Abstract:The purpose of the study is to deeply analyse the evolution of piano education in China, identify its influence on the cultural landscape, and uncover prospects for future development. It highlights crucial aspects of the interaction between art and society, while also revealing factors determining the success of piano education in the contemporary world with consideration of cultural heritage. The research methodology is based on a comprehensive approach, incorporating historical comparative-typological, musicological, and interdisciplinary research methods. It involves a profound analysis of historical and contemporary sources, utilising a holistic socio-cultural approach. The author employs socio-cultural analysis methods, meticulously examining the impact of piano education on Chinese society and its cultural landscape. Additionally, success factors in this field are taken into account to determine key elements contributing to its effectiveness. In terms of scientific novelty, the article not only systematically examines key developmental stages, such as the establishment of private music schools and exchanges in the pedagogical-artistic vector, but also introduces a novel comprehensive socio-cultural analysis. This analysis is aimed at a meticulous study of the impact of piano education on the cultural landscape of China. The conclusions of the article highlight transformations in the perception and utilisation of the piano in China, particularly in the 21st century, where piano education has evolved into an effective business segment, fostering not only the development of musical literacy, but also the shaping of the country's cultural identity. Abstract:Diversified teaching plays an important role in the sustainable development of China’s basic piano course instruction for higher education teachers. A diversified curriculum system should be designed to promote the development of each student, and efforts should be made to cultivate high-quality talents who can adapt to the various needs of the society as well as to promote the reform and development of basic piano course instruction for higher education teachers. The aim of this study was to explore the teaching of basic piano course for higher education teachers based on the diversified teaching method. The teaching methods use for basic piano course were analyzed in this study, and two research methods were used to carry out the present study so as to effectively improve the operation of the diversified teaching method. Through a survey of the current situation of piano instruction in two higher education faculties, we can see that the teaching of basic piano course in higher education is still dominated by the traditional teaching method although the majority of students preferred the diversified teaching method.

Abstract:China's economic and social development, cultural industry progress, and improved living standards have led to a diversified society for piano professionals and applied talents. This study aimed to analyze the piano teaching mode in higher schools. Explore the existing piano teaching modes at home and abroad, and analyze the characteristics, advantages, and shortcomings of different teaching modes and evaluate the new piano teaching mode and verify its effect of improving students' piano playing application ability. The current study clarified the related implications under the initial dimensions for a follow-up particular analysis by examining the syllabi of piano teaching models from five universities' music programs using the Research & Development (R&D) theoretical framework. The study examines and contrasts relevant research on domestic piano instruction models through a survey of the literature. This stage seeks to categorize and condense the findings of previous research, comprehend the theoretical underpinnings and real-world application of applied talent training models both domestically and internationally, and offer a theoretical framework and point of reference for this investigation. This study employs various research tools, including literature analysis, structured questionnaires, observation forms, and checklists, to collect comprehensive data to address the research questions. It explored that teaching methods: at present, China's higher education piano teaching methods are diverse, emphasis on skills training, ignoring the cultivation of music literacy. In the process of teaching, teachers tend to focus on demonstration, and students have fewer opportunities to practice, which leads to the lack of students' innovative ability. The Curriculum: China's higher education piano teaching is based on professional courses, and a small number of elective courses in the curriculum to assist. As a result, the content of the curriculum is relatively single and lacks the cultivation of students' comprehensive ability. The Evaluation system: China's higher education piano teaching is mainly based on performance examination, which overly emphasizes technical indicators and neglects musical expression and creativity. In addition, the evaluation standard is too uniform, making it difficult to meet students' individual needs.

