Abstract:P arvimonas micra ( P. micra ), an anaerobic Gram-positive coccus commonly found in the oral cavity and gastrointestinal tract, 1 is rarely associated with pneumonia or pulmonary abscess due to the aerobic lung environment. The diagnosis of P. micra -related diseases is often delayed due to nonspecific symptoms and challenges in culturing the bacteria, leading to severe consequences, including fatality. Here, we present an exceptionally rare case of pulmonary abscess in a 5-year-old child, caused by co-infections of Mycoplasma pneumoniae (MP) and P. micra . This was confirmed through metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS)-based microbial identification of bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) and pleural fluid. To our knowledge, this represents the youngest reported P. micra infection and the first documented case of combined MP and P. micra infection leading to a pulmonary abscess.
