Abstract:The 2,6-diaminopyridin-1-ium hydrogen glutarate (2,6 DAG) organic crystal has been grown using the slow evaporation method. Density functional theory (DFT) calculation of B3LYP/6-311G++ (d,p) level was used to optimize the molecular structure of the 2,6 DAG molecule. The H–H and O–H/H–O interactions are predominant in the crystal packing of 2,6 DAG crystals. In the FT-IR and FT-Raman spectra, the presence of symmetric stretching C–H modes is observed at 3063 cm −1 and 3050 cm −1 , 3117 cm −1 , respectively. The cut-off wavelength of 2,6 DAG crystals is 350 nm. The HOMO charge density is situated over the glutaric acid. The molecular orbital compositions and their chemical bonding are represented by DOS plots. The H21 (0.64) atom has higher positive charge than the other hydrogen atoms. The electrophilic and nucleophilic sites of the 2,6 DAG molecules are found using MEP analysis. From NBO analysis it is found that the intermolecular interactions occur by the overlapping of the σ–σ*, π–π*, σ–π*, LP–σ* and LP–π* orbitals. The TG curve shows that weight loss occurs in four different stages. The photoluminescence study is carried out from 320 to 600 nm. Theoretical analysis revealed that the 2,6 DAG has considerable hyperpolarizability value (12.4 × 10 −30 esu). The Kurtz Perry powder technique confirms the second-order nonlinear behaviour of 2,6 DAG.
