Abstract:In this study, silver nanoparticles were incorporated with chitosan and Fe3O4 NPs for the removal of ampicillin from aqueous media. In order to study the characterization of the synthesized composite, scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction spectroscopy, and vibrating sample magnetometer were used. The effects of experimental factors on AMP removal were assessed using a central composite design. The optimum values were found to be 4, 0.4 g L−1, 40 min, and 40 mg L−1 for pH, adsorbent dosage, contact time, and AMP concentration, respectively. Under the optimum conditions, the maximum removal efficiency was obtained at 88.32% (experimental value) and 87.92% (predicted value). The Langmuir isotherm model with a coefficient of determination (R2) of 0.9995 and the pseudo-second-order kinetic model with R2 equal to 0.9992 stated the adsorption process more appropriately. The maximum adsorption capacity (qmax) was 49.50 mg g−1. This work represented that fabricated adsorbent can be promising, efficient, and simple adsorbent for the removal of antibiotics such as ampicillin from aqueous environments.
