Abstract:This study examines the impact of digital transformation on the financial performance of Indonesian state-owned banks, using risk preference as a moderating variable. The study utilizes data from the annual financial reports of Indonesian state-owned banks from 2019 to 2023. Digital transformation is measured through text mining of annual reports, bank performance is primarily indicated by Net Interest Margin (NIM), and risk preference is assessed using the Z-score. Given the presence of autocorrelation in the fixed effects model, the Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) is employed. The results reveal that digital transformation does not directly affect bank performance. However, this relationship is significantly moderated by the banks' risk preferences. Banks with higher risk preference tend to leverage digital transformation more effectively, resulting in increased profitability and higher risks. Conversely, banks with lower risk preferences adopt digital technologies more cautiously, achieving steadier but potentially lower gains. These findings offer valuable insights for policymakers and bank managers in the Indonesian banking sector, emphasizing balancing technological advancements with risk management to maintain financial stability. This study highlights the crucial role of digital transformation in enhancing bank performance when aligned with risk management strategies and contributes to the understanding of the complex relationship between digital transformation, risk preference, and bank performance in emerging economies, particularly in the context of state-owned banks.

Abstract:The focus of this research revolves around applying the dynamic capabilities (DC) considering technological, organizational, and environmental dimensions (TOE framework) to explore the digital transformation (DT) and innovation. The current literature has shown a limited focus on integrating DC with the TOE framework, inspiring this research to address this gap. This research adopts a quantitative approach employing partial least square structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM), leveraging a survey with 325 respondents from 48 banks in Indonesia. The study identifies the necessary organizational capabilities for DT and innovation, encompassing technological capabilities representing technology, strategic and organizational capabilities representing the organizational dimension, as well as ecosystem and governance-risk-compliance (GRC) capabilities representing the environmental dimension. The findings unveil that technology and ecosystem capabilities have a positive and significant impact on DT and innovation. Organizational capabilities positively influence innovation but exhibit a negative impact on DT. Strategic capabilities positively affect DT and negatively impact innovation, while GRC capability enhances its role in DT, contributing to improved company performance. This research adds to the theoretical understanding of DC within the TOE framework and offers managerial insights to assist the banking sector in effectively managing capabilities for successful DT and innovation.

Problems and Perspectives in Management

Abstract:In the digitalization era, banks strive to implement digital transformations; digital culture, competence, and leadership become essential factors to advance the company’s digitalization. Digital transformation is indispensable in improving employee performance amidst rapid digital advancements, helping companies stay competitive and avoid falling behind fintech and banking rivals. The study aims to examine the influence of digital transformations on banking employee performance in Indonesia, targeting state-owned banks. Primary data were gathered through questionnaires involving 100 participants. Data analysis employed partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) to assess the influence of independent on dependent and mediating variables. The results demonstrate that digital culture (p < 0.05), digital competency (p < 0.05), and digital leadership (p < 0.05) positively and significantly influence employee performance. Self-efficacy does not function as a substantial mediating variable between digital culture (p > 0.05) or digital competence (p > 0.05) and employee performance. However, self-efficacy is a crucial mediating variable connecting digital leadership to employee success (p < 0.05). The study demonstrates that digital transformation in terms of culture, competence, and leadership can improve performance. Self-efficacy is able to mediate the effect of digital leadership on employee performance but fails to affect the influence of digital culture and digital capabilities on the performance of banking employees. Abstract:The dynamic of banking industry development globally moves forward rapidly and to be more specific, in the context of Asian, especially in the developing countries, such as Indonesia, the recent development of banking industry in Indonesia from 2020 has been aligned with the government work programs, national long-term development plan, as well as, national medium-term development plan, especially in supporting the national economic recovery program as a response to the impact of Covid-19. Research on the competitive advantage strategy of banks in the context of Asian region, especially developing countries, has been less discussed in the literature and the most interesting notion is that, as for the novelty of this study, it is crucial to explore the new era of financial technology, known as a fintech, which is currently blossoming within the banking services and markets. As such, this study intends to investigate the role competitive advantage strategy of bank through the emphasis on digital and human resource transformation towards financial technology era. By using a qualitative research method with the approach of case study, this study finds, as for theoretical contribution, that digital and human resource transformation do affect the behavior of bank in entering and adapting the financial technology era, for example, facilitating the human resource to acquire a new skills in related with the digital banking system. The recommendation of managerial contribution is also offered in this study within a particular section of this paper.

