significant changes compared with baseline.But in antioxidant enzymes SOD had no significantly effect,and compared withⅡgroup it had no significant effect(P>0.05).Conclusions Gap junction communication was early blocked in traumatic hemorrhagic shock will reduce the production of some pro-inflammatory cytokine and free radical peroxidation,but will not significantly affect anti-inflammatory factor and antioxidant enzymes.
Effects of N-acetylcysteine on Pulmonary Macrophage Activity after Intestinal Ischemia and Reperfusion in Rats / with Invited Commentaries.

Abstract:BACKGROUND/AIMS:Intestinal ischemia and reperfusion (I/R) is considered to be a critical and triggering event in the development of distal organ dysfunction after a variety of insults. It appears that activated leukocytes, especially polymorphonuclear granulocytes (PMNs), and reactive oxygen species are important mediators in the process. In the present study, the aim was to evaluate the behavior of pulmonary macrophages, acute lung injury and pulmonary endothelial permeability after intestinal I/R, together with potential alterations in pulmonary endothelial and epithelial ultrastructure and cellular membrane system integrity.METHODS:Intestinal ischemia for 40 min was followed by reperfusion for 12 h in the rat. Macrophage uptake of radiolabeled bacteria, levels of pulmonary blood content assessed by radiolabeled red blood cells and pulmonary endothelial permeability of radiolabeled albumin, as well as pulmonary endothelial and epithelial ultrastructure and cellular membrane system integrity by the use of scanning electron microscopy and a tracer was evaluated after 12 h reperfusion. Treatment with the free radical scavenger N-acetylcysteine (NAC) administered prior to reperfusion was evaluated.RESULTS:Overactivation of pulmonary macrophages was noted after intestinal I/R, as was a significant decrease in pulmonary blood content. No increase in pulmonary albumin leakage or increase in pulmonary water content was found after intestinal I/R as compared to controls. Treatment with NAC prevented against intestinal I/R-induced overactivation of pulmonary macrophages and a decrease in pulmonary blood content.CONCLUSION:Reactive oxygen species may be involved in the regulation of pulmonary macrophage function and pulmonary circulation after intestinal I/R.
Free Radical Damage in Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury: An Obstacle in Acute Ischemic Stroke after Revascularization Therapy

Abstract:Acute ischemic stroke is a common cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Thrombolysis with recombinant tissue plasminogen activator and endovascular thrombectomy are the main revascularization therapies for acute ischemic stroke. However, ischemia-reperfusion injury after revascularization therapy can result in worsening outcomes. Among all possible pathological mechanisms of ischemia-reperfusion injury, free radical damage (mainly oxidative/nitrosative stress injury) has been found to play a key role in the process. Free radicals lead to protein dysfunction, DNA damage, and lipid peroxidation, resulting in cell death. Additionally, free radical damage has a strong connection with inducing hemorrhagic transformation and cerebral edema, which are the major complications of revascularization therapy, and mainly influencing neurological outcomes due to the disruption of the blood-brain barrier. In order to get a better clinical prognosis, more and more studies focus on the pharmaceutical and nonpharmaceutical neuroprotective therapies against free radical damage. This review discusses the pathological mechanisms of free radicals in ischemia-reperfusion injury and adjunctive neuroprotective therapies combined with revascularization therapy against free radical damage.

