Abstract:We investigate the boundedness of unimodular Fourier multipliers on modulation spaces. Surprisingly, the multipliers with general symbol ei|ξ|α, where α∈[0,2], are bounded on all modulation spaces, but, in general, fail to be bounded on the usual Lp-spaces. As a consequence, the phase-space concentration of the solutions to the free Schrödinger and wave equations are preserved. As a byproduct, we also obtain boundedness results on modulation spaces for singular multipliers |ξ|−δsin(|ξ|α) for 0⩽δ⩽α.

Abstract:We study the equation $m(D)f = 0$ in a large class of sub-exponentially growing functions. Under appropriate restrictions on $m \in C(\mathbb{R}^n)$, we show that every such solution can be analytically continued to a sub-exponentially growing entire function on $\mathbb{C}^n$ if and only if $m(\xi) \not= 0$ for $\xi \not= 0$.

Abstract:In this paper, we study Fourier multipliers on quantum Euclidean spaces and obtain results on their $L^p -L^q$ boundedness. On the way to get these results, we prove Paley, Hausdorff-Young, Hausdorff-Young-Paley, and Hardy-Littlewood inequalities on the quantum Euclidean space. As applications, we establish the $L^p -L^q$ estimate for the heat semigroup and Sobolev embedding theorem on quantum Euclidean spaces. We also obtain quantum analogues of logarithmic Sobolev and Nash type inequalities.

Abstract:Let p > 2 be a given exponent. In this paper, we prove, with the best constant, the weak-type ( p,p ) inequality for a large class of non-symmetric Fourier multipliers T m obtained via modulation of jumps of certain Lévy processes. In particular, the estimate holds for appropriate linear combinations of second-order Riesz transforms and skew versions of the Beurling-Ahlfors operator on the complex plane. The proof rests on a novel probabilistic bound for Hilbert-space-valued martingales satisfying a certain non-symmetric subordination principle. Further applications to harmonic functions and Riesz systems on Euclidean domains are indicated.

Abstract:The classical Liouville property says that all bounded harmonic functions in Rn , that is, all bounded functions satisfying Δf=0 , are constant. In this paper, we obtain necessary and sufficient conditions on the symbol of a Fourier multiplier operator m(D) , such that the solutions f to m(D)f=0 are Lebesgue a.e. constant (if f is bounded) or coincide Lebesgue a.e. with a polynomial (if f is polynomially bounded). The class of Fourier multipliers includes the (in general non‐local) generators of Lévy processes. For generators of Lévy processes, we obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for a strong Liouville theorem where f is positive and grows at most exponentially fast. As an application of our results above, we prove a coupling result for space‐time Lévy processes.

Abstract:In this paper we study the $L^{p}$-$L^{q}$ boundedness of Fourier multipliers on the fundamental domain of a lattice in $\mathbb{R}^{d}$ for $1 < p,q < \infty$ under the classical Hörmander condition. First, we introduce Fourier analysis on lattices and have a look at possible generalisations. We then prove the Hausdorff-Young inequality, Paley's inequality and the Hausdorff-Young-Paley inequality in the context of lattices. This amounts to a quantitative version of the $L^{p}$-$L^{q}$ boundedness of Fourier multipliers. Moreover, the Paley inequality allows us to prove the Hardy-Littlewood inequality.

Abstract:We prove a sharp criterion for the boundedness of bilinear Fourier multiplier operators associated with symbols obtained by summing all dyadic dilations of a given bounded function $m_0$ compactly supported away from the origin. Our result admits the best possible behavior with respect to a modulation of the function $m_0$ and is intimately connected with optimal bounds for the family of shifted square functions. As an application, we obtain estimates for bilinear singular integral operators with rough homogeneous kernels whose restriction to the unit sphere belongs to the Orlicz space $L(\log L)^\alpha$. This improves an earlier result of the first and third authors, where such estimates were established for rough kernels belonging to the space $L^q$, $q>1$, on the unit sphere.

Abstract:Our primary objective in this article is to establish Hörmander type $L^p \rightarrow L^q$ Fourier multiplier theorems in the context of noncompact type Riemannian symmetric spaces $\mathbb{X}$ of arbitrary rank for the range $1 < p \leq 2 \leq q < \infty$. As a consequence of the Fourier multiplier theorem, we also derive a spectral multiplier theorem on $\mathbb{X}$. We then apply this theorem to prove $L^p \rightarrow L^q$ boundedness for functions of the Laplace-Beltrami operator and to obtain embedding theorems and operator estimates for the potentials and heat semigroups. Additionally, we provide mixed-norm versions of the Hausdorff-Young and Paley inequalities. In this context, where the Fourier transform is holomorphic, and its domain consists of various strips, we present two versions of these inequalities and explore their interrelation. Furthermore, our findings and methods are also applicable to harmonic $NA$ groups, also known as Damek-Ricci spaces.

