Abstract:Objective To study the teaching effect of practical teaching model of HALC-type(hierarchical progression,alternately and integration,longitudinal teaching,cyclic improvement) standardized training of general resident doctors.Methods From 2012 to 2016,67 general resident doctors participating in the standardized training of general resident doctors in Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital,School of Medicine,Zhejiang University were selected.By random number table method,32 trainees received routine practice teaching(conventional model group),35 received HALC-type practical teaching(new model group).The training time for both groups was 3 years.The scores of satisfaction of practical teaching and the practical ability between employers/organizations of two groups were compared.Results The satisfaction scores of organization and management,teaching mode,general skills,comprehensive ability,training results of employers/organizations in new model group were significantly higher than those in conventional model group(P<0.001).The evaluated scores of basic skills,adaptive skills,general thinking ability,consultation ability,community practical skills,comprehensive ability in general practice field of trainees in new model group were significantly higher than those in conventional model group(P<0.001).Conclusion The practical teaching model of HALC-type standardized training of general resident doctors can effectively improve their standardized training quality.

Abstract:BACKGROUND:The Acute Care of at-Risk Newborns (ACoRN) program was developed in Canada for trained health care providers for the identification and management of newborns who are at-risk and/or become unwell in the first few hours or days after birth. The ACoRN process follows an 8-step framework that enables the evaluation and management of babies irrespective of the experience or expertise of the caregiving individual or team. This study assesses the applicability of the program to Chinese pediatric practitioners.METHODS:Course content and educational materials were translated from English into Chinese by bilingual neonatal practitioners. Confidence and knowledge questionnaires were developed and reviewed for face and content validity by a team of ACoRN instructors. Bilingual Chinese instructors were trained at the tertiary perinatal centre in Hangzhou Zhejiang to deliver the course at 15 level II county hospitals. Participants completed pre- and post-course confidence and knowledge questionnaires and provided feedback through post-course focus groups.RESULTS:216 physicians and nurses were trained. Confidence and knowledge relating to neonatal stabilization improved significantly following the courses. Participants rated course utility and function between 4.2 and 4.6/5 on all items. Pre/post measures of confidence were significantly correlated with post course knowledge. Focus group data supported the perceived value of the program and recommended course adjustments to include pre-course reading, and increased content related to simulation, communication skills, and management of respiratory illness and jaundice.CONCLUSIONS:ACoRN, a Canadian educational program, appears to be well received by Chinese health care providers and results in improved knowledge and confidence. International program adaptation for use by health care professionals requires structured and systematic evaluation to ensure that the program meets the needs of learners, reflects their learning styles, and can be applied in their setting.

Abstract:Objective To study the effect of different training method on basic life support training for medical staff.Method 389 medical staff receive priliminary training and 148 receive re-training by theoretic teaching combined with demonstration and practice.491 receive priliminary training and 145 receive re-training by concentration teaching combined with practice while watching.154 receive re-training by practice while watching.Compare the effectiveness of all methods and effect on training objective.Result All three methods can achieve the training objective,in which practice while watching is a better way.Conclusion practice while watching applied in basic life support primary training and re-training can improve the training effect.

Abstract:Objective To investigate the application of "medical Salon" teaching in standardized training of residents in gynecology and obstetrics department. Methods A total of 30 residents of obstetrics and gynaecology receiving standardized training in the People's Hospital of Wuhan University from August 2015 to March 2018 were enrolled. They were randomly divided into experimental group and control group, with 15 persons in each group. In addition to daily training, the experimental group held a "theoretical salon" once a week and a "surgical salon" every quarter. Both groups of physicians took examinations of basic theories and clinical practice level and received evaluation of training satisfaction; SPSS 17.0 was used to perform t-test or paired t-test on intra-and inter-group data. Results Before the standardization training began, there was no significant difference in the scores of the basic theory and clinical practice between the two groups (P>0.05). After the training, the basic theory and clinical practice scores of the two groups were improved compared with those before training, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). After the training, the scores of the basic theoretical examination of the experimental group were higher than those of the control group [(95.20±3.67) vs. (82.10±5.62)], and the scores of clinical practice of the experimental group was higher than the control group [(96.80±3.26) vs. (79.50±5.28)]; the teaching satisfaction scores of the experimental group were higher as well [(95.50±3.54) vs. (86.70±4.95)]. The differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusion The "Medical Salon" teaching helps to improve the quality of standardized training for obstetrics and gynecology residents and is worth promoting. Application and construction of virtual simulation teaching platforms in the training for anesthesiology residents