Abstract:The purpose of this paper is to assess the efficiency of the general banking industry in Indonesia on the use of digital banking and digital transformation. This paper is a research paper with quantitative methods and uses primary data collected by researchers using questionnaires. As for the data analysis method with PLS software SmartPls. The respondents were employees of commercial banks consisting of ten Islamic commercial banks and eleven conventional commercial banks. Findings - Investigative findings show that the banking industry in Indonesia is generally on a trend of increasing efficiency after implementing digital banking and digital transformation. And Financial Innovation does not moderate digital banking and digital transformation towards efficiency. This study provides a basis for regulators and bankers to improve efficiency in the banking sector by improving services to customers through the application of digital banking and digital transformation in order to improve banking performance. Originality/value – This paper presents new empirical findings on the state of efficiency of Commercial Banks in Indonesia after using digital banking and digital transformation.

Abstract:The integration of digital transformation into government agencies' performance management has become essential in enhancing public service delivery, efficiency, and accountability. This study focuses on implementing the Electronic System for Government Agency Performance Accountability (E-SAKIP) in Indonesia as a case study of digital transformation. The research employs a qualitative approach with a case study design to explore the effectiveness, challenges, and impact of E-SAKIP on performance management. The findings indicate that E-SAKIP has significantly improved transparency and efficiency in government operations, reducing time and costs associated with performance reporting by up to 70%. However, challenges such as inadequate infrastructure, resistance to change, and insufficient training for government employees have hindered its full potential. The study underscores the need for ongoing support, including enhanced infrastructure, continuous training, and stronger leadership to ensure successful digital transformation. These insights offer valuable recommendations for further development of E-SAKIP and similar systems in other government contexts.

Abstract:Bank 4.0 is about the ease of accessing banks or making banks in our hands. Also, the utility whenever and wherever we need financial solutions, in real-time, is programmed according to the behavior of each customer. Banks in their development can choose to change their business model towards digital banking. For this reason, it is necessary to carry out a good change management strategy so that the digital bank transformation process can be carried out. Not only those who are directly involved in the Change Management project but stakeholders within the organization are also involved. This study uses qualitative descriptive methods to design how change management strategies help banks transform into digital banks. The author collects several theories to explore the use of change management in organizations more deeply. In implementing change management, organizations can use a framework as introduced by Kurt Lewin, John Kotter, or the ADKAR framework from PROSCI. The ADKAR model is considered to have advantages in identifying gaps that occur during the change process by instilling awareness, desire, knowledge, ability, and reinforcement. The impact of this transformation led to changes in the organizational structure, business processes, and use of technology within the bank. It is hoped that applying the ADKAR model can help banks change their business models toward digital banking.

Abstract:Digital transformation in financial management has become the main focus for companies to achieve business success in the digital era. This research then aims to see the effect of digital transformation in financial management on efficiency, risk management, relations with external parties, and financial decision-making. The research method used in this research is qualitative research through library research. The data used in this study comes from the results of previous research and studies. The results of the study show that digital transformation in financial management brings significant benefits, such as increased operational efficiency through the automation of financial processes, real-time access to financial data for faster and more accurate decision-making, and improved relations with external parties through increased accessibility and the quality of financial services. However, challenges such as the security and privacy of financial data, cultural changes, and choosing the right technology solutions must also be addressed with care. To succeed in digital transformation in financial management, companies must adopt a strategic approach, mitigate risks, and engage stakeholders effectively.

Abstract:Digital transformation has been the center of attention in efforts to modernize government in Indonesia in the last decade. This article documents the evolution and impact of the Indonesian government's digital transformation initiatives from 2010 to 2024. The Indonesian government has taken significant steps in encouraging the adoption of information and communication technology (ICT) to improve administrative efficiency, increase openness, and provide easier and faster access to public services. Key initiatives include the development of an e-government platform that provides online services from various government departments and agencies, as well as the implementation of an integrated data management system to improve evidence-based decision-making. In addition, Indonesia has also moved towards further digitalization by utilizing big data to formulate public policies that are more effective and responsive to the needs of the community. The national digital infrastructure being developed, such as the Palapa Ring, is an important foundation in supporting equitable internet connectivity across the country, facilitating digital inclusion in remote and urban areas. However, this digital transformation process is also faced with a number of challenges, including data security, technology accessibility in remote areas, and the readiness of human resources to adopt new technologies. This article also highlights the government's efforts to build people's capacity to utilize digital technology effectively through training and education programs. Overall, the Indonesian government's digital transformation has had a significant impact in improving administrative efficiency and transparency, as well as expanding access to public services. This article concludes by evaluating the opportunities and challenges ahead, as well as the broader implications of digital transformation on public participation and inclusive economic growth in this digital era.