Abstract:Objective To investigate the relationship between the mechanism of ischemic postconditioning-induced activation of nuclear factor-E2 related factor 2 (Nrf2)-antioxidant response element (ARE) signaling pathway during myocardial ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) and reactive oxygen species (ROS).Methods Healthy male Sprague-Dawley rats, aged 16-20 weeks, weighing 250-300 g, were heparinized and anesthetized with intraperitoneal 1％ pentobarbital sodium 40 mg/kg.Their hearts were excised and perfused in a Langendorff apparatus with K-H solution.Thirty-two isolated rat hearts were randomly divided into 4 groups (n=8 each) using a random number table: control group (group C) , group I/R,ischemic postconditioning group (group IPO) , and N-(2-mercaptopropionyl)-glycine (a ROS scavenger) + IPO group (group M + IPO).After 20 min of equilibration, group C was continuously perfused with K-H solution for 100 min, and the isolated hearts received the drugs via the perfusion system in the other groups.Group I/R was perfused with cardioplegic solution 4 ℃ St.Thomas, and then was subjected to 40 min of ischemia at 32 ℃ followed by 60 min of reperfusion.In group IPO, ischemic postconditioning was induced by 6 cycles of 10 s reperfusion followed by 10 s limb ischemia starting from the onset of reperfusion, and the hearts were then perfused for 58 min.In group M + IPO, the hearts were perfused with K-H solution containing N-(2-mercaptopropionyl)-glycine 2 m mol/L for 3 min starting from the onset of reperfusion,underwent 2 min of ischemic postconditioning, and then was perfused for 55 min.Heart rate (HR), left ventricular developed pressure (LVDP), left ventricular end-diastolic pressure (LVEDP),and positive maximal pressure of left ventricular increase (+dp/dtmax) were recorded at the end of equilibration and of reperfusion.At 5 min of reperfusion and the end of reperfusion, myocardial specimens were obtained from the left ventricle for determination of ROS content by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.At the end of reperfusion, myocardial specimens were obtained from the left ventricle for examination of the ultrastructure of myocardial cells and for determination of Nrf2, heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) , quinone oxidoreductase 1 (NQO1), and superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) mRNA and protein expression (by using Western blot and real-time polymerase chain reaction).The damage to myocardial mitochondria was assessed using Flameng scoring.Results Compared with group C, HR, +dp/dtmax and LVDP were significantly decreased, and LVEDP was increased at the end of reperfusion in I/R and M+IPO groups, HR and LVDP were decreased, LVEDP was increased, and no significant changes were found in +dp/dtmax at the end of reperfusion in IPO group, Flameng score was increased in I/R, IPO and M+IPO groups , the ROS content was increased at the end of reperfusion in I/R, IPO and M+IPO groups, and Nrf2, HO-1,NQO1 and SOD1 mRNA and protein expression was down-regulated at the end of reperfusion in I/R, IPO and M+IPO groups.Compared with group I/R, HR, +dp/dtmax and LVDP were significantly increased, and LVEDP and ROS content were decreased at the end of reperfusion, Nrf2, HO-1, NQO1 and SOD1 mRNA and protein expression was up-regulated at the end of reperfusion in IPO and M+IPO groups, Flameng score was decreased in IPO group, there was no significant change in Flameng score in M+IPO group.Compared with group IPO, HR, +dp/dtmax and LVDP were significantly decreased, LVEDP and ROS content were increased at the end of reperfusion, Flameng score was increased, and Nrf2, HO-1, NQO1 and SOD1 mRNA and protein expression was down-regulated in M+IPO group.Conclusion Ischemic postconditioning can regulate ROS level and activate Nrf2-ARE signaling pathway, thus attenuating myocardial I/R injury in rats.

Abstract:While reperfusion, or restoration of coronary blood flow in acute myocardial infarction, is a requisite for myocardial salvage, it can paradoxically induce a specific damage known as ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury. Our understanding of the precise pathophysiological molecular alterations leading to I/R remains limited. In this study, we conducted a comprehensive and unbiased time-course analysis of post-translational modifications (PTMs) in the post-reperfused myocardium of two different animal models (pig and mouse) and evaluated the effect of two different cardioprotective therapies (ischemic preconditioning and neutrophil depletion). In pigs, a first wave of irreversible oxidative damage was observed at the earliest reperfusion time (20 min), impacting proteins essential for cardiac contraction. A second wave, characterized by irreversible oxidation on different residues and reversible Cys oxidation, occurred at late stages (6–12 h), affecting mitochondrial, sarcomere, and inflammation-related proteins. Ischemic preconditioning mitigated the I/R damage caused by the late oxidative wave. In the mouse model, the two-phase pattern of oxidative damage was replicated, and neutrophil depletion mitigated the late wave of I/R-related damage by preventing both Cys reversible oxidation and irreversible oxidation. Altogether, these data identify protein PTMs occurring late after reperfusion as an actionable therapeutic target to reduce the impact of I/R injury.

Abstract:Oxidative stress occurs during ex-situ heart perfusion (ESHP) and may negatively affect functional preservation of the heart. We sought to assess the status of key antioxidant enzymes during ESHP, and the effects of augmenting these antioxidants on the attenuation of oxidative stress and improvement of myocardial and endothelial preservation in ESHP. Porcine hearts were perfused for 6 hours with oxygen-derived free-radical scavengers polyethylene glycol (PEG)-catalase or PEG-superoxide dismutase (SOD) or with naive perfusate (control). The oxidative stress–related modifications were determined in the myocardium and coronary vasculature, and contractile function, injury, and endothelial integrity were compared between the groups. The activity of key antioxidant enzymes decreased and adding catalase and SOD restored the enzyme activity. Cardiac function and endothelial integrity were preserved better with restored catalase activity. Catalase and SOD both decreased myocardial injury and catalase reduced ROS production and oxidative modification of proteins in the myocardium and coronary vasculature. The activity of antioxidant enzymes decrease in ESHP. Catalase may improve the preservation of cardiac function and endothelial integrity during ESHP. While catalase and SOD may both exert cardioprotective effects, unbalanced SOD and catalase activity may paradoxically increase the production of reactive species during ESHP.