Abstract:This study explores the evolution of Chinese local children's piano enlightenment works, focusing on the balance between tradition and innovation. Chinese piano music, deeply rooted in traditional culture and modern piano techniques, holds significant artistic value. Early 20th century initiatives by Xiao Youmei and Zakharoff established a foundation for systematic piano education in China, while competitions such as Tcherepnin's in the 1930s spurred the creation of child-centric piano pieces. Despite interruptions during the Cultural Revolution, post-1980s reforms and the advent of the new millennium have led to a resurgence in culturally responsive piano education materials. These materials often integrate folk tunes and traditional operas, addressing the need for aesthetic appreciation and cultural relevance in children's musical education. The essay highlights the importance of localized piano education in nurturing young learners' appreciation for national music and ensuring the continuity of Chinese piano traditions. It also addresses the challenges posed by traditional teaching methods, the scarcity of culturally relevant repertoire, and the impact of digital technology on piano pedagogy, proposing a blended approach to foster creativity and cultural understanding. Through qualitative research and score analysis, this study aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the development and the current status of children's piano education in China, offering insights into more effective and culturally aligned teaching methodologies.

Abstract:With the flourishing of China's social economy, there has been a significant surge in the public's desire for a more enriched cultural experience. The piano, renowned for its exquisite artistry as a Western musical instrument, has emerged as an especially popular choice. Consequently, the importance of piano education for children is gaining prominence. This study delves into the current state of children's piano education in China through field interviews, questionnaire surveys, and discussions with training institutions, revealing numerous challenges. The investigation encompasses the perspectives of piano education institutions, children, parents, and teachers, scrutinizing teaching methods, content, and the selection of instructional materials. Notably, a critical concern lies in the waning interest and enthusiasm among children in piano learning. This decline is predominantly influenced by external factors, particularly societal attitudes and prevailing utilitarian views. To address this issue, educators and parents must gain a clearer understanding of the purpose and values of children's piano education, bearing the responsibility of nurturing a sustained interest in the piano. This can be achieved by fostering a conducive environment that nurtures their innate curiosity and passion for music, thereby paving the way for a more vibrant and productive future for children's piano education in China.

Abstract:Abstract. The article examines the national and cultural factors influencing the development of Chinese musical culture, with a focus on the integration of genres and forms within the international context. The study aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the main trajectories of Chinese musical culture, particularly piano culture, as a conceptually integral national phenomenon. The research methodology employs historical, structural-typological, and comparative-analytical methods. Through the research process, it was discovered that the creation of a unique system of musical thinking in China relies on adapting external influences to the national artistic representation and aesthetics, shaped by a global perception. Among composer's approaches, arrangement and cyclicity emerge as the most specific types of thinking, facilitating the harmonious integration of traditions with modernization and the incorporation of Chinese music into the global context. This research opens up prospects for analyzing the piano heritage from the perspective of musical anthropology.

Abstract:With the continuous development of society, higher requirements have been put forward for the quality of talents. As modern parents generally pay attention to their children's comprehensive quality and ability cultivation, they enable their children to fully develop in sports, art, music and other aspects from the preschool stage. In the face of the current changes and transformations in preschool education, students majoring in preschool education must master various artistic skills mentioned above in the daily learning process, so as to ensure that they can better adapt to the development needs of preschool education in the new era after graduation and be competent for modern preschool education work. However, in the process of piano teaching in preschool education, teachers often adopt the traditional mode, which makes students have poor learning enthusiasm and are not active in learning. In view of this situation, professional teachers need to change their teaching methods in time and constantly improve the piano playing ability of students majoring in preschool education. This paper is mainly based on the actual situation in the specific practice teaching process, and puts forward some relevant solutions for the listed and concretely analyzed problems. Abstract:In the 70 years since the founding of China, piano music has undergone a unique process of development. In the early years of the founding, piano composers tended to favor folk material, focusing on nationalization and mass. This study explores multiple stages in the evolution of creative thinking about traditional elements of Chinese piano music, using the cultural lineage of piano works from different historical periods as the main thread. Among them, the first stage is 1949-1966, the seventeen years of unprecedented prosperity of piano creation in the early years of the founding of the country. To make piano music more accessible to the masses, the subjects of piano works had regional and mass characteristics, the melodies tended to be folk materials while not using overly complex musical language and the melody was served by form, weave, and harmony. The second stage was from 1967 to 1977, the decade of the Cultural Revolution. Although the subject matter could only be pianistic adaptations of model operas, revolutionary songs, and traditional instrumental pieces, it prompted composers to dig deeper into the musical language and explore the perfect use of folk music patterns, traditional branching vocal weaves, and nationalized harmonies in the piano. The third stage is 1978-2019, the period of diversified development. A variety of modern Western music genres influenced Chinese piano music composition. Composers used and modernized ethnic materials to varying degrees, resulting in different approaches to ethnicized subject matter. Non-traditional tonality and dissonant acoustics are two of the main characteristics of the musical language at this stage. Nationalization and modernization are explored in Chinese piano works in multiple ways, with remarkable achievements.
Perceptions of developing creativity in piano performance and pedagogy: An interview study from the Chinese perspective

