Abstract:In this paper, Lu et al. characterize a population of neurons in the bed nucleus of the stria terminalis that is activated by general anesthetics and diazepam. These neurons suppress behavioral and autonomic characteristics of anxiety and could be a key mediator of the anxiolytic properties of anesthetics.
