Abstract:In this work we introduce a new method for manufacturing minimal submanifolds of Riemannian manifolds of codimension two. For this we employ the so-called complex-valued eigenfunctions . This is particularly interesting in the cases when the Riemannian ambient manifold is compact. We then give several explicit examples in important cases.

Abstract:In this paper we study the problem of conformally deforming a metric to a prescribed symmetric function of the eigenvalues of the Schouten tensor on compact Riemannian manifolds with boundary. We prove its solvability and the compactness of the solution set, provided the Ricci tensor is nonnegative-definite.

Abstract:This paper deals with superminimal surfaces in complex space forms by using theFrenet framing. We formulate explicitly the length squares of the higher fundamental forms andthe higher curvatures for superminimal surfaces in terms of the metric of the surface and the Khlerangle of the immersion. Particularly, some curvature pinching theorems for minimal 2-spheres in acomplex projective space are given and a new characterization of the Veronese sequence is obtained.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the compact minimal submanifold M-n(n >= 3) in the complex projective space CPn+p/2 (1). Denote by S the square norm of the second fundamental form. Set, (S) over tilde = S + 1/2 vertical bar t vertical bar(2) and epsilon = inf(M)vertical bar P vertical bar(2) , where P, t are the tensors defined in (2.1) below. We first, prove such that if parallel to S parallel to(n/2) < alpha 1 (n, epsilon) for epsilon > 0, then M is a totally geodesic submanifold CPn/2. Moreover, we prove if parallel to(S) over tilde parallel to(n/2) < alpha 3(n), where alpha 3(n) is an explicit positive constant depending only on n, then M is a totally geodesic submanifold CPn/2. We also prove other global pinching theorems for minimal submanifolds in the complex projective space.

Abstract:Minimal submanifolds are critical points of the volume functional. It plays an important role in the geometry of submanifolds and has been widely and deeply studied. In this paper, we survey the stability and the index of minimal submanifolds in several special ambient spaces. In the first part, we mainly summarize known results on the existence and the classification of closed stable submanifolds of arbitrary codimension in compact rank one symmetric spaces and product manifolds. In the second part, we exhibit results on minimal hypersurfaces with lower index in a sphere, a projective space and the product manifold of two spheres, including a new result of the author.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove a classification theorem for stable compact minimal submanifolds of a Riemannian product of an m1-dimensional (m1≥3) hypersurface M1 in Euclidean space and any Riemannian manifold M2, when the sectional curvature KM1 of M1 satisfies 1m1−1≤KM1≤1. In particular, when the ambient space is an m-dimensional (m≥3) compact hypersurface M in Euclidean space, if the sectional curvature KM of M satisfies 1m+1≤KM≤1, then we conclude that there exist no stable compact minimal submanifolds in M.

Abstract:We study the higher expansion properties of locally symmetric spaces, with a particular focus on octonionic hyperbolic manifolds. We show that codimension two minimal submanifolds of compact octonionic locally symmetric spaces must have large volume, at least linear in the volume of the ambient space. As a corollary we prove linear waist inequalities for octonionic hyperbolic manifolds in codimension two and construct the first locally symmetric examples of power-law systolic freedom. We also show that any codimension two submanifold of small volume can be homotoped to a lower dimensional set. We use this to prove that branched covers of octonionic hyperbolic manifolds are stable in the sense of Dinur-Meshulam and to establish a uniform lower bound on the non-abelian Cheeger constants of octonionic hyperbolic manifolds. In a more general setting, we prove that maps from locally symmetric spaces to low dimensional euclidean spaces admit fibers whose fundamental group has large exponent of growth. We show as a consequence that cocompact lattices in $SL_n(\mathbb{R})$ have property $ FA_{\lfloor n/8\rfloor-1}$: any action on a contractible $CAT(0)$ simplicial complex of dimension at most $ \lfloor n/8\rfloor -1$ has a global fixed point.

