Functional equations of the dilogarithm in motivic cohomology

Abstract:We prove relations between fractional linear cycles in Bloch's integral cubical higher Chow complex in codimension two of number fields, which correspond to functional equations of the dilogarithm. These relations suffice, as we shall demonstrate with a few examples, to write down enough relations in Bloch's integral higher Chow group CH^2(F,3) for certain number fields F to detect torsion cycles. Using the regulator map to Deligne cohomology, one can check the non-triviality of the torsion cycles thus obtained. Using this combination of methods, we obtain explicit higher Chow cycles generating the integral motivic cohomology groups of some number fields.

Abstract:In this article we study operators with a dimension Δ ∼ O ( N ) and show that simple analytic expressions for the action of the dilatation operator can be found. The operators we consider are restricted Schur polynomials. There are two distinct classes of operators that we consider: operators labeled by Young diagrams with two long columns or two long rows. The main complication in working with restricted Schur polynomials is in building a projector from a given S n + m irreducible representation to an S n × S m irreducible representation (both specified by the labels of the restricted Schur polynomial). We give an explicit construction of these projectors by reducing it to the simple problem of addition of angular momentum in ordinary non-relativistic quantum mechanics. The diagonalization of the dilatation operator reduces to solving three term recursion relations. The fact that the recursion relations have only three terms is a direct consequence of the weak mixing at one loop of the restricted Schur polynomials. The recursion relations can be solved exactly in terms of symmetric Kravchuk polynomials or in terms of Clebsch-Gordan coefficients. This proves that the dilatation operator reduces to a decoupled set of harmonic oscillators and therefore it is integrable.
Logarithmic tautological rings of the moduli spaces of curves

Abstract:We define the logarithmic tautological rings of the moduli spaces of Deligne-Mumford stable curves (together with a set of additive generators lifting the decorated strata classes of the standard tautological rings). While these algebras are infinite dimensional, a connection to polyhedral combinatorics via a new theory of homological piecewise polynomials allows an effective study. A complete calculation is given in genus 0 via the algebra of piecewise polynomials on the cone stack of the associated Artin fan (lifting Keel's presentation of the Chow ring of $\overline{\mathcal{M}}_{0,n}$). Counterexamples to the simplest generalizations in genus 1 are presented. We show, however, that the structure of the log tautological rings is determined by the complete knowledge of all relations in the standard tautological rings of the moduli spaces of curves. In particular, Pixton's conjecture concerning relations in the standard tautological rings lifts to a complete conjecture for relations in the log tautological rings of the moduli spaces of curves. Several open questions are discussed. We develop the entire theory of logarithmic tautological classes in the context of arbitrary smooth normal crossings pairs $(X,D)$ with explicit formulas for intersection products. As a special case, we give an explicit set of additive generators of the full logarithmic Chow ring of $(X,D)$ in terms of Chow classes on the strata of $X$ and piecewise polynomials on the cone stack.

Abstract:On any smooth algebraic variety over a p p -adic local field, we construct a tensor functor from the category of de Rham p p -adic étale local systems to the category of filtered algebraic vector bundles with integrable connections satisfying the Griffiths transversality, which we view as a p p -adic analogue of Deligne’s classical Riemann–Hilbert correspondence. A crucial step is to construct canonical extensions of the desired connections to suitable compactifications of the algebraic variety with logarithmic poles along the boundary, in a precise sense characterized by the eigenvalues of residues; hence the title of the paper. As an application, we show that this p p -adic Riemann–Hilbert functor is compatible with the classical one over all Shimura varieties, for local systems attached to representations of the associated reductive algebraic groups.

Abstract:Using Abel's five-term relation, we obtain a new two-parameter series identity for the Rogers dilogarithm. By specializing this identity we are able to derive dilogarithm series involving Lucas sequences. These identities generalize some results of Bridgeman, which were obtained using a completely different approach.

Abstract:In this paper, we show how to deduce several moment integrals by the method of q-difference equation. In addition, we obtain several generalizations of transformational identities by the technique of moment integrals. Meanwhile, we obtain some special cases of bilateral-unilateral series and the Rogers-Ramanujan identities as by-products. Moreover, we give two mixed generating functions for generalized Rogers-Szego polynomials by moment integrals and derive two transformational identities by symmetry. At last, a trilinear generating function for generalized Rogers-Szego polynomials is given by moment integrals.