Abstract:This study aims to evaluate the challenges and opportunities arising from digital transformation and the digital economy, as well as their impact on human and physical resource development in the context of Indonesia. The methods used were a literature review and a qualitative approach. This study used secondary data obtained from academic articles published in the last 10 years. Data analysis techniques include material collection, data reduction, analysis and synthesis stages, and drawing conclusions. The results indicate that digital transformation brings economic and social opportunities. However, challenges also arise, such as digital divides among different groups, the level of human resource development, data and online system security, and taxation issues. Obstacles to be faced include slow regulatory reforms, bureaucratic complexity, government promotion in various regions, and digital infrastructure limitations. Strategic steps that need to be taken include developing appropriate policies, fostering collaboration between the public and private sectors, enhancing cybersecurity capacity, and promoting digital transformation domestically and internationally to advance national and regional economies. The key conclusion is that the main impact of the digital economy on the Indonesian economy as a whole includes market share growth, increased brand awareness, expanded customer reach, ease of business transactions, and increased product variety at competitive prices.

Abstract:The rapid growth of electronic transactions has transformed the landscape of many industries, especially in the banking sector. This digitalization growth has brought about the need to understand the impact of the adoption of electronic banking in rural banks on the financial performance of rural banks in Indonesia. The aim of this research is to analyze the extent to which the adoption of e-banking influences consumer electronic trust (e-trust) and financial performance. The research method used is quantitative, involving data collection through questionnaires. Respondents in this study are managers of rural banks in West Java, Indonesia. The sample size used is 200 participants. Data collection took place over two months from May to June 2023. Data analysis was performed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) through SmartPLS 4 software. The research results indicate that the adoption of e-banking has a positive and significant impact on consumer e-trust and financial performance. Consumer e-trust has also been proven to mediate the relationship between e-banking adoption and financial performance. These findings provide profound insights into how e-banking plays a key role in building consumer e-trust and enhancing the financial performance of banking institutions. This research makes a significant contribution in the context of developing e-banking strategies in the banking sector. The implications of these findings can guide policies, strategies, and innovations in the banking sector to optimize the benefits of electronic banking, build consumer e-trust, and enhance financial performance in this digital era.

Abstract:Introduction: Bank digital transformation is a continuous innovation from conventional commercial banks to digital banks. The driving force in traditional retail banks to carry out sustainable innovation can be seen from the internal and external sides in the form of mutually supportive operations and strategies. In the face of competitive pressures, businesses in the financial services industry increasingly depend on innovation and sustainability to succeed and survive. The stress of business competition has made many banks worldwide close their branch offices in recent years. Method: This study is a literature study that collects theoretical references relevant to sustainable innovation in financial institutions, focusing on two main topics: sustainable digital technology innovation in Fintech and banks' digital transformation. Result: Fintech uses digital technology as a sustainable solution in offering financial inclusion services that are difficult for old players in the financial industry to fulfill. Fintech appears in peer-to-peer lending, virtual marketplaces and digital currencies. For the Bank's digital transformation, several regulations from the Financial Services Authority related to sustainable innovation must be complied with. Financial Services Authority Regulation Number 51/POJK.03/2017 concerning implementing Sustainable Finance for Financial Services Institutions, Issuers and Public Companies. Financial Services Authority Regulation Number 13/POJK.02/2018 concerning Digital Financial Innovation in the Financial Services Sector. Conclusion: The driving force in the Company to carry out sustainable innovation can be seen from the internal and external sides in the form of mutually supportive operations and strategies. Abstract:Banking is a highly regulated and competitive industry because the competition does not occur between banks but also between banks and financial technology companies. Thus, to win the competition, banks compete to develop digital banking to increase their competitiveness. However, regional Development Banks (RDB) in Indonesia still need to catch up with their competitors in developing and reaching customers through digital banking channels. Research exploring the moderating role of digital banking has yet to be conducted. Therefore, we are investigating the moderating role of the relationship between competitive environment and bank competitiveness and exploring the relationship between the two independent variables and bank competitiveness. Using a survey, this explorative quantitative research examined 72 leaders and staff of the Strategic Planning Division from 27 RBDs in Indonesia and also members of the Change Management Office of the BPD Transformation Program formed by the Association of Indonesian Regional Development Banks and the Financial Services Authority. This study used a quantitative method which was analyzed by SmartPLS 4.0.8.7. Surprisingly, the data analysis results show that the role of digital banking to moderate the relationship between competitive environment and bank competitiveness is insignificant. However, the results also show a significant relationship between competitive environment and bank competitiveness, as well as digital banking and bank competitiveness. Even though it has several limitations, this research makes a scientific contribution to research on this topic and recommends several important contributions for enhancing the competitiveness of RBD in the Indonesian banking industry.

