Foundational Discussion on Research Directions for Image-Generating Artificial Intelligence, with a Focus on Realistic Images

Abstract:The advancement of AI technology in South Korea gained significant attention following the defeat of Lee Sedol, a Go grandmaster, by AlphaGo. The emergence of Chat-GPT in 2022 marked a significant development in natural language processing, enabling AI to understand and respond in human language. This capability signifies the advent of multimodal AI technologies. Additionally, the introduction of image-generating AI, which creates images from text-based prompts, has been impactful in traditionally creative fields such as photography, graphic design, webtoons, and other image-based arts. Alongside the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the fusion and development of digitalization, automation, and internet technologies are foundational to advancements in AI, robotics, IoT, blockchain, virtual reality, and 3D printing, with AI being a particularly rapidly growing and highly focused area. While initial disruptions are anticipated, image-generating AI is expected to coexist with and eventually become integrated into photography, art, and design. Certain aspects of the image field are anticipated to be replaced by AI, and a new fusion of traditional imagery with AI-generated content is expected to evolve. This will lead to the creation of new forms of photography, art, and design, driving transformative changes. However, the speed of these changes makes predicting the future challenging. Efficiency and integration will be key themes in this evolving market.
This study has explored five discussion points regarding the impact of image-generating AI on the world of realistic images, indicating a gradual shift in our perception. The advent of AI heralds a new era of change in the image world,warranting ongoing interest and discussion. This study provides a foundational discussion on the evolving image market and its significance.