Abstract:This paper deals with the class of nonlinear systems described by the equation M(q(t))q(t) = f(t) - N(q(t),q¿(t)) with f(t) a control input. We employ a simple method of control design which has two stages. First, a global linearization is performed to yield a decoupled controllable linear system. Then a controller is designed for this linear system. We provide a rigorous analysis of the effects of uncertain dynamics, which we study using robustness results in the time domain based on a Lyapunov equation and the total stability theorem. Using this approach we are able to give meaningful robustness bounds which justify assumptions that are currently made in the literature in an ad hoc fashion.

Abstract:The consequences of increased oxidative stress, measured as the level of malondialdehyde (MDA) during ischemia/reperfusion, were studied in 48 patients in the acute phase of myocardial infarction (AMI) and a control group (21 blood donors). The serum levels of a-tocopherol and b-carotene were followed. Immediately after the treatment onset the level of a-tocopherol started to decrease, reaching a plateau after 24 h. The consumption of b-carotene was delayed by 90 min. Steady decline was detected during the whole time interval studied (48 h). Glutathione peroxidase (GPx) activity, as a representative of antioxidant enzymes, was estimated in whole blood. The influx of oxygenated blood was accompanied by a stimulation of GPx activity, which reached its maximum at the time of completed reperfusion. When comparing the AMI patients with the control group, the levels of MDA were found significantly increased, which indicates that oxidative stress is already increased during ischemia. Lower antioxidant levels found in the patients might either already be the result of vitamin consumption during ischemia or be a manifestation of their susceptibility to AMI. Monitored consumption of a-tocopherol and b-carotene during reperfusion indicated that in the case of patients, whose level of antioxidant vitamins is below the threshold limit, a further substantial decrease of antioxidant vitamins during reperfusion could enhance the oxidative damage of the myocardium.

Abstract:Objective To observe the changes of plasma nitric oxide,tumor necrosis factor alpha(TNF-α),interleukin-6(IL-6) and hemodynamics in rabbits with traumatic shock and the intervention of methylene blue(MB).Methods Eighteen rabbits was randomly assigned into 3 groups(n=6),namely control group,traumatic shock resuscitation with normal saline group(NS group) and traumatic shock resuscitation with methylene blue group(MB group).The systolic blood pressure(SBP),diastolic blood pressure(DBP),mean arterial pressure(MAP) and heart rate(HR)were recorded,and NO,TNF-α and IL-6 of plasma were measured,at pre-shock,tele-shock,tele-resuscitation,0.5 hour,2 hours and 4 hours after resuscitation.Results The levels of plasma NO,TNF-α and IL-6 in rabbits after traumatic shock were very higher than pre-shock.In NS group,the levels of plasma NO,TNF-α and IL-6 after resuscitation were progressively increased,and the blood pressure after resuscitation was unstable.But in MB group,the levels of plasma NO,TNF-α and IL-6 after resuscitation were obviously decreased,and the blood pressure after resuscitation was very stable.In control group,the levels of plasma NO,TNF-α,IL-6 and hemodynamics had no changes among all courses.Conclusions NO,TNF-α and IL-6 play important roles in the pathological process of traumatic shock,and the application of MB after resuscitation can decrease plasma NO,TNF-α and IL-6 levels and ameliorate hemodynamics.MB may improve the condition of traumatic chock.

Abstract:Objective:To explore the effective mechanism of Kangxianlingchongji on the system of oxidation-antioxidation in rats with renal ischemia-reinfusion and to offer theoretical evidence for clinical application.Methods:To observe renal function?MDA?GSH-Px?SOD in plasm and renal tissue pathologic changes in experimental rats.Results:Kangxianlingchongji decreased the level of MDA;increased the level of GSH-Px?SOD;degeneration?necrosis?shedding in the renal tubular epithelial cell were obviously inhabited; renal function were improved.Conclusion:There is better effective function on antioxidation from kangxianlingchongji,it can relieve renal tissue damages resulting from renal ischemia-reinfusion.