Abstract:In this paper, we are mainly interested in using the $q$-exponential operator of Chen [8] in proving identities involving the generalized Rogers-Szegö polynomials r$_{n}(x,b;q)$ of Saad [11], the $(s,t)$-derivatives of Partial Theta function $\Theta_{0}(x,q)$ of Ramanujan, the generalized simplicial $d$-polytopic numbers $\fibonomial{n+d}{d}_{s,t}$, and the deformed $(s,t)$-trinomial series, both introduced in this paper. In particular, we will give the deformed and non-deformed ordinary generating functions of the sequences $\rr_{n}(x,b;q)$, $\fibonomial{n+d}{d}_{s,t}$, $\qbinom{n+d}{d}_{q}^2$, and $\qbinom{n+d}{d}_{q}\rr_{n}(x,b;q)$. We also derive $(s,t)$-analogues of the alternating sums of squares and sums of cubes.

Abstract:We present a new method to solve certain ∂ ̄ \bar \partial -equations for logarithmic differential forms by using harmonic integral theory for currents on Kähler manifolds. The result can be considered as a ∂ ∂ ̄ \partial \bar \partial -lemma for logarithmic forms. As applications, we generalize the result of Deligne about closedness of logarithmic forms, give geometric and simpler proofs of Deligne’s degeneracy theorem for the logarithmic Hodge to de Rham spectral sequences at E 1 E_1 -level, as well as a certain injectivity theorem on compact Kähler manifolds. Furthermore, for a family of logarithmic deformations of complex structures on Kähler manifolds, we construct the extension for any logarithmic ( n , q ) (n,q) -form on the central fiber and thus deduce the local stability of log Calabi-Yau structure by extending an iteration method to the logarithmic forms. Finally we prove the unobstructedness of the deformations of a log Calabi-Yau pair and a pair on a Calabi-Yau manifold by the differential geometric method.

Quantum dilogarithms over local fields and invariants of 3-manifolds

Abstract:To each local field (including the real or complex numbers) we associate a quantum dilogarithm and show that it satisfies a pentagon identity and some symmetries. Using an angled version of these quantum dilogarithms, we construct three generalized TQFTs in 2+1 dimensions, one given by a face state-integral and two given by edge state-integrals. Their partition functions rise to distributional invariants of 3-manifolds with torus boundary, conjecturally related to point counting of the $A$-polynomial curve. The partition function of one of these face generalized TQFTs for the case of the real numbers can be expressed either as a multidimensional Barnes-Mellin integral or as a period on a curve which is conjecturally the $A$-polynomial curve.

Cluster Algebras and Dilogarithm Identities

Abstract:This is a reasonably self-contained exposition of the fascinating interplay between cluster algebras and the dilogarithm in the recent two decades. The dilogarithm has a long and rich history since Euler. The most intriguing property of the function is that it satisfies various functional relations, which we call dilogarithm identities (DIs). In the 1990s Gliozzi and Tateo conjectured a family of DIs based on root systems, which vastly generalize the classic DIs such as Euler's and Abel's identities. On the other hand, the cluster algebras are a class of commutative algebras introduced by Fomin and Zelevinsky around 2000. It turned out that a DI is associated with each period in a cluster pattern of cluster algebra theory. In particular, they solve the conjecture on the DIs by Gliozzi and Tateo. We employ these DIs as the leitmotif and present several proofs, variations, and generalizations of them with various methods and techniques. The quantum DIs are also treated from the unified point of view with the classical ones.

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce the Rogers-Szegö deformed $q$-differential operators g$_{n}(bD_{q}|u)$ based on $q$-differential operator $D_{q}$. The motivation for introducing the operators g$_{n}(bD_{q})$ is that their limit turns out to be the $q$-exponential operator T$(bD_{q})$ given by Chen. The deformed homogeneous Al-Salam-Carlitz polynomials $\Psi_{m}^{(q^{-n})}(ub,x|uq^{-1})$ can easily be represented by using the operators g$_{n}(bD_{q}|u)$. Identities relating the new general Al-Salam-Carlitz polynomial, defined by Cao et al., the generalized, and homogeneous Al-Salam-Carlitz polynomials $\Phi_{m}^{(q^n)}(b,x|q)$ and basic hypergeometric series are given.