Abstract:Digital transformation is currently a very important agenda in the Indonesian Banking Industry. The era of globalization, and changes in customer transaction preferences during the Covid 19 pandemic, have encouraged companies to make various changes related to technology. Being adaptive and agile throughout the process is one of the foundations in maintaining the reliability and sustainability of the company. However, drastic changes and various uncertainties that arise during the transformation process can affect various aspects of human resources, such as motivation, job satisfaction and performance. In this study, the effect of transformational leadership and employee motivation on employee performance will be calculated through job satisfaction as an intervening. This research was conducted at a private bank in Indonesia with 95 respondents located in Tangerang, an industrial area located near the Indonesian capital city. Sampling using purposive sampling technique and the type of research is quantitative. Collecting data using a survey method through distributing questionnaires using a likert scale, the analysis method using SEM-PLS. The results of data analysis show that transformational leadership has a positive and significant effect on employee performance through job satisfaction. Direct work motivation has no significant effect, but through job satisfaction it has a positive and significant effect on employee performance.

Abstract:This paper aims to develop a model of sustainable business for Islamic rural banks in Indonesia through the transformation of digital, corporate governance, and financial performance. To achieve this objective, the quantitative research method was used, and the population in this research is 165 Islamic rural banks in Indonesia, while the sample used in this research is 30 Islamic rural banks in the West Java region from 2016 to 2021. The data used in this study is secondary data derived from financial statements and annual reports and analyzed using Partial Least Square (PLS). The research findings highlighted first that digital transformation significantly influences sustainable business. Second, digital transformation significantly influences corporate governance, and third, digital transformation significantly influences financial performance. Fourth, corporate governance has an insignificant influence on sustainable business for Islamic rural banks in Indonesia. Fifth, financial performance significantly influences sustainable business for Islamic rural banks in Indonesia. Sixth, corporate governance does not mediate the effect of digital transformation on sustainable business for Islamic rural banks in Indonesia. Seventh, financial performance is able to mediate the effect of digital transformation on sustainable business for Islamic rural banks in Indonesia. The practical contribution of this study offers empirical evidence for Islamic rural institutions regarding the impact of digital transformation on the sustainability of Islamic rural banks in the context of the dynamic digital economy and technological industry. While the topic of banks' digital transformation has garnered significant attention, the focus has primarily been on a macro level. The findings of this study show top management that digital transformation can potentially serve as a form of market value management. Additionally, this research might serve as a valuable resource for digital transformation organizations seeking to enhance their sustainability initiatives and expedite their progress in the realm of sustainable business practices, particularly for Islamic rural banks in Indonesia. Furthermore, the present study has demonstrated the importance and potential for digital transformation within the Islamic banking sector, hence offering a promising avenue for Islamic rural banks to enhance their operational efficiency and client satisfaction. Considering that limited attention has been given to studies of the relationship between digital transformation and sustainable business in Indonesian Islamic rural banks, this study contributes to the existing literature by examining digital transformation as a new view in explaining and understanding Indonesian Islamic rural banks, which fills the gap because prior research on the topic of digital transformation in Indonesia's Islamic banking sector has mostly ignored management viewpoints on internal corporate governance processes. Abstract:The advent of digital transformation has necessitated significant changes in organizational culture and adaptation strategies, especially within the banking sector. This study aims to examine the impact of digital transformation on organizational culture change and adaptation within the banking sector in Jambi, Indonesia. A mixed-methods approach was employed, incorporating both qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis techniques. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with key stakeholders within the banking sector in Jambi, including bank managers, employees, and customers. Additionally, a survey was administered to a larger sample of bank employees to gather quantitative data on their perceptions of organizational culture change and adaptation in the face of digital transformation. The findings of this study indicate that digital transformation has had a profound impact on organizational culture change and adaptation within the banking sector in Jambi. The study revealed that banks that were successful in adapting to digital transformation were those that had a strong culture of innovation, collaboration, and customer-centricity. These banks were also more likely to have invested in employee training and development programs to equip their workforce with the necessary skills to navigate the digital landscape. In conclusion, this study provides valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities associated with organizational culture change and adaptation in the face of digital transformation within the banking sector. Additionally, investing in employee training and development is crucial for ensuring that the workforce is equipped with the necessary skills to thrive in the digital era.

