Abstract:We propose a new wiew on the structure of quantum mechanics and postulate a q-deformed algebra of observables. We find equations of motion for this system, which guarantee a unitary time developement. We solve this equations for simple models. We write this formalism in terms of twisted deRham complex.

Abstract:On a one-dimensional lattice without uniform interval, the Hermitian conjugation of a q-differential operator is discussed. Then a deformation of quantum mechanics in one dimension is presented. As an application, the harmonic oscillator is discussed. The energy spectrum and the eigenfunctions are shown to depend on an arbitrary deformation function. The deformed coherent states are also discussed. It is found that the completeness relation of coherent states holds for the case of q-coherent states, i.e. the deformation of the Heisenberg-Weyl algebra is a q-analogue Hopf algebra.
A Geometric Substructure for Quantum Dynamics

Abstract:The description of a closed quantum system is extended with the identification of an underlying substructure in which an expanded formulation of dynamics in the Heisenberg picture is given. Between measurements a ``state point" moves in an underlying multi-dimensional complex, projective space with constant velocity determined by the quantum state vector. Following a measurement, the point changes direction and moves with new constant velocity along one of several possible new orthogonal paths, with probabilities determined by Born's Rule. A possible generalization to a Riemannian substructure is speculated upon, suggesting an unexpected interaction with the background gravitational field.

Abstract:We construct noncommutative theories with the Moyal-Weyl product in the double field theory (DFT) framework. We deform the infinitesimal generalized diffeomorphisms and the Leibniz rule in a consistent way. The prescription requires a generalized star metric, which can be thought of as the fundamental double metric, in order to construct the action. Finally we use the generalized scalar field dynamics and the generalized scalar field-perfect fluid correspondence to construct the generalized energy-momentum tensor of a perfect fluid in the noncommutative double geometry. Abstract:We develop a version of quantum mechanics that can handle nonassociative algebras of observables and which reduces to standard quantum theory in the traditional associative setting. Our algebraic approach is naturally probabilistic and is based on using the universal enveloping algebra of a general nonassociative algebra to introduce a generalized notion of associative composition product. We formulate properties of states together with notions of trace, and use them to develop GNS constructions. We describe Heisenberg and Schrödinger pictures of completely positive dynamics, and we illustrate our formalism on the explicit examples of finite-dimensional matrix Jordan algebras as well as the octonion algebra.

Abstract:Noncommutative quantum mechanics in 3D is investigated in the framework of an abelian Drinfeld twist which deforms a given Hopf algebra structure. Composite operators (of coordinates and momenta) entering the Hamiltonian have to be reinterpreted as primitive elements of a dynamical Lie algebra which could be either finite (for the harmonic oscillator) or infinite (in the general case). The deformed brackets of the deformed angular momenta close the so(3) algebra. On the other hand, undeformed rotationally invariant operators can become, under deformation, anomalous (the anomaly vanishes when the deformation parameter goes to zero). The deformed operators, Taylor-expanded in the deformation parameter, can be selected to minimize the anomaly. We present the deformations (and their anomalies) of undeformed rotationally invariant operators corresponding to the harmonic oscillator (quadratic potential), the anharmonic oscillator (quartic potential), and the Coulomb potential.

Abstract:Optical excitation in the dipole approximation and other probes couple two quantum states of an unaddressed finite quantum mechanical discrete system. Thereby the interaction of the system with the probe is bilinear in the coherence between the two states and in the time-dependent strength of the probe. The total Hamiltonian is a sum of such bilinear terms and of terms linear in the populations. The terms in the Hamiltonian form a basis for a Lie algebra that can be represented as a direct product of individual two state systems each using the population and the coherence between two states. Dynamical symmetries can be used to advantage to describe the progress of such systems in time. They also offer a compact and efficient representation for a density matrix of maximal entropy that evolves in time. Using the factorization approach of Wei and Norman, (J. Wei and E. Norman, Lie Algebraic Solution of Linear Differential Equations, J. Math. Phys. 4, 575 (1963)), we construct a unitary quantum mechanical evolution operator that is a factored contribution of individual two state systems. Thereby one can propagate, to all orders in perturbation theory, both the wave function and the density matrix with special reference to dynamical symmetries.

Abstract:Discussed is the quantized version of the classical description of collective and internal affine modes as developed in Part I. We perform the Schr\"odinger quantization and reduce effectively the quantized problem from $n^{2}$ to $n$ degrees of freedom. Some possible applications in nuclear physics and other quantum many-body problems are suggested. Discussed is also the possibility of half-integer angular momentum in composed systems of spin-less particles.

Abstract:The quantal algebra combines classical and quantum mechanics into an abstract structurally unified structure. The structure uses two products: one symmetric and one anti-symmetric. The local structure of spacetime is contained in the quantal algebra without having been postulated. We will introduce an abstract derivation concept and generalize classical and quantum mechanics equations of motion to abstract equations of motion in which the anti-symmetric product of the quantal algebra plays a key role. We will express the defining identities of the quantal algebra in terms of the abstract derivation. In this form the first defining identity (the Jacobi identity) is analogous in form to the Bianchi identity in general relativity which is one set of gravitational field equations for the curvature tensor. The identity for the unit element is equivalent to the important property that the metric is covariantly constant. Similarly, the Jacobi identity is analogous in form to the homogeneous Maxwell equations. The anti-symmetric product of the quantal algebra is reflected in the antisymmetry of the electromagnetic tensor.

Abstract:I extend the three-dimensional q-deformed Euclidean space by a time element and discuss the algebraic structure of this quantum space together with its differential calculi. Using the star-product formalism, I will give basic operations of q-deformed analysis for the q-deformed Euclidean space with a time element. I show that the time-evolution operator of a quantum system living in the q-deformed Euclidean space is of the same form as in the undeformed case. The reasonings also show that the well-known methods of quantum dynamics apply to quantum systems living in the q-deformed Euclidean space.