Abstract:We study the full sigma model with target the three-dimensional Heisenberg nilmanifold by means of a Hamiltonian formulation of double field theory. We show that the expected T -duality with the sigma model on a torus endowed with H-flux is a manifest symmetry of the theory. We compute correlation functions of scalar fields and show that they exhibit dilogarithmic singularities. We show how the reflection and pentagonal identities of the dilogarithm can be interpreted in terms of correlators with 4 and 5 insertions.

Abstract:A quantum analogue of the dilogarithm function has been introduced recently by Faddeev and Kashaev in such a way that a certain identity in the Weyl algebra ($) over bar W-q plays the role of the five-term dilogarithm identity. We study this identity in the limit when q approaches a root of unity and show that it then reduces to the 'restricted star-triangle relation' which has been used previously by Bazhanov and Baxter as a local integrability condition of a class of three-dimensional solvable lattice models.

Abstract:We extend Halphen's theorem which characterizes the solutions of certain $n$th-order differential equations with rational coefficients and meromorphic fundamental systems to a first-order $n \times n$ system of differential equations. As an application of this circle of ideas we consider stationary rational algebro-geometric solutions of the $\kdv$ hierarchy and illustrate some of the connections with completely integrable models of the Calogero-Moser-type. In particular, our treatment recovers the complete characterization of the isospectral class of such rational KdV solutions in terms of a precise description of the Airault-McKean-Moser locus of their poles.

Abstract:The two Rogers–Ramanujan q-series ∑n=0∞qn(n+σ)(1−q)⋯(1−qn), where σ=0,1, play many roles in mathematics and physics. By the Rogers–Ramanujan identities, they are essentially modular functions. Their quotient, the Rogers–Ramanujan continued fraction, has the special property that its singular values are algebraic integral units. We find a framework which extends the Rogers–Ramanujan identities to doubly infinite families of q-series identities. If a∈{1,2} and m,n≥1, then we have ∑λ,λ1≤mqa|λ|P2λ(1,q,q2,…;qn)=[infiniteproductmodularfunction],where the Pλ(x1,x2,…;q) are Hall–Littlewood polynomials. These q-series are specialized characters of affine Kac–Moody algebras. Generalizing the Rogers–Ramanujan continued fraction, we prove in the case of A2n(2) that the relevant q-series quotients are integral units.

Abstract:We introduce the notion of a regular integrable connection on a smooth log scheme over $\mathbf{C}$ and construct an equivalence between the category of such connections and the category of integrable connections on its analytification, compatible with de Rham cohomology. This extends the work of Deligne (when the log structure is trivial), and combined with the work of Ogus yields a topological description of the category of regular connections in terms of certain constructible sheaves on the Kato--Nakayama space. The key ingredients are the notion of a canonical extension in this context and the existence of good compactifications of log schemes obtained recently by Włodarczyk.

Abstract:Recent developments in the theory of quantum integrable particle systems in one-dimension with inverse square interactions are reviewed. First the Yangian symmetry is introduced and the energy spectra of the related spin models are discussed. The character of the su(n)1 WZNW theory is shown to be closely related with the Rogers–Szegö polynomial. Second, the infinite dimensional representation for solutions of the Yang–Baxter equation and the reflection equation is given. Based on the representation, the Dunkl operators associated with the classical root systems are constructed. The Macdonald polynomial and its generalization are discussed in connection with the eigenstates for the trigonometric case. Finally, some results on short-range interacting systems are mentioned.

Abstract:We study the fundamental groups of the exchange graphs for the bounded derived category D(Q) of a Dynkin quiver Q and the finite-dimensional derived category D(ΓNQ) of the Calabi–Yau-N Ginzburg algebra associated to Q. In the case of D(Q), we prove that its space of stability conditions (in the sense of Bridgeland) is simply connected. As an application, we show that the Donaldson–Thomas type invariant associated to Q can be calculated as a quantum dilogarithm function on its exchange graph. In the case of D(ΓNQ), we show that the faithfulness of the Seidel–Thomas braid group action (which is known for Q of type A or N=2) implies the simply connectedness of the space of stability conditions.