Abstract:Abstract The digital talent gap has expanded globally, and the industry sector most pronounced is the banking industry, the most critical sector in the Indonesian economic system. Previous studies have shown that institutions must understand and own digital capabilities to achieve better performance. The aim of this research is to examine the effect of digital talent and digital capability through the lens of dynamic capability on bank performance. This research uses a quantitative method, with 344 North Sulawesi & Gorontalo Regional Development Bank employees as respondents spread across various jobs and locations. The data is processed with SmartPLS 4.0.8.4 software. The results show a positive and significant influence of digital talent and digital capability on bank performance. Meanwhile, digital capability has a more substantial role than digital talent in improving bank performance. This research provides new theoretical contributions to studying digital talent and digital capability. This research can also contribute to Indonesia Regional Development Bank's efforts in accelerating its digital transformation and increasing digital talent and digital capability’s competitiveness in improving bank performance. This study introduces the research of digital talent and digital capability in banking to improve regional development banks' competitiveness in facing the competition of the Indonesian banking industry.

Abstract:Purpose: This thesis aims to provide a comprehensive framework for digital banking in Indonesia, highlighting the strategic importance of integrating business strategy and marketing to achieve competitive advantage in the digital era. Digital banking has become essential to Indonesia's financial industry, as it offers convenient and efficient solutions to customers. Banking institutions in Indonesia must understand the strategic framework required to gain a competitive advantage in the digital banking landscape. Method: This thesis explores the Elevating Service Design and Customer Experience: Customer Value Proposition validation and Design for New Digital Bank “Bank S” in Indonesia’s digital banking context. Result: This study examines the impact of digital transformation on banks’ competitive advantage by examining how emerging technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence, blockchain, cloud computing, and data science, drive innovation in the sector. Additionally, this study investigates how banks leverage multi-channel delivery, particularly mobile banking, to offer cost-effective services and enhance customer experience. Finally, it analyzes the role of trust and security in promoting the customer adoption of digital banking services. Conclusion: The findings from this study contribute to understanding the strategic approaches that banks in Indonesia can adopt to gain a competitive edge in the digital banking landscape.

Abstract:In today's rapidly evolving business landscape, the significance of digital transformation for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) cannot be overstated. CV Karya Makmur, an Indonesian automotive repair shop, stands at the forefront of this change, recognizing the urgent need to incorporate advanced Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) into its operations. This transformation is not just about adopting new technologies; it is a comprehensive shift that redefines how the business interacts with customers, optimizes operational processes and improves its overall financial health. The journey of CV Karya Makmur highlights the broader implications of digital transformation in this sector. This case study delves into the multifaceted process of integrating technologies such as augmented reality (AR) and artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance service efficiency, tackle logistical hurdles, and improve access to vital information. Yet, the transition from conventional practices to a digital framework is fraught with obstacles, primarily due to resistance to change. Effective change management, focusing on the human elements of organizational transformation and employee engagement, is pivotal. CV Karya Makmur's experience underscores the critical need for digital systems that promote data-driven decisions, standardize operations, and facilitate better communication. Despite the initial challenges, the potential benefits—increased productivity, reduced operational costs, and a competitive edge in the market—are compelling. This study suggests that considering an organization's unique context and objectives, a tailored digital transformation strategy is essential for leveraging technology to enhance business outcomes in developing countries like Indonesia.