In particluar, we show a simple proof of $L^p$-$L^q$ estimate of Fourier multipliers on general noncommutative spaces associated with semi-finite von Neumann algebras. This includes the case of Fourier multipliers on general locally compact unimodular groups.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate $L^p$ bounds of maximal Fourier multiplier operators with dilation of fractional dimensions. For the Fourier multipliers, we suggest a criterion related to dimensions of dilation sets which guarantees $L^p$ bounds of the maximal operators for each $p$. Our criterion covers Mikhlin-type multipliers, multipliers with limited decay, and multipliers with slow decay.

Abstract:Let $\Phi$ be a $C^*$-subalgebra of $L^\infty(\mathbb{R})$ and $SO_{X(\mathbb{R})}^\diamond$ be the Banach algebra of slowly oscillating Fourier multipliers on a Banach function space $X(\mathbb{R})$. We show that the intersection of the Calkin image of the algebra generated by the operators of multiplication $aI$ by functions $a\in\Phi$ and the Calkin image of the algebra generated by the Fourier convolution operators $W^0(b)$ with symbols in $SO_{X(\mathbb{R})}^\diamond$ coincides with the Calkin image of the algebra generated by the operators of multiplication by constants.

Abstract:Recently, it has been shown that the unimodular Fourier multipliers e(it vertical bar Delta vertical bar alpha/2) are bounded on all modulation spaces. In this paper, using the almost orthogonality of projections and some techniques on oscillating integrals, we obtain asymptotic estimates for the unimodular Fourier multipliers e(it vertical bar Delta vertical bar alpha/2) on the modulation spaces. As applications, we give the grow-up rates of the solutions for the Cauchy problems for the free Schrodinger equation, the wave equation and the Airy equation with the initial data in a modulation space. We also obtain a quantitative form about the solution to the Cauchy problem of the nonlinear dispersive equations.

Abstract:We deduce continuity and (global) wave-front properties of classes of Fourier multipliers, pseudo-differential, and Fourier integral operators when acting on Orlicz spaces, or more generally, on Orlicz-Sobolev type spaces. In particular, we extend H{ö}rmander's improvement of Mihlin's Fourier multiplier theorem to the framework of Orlicz spaces. We also show how Young functions $\Phi$ of the Orlicz spaces are linked to properties of certain Lebesgue exponents $p_\Phi$ and $q_\Phi$ emerged from $\Phi$.

Abstract:This paper studies the $L^{p}$ boundedness of bilinear Fourier multipliers in the local $L^{2}$ range. We assume a Hörmander condition relative to a singular set that is a finite union of Lipschitz curves. The Hörmander condition is sharp with respect to the Sobolev exponent. Our setup generalizes the non-degenerate bilinear Hilbert transform but avoids issues of uniform bounds near degeneracy.

Abstract:We study the boundedness on the Wiener amalgam spaces $W^{p,q}_s$ of Fourier multipliers with symbols of the type $e^{i\mu(\xi)}$, for some real-valued functions $\mu(\xi)$ whose prototype is $|\xi|^{\beta}$ with $\beta\in (0,2]$. Under some suitable assumptions on $\mu$, we give the characterization of $W^{p,q}_s\rightarrow W^{p,q}$ boundedness of $e^{i\mu(D)}$, for arbitrary pairs of $0< p,q\leq \infty$. Our results are an essential improvement of the previous known results, for both sides of sufficiency and necessity, even for the special case $\mu(\xi)=|\xi|^{\beta}$ with $1<\beta<2$.

Abstract:The Ionescu--Wainger multiplier theorem establishes good $L^p$ bounds for Fourier multiplier operators localized to major arcs; it has become an indispensible tool in discrete harmonic analysis. We give a simplified proof of this theorem with more explicit constants (removing logarithmic losses that were present in previous versions of the theorem), and give a more general variant involving adelic Fourier multipliers. We also establish a closely related adelic sampling theorem that shows that $\ell^p(\Z^d)$ norms of functions with Fourier transform supported on major arcs are comparable to the $L^p(\A_\Z^d)$ norm of their adelic counterparts.

Abstract:We discuss L^p(ℝ^n) boundedness for Fourier multiplier operators that satisfy the hypotheses of the Hörmander multiplier theorem in terms of an optimal condition that relates the distance |1/p-1/2| to the smoothness s of the associated multiplier measured in some Sobolev norm. We provide new counterexamples to justify the optimality of the condition |1/p-1/2|<s/n and we discuss the endpoint case |1/p-1/2|=s/n.