Abstract:In this paper, we compute the index and nullity for minimal submanifolds of some complex Einstein spaces. We investigate the stability of these minimal submanifolds and suggest a criterion for instability for some cases. We also compute some higher eigenvalues for the Laplacian of the Berger spheres and provide with an algorithm.

Abstract:We give a new method for manufacturing complete minimal submanifolds of compact Lie groups and their homogeneous quotient spaces. For this we make use of harmonic morphisms and basic representation theory of Lie groups. We then apply our method to construct many examples of compact minimal submanifolds of the special unitary groups.

Abstract:We investigated minimal helix submanifolds of any dimension and codimension immersed in Euclidean space. Our main result proves that a ruled minimal helix submanifold is a cylinder. As an application we classify complex helix submanifolds of Cn$${\mathbb {C}}^n$$: They are extrinsic products with a complex line as a factor. The key tool is Corollary 1.3 which allows us to classify Riemannian foliations of open subsets of the Euclidean space with minimal leaves. Finally, we consider the case of a helix hypersurface with constant mean curvature and prove that it is either a cylinder or an open part of a hyperplane.

Abstract:Stable compact minimal submanifolds of the product of a sphere and any Riemannian manifold are classified whenever the dimension of the sphere is at least three. The complete classification of the stable compact minimal submanifolds of the product of two spheres is obtained. Also, it is proved that the only stable compact minimal surfaces of the product of a 2-sphere and any Riemann surface are the complex ones.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the rigidity for an n(≥ 4) -dimensional submanifold M^n with parallel mean curvature in the space form 𝕄^n+p_c when the integral Ricci curvature of M has some bound. We prove that, if c+H^2>0 and ‖Ric_-^λ‖ _n/2< ϵ (n,c, λ , H) for λ satisfying n-2n-1 (c+H^2) < λ≤ c+H^2 , then M is the totally umbilical sphere 𝕊^n( 1√(c+H^2)) . Here H is the norm of the parallel mean curvature of M , and ϵ (n,c,λ , H) is a positive constant depending only on n, c,λ and H . This extends part of the earlier work of Xu and Gu (Geom Funct Anal 23(5):1684–1703, 2013) from pointwise Ricci curvature lower bound to integral Ricci curvature lower bound.

Abstract:A new proof of a theorem that describes $(\lambda, \mu)$-eigenfunctions on sphere is obtained. This proof is based on a statement that a function $f$ is a $(\lambda, \mu)$-eigenfunction if and only if $f$ and $f^2$ are eigenfunctions for Laplace-Beltrami operator. Also, minimal submanifolds in spheres of codimension 1 are constructed. In the case of $\mathbb{S}^3$ two immersions of Clifford torus and all Lawson $\tau_{n, m}$ surfaces are described in terms of $(\lambda, \mu)$-eigenfunctions.

Abstract:We introduce a structural approach to study Lagrangian submanifolds of the complex hyperquadric in arbitrary dimension by using its family of non-integrable almost product structures.In particular,we define local angle functions encoding the geometry of the Lagrangian submanifold at hand.We prove that these functions are constant in the special case that the Lagrangian immersion is the Gauss map of an isoparametric hypersurface of a sphere and give the relation with the constant principal curvatures of the hypersurface.We also use our techniques to classify all minimal Lagrangian submanifolds of the complex hyperquadric which have constant sectional curvatures and all minimal Lagrangian submanifolds for which all local angle functions,respectively all but one,coincide.

Abstract:Using Legendrian immersions and, in particular, Legendre curves in odd-dimensional spheres and anti-de Sitter spaces, we construct new examples of Hamiltonian-minimal Lagrangian submanifolds in complex projective and hyperbolic spaces, including explicit one-parameter families of embeddings of quotients of certain product manifolds. We also give new examples of minimal Lagrangian submanifolds in complex projective and hyperbolic spaces. Making use of all these constructions, we get Hamiltonian-minimal and special Lagrangian cones in complex Euclidean space as well.