Abstract:Objective:This study aims to investigate the application of a virtual simulation teaching platform for the training anesthesiology residents in universities in China and to explore the factors that influence the quality of the virtual simulation teaching.Methods:Fifty-five anesthesiology teachers who participated in "the 16th Training Session of the Training Center for Medical (Anesthesiology) Teachers Teaching International Students in English Ministry of Education" from 39 universities in China were enrolled. A survey was administered as part of the virtual simulation curriculum. Due to the absence of individual teachers, 52 (94.5%) and 50 (90.9%) questionnaires were received before and after the courses, respectively. The content of the questionnaires included the general information of the teachers, the application of virtual simulation teaching method in anesthesiology teaching, the teachers' awareness of virtual simulation teaching, the willingness to teach virtual simulation courses before and after the virtual simulation training, and the ability of teachers to carry out virtual simulation teaching after the training.Results:Overall, 27 (51.9%) teachers reported that their universities applied a virtual simulation teaching method in anesthesiology teaching. Among the universities that used virtual simulation teaching, 20 (74.1%) teachers reported that their universities' training objects were residents. Thirty-five (67.3%) teachers knew about virtual simulation teaching. Forty (76.9%) teachers stated that they had not used the virtual simulation teaching in actual teaching. The present study also found that, after the training involving virtual simulation courses, the teachers' awareness of the importance of virtual simulation teaching was improved and their willingness to teach virtual simulation courses were increased. They had a more positive attitude toward the advantages of virtual simulation teaching while their ability to carry out virtual simulation teaching was promoted.Conclusions:Virtual simulation teaching platforms have not been widely applied in anesthesiology residents training. Moreover, the experience of anesthesiology faculties in using virtual simulation teaching methods needs to be further improved. Furthermore, virtual simulation training plays a key role in improving the competency of anesthesiology faculty. Thus, strengthening the training of virtual simulation among anesthesiology faculties, and adding virtual simulation courses and technical support may promote the popularization and homogenization of virtual simulation teaching platforms in the training of anesthesiology residents.
Analysis of the Effect on Grouping Teaching at Different Levels in the Standardized Training of Residents

Abstract:Purpose: Understand what kind of effect can be achieved by grouping teaching at different levels in the standardized training of residents. Method: A total of 96 residents who received standardized training at the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University from September 2016 to July 2022 were selected. They were divided into two groups. The test group (i.e. Group A) including 50 candidates who received teaching at different levels; and the control group (i.e., group B) had a total of 46 candidates who received traditional task-driven teaching. Three methods (questionnaires, theoretical tests and practical skills assessments) are used to assess the effectiveness of the two teaching methods described above. Results: (1) The questionnaire results showed that the performance of residents in Group A was significantly better than that of Group B in many aspects (Satisfaction with the profession(p<0.001), Interest in the course(p=0.001), Mastery of professional knowledge and skills(p<0.001), Heuristic thinking ability (p <0.001), The ability to conduct rigorous and thorough comprehensive analysis(p<0.001)). (2) The theoretical test results showed that Group A's performance was significantly better than that of Group B (p<0.001). (3) The results of the practical skills assessment showed that Group A's performance was significantly better than that of Group B (p<0.001). Conclusion: Positive effects (such as a significant increase in learning interest and learning ability) can be achieved by grouping teaching at different levels in the standardized training of resident physicians.
Simulation-based training in neonatal resuscitation program for residents

Abstract:Objective To examine the effectiveness of simulation newborn simulator in neona-tal resuscitation training for pediatric residents. Methods From June 2011 to June 2012, 11 residents working in neonatal ward of the Third Hospital of Peking University were enrolled into the study. Eval-uation on the residents was made before the training. Training of simulated teaching using simulation newborn simulator was conducted and evaluation was made after the training. SPSS 18.0 was used for statistical analysis. Comparison was made between pre- and post-training test by paired t test. P<0.05 was considered statistical significant. Questionnaire survey was conduct to acquire residents' feedback. Results A total of 11 participants completed the training and finished the questionnaire. The score of pre-training was 37.82±1.17 versus that of post-training 39.18±0.87(t=4.89, P<0.01). All residents were satisfied with the simulation-based training. Conclusion Simulation training can improve pedi-atric residents' knowledge and skills in neonatal resuscitation.
Application Effect of SPOC Combined Seminar Teaching in Advanced Nursing Practice Course for Postgraduates of Master of Nursing Specialist

