Abstract:A mild and efficient method for the synthesis of 2,5-disubstituted chalcogenophenes is reported. This method involves two steps of reactions via one-pot approach by employing commercially available and cost-effective alkynes and element chalcogen. Further, by using LiNH2 as the promoter and DMSO/EtOH as the solvent, Cu-catalyzed Glaser coupling-cycloaddition processes are dramatically enhanced that a diverse range of chalcogenophenes can be obtained in good to excellent yields under mild conditions. Controlled experiments show that trisulfur radical anion (S3 & sdot;-) is the key intermediate and DMSO/EtOH serves as the hydrogen source, while alcohol may facilitate the transition state. The mild and highly efficient constructions of 2,5-disubstitued thiophenes, selenophenes and tellurophenes are achieved by using a one-pot, two-step protocol that combine Cu-catalyzed Glaser coupling with LiNH2-mediated cycloaddition. And the DMSO/EtOH mixture solvent is found to short the reaction time and improve the reaction yield by promoting the production of S3 & sdot;- and stabilizing the transition state.image

Abstract:A mild and general procedure for the difluoromethylation of organochalcogen compounds has been accomplished via sulfoxide and selenoxide-directed [3,3]-sigmatropic rearrangement/Haller-Bauer reaction with difluoroenoxysilanes. The reactions showed good functional group compatibility, wide substrate applicability, and facile scalability. The synthetic utility is highlighted by the iterative use of this protocol to construct multi-CF2H-containing chalcogenides and the late-stage modification of pharmaceuticals.

Abstract:An efficient, eco-friendly, and scalable protocol has been introduced for the p-selective C-X (X = Se/S) bond formation of phenols employing earth-abundant, less-toxic Fe(III)-catalysts and the green solvent ethanol without using any directing template, stabilizing ligands, oxidants, or additives. The key attraction lies in the impressive p-selectivity with moderate to good yields, wide functional group compatibility under mild aerobic reaction conditions, and the synthetic modification of the products towards value-added molecules.

Abstract:We report, herein, a photoinduced iron-catalyzed direct chlorination of aromatic sulfonyl chloride at room temperature. In this protocol, FeCl(3)-catalyzed direct chlorination has been realized at room temperature under the irradiation of light (400-410 nm). During the process, many commercially or readily available substituted aromatic sulfonyl chlorides could produce the corresponding aromatic chlorides in moderate to good yields.

Abstract:The practical and diversified functionalization of ubiquitous C(sp3)–H bonds is an economically attractive yet chemically challenging approach to build molecular complexity from abundant chemical raw materials. Herein, we have identified a very robust and practical FeCl3/HCl photocatalytic system that enables greatly efficient C–H alkylation, oxidation, chlorination, fluorination, amination, alkynylation, and sulfonylation with total turnover number (TON) of up to 9,900. The aliphatic C–H activation is mediated by chlorine radical, in situ generated from a photoactive tetrahedral [FeIIICl4]− via ligand-to-metal charge transfer excitation, and the use of HCl as co-catalyst significantly improves the total TON by more than one order of magnitude.

Abstract:An efficient copper-mediated ortho-C(sp2)-H thiolation of aromatic amides directed by a novel directing group [4-chloro-2-(1H-pyrazol-1-yl)phenyl]amine has been developed without the need of other additives or oxidants, allowing for an increased usefulness. With the high compatibility of sterically demanding substrates, this reaction is scalable and can tolerate a wide scope of functional groups to provide alkyl and aryl thioethers in good to excellent yields (up to 93%). Furthermore, the protocol has been successfully implemented for the selenylation as well.

