Abstract:Two-loop renormalization group equations in the standard model are recalculated. A new coefficient is found in the beta function of the quartic coupling and a class of gauge invariants is found to be absent in the beta functions of hadronic Yukawa couplings. The two-loop beta function of the Higgs mass parameter is presented in complete form.

Abstract:In this Letter we consider renormalization of a class of scalar operators with fixed hypercharge $Q$ within the Standard Model. We carry out explicit computation of the corresponding anomalous dimensions up to the three-loop order. In spite of the fact that our result is gauge-dependent, in the Landau gauge and in the limit of vanishing weak isospin coupling the expression can be matched to recent gauge-independent computation based on the large-charge method. Our result serves an important and non-trivial cross-check of new developments in large-charge expansion and applications of the latter to realistic gauge theories. We not only confirm the leading and subleading terms in perturbative $Q$ expansion up to three loops, but also provide the expressions for sub-subleading coefficients that at the moment are not captured by the large-charge approach.

Abstract:We calculate quantum corrections to the symmetry generators for the transversity operators in quantum chromodynamics (QCD) in the two-loop approximation. Using this result, we obtain the evolution kernel for the corresponding operators at three loops. The explicit expression for the anomalous dimension matrix in the Gegenbauer basis is given for the first few operators.

On the two-loop penguin contributions to the Anomalous Dimensions of four-quark operators

Abstract:We revisit the Next-to-Leading Order (two-loop) contributions to the Anomalous Dimensions of $\Delta F = 1$ four-quark operators in QCD. We devise a test for anomalous dimensions, that we regard as of general interest, and by means of which we detect a problem in the results available in the literature. Deconstructing the steps leading to the available result, we identify the source of the problem, which is related to the operator known as $Q_{11}$. We show how to fix the problem and provide the corrected anomalous dimensions. With the insight of our findings, we propose an alternative approach to the one used in the literature which does not suffer from the identified disease, and which confirms our corrected results. We assess the numerical impact of our corrections, which happens to be in the ballpark of $5\%$ in certain entries of the evolution matrix. Our results are important for the correct resummation of Next-to-Leading Logarithms in analyses of physics beyond the Standard Model in $\Delta F = 1$ processes, such as the decays of Kaons and $B$-mesons.

Two-Loop Divergences of Massive Scattering Amplitudes in Non-Abelian Gauge Theories

Abstract:The infrared divergences of QCD scattering amplitudes can be derived from an anomalous dimension Γ, which is a matrix in color space and depends on the momenta and masses of the external partons. It has recently been shown that in cases where there are at least two massive partons involved in the scattering process, starting at two-loop order Γ receives contributions involving color and momentum correlations between three (and more) partons. The three-parton correlations can be described by two universal functions F1 and f2. In this paper these functions are calculated at two-loop order in closed analytic form and their properties are studied in detail. Both functions are found to be suppressed like (m4/s2) in the limit of small parton masses, in accordance with mass factorization theorems proposed in the literature. On the other hand, both functions are (1) and even diverge logarithmically near the threshold for pair production of two heavy particles. As an application, we calculate the infrared poles in the q → t and gg → t scattering amplitudes at two-loop order.

Abstract:The anomalous dimension for heavy-heavy-light effective theory operators describing nuclear beta decay is computed through three-loop order in the static limit. The result at order Z2α3 corrects a previous result in the literature. An all-orders symmetry is shown to relate the anomalous dimensions at leading and subleading powers of Z at a given order of α . A variational approach to the QCD wavefunctional: Calculation of the QCD beta-function

Abstract:The beta-function is calculated for an SU(N) Yang-Mills theory from an ansatz for the vacuum wavefunctional. Direct comparison is made with the results of calculations of the beta-function of QCD. In both cases the theories are asymptotically free. The only difference being in the numerical coefficient of the beta-function, which is found to be -4 from the ansatz and -4+1/3 from other QCD calculations. This is because, due to the constraint of Gauss' law applied to the wavefunctional, transverse gluons (which contribute the 1/3) are omitted. The renormalisation procedure is understood in terms of `tadpole' and `horse-shoe' Feynman diagrams which must be interpreted with a non-local propagator.

Abstract:We provide a complete description of the two-loop infrared singularities of scattering amplitudes with an arbitrary number of massive and massless partons in non-Abelian gauge theories. To this end, we calculate the two universal functions that completely specify the structure of three-parton correlations in the soft anomalous-dimension matrix at two-loop order in closed analytic form. Both functions are found to be suppressed like O(m(4)/s(2)) in the limit of small parton masses, in accordance with mass factorization theorems. On the other hand, they are unsuppressed near the threshold for pair production of two heavy particles. As an application, we calculate the two-loop anomalous-dimension matrix for qq --> tt near threshold and show that it is not diagonal in the s-channel singlet-octet basis.