Abstract:Objective To explore the application effect of SPOC combined seminar teaching in the Advanced Nursing Practice course for postgraduates of master of nursing specialist（MNS）. Methods The MNS students were divided into the control group（n=33） and the experimental group（n=29） according to their class. The experimental group employed SPOC combined seminar teaching,while the control group used traditional teaching. The critical thinking ability of the two groups was evaluated by the Critical Thinking Disposition Inventory before and after the teaching respectively. Besides,the theoretical test and comprehensive report scores,teaching quality evaluation and teaching satisfaction were compared between the two groups. Results After teaching,the critical thinking ability score of the experimental group（300.97±26.45） was higher than that of the control group（283.67±17.39）,and the difference was statistically significant（P＜0.05）. Similarly,the score on the comprehensive report and the evaluation of teaching quality of the experimental group was higher than that of the control group（P＜0.05）. In addition,the satisfaction of the experimental group in the two aspects of “helping to improve clinical problem analysis ability”and “helping to improve clinical nursing ability” was significantly higher than that of the control group（P＜0.05）.Conclusion The application of SPOC combined seminar teaching method in Advanced Nursing Practice courses can effectively improve the critical thinking ability among postgraduates of MNS,and enhance the learning effect,teaching quality as well as students’ satisfaction toward teaching.

Abstract:Objective:To explore the application effect of BOPPPS combined with virtual simulation technology for the training of asphyxia neonatorum resuscitation.Methods:Two groups of undergraduates enrolled in August 2020 were randomly divided into experimental group and control group by random number table method with 28 students in each. The experimental group used the teaching method of BOPPPS combined with virtual simulation and the control group adopted traditional skill training. After the course, the students were evaluated for theory and skills, and the students' evaluation was collected in the form of questionnaire survey. The test scores and questionnaire results of the two groups were compared by independent sample t-test and Wilcoxon rank sum test.Results:The score of theoretical test of students in the experimental group was higher than that of control group[(79.32±6.20) vs.(66.18±10.43)]; the scores of individual operation skill and package skill of endotracheal intubation in the experimental group were higher than those in the control group [(4.93±0.26) vs. (4.39±0.74), (14.68±0.55) vs. (14.11±0.96)]; the scores of skill improvement and teaching content from the experimental group were higher than those from the control group [(8.64±1.25) vs. (7.75±1.00), (97.79±4.36) vs. (89.46±9.75) ], all P<0.05. Conclusions:The teaching method of BOPPPS combined with virtual simulation technology has a good teaching results, which improving students' learning interest and confidence, developing their learning of theoretical knowledge and operation skills related to asphyxia neonatorum and resuscitation.
Optimizing resident training in obstetrics and gynecology: a new perspective on the refined Peyton four-step teaching method

Abstract:Objective: In the surgery-focused field of obstetrics and gynecology (OB-GYN), the development of residents' skills is paramount. This study aims to evaluate the impact of an enhanced Peyton Four-Step Teaching Model on the foundational skill training of first-year OB-GYN residents. Methods: Utilizing a cohort study design, we assessed 116 first-year residents from the OB-GYN residency program at Shengjing Hospital of China Medical University from June 2021 to June 2023. The 57 residents beginning their training in 2022 were part of the Refined Peyton (RP) group, introduced to the RP method; the 59 residents from 2021 served as the Traditional Teaching-mode (TTM) group, receiving conventional simulation-based instruction. Teaching effectiveness was assessed by comparing theoretical knowledge and skill performance assessments, National Medical Licensing Examination (NMLE) pass rates, direct observation of procedural skills (DOPS) one year post-training, and survey feedback. Results: The theoretical knowledge scores for both groups were comparable at 78.78 ± 4.08 and 78.70 ± 3.83, with no significant difference (P = 0.76). However, the experimental group demonstrated superior performance in skill operation assessments, first-time NMLE pass rates, and DOPS evaluations one year after training [(77.05 ± 5.39) vs. (84.60 ± 5.65), 100.0% (57/57) vs. 86.4% (51/59), and (75.22 ± 3.56) vs. (82.54 ± 3.43)], as well as higher teaching satisfaction scores [(4.63 ± 0.46) vs. (3.92 ± 0.62)], with all differences being statistically significant (P < 0.05). Conclusion: The refined Peyton Four-Step Teaching Model significantly improves the immediate acquisition and long-term retention of clinical basic skills among OB-GYN residents, enhancing both teaching efficacy and resident satisfaction.
Application of PBL Combined with Laparoscopy in Teaching of Gynecology