Abstract:We propose a model for noncommutative quantum cosmology by means of a deformation of minisuperspace. For the Kantowski-Sachs metric we are able to find the exact wave function. We construct wave packets and show that new quantum states that ``compete'' to be the most probable state appear, in clear contrast with the commutative case. A tunneling process could be possible among these states.

Abstract:We provide a deformation quantization, in the sense of Rieffel, for all globally hyperbolic space-times with a Poisson structure. The Poisson structures have to satisfy Fedosov type requirements in order for the deformed product to be associative. We apply the novel deformation to quantum field theories and their respective states and we prove that the deformed state (i.e. a state in non-commutative spacetime) has a singularity structure resembling Minkowski, i.e. is Hadamard, if the undeformed state is Hadamard. This proves that the Hadamard condition, and hence the quantum field theoretical implementation of the equivalence principle is a general concept that holds in spacetimes with quantum features (i.e. a non-commutative spacetime).

Quantum Mechanics in Curved Space(time) with a Noncommutative Geometric Perspective

Abstract:We have previously presented a version of the Weak Equivalence Principle for a quantum particle as an exact analog of the classical case, based on the Heisenberg picture analysis of free particle motion. Here, we take that to a full formalism of quantum mechanics in a generic curved space(time). Our basic perspective is to take seriously the noncommutative symplectic geometry corresponding to the quantum observable algebra. Particle position coordinate transformations and a nontrivial metric assigning an invariant inner product to vectors, and covectors, are implemented accordingly. That allows an analog to the classical picture of the phase space as the cotangent bundle. The mass-independent quantum geodesic equations as equations of free particle motion under a generic metric as a quantum observable are obtained from an invariant Hamiltonian. Hermiticity of momentum observables is to be taken as reference frame dependent. Our results have a big contrast to the alternative obtained based on the Schrödinger wavefunction representation. Hence, the work points to a very different approach to quantum gravity.

Abstract:We show that Quantum Mechanics can be interpreted as a modification of the Euclidean nature of 3-d space into a particular Weyl affine space which we call Q-wis. This is proved using the Bohm-de Broglie causal formulation of Quantum Mechanics. In the Q-wis geometry, the length of extended objects changes from point to point. In our proposed geometrical formulation, deformation of the standard rulers used to measure physical distances are in the core of quantum effects.

Abstract:The construction of exactly-solvable models has recently been advanced by considering integrable deformations and related Hamiltonian deformations in quantum mechanics. We introduce a broader class of non-Hermitian Hamiltonian deformations in a nonrelativistic setting, to account for the description of a large class of open quantum systems, which includes, e.g., arbitrary Markovian evolutions conditioned to the absence of quantum jumps. We relate the time evolution operator and the time-evolving density matrix in the undeformed and deformed theories in terms of integral transforms with a specific kernel. Non-Hermitian Hamiltonian deformations naturally arise in the description of energy diffusion that emerges in quantum systems from time-keeping errors in a real clock used to track time evolution. We show that the latter can be related to an inverse deformation with a purely imaginary deformation parameter. In this case, the integral transforms take a particularly simple form when the initial state is a coherent Gibbs state or a thermofield double state, as we illustrate by characterizing the purity, Rényi entropies, logarithmic negativity, and the spectral form factor. As the dissipative evolution of a quantum system can be conveniently described in Liouville space, we further study the spectral properties of the Liouvillians, i.e., the dynamical generators associated with the deformed theories. As an application, we discuss the interplay between decoherence and quantum chaos in non-Hermitian deformations of random matrix Hamiltonians and the Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev model.

Quantum cosmology as automorphic dynamics

Abstract:We revisit pure quantum cosmology in three dimensions. The Wheeler-DeWitt equation can be solved perturbatively and the dynamics reduces to a particle on moduli space. Its time evolution is equivalent to the $T\overline{T}$ deformation. Focusing on spacetimes with torus slices, we show that inflationary cosmologies correspond to particle trajectories in Artin's billiard. The resulting automorphic dynamics is developed both from a first and second quantized perspectives. Our main application is to give an interpretation for the Hartle-Hawking state which is here the analytic continuation of the Maloney-Witten partition function. We obtain its spectral decomposition and an exact representation as an average involving the Möbius function.

Abstract:Dualities are mathematical mappings that reveal unexpected links between apparently unrelated systems or quantities in virtually every branch of physics. Systems that are mapped onto themselves by a duality transformation are called self-dual and they often exhibit remarkable properties, as exemplified by an Ising magnet at the critical point. In this Letter, we unveil the role of dualities in mechanics by considering a family of so-called twisted Kagome lattices. These are reconfigurable structures that can change shape thanks to a collapse mechanism easily illustrated using LEGO. Surprisingly, pairs of distinct configurations along the mechanism exhibit the same spectrum of vibrational modes. We show that this puzzling property arises from the existence of a duality transformation between pairs of configurations on either side of a mechanical critical point. This critical point corresponds to a self-dual structure whose vibrational spectrum is two-fold degenerate over the entire Brillouin zone. The two-fold degeneracy originates from a general version of Kramers theorem that applies to classical waves in addition to quantum systems with fermionic time-reversal invariance. We show that the vibrational modes of the self-dual mechanical systems exhibit non-Abelian geometric phases that affect the semi-classical propagation of wave packets. Our results apply to linear systems beyond mechanics and illustrate how dualities can be harnessed to design metamaterials with anomalous symmetries and non-commuting responses.