Abstract:Although creativity in music is a topic widely considered and studied among global music educators, it has received limited attention in China while quite a number of Chinese pianists have been recognized on the international stage. How do Chinese pianists and professors perceive creativity in piano performance? How would they nurture creativity in the performances of their own and/or their students? Employing the Grounded Theory approach, this study investigated the perceptions of creativity in piano performance of 13 eminent pianists and professors from Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou through a series of semi-structured interviews. The interviewees identified several factors related to the development of musical creativity in piano performance, including pianists' relevant knowledge, their musical and life experiences, imagination and association, reflection and musical judgment, performing environments, and the Chinese cultural elements of holism and dynamism. Implications for teaching include the encouragement of a balance between Western and Chinese epistemologies in both analytical and abstract thinking. In nurturing students' creativity in piano performances, students should live in culture-related contexts, and understand the world in a holistic epistemology with an abstract imagination. This study has further provided a more holistic understanding of how to nurture musical creativity with an alternative perspective.

Cultivating music students’ creativity in piano performance: a multiple-case study in China

Abstract:Although creativity in music performance is a global issue among music educators, it has nevertheless received less attention in China. How do piano teachers in China cultivate their students' performance creativity? This article reports on a multiple-case study undertaken in a university located in Guangzhou, China that aimed to examine the teaching strategies of three piano majors and observe their learning responses. The first author taught the students for 14 lessons within a semester, the data coming from a combination of video recordings for observation, self-reflection and semi-structured interviews. Qualitative data from the interviews and video recordings were coded based on the categories and themes that emerged from repeated observations of the video clips. The results indicate that teachers may cultivate performance creativity by nurturing students' imaginations as it relates to individual knowledge and experience. Autonomy in musical expression should be encouraged through teaching genres other than Classical music.

In my teaching for students who come from different colleges with different majors, I hope that I can interpret piano, human and passion through the knowledge and the way of thinking which they got from their professional learning. Abstract:Ethnic piano music, as a distinctive cultural form, embodies a rich tapestry of national sentiment and cultural significance. Local higher education institutions, serving as crucial bastions of cultural preservation, integrate ethnic music culture into their piano instruction. This integration not only enhances students' musical proficiency but also fosters the continuation and evolution of ethnic culture. However, local higher education institutions currently face challenges such as uniform curriculum design and outdated teaching methods, which hinder the effective dissemination of ethnic piano music culture. This study, through literature review, empirical investigation, and case analysis, explores strategies for constructing ethnic piano music culture within local higher education settings. The research identifies that optimizing teaching content and curriculum design, innovating teaching methods and approaches, enhancing teacher training and professional development, and improving student engagement and evaluation mechanisms can significantly advance the spread and application of ethnic piano music culture in local higher education institutions. By reviewing literature and policy interpretations, China has shown increasing emphasis on music education, focusing on the comprehensive development of students' abilities. Employing piano accompaniment to showcase musical works to students, foster an understanding of the emotions and meanings within these works, create a favorable musical ambiance, stimulate students' enthusiasm and interest in music, and evoke an emotional resonance between students and composers. Additionally, it facilitates students' comprehension of music knowledge, broadens their artistic horizons, enhances the diversity of music classes, improves the efficiency of music classroom teaching, cultivates students' correct aesthetic taste in music, and elevates their artistic accomplishment. This paper begins with an overview of piano accompaniment, analyzes its current status in music classroom teaching, and then delves into its application and analysis in music education.