Abstract:Objective To explore the value of problem-based learning (PBL) model combined with laparoscopy in the standardized training for gynecological residents. Methods A total of 46 standardized surgical trainees students in obstetrics and gynecology in Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital of Zhejiang University from September 2015 to September 2016 were enrolled and randomly divided into the observation group and the control group. The observation group was taught with PBL combined with laparoscopic teaching, while the control group was taught with the traditional teaching mode. Examinations and questionnaires were conducted to evaluate the teaching effect of the two groups. Statistical analyses were performed with Chi-square test or t-test using SPSS software (version 20.0). Results The scores of theoretical and practical skill examination were significantly higher in the observation group than in the control group [(90.78±2.73) vs. (85.09±3.78);(89.13±2.90) vs. (80.87±4.19)],and the difference was significant. The pass rate of laparo-scopic operation examination in the observation group was higher than that in the control group(91.30% vs. 65.21%, P=0.035). Moreover, the operating time was significantly less in the observation group than in the control group [(16.74±3.08) vs. (20.43±3.94), P=0.001]. The clinical adaptability, clinical operation skills, learning enthusiasm and satisfaction with teaching(P<0.05)were better in the observation group than in the control group. Conclusion During the same class hours, PBL combined with laparoscopic surgery can effectively improve the basic theoretical knowledge and clinical practice ability of residents.
An Observation of a Resident-as-Teacher Combined with Tutor Guided Hysteroscopy Teaching Program for Standardized Residency Training (SRT) in Obstetrics and Gynecology

Abstract:Objectives: The standardized residency training (SRT) program in China is an important link for continuing education and clinical work training for graduate students. The purpose of our study was to enable educators to maintain the effectiveness of hysteroscopy teaching techniques and make the standardized residency training students well experienced in surgery, thus demonstrating that higher efficiency of teaching can lead to better proficiency for surgery. Methods: We generated resident-as-teacher teaching round and tutor guided hysteroscopic surgery as well as a questionnaire based on the mastery degree of the basic theoretical knowledge and operational skills of hysteroscopy among seven junior residents and five senior residents of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department, including four attending gynecologic surgeons of a hysteroscopy teaching program. Results: Senior residents felt confident to teach, while junior residents learned effectively through the teaching round. There were statistically significant differences in the whole operation time and the volume of distension fluid used between junior and senior residents (p < 0.05). Conclusions: This study acknowledges the need for new approaches to medical education for better characterization of the link between the use of teaching rounds through problem-based learning (PBL) discussion dominated by the residents themselves and overall surgical skills of teaching and learning.

Abstract:Standardized training program for residents in Shanghai is one of the important measures in the health care reform.In accordance with Implementary methods of standardized training for residents in shanghai (for trial implementation),the department of stomatology in the affiliated Changzheng Hospital quickly initialized the standardized training program by defining the training objectives,establishing the training mechanisms,formulating the training contents and building the system of the assessment.Special attention was paid to improve the professional skill of the residents including ① clinical diagnostic ability; ② medical theoretical level and the medical thinking ability; ③ interpersonal communicational skill; ④ professionalism; ⑤ scientific research ability.Useful exploration was made to test the feasibility of the training program based on the practices and the effect was encouraging.

Abstract:Objective:To explore the application effect of the whole-range tutorial system in the standardized training of obstetrics and gynecology residents.Methods:Experimental control analysis method was used in this study. Totally 94 residents who received standardized training in obstetrics and gynecology department of Peking University Third Hospital from January 2010 to December 2019 were included, we compared the theoretical, clinical ability assessment and English test results of the residents with and without tutors.Results:The scores of tutor group were significantly higher than that of non-tutor group [(92.4±4.2) vs (91.1±4.9), t=-2.300, P=0.022], the scores of theoretical test of obstetrics and gynecology were also improved significantly [(77.6±7.3) vs (71.5±9.3), t=-4.648, P<0.01], and the scores of annual English test were also enhanced significantly [(82.3±12.5) vs (70.0±15.9), t=-5.326, P<0.01]. Conclusions:The implementation of the tutorial system has significantly improved the essential theoretical knowledge, clinical reasoning and operation skill, as well as English level for academic communication of the trainees of obstetrics and gynecology residents.
Application of SOAP Teaching with Scenario Simulation in the General Resident Standardized Training