Abstract:A Lewis-acid-mediated intramolecular trifluoromethylthiolation of alkenes with phenols that can offer direct access to SCF3-containing chromane and dihydrobenzofuran compounds was disclosed for the first time. Numerous SCF3-containing chromanes were obtained in moderate to good yields using.-substituted 2-allyphenols as substrates. Abstract:The construction of C(sp 3 )–S bonds through C(sp 3 )–H activation holds significant value in the synthesis of sulfides. However, the vast majority of strategies primarily involve the use of electron-rich sulfur sources (such as sulfinates and thioalcohols) to thiolate activated and thermodynamically favored C(sp 3 )–H bonds. Therefore, further expanding the substrate range of sulfur sources and various C(sp 3 )–H bonds would provide an entry for the synthesis of unique structural molecules. Here, we report a FeCl 3 /HCl synergistic catalytic approach that enables the formation of C(sp 3 )–S bonds via reductive deoxygenation cross-coupling of activated/inert C(sp 3 )–H and aryl/alkyl sulfonyl chlorides without the need for external reductants. Mechanism studies reveal that HCl plays a crucial role in the thiolation of inert C(sp 3 )–H bonds, not only enhancing the catalytic activity of FeCl 3 but also forming electron donor–acceptor (EDA) complexes with sulfonyl chlorides.

Abstract:A straightforward and efficient electrochemical method for the anodic oxidative selenenylation of 2-(2-arylallyl)phenols and a 2-(3-arylbut-3-en-1-yl)phenol with diselenides under ambient air conditions has been outlined. This method allows for the synthesis of selenyl-dihydrobenzofurans and a chromane featuring a sterically hindered tetrasubstituted carbon center, demonstrated through 25 examples with yields reaching up to 98%. Initial mechanistic investigations suggest the likely participation of pivotal seleniranium cation species in regulating the reactivity. Abstract:Enantioselective intermolecular three-component oxysulfenylations of alkenes with phenols and alcohols as O-nucleophiles were achieved using chiral BINAM-derived sulfide/phosphoric acid as the co-catalyst. Notably, chiral BINAM-derived sulfide/phosphoric acid co-catalysis was first explored to successfully catalyze highly enantioselective transformation. A variety of sulfur-containing benzylic aryl ethers and benzylic alkyl ethers, which contained two contiguous chiral stereocenters, were obtained readily in moderate to excellent yields with high to excellent enantioselectivities. This protocol featured a broad substrate scope with excellent functional group tolerance and high chemo-, regio-, and enantioselectivity. Computational studies were performed to explain the origin of the high selectivity. Additionally, the calculation results indicated that the supposed commonly racemization "olefin-to-olefin" transfer process of thiiranium ion did not occur in this system. [GRAPHICS] .

Abstract:The new chalcogenylation of phosphines using nBu4N‧XCN (X = S, Se) is described. The reaction in 1,2-dichloroethane at 120 °C provided the corresponding phosphine sulfides in good to high yields. The protocol could be extended to the synthesis of phosphinic acid derivatives as well as sulfurization of poly(styrene-co-4-styryldiphenylphosphine).

Abstract:A method for electrophilic sulfenylation by organophosphorus-catalyzed deoxygenative O-atom transfer from sulfonyl chlorides is reported. This C-S bond-forming reaction is catalyzed by a readily available small-ring phosphine (phosphetane) in conjunction with a hydrosilane terminal reductant to afford a general entry to sulfenyl electrophiles, including valuable trifluoromethyl, perfluoroalkyl, and heteroaryl derivatives that are otherwise difficult to access. Mechanistic investigations indicate that the twofold deoxygenation of the sulfonyl substrate proceeds by the intervention of an off-cycle resting state thiophosphonium ion. The catalytic method represents an operationally simple protocol using a stable phosphine oxide as a precatalyst and exhibits broad functional-group tolerance.

Abstract:Compounds with the benzisothiazol-3-one (BIT) skeleton perform excellently in pharmaceutical science, while current synthetic methods remain limited in term of synthetic efficiency. Herein, we report the catalytic intramolecular N-S bond formation for BITs from easily prepared disulfide precursors by an Fe(III) dithiolate through O2 activation at 298 K. Interestingly, the catalytic performance is enhanced by substituting O2 with a milder O-donor oxidant, ONMe3. Catalytic oxygenation of PPh3 to OPPh3 can also proceed under the similar conditions. In addition, the first anionic monosulfenato Fe(III) species, Fe(III)-S(=O)R, is isolated with structural characterization from the reaction of Fe(III) thiolate and ONMe3.