Abstract:Abstract The rapidity anomalous dimension controls the scaling of transverse momentum dependent observables in the Sudakov region. In a conformal theory it is equivalent to the soft anomalous dimension, but in QCD this relation is broken by anomalous terms proportional to the β-function. In this paper we first give a simple proof of this relation using two different representations of the energy-energy correlator observable. We then calculate the anomalous terms to three loops by computing the three-loop fully differential soft function to 𝒪(ϵ). Combined with recent perturbative data from the study of on-shell form factors and splitting functions, this allows us to derive the four loop rapidity anomalous dimension in QCD.
Infrared Anomalous Dimensions at Three-Loop in the SM from Conserved Currents

Abstract:We study the infrared structure of the Standard Model (SM) restricted to the first generation of fermions, including the full SM gauge group, up to three-loop order, and determine the resulting cusp and collinear anomalous dimensions for all gauge groups and particles of the theory. We observe that starting from three loops, the resulting cusp anomalous dimensions include terms involving two distinct couplings, contrary to previous claims in the literature. We give a detailed explanation of this observation and explore the origin of these terms. We provide a supplementary file where all infrared anomalous dimensions calculated in this work are collected. Our results are consistent with the existing literature wherever comparisons are possible.

Infrared structure of $SU(N)\times U(1)$ gauge theory to three loops

Abstract:We study the infrared (IR) structure of $SU(N) \times U(1)$ (QCD $\times$ QED) gauge theory with $n_f$ quarks and $n_l$ leptons within the framework of perturbation theory. In particular, we unravel the IR structure of the form factors and inclusive real emission cross sections that contribute to inclusive production of color neutral states, such as a pair of leptons or single W/Z in Drell-Yan processes and a Higgs boson in bottom quark annihilation, in Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in the threshold limit. Explicit computation of the relevant form factors to third order and the use of Sudakov's $K+G$ equation in $SU(N)\times U(1)$ gauge theory demonstrate the universality of the cusp anomalous dimensions ($A_I , I = q, b$). The abelianization rules that relate $A_I$ of $SU(N)$ with those from $U(1)$ and $SU(N)\times U(1)$ can be used to predict the soft distribution that results from the soft gluon emission subprocesses in the threshold limit. Using the latter and the third order form factors, we can obtain the collinear anomalous dimensions ($B_I$ ) and the renormalisation constant $Z_b$ to third order in perturbation theory. The form factors, the process independent soft distribution functions can be used to predict fixed and resummed inclusive cross sections to third order in couplings and in leading logarithmic approximation respectively.

Abstract:Within the framework of non-relativistic QCD (NRQCD) factorization, we compute the matching coefficients between full Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) and NRQCD for the heavy flavor-changing vector, axial-vector, scalar and pseudo-scalar currents up to next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order (N$^3$LO). We accomplish the analytical expressions for the three-loop renormalization constants and the corresponding anomalous dimensions for all of the four NRQCD currents with two different heavy flavors. The three-loop QCD corrections to the matching coefficients turn out to be significantly larger than lower order corrections. By employing the scale relation, we obtain the N$^3$LO corrections to the wave functions at the origin for the vector $B_c^*$ meson and the pseudo-scalar $B_c$ meson from the known result for the equal-mass heavy quarkonium in potential NRQCD (pNRQCD). We find large cancellations at the third order between the matching coefficients and the wave functions at the origin, and obtain the convergent decay constants of $B^*_{c}$ and $B_{c}$ up to N$^3$LO. We present the complete perturbative QCD predictions for the decay constants, leptonic decay widths, and branching ratios of the beauty-charmed mesons.

Abstract:We present the results for three-loop beta-function for the Higgs self-coupling calculated within the unbroken phase of the Standard Model. We also provide the results for three-loop beta-function for Higgs mass parameter, which was easily extracted from our calculation. Our results coincide with that of recent paper of K. Chetyrkin and M. Zoller (2013) [1]. In addition, the expression for the Higgs field anomalous dimension is given.