Abstract:Objective: To explore the effects of SOAP with scenario simulation on the clinical performance and professional identity of general residents after the standardized training. Methods: Eighty-six trainees were selected as study objects who received the general resident standardized training in Chongqing from November 2018 to October 2019, and they were divided into control group and study group using the random number table. The conventional general resident standardized training was performed in the control group, and it was conducted by combining SOAP teaching with scenario simulation in the study group. After training, the training environment acceptance and training satisfaction of trainees were evaluated using a self-designed questionnaire. And the changes in the clinical performance and professional identity of trainees were assessed by objective structured clinical examination (OSCE) and using a self-designed “general resident professional identity” questionnaire. Results: The training environment acceptance of trainees in the study group was significantly higher than that in the control group ( P < 0.05). After training, various item scores of OSCE in both groups were evidently increased ( P < 0.05), and they were markedly greater in the study group than in the control group ( P < 0.05); the improvement of professional identity and the training satisfaction in the study group were superior to those in the control group ( P < 0.05). Conclusion: In the general resident standardized training, SOAP teaching with scenario simulation can effectively improve the clinical performance, training satisfaction and professional identity of general residents, thus it has good feasibility.

Abstract:Objective:To investigate the application value of WeChat-based problem-based learning teaching method combined with micro-classroom in the teaching of contrast-enhanced gastrointestinal ultrasound imaging for residents in standardized residency training.Methods:A total of 40 trainees who underwent the standardized residency training in the Department of Ultrasound, The First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University from January 2019 to June 2021 were selected as the research objects. They were randomly divided into the experimental group (WeChat-based PBL teaching method combined with micro-classroom) and the control group (traditional teaching method). The teaching content was the diagnosis of gastrointestinal ultrasound imaging. After the theoretical learning and practice, assessments of contrast-enhanced gastrointestinal ultrasound imaging including theory and operating practice were performed to all students. SPSS 22.0 was used for t test and rank sum test.Results:After training, the theoretical test scores of the experimental group were higher than those of the control group [(93.09±2.31) vs. (90.63±2.26)], and the difference was statistically significant ( P<0.05). However, there was no significant difference between the two groups in the number distribution of students at all levels of operational practice ( P>0.05). Conclusion:The WeChat-based PBL teaching method combined with micro-classroom is beneficial to improve students' knowledge of contrast-enhanced gastrointestinal ultrasound imaging, and is worth being popularized and applied in clinical teaching.

Abstract:Cultivation of research and research capability is becoming more and more important in resident training,although contemporary standardized training still focuses on clinical capability.This paper introduces SUPER teaching,including training of slide making,updating practice,academic presentation,oral English and literature reading,and summarize its approach and essence based on our experience.It has been showed that SUPER teaching can improve research and research capability and benefit residents' career development in future.SUPER teaching completes and enriches contemporary standardized training of residents in China.
Application of online to offline teaching mode in the training of non-anesthesiology residents in the department of anesthesiology: a randomized, controlled trial

Abstract:Objective To explore the effect of applying the online to offline teaching mode in the training of non-anesthesiology residents in department of anesthesiology. Trial design The randomized controlled trial was performed on non-anesthesiology residents from Affiliated Jiangning Hospital of Nanjing Medical University. Methods All selected residents were randomly divided into the traditional teaching group (Group T) and the online to offline teaching group (Group O) by the random number table method. Traditional teaching mode was used in Group T, while the online to offline teaching mode was used in Group O. The training period lasted for two months. At the end of the training, theoretical and clinical skills were assessed for all residents, and students’ satisfaction scores on teaching were investigated from the aspects of teaching mode, stimulating learning interest, improving learning process and teaching satisfaction. The teaching efficiency was compared and analyzed in the two groups. Results In total, 39 cases in Group O and 38 cases in Group T were included in the statistical analysis. Compared with Group T, theory test scores, clinical skills test scores, and overall scores improved significantly in Group O (82.2 ± 8.1 vs. 91.3 ± 7.6; 85.1 ± 4.7 vs. 93.3 ± 5.4 and 83.4 ± 6.4 vs. 92.1 ± 6.7, respectively, p < 0.01). Compared with Group T, scores on teaching mode, stimulating learning interest, improving learning process and teaching satisfaction were higher in Group O (81.1 ± 6.9 vs. 93.7 ± 5.2; 83.6 ± 5.8 vs. 91.6 ± 6.4; 82.4 ± 5.3 vs. 90.9 ± 4.8 and 82.1 ± 5.9 vs. 92.1 ± 5.5, respectively, p < 0.01). Conclusion The online to offline teaching mode can improve the level of professional theory and clinical skill operation, and teaching satisfaction of the non-anesthesiology residents in department of anesthesiology, thus improving the teaching effectiveness.
