Abstract:As for the dynamics of a photovoltaic device, persistent photovoltage, generally implying long-lived charge carriers, is expected. Although in the observation of open-circuit photovoltage decay in perovskite devices an ultraslow process is often reported, the understandings and discussions are never short of arguments. The mobile ions are usually speculated to be responsible for the long-lived dynamics; however, the perovskite is proved to be an ionic conductor, and the ionic–electronic contribution is not easy to be distinguished. The present work provides an innovative transient optoelectronic method to investigate the ultraslow dynamics exempting the interference of an electronic contribution, which shows direct evidence that the long-lived photovoltage decay process should be assigned to the diffusion dynamics of the mobile ions rather than the charge carrier recombination, and the diffusion lifetime is estimated to be 1.45 s in a planar-structured perovskite device. These conclusions are drawn according to systematic investigations of an unreported voltage recovery response after photogenerated charges are completely exhausted during charge extraction measurement. This work could pave the way for a deeper understanding of the slow dynamics in perovskite solar cells. The Supporting Information is available free of charge at <a class="ext-link" href="/doi/10.1021/acsaem.0c00908?goto=supporting-info">https://pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/acsaem.0c00908</a>.Experimental details, detailed process of OCVR, data reliability analysis, voltage recovery response of DSSCs, charge extraction dynamics of the voltage recovery, extraction process of the lifetime, hysteresis properties of the devices, and data processing examples (<a class="ext-link" href="/doi/suppl/10.1021/acsaem.0c00908/suppl_file/ae0c00908_si_001.pdf">PDF</a>)This article has not yet been cited by other publications.