Abstract:In a recent work, we calculated all three-loop diagrams contributing to the decay amplitude for b → sγ where none of the gluons touch the b -leg. In the present paper, we complete the calculation by working out all remaining three-loop diagrams (of order ) associated with the current-current operators O 1 and O 2 at the physical value of the charm-quark mass m c . Using the programs AMFlow and DiffExp to solve the differential equations for the master integrals, we obtained precise numerical results at 23 values for , ranging from z = 1 / 1000 to z = 1 / 5, along with asymptotic expansions around z = 0. For certain diagrams, the asymptotic expansion breaks down in the physical z -range, necessitating a Taylor expansion (which we do around z = 1 / 10). In all expansions, we retained power terms up to z 20 and included the accompanying log( z ) terms to all powers for asymptotic expansions. Numerical results for the sum of all diagrams (including those calculated in the previous paper) are presented in tabular form, while the mentioned expansions of individual diagram classes are provided electronically. We note that our results for the asymptotic expansions around z = 0 are in good agreement with those recently published by Fael et al. and Czaja et al.

Analytic results on the massive three-loop form factors: quarkonic contributions

Abstract:The quarkonic contributions to the three-loop heavy-quark form factors for vector, axial-vector, scalar and pseudoscalar currents are described by closed form difference equations for the expansion coefficients in the limit of small virtualities $q^2/m^2$. A part of the contributions can be solved analytically and expressed in terms of harmonic and cyclotomic harmonic polylogarithms and square-root valued iterated integrals. Other contributions obey equations which are not first-order factorizable. For them still infinite series expansions around the singularities of the form factors can be obtained by matching the expansions at intermediate points and using differential equations which are obeyed directly by the form factors and are derived by guessing algorithms. One may determine all expansion coefficients for $q^2 /m^2 \to \infty$ analytically in terms of multiple zeta values. By expanding around the threshold and pseudo-threshold, the corresponding constants are multiple zeta values supplemented by a finite amount of new constants, which can be computed at high precision. For a part of these coefficients, the infinite series in front of these constants may be even resummed into harmonic polylogarithms. In this way, one obtains a deeper analytic description of the massive form factors, beyond their pure numerical evaluation. The calculations of these analytic results are based on sophisticated computer algebra techniques. We also compare our results with numerical results in the literature.

Three-loop matching of heavy flavor-changing (axial-)tensor currents

Abstract:We present the three-loop calculations of the nonrelativistic QCD (NRQCD) current renormalization constants and corresponding anomalous dimensions, and the matching coefficients for the spatial-temporal tensor and spatial-spatial axial-tensor currents with two different heavy quark masses. We obtain the convergent decay constant ratio up to the next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order (N$^3$LO) for the $S$-wave vector meson $B_c^*$ involving the tensor and axial-tensor currents. We obtain the three-loop finite ($\epsilon^0$) term in the ratio of the QCD heavy flavor-changing tensor current renormalization constant in the on-shell ($\mathrm{OS}$) scheme to that in the modified-minimal-subtraction ($\mathrm{\overline{MS}}$) scheme, which is helpful to obtain the three-loop matching coefficients for all heavy flavor-changing (axial-)tensor currents.

An observation on Feynman diagrams with axial anomalous subgraphs in dimensional regularization with an anticommuting $γ_5$

Abstract:Through the calculation of the matrix element of the singlet axial-current operator between the vacuum and a pair of gluons in dimensional regularization with an anticommuting $\gamma_5$ defined in a Kreimer-scheme variant, we find that additional renormalization counter-terms proportional to the Chern-Simons current operator are needed starting from $\mathcal{O}(\alpha_s^2)$ in QCD. This is in contrast to the well-known purely multiplicative renormalization of the singlet axial-current operator defined with a non-anticommuting $\gamma_5$. Consequently, without introducing compensation terms in the form of additional renormalization, the Adler-Bell-Jackiw anomaly equation does not hold automatically in the bare form in this kind of schemes. We determine the corresponding (gauge-dependent) coefficient to $\mathcal{O}(\alpha_s^3)$ in QCD, using a variant of the original Kreimer prescription which is implemented in our computation in terms of the standard cyclic trace together with a constructively-defined $\gamma_5$. Owing to the factorized form of these divergences, intimately related to the axial anomaly, we further performed a check, using concrete examples, that with $\gamma_5$ treated in this way, the axial-current operator needs no more additional renormalization in dimensional regularization but \textit{only} for non-anomalous amplitudes in a perturbatively renormalizable theory. To be complete, we provide a few additional ingredients needed for a proposed extension of the algorithmic procedure formulated in the above analysis to potential applications to a renormalizable anomaly-free chiral gauge theory, i.e.~the electroweak theory.
